  • Posted by the International Al Jolson Society, www.jolson.org, this is an excerpt of the 01 Oct 1946 tribute broadcast to Al Jolson. This star-studded program originated from both New York and California, and included George Jessel, Eddie Cantor, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Perry Como, and others, in an hour long tribute to the World's Greatest Entertainer upon the release of The Jolson Story. This podcast includes songs by Eddie Cantor, Dinah Shore, and Frank Sinatra, along with the ending of the program by Mr. Jolson, illustrated with pictures of the stars. If there is any doubt about how those in the business felt about Al Jolson, this should get rid of them for all time. The complete broadcast, along with other Jolson radio shows, is available at the Official Al Jolson Website at www.jolson.org, from its posting in October through the end of November.

I am the proud owner of quite a few original Jolson 78s , always loved him even as a kid in the 70s , I’m 53 but I love hip hop , grime and electronic music , but the sounds of these amazing artists never get old , I’ll listen to tangerine dreams rubycon and next listen to April showers by al , good music is just good music

Very surprised and happy to hear how wonderful Dinah shore singing that Judy Garland standard "you made me love you" . She is another underrated and sadly forgotten singer.😱🤔🤗

Thanks for the comment, and welcome to the gang. Yes, Dinah did justice to the Jolson classic that Judy later took for her own. Please do subscribe to this UA-cam channel, and visit the IAJS at the website www.jolson.org and the Facebook page bit.ly/IAJSFacebook

I discovered Al Jolson in the 1990s and Frank Sinatra soon thereafter. Jolson taught me so much about singing. And as a classical music lover, I appreciated the New Yorker's assessment of Sinatra as the Fischer-Dieskau of popular music.
