Desolation Row is a Masterpiece! Such a beautiful song! Pure poetry! I love it when the Dead do Dylan covers! They are some of my favorite and never ceases to stir my soul! Forever Grateful!😂
In the late 80's early 90's the Band was Crushing it on stage ! Those spring and summer tours were such a magical time in my life, and when i come across a video like this it brings a tear to my eye and joy to my ears, for i miss those wonderful days oh so much !
The Dead almost always had great shows at AV. I can't say I was a this particular show, but I did see them 3 times there, lawn seats with the masses with a large group of friends. They always had the sound dialed in, and Phil's thunderboomers would make your eardrums flap all the way to the back of the lawn. It's just a sin that Jerry liked the H too much, he would have been with us for a few more years if he hadn't, but at least he shared with us what he could while he was here.
Jerry backing little impromptu backing vocal at 5:20 is just so perfect...how something can be simple and complex...so small and so huge...the paradox was real ...probably my favorite version ever of this tune
My favorite version of my favorite song. This version is just perfect. Especially Jerry in the background. It just hits all the right notes. Absolutely amazing.
@@Bunbeck-pf9iwhey, I'll say this. I don't remember nearly as much the s*** I did 30 years ago as the things I did recently. So what's important is make the most of your life right now, so the memories that are recent in your mind are the ones that will make you the happiest❤

Thanks for sending this out Beautiful version. Bob is so hypnotic here it’s almost like Jerry doesn’t want to start that first solo. I almost Miss the distorted version. 😝
Best version of this they ever did. Bob is on point with the lyrics and Jerry with the back up vocals is chilling. Sad, happy, and beautiful all in one. At 9:45 it's just perfect. The Dead played Dylan's music like it was supposed to be.
I am so lucky to have had my puck rock ass stumble into these beautiful people in 1987. It is an absolute miracle that I was not only able to have seen this live but somehow realize how special it was without knowing the song. I watch this a few times a year and never forget to be grateful.
As an older deadhead, I love knowing that when there is distress I can come to youtube videos of the Dead and find a happy place. There's no hostility, no politics just music to feed each other. It is SO delightful and I'm glad as someone younger you came across it.
My dead years were 87 - 95. So grateful that was a part of my life. I first heard desolation row summer tour Charlotte and was in a trance the whole time. What a story.
Garcia's harmony at 5:23 (you can hear them blow) is chilling. I remember looking at my buddy and both of us going "whoa". 10 years of going on tour, til August 95 at Soldiers Field. Miss you guys.
Una y otra vez escucho esta versión. No puedo dejar de hacerlo. Es hipnótica. Llega al alma. Lleva al atardecer de la vida con una sonrisa. Dios bendiga a todos!
Look at Bob Weir in his '80's OP shorts, lol. This was right around the time I was fortunate enough to be living in southern California, where you stood a good chance of being within easy road trip distance of a Dead show every couple of months. I took full advantage.
Thanks for uploading this video LoloYodel. This Dylan song performed by the Grateful Dead is the closest thing I have found in 44 years that describes who I have come to be (every single character in the song) and the way I feel or sound at any given moment. Things do come full circle eventually if you let them.
Start getting educated, it’s takes a long time, so many songs, so many different versions, era’s, up’s and down’s, I’ve been a serious dead head for 17 years and I still discover new jams and that’s why this band is pure Magic! 65-66/ 67-72 /73-79/80-83/84-89/90-95. My favorite years are 1970, 1974, 1977, 1980, and 1989. Even though the 90’s were very hit or miss with Jerry’s health/drug problems. But somehow one of the most majestic pieces of music ever played live period was from Jerry’s final show, before he checked out, on 7/9/95 is “So Many Roads” during the second set! Every time I hear it I want to cry and smile at the same time! Just be careful, they’ve been known to Steal Faces right off of people’s heads! But even with a stolen face there’s nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile!!! GDF FOR LIFE
Imagine being Bob Weir and standing 10 feet to the right of Jerry Garcia for nearly 30 years. He had the best seat in the house every night. And then imagine continuing to sing and play without him for nearly 30 more years. Weir has seen it all.
Change your settings in UA-cam under montization to get rid of mid roll ads please. Great song. Don’t want it ruined by UA-cam’s new ad policy. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, "us" the riot squad were quite restless that evening, beaming into Bobby's eyes, singing word for word with him. LONG LIVE THE GRATEFUL DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you LoloYodel for fixing this and uploading! I have watched it at least 50 times now I think. I LOVE it! This version of Desolation Row is by far the best! Even better than Bob Dylan himself and I love Dylan. I really appreciate you fixing and preserving this amazing piece of history of Bobby, Jerry and the entire Grateful Dead.
OMGarcia,,So kind of you Loloyodel. It was harsh but i would sill have to play it dozens of time. I love how Jerry and Bob are "on the same page" here. Jerrys backing vocals on this are small parts, but masterfully done. It physically and mentally hurt to have to hear that corruption in the previous upload, buts its so damn great I always hoped someone could step in and fix it. Good stuff man, thanks !
The first few times I saw this Weir had lyric sheets on a music stand-you could tell he was determined not to glance at it-this is a sweet version, there are others when Bob is on fire just damn near screaming, but this is a beauty-Mr Garcia’s perfect ornamentation is spectacular- MaxLove
Definitely the best version the Dead did here. Why Jerry didn’t echo Bobby for this song more, guess what makes this such a gem. Bobby hitting all the lyrics and Jerry’s piercing solos. Bliss
Confession time. I was going to name my firstborn son, Robert Dylan Fischer Merena, after the two greatest geniuses of my time, Bob Dylan and Bobby Fischer. It didn't work out as I planned, but I still think Dylan was and is the greatest music writer of my age. My favorite Dylan song is Desolation Row. I can't say exactly why, but I didn't. Just another one of those things that you can only regret in retrospect. Those of you who were Dead Heads while I was living in ignorance are truly fortunate.
