- The Jolson Story is a 1946 musical biography which purports to tell the life story of singer Al Jolson. It stars Larry Parks as Jolson, Evelyn Keyes as "Julie Benson" (approximating Jolson's wife, Ruby Keeler), William Demarest as his manager, Ludwig Donath and Tamara Shayne as his parents, and Scotty Beckett as the young Jolson.
Thankyou for watching. - Фільми й анімація
Larry Parks was Oscar nominated for this he should have won it that year
Watching Al Jolson, my favourite all time singer, brings tears to my eyes. It's so hard to believe that he's been dead for 60 years. Thank you for these memories.
The real Al Jolson looked a lot different. But what a voice he had. I still enjoy hearing his singing. and watching this movie and the follow up.
Beautiful memories
I’m now 39 years old
But this is the best
My Dad a Welshman called Bill Davies he knew all of Al Jolson songs. And regularly sang his to all his family & friends….
I always find the ending very moving. When she kisses Steve goodbye, then takes that last look and then turns and walks out the door as Al sings on, oblivious. Beautifully done.
Actors, music, direction....there hasn't been anything like it still!
lost count how many times i have seen this movie , my dad sang all the songs in the clubs , many years ago . sadly my dad not here anymore , but i cant still hear him through jolson . carol .
I was 3 years old when the film was made and remember my parents taking me to see it when I was still a wee boy and even now at the age of 67 the voice still brings tears to my eyes. My wife and daughter think I'm daft but the man was a real super star.
I love this movie; can't tell you how many times I watched it as a kid, and how much I love Jolie's voice. He was unique. Larry Parks was brilliant in the role. I watched the movie so many times, I memorized all the songs. An old girl friend was William Demarest's neighbor.
World's Greatest Entertainer !
Watched this with my dad who saw the first talkie in 1928
The ending is sad , sad indeed , the music and Al's girlfriend's departure , they are both heartwrenching.
I listen to this man sing and think of my father who always told me he was a great singer and he was right
Love this film so much iv watched it so many times will never get get tired of it even showed it to my grandchildren
Before Dvds and dvrs we had Million Dollar Movie. it was your only chance to see a movie multiple times.......Thank you for making the Jolson Story available.

Loved Larry Parks. THIS is an Academy Award performance.
He was so charismatic-Larry Parks. So good looking and charming.
Many thanks. Like most people I never tire of this classic movie.
As always, sorry to see this movie end, but nice to know that I can come back anytime to watch, thanks to Warrior. And I mean that sincerely, thank you Warrior for taking the time to upload this movie. Some wonderful family memories attached to it,
La vi en la tv de esa epoca(blanco y negro) y han pasado 50 años. bien hecha con mensaje y un tributo a la posteridad de parte de Al Jolson.
STILL the "World's Greatest Entertainer" !
Man, I'm\jealous too! I wish I could have been there! That night club my grandfather worked at used to bring in all the best acts, benny goodman, frank sinatra, glenn miller, etc and of all the great entertainers that were paid to play there, that "Jolson story" (pun intended!) was his favorite.
Both my grandparents lived near Coney Island and they used to tell stories about Jolson singing at a club called "Feldman's" where Eddie Cantor and Jimmy Durante worked as singing waiters!
Personally, I thought this was the best version of April Showers I've heard Al sing. There's just...something about it.
Yes!! It's amazing, but I've never been able to find just the audio of it. Even The Jolson Story Soundtrack LP only has the slow version!
Jolson was King
how jelous i am that you have a story to tell about the one and only jolson...
Ruby Keeler, the real life wife of Al Jolson and a prominent dancing star in the 1930's, had a turbulent marriage to Jolson and did want a more bucolic life as portrayed in "The Jolson Story". Jolson accompanied Keeler to a farmhouse that they bought and allegedly, Jolson was seen singing for a group of local residents in a hardware store; he was compelled to perform and entertain. His next marriage to a nurse, portrayed in the sequel by Barbara Hale, was successful. The film was an enormous hit.
THIS IS ONE MUSICAL I WATCH EVERYTIME IT IS SHOWN - I WAS DELIGHTED TO FIND JOLSON'S SONGS ON YOU TUBE - THANKS SO MUCH.
VI LA PELICULA EN EL AÑO 1953 Y A PARTIR DE ESE ENTONCES DEBO HABER VISTO LA PELICULA CIENTO DE VECES Y NO ME CANSO DE ESCUCHAR SU VOZ Y LA MAGNIFICA INTERPRETACION DE LARRY PARK ES LAMENTABLE LA PERDIDA DE AMBOS FUERON MAGNIFICOS
thanks for uploading.
the movie does not do justice to the amazing stage presence he had to go along with that one-in-a-million set of pipes.
Sweet.

