Simple Tip For Better Skate Control | Joey Mantia Coin Trick

  • The main thing is that you feel the coin(s) on the bottom of each foot so you have little pressure points where you can focus your balance and pushes through. It may take a few coins stacked up to get to that point. Of course you can use whatever object you want, Ive always just used one or two coins.
    This skating tip has worked really well for me over the years so I wanted to share it. It shouldn't matter what kind of skating you do, this could help give you more control over your skates, making the experience a lot more fun.
    It might work on quads, hopefully someone can try it and report back.
    Give it a go and let me know what you think.

    Do you have a process where this ties into dialling in your frame position? If your frame is mounted a bit off, I expect this coin trick would exaggerate it, and maybe it can guide you into better frame position.

      I originally had a couple minutes blabbing about how this could help frame setup with your exact thought process, but took it out because I wanted to keep this one short and sweet. This will definitely help you feel if your offset is a little funky and help guide you to a place that you feel more comfortable balancing on your wheels if you spend the time (weeks) to work out the best offset (placement) for your frames.
      I have a frame placement tutorial that's a simple intro to frame setup. Just follow that as a start and do a little guess and check work incorporating the coin trick. The simple answer is if when you stand up on your skate it wants to flop to one side, then bias your frame a little that direction. You'll move either the front or the back based on if that feels like it's happening in front of or behind the coin in your boot. Remember, little movements go a long way with this, especially if you're on bigger wheels, so be patient in the process.

    Lately balance has been my biggest issue. I push hard to make more speed and my form falls apart. I can feel my weight balance is off. What a great tip! Thank you.

    Wow, what a trick... haha. And come to think of it, this could be a great innovation for skating actually, the pressure points could be incorporated into skates, for sure this can help

      @JoeyMantiaOfficial  29 днів тому +3

      Haha coffee makes everything easier. Just put a coin or 2 (stacked) in your boot where the center point of your frame is and go skate. Feeling that spot on the bottoms of your feet will make some lightbulbs go off, whether it be a conscious reaction or subconscious

    This is a bit niche but recently they have been making aftermarket mouse feet for gaming mice that are just small circles. They're called "dot skates" coincidentally enough. They're very small sticky disks of extremely smooth plastic they would probably work brilliantly for this.

      @JoeyMantiaOfficial  29 днів тому

      good looking out - anything big enough to feel consistently throughout all your skating movements, but not so big that it becomes intrusive would work great

    Could you do a video of how a proper speed skate boot should fit? I have a pair of custom boots by Dave Simmons and I’m trying to get them dialed in. Being a non-professional skater who’s just trying to take my skating seriously, I could use some direction.
    Would loved things answered like:
    • how tight should they be?
    • should you feel pressure points at all?
    • should you have room in your feet or not?
    • do you wear socks with them?
    • should you have blisters after skating in a properly set up boot?
    Thanks in advance.

    This is the trip what I am looking for long time! Apart from this, how to improve the left and right balance of the skate? My kid will naturally skate inside. Any other practice is good to make much outside, so as to generate more power when pushing?