Although this is as with most film biopics of the time, an idealised version of Jolson's life. One of the truest things was Jolson's love of performing to an audience anywhere anytime. My Grandfather a waiter at the 400 Club in NYC witnessed this in the 40's when Jolson came in for a late dinner and he was asked to sing a number and then sang for hours to a spellbound house of very surprised and appreciate patrons and staff. My Grandma and Mom were there for the late show and saw it too.
Awesome .. thku so much for sharing what a amazing experience they had beautiful
Thank you for posting that.It was great
Great!!¡+!
Maravilloso, esta película es espectacular...y por supuesto la continuación...
side comment, in the film, April Showers was the song that began and ended the relationship with 'Julie Benson'.
This event seems to have been taken from an episode that occurred after Jolson married his fourth wife. Jolson was spotted with his young wife at an appreciation of Sophie Tucker. Despite Jolson's best efforts to turn attention back to Sophie Tucker or to introduce his wife, the crowd would not be satisfied until Jolson sang. It was the first time his new wife heard him sing for an audience.
Thanks for taking the time to post this. An amazing picture, albeit somewhat fictionalized. Regardless, Jolson really was the greatest entertainer ever.
The interesting thing is that people who saw Jolson on stage say that Jolson on film was a shadow of what he was really like in on stage. He himself felt constrained by the method of filming at the time as he was famous for ad-libbing jokes. as well as the tempo of the song, often changing lyrics, stopping the song to tell a story, going into the audience, etc. Also he dearly missed the lack of a real audience on the sound stages, which really fed him and he gave back in large doses to them.
Its sad but Jolson Sings Again makes up for it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
With that song she walks into his life, and with it, she walks out.
Yep, dramatic irony
@teddybo06 Larry Parks plays Al Jolson...he's spectacular!
Al Jolson was the first Superstar.
The Jolson Story : The Biggest Box Office Musical Motion Picture , In All Motion Picture History, Until : The Sound Of Music ! With Julie Andrews ! In 1964 ! with Far Higher Ticket Prices !
Magical film, thanks for sharing it!
Although Al Jolsen's family wanted a quiet night out...people would ask him to sing and he would taken over by it...he only lived when he was on stage.
Yo también Ka ví no recuerdo el año pero me impresionó era dramas era el galán de modo este guapo actor Larry Parks salía
De negrito co. Al j. Gracias
thank you for posting this,i never realize that how many songs he did,
The songs in “The Jolson Story” is the tip of the iceberg. Jolie sang hundreds of songs.
❤
HELP!!!! You said you had a channel in which we could watch the Jolson movies. What or rather where is it?? I don't want to ever lose the ability to watch these movies. I love Al Jolson. Joan Rivers use to work out using Al Jolson music---A little trivia for you.
overdosed on larry parks keep singing april showers whilst making the dinner
His wife was watching him like a hawk.
I like how the papa was looking at the al wife while he was performing and i wondered if that is what he had planned when he asked al to sing for him, and agree to go to the night club.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS MOVIE!!!!! I absolutely love Al Jolson and have for many years. I was born in 1941 so I remember him very well. No one can sing like this today and most likely will never be able to. How do I get on your channel? I'm not too computer savvy. I remember my Dad singing his and Nat King Cole songs when I was little.
@warror135 That would be great if you could do that. I've not had a chance to see that since my final VCR gave out on me. It would be very much appreciated. Also, for those who have yet to see it, of course!
Larry parks was a gifted actor torn apart by the McCarthy crap....that man destroyed a lot of innocent people.
@warror135
did you upload jolsin sings again ,, i was wanting to watch that movie as well. !!
He tries do hard to hold onto Julie by not singing, and she just wants him to be happy. Sometimes, you can love someone with all your heart and not be a suitable match.
The greatest lip syncing in movie musical history
@teddybo06 There is also the sequel to this film "Jolson Sings Again", w/Parks however, the songs are all Al Jolson. It's Larry Parks lip-syncing to them.
Parks might have had quite a career had he not been black-listed as a communist.
can anyone tell me how to log onto the next movie to this , jolson sings again . thanks . carol
@lannybuddy
yes but here we are refering to the movie that is a fictional account of the al jolson life.
so in the movie here it always seemed to me that soonn when he first looked at his daughter in law at the club, it was to say this is what he, al jolson needs to her.
then again you say he would not be in the nightclub so perhaps that emphasies even more that he planned some version of this in hope of cheering up his son.
@bronsondaggers -I think not. In real life, his father was an orthodox Jewish cantor and would not be in a nightclub.
The sound is bad
She makes the guy give up what he was born to do, then when he's forced to go back to it, she leaves him! She must have loved him very much. If he had been a famous brain surgeon, would she have made him give that up, too? I don't think so. You see, singing for crowds wasn't refined up for her narcissistic ego. Good riddance to her.
Yes.... but it's actually not reality at all.
Ruby Keeler never forced Jolson to quit, he just fell out favour so a "retirement" was a spoonful of creative licence for the film. Even during that period however, he was always hosting his shows on the radio.
