I saw Jerry probably over 150 times since 1973. Haven't been the same since August of 1995, when he died. From Capitan Trips Dark Star, to Mission in the Rain, How Sweet it Was. In 1975 I drove all the way from New York to Stinson Beach, in hopes of meeting him. Was Blessed to live in the Bay Area when he used to play the Oakland Colosseum every New Years, Shoreline Summers, and the Warfield in San Francisco. He taught me a thing or 2 about having heart and soul. When he sang and played guitar, my heart would dance. One of the greatest humans ever. Love you Jerry!
I wonder if I'll ever be able to watch this and not go from ultimate smiles and goosebumps to tears streaming. This song at this show... God, I miss him
Jerry always shined on slow ballads like this on his final years, a certain nostalgic feeling. His solo at the begginning... I have to stop everything im doing and just... listen.

Happy Birthday Jerry !!! Thank you for sharing all your God given talent, you were blessed with so many !!! Happy 79th !!! You will always be a Shining Star !!!
God bless him always, Jerry Garcia played so many types of songs well, but a soulful love song was right from the heart of him, and you can hear it in every word and note.
Wow...I was feeling down tonight, thinking of the craziness going on in the world, and got lucky and found this amazing piece of music and film. It settled my soul, and left me tearing, smiling, and brought me back into hopefulness. Jerry always had this way about him, and I miss him something terrible...Thanks for this gift!

This is the absolute best version of this song ever performed and is one of many great performances given during 1991 - possibly the last last really strong and exceptionally beautiful year of Jerry's career before the final fall. It was clear he had way more fun in JGB than with the Dead around this time. Love seeing the old man belt it and break out that china cat grin on the last loud choruses of the song - he's having a good time!!
I agree - he was finding more joy with the JGB and with the acoustic Grisman stuff. I wish he could have toned back from the Dead and the frenzy it had all become. the version of this from the Eel River shows is also a really beautiful version
This show in Hampton was exceptional! A few songs in when Jerry thanked Bruce for sittin' in, the crowd went wild with the Bruuuuuuuuuuce that resonated from the back of the Coliseum in a wave all the way to the stage. Jerry just stepped back, hands across guitar and surveyed the crowd. He knew he was on Bruce's turf for sure and that just made Bruce rock those ivories even more! This show is legendary!
The Dead had a few good years after 1980 but yeah. Things went downhill fast in 1982 but they bounced back a few times. 1989 for instance. But I hear ya.

Jerry does shinning star, Jerry just had that deep soulful guitar playing we all miss, 47 now almost 48 , people tell me I am missing out on other music, Do not think so ---> Be good all
One of the best things about Jerry’s playing was that no song was ever played the same way twice. Which means every performance is so unique that it’s imprinted on your brain, especially if you were there. I was here. I still hear it, with my eyes closed, even in my sleep, I would recognize this exact performance anywhere. Thank you, Jerry, thank you so much for this gift. And those back up singers, so amazing, so engaged with the audience. Very special.

He's not even looking at his guitar while he solos. He just knows it and feels it, like I read him say in an interview he just jumps on little clouds of exploration. Only he does it effortlessly without even looking.
I'll never forget the day that I walked into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and walked up to a display and saw Tiger in the display case. That guitar has brought me so much joy.
The image of Love, light, peace, togetherness and creativity - who better to deliver it than Jerry? This surpasses his Baby Blue. Thanks for the love and music Jerry.
You wanna get married?😉...I thought at the least I could try and put a smiLe on your face. Apologies if offence is taken for being so forward.. even if the intentions weren't to be so bold in such a question to a stranger.
this was best time I ever had at a show. probably was about first to pick a seat, general admission, so I rushed in--1st in line because I was so cold, under dressed, even though really wasn't all that cold. found myself right down front row stage right by roped off section. asked nice people who they were to find out it was Hornsby family and friends. I had stood there outside entrance 1st in line so long asking security lady how long til doors open. I knew this was special show but at time could not realize how significant it was cause I was 19. my friend s who took me said I was in for a real treat. they were little older and had baby boy, and were going wharf rat section so I was seated myself alone-- but then heard some one from behind my name. around and it was old childhood friend I hadn't seen for years. anyway thanks so much Kathy and Mark for taking me my first JGB. all great but my highlights--never can tell, s. star, w world and 2nd emotions plus how sweet, hell it ws all great. went on Charlotte as well.
My late and dear daughter's thirty first birthday, today. She walked on five years ago. Hope she hears this in Heaven.

One of the greatest performers the world will ever see!
Yes. I have as many Grateful Dead live CDs as anyone you know. And a Lot of GGB live. The first time I heard this I cried. Paralyzed. It’s definitely one of his greatest performances ever. Expert’s are definitely within 10:32 the eye of the beholder. You are an Expert on the subject. ❤
This song makes me feel every emotion!!
I like how he smiles he's really happy, full of love it seems. He's happy to be passing it on to us
This is considered by many as the best JGB show ever. Brilliant version of this song. Tear...
far from the best. who cares what other's opinion are anyway? it's probably because bruce is on it and i can't stand bruce. those are newbie / touchhead opinions. they don't count
Best 90s JGB show, but there were some monsters back in 75, 78, and 80!!
I remember listening to the original version by The Manhattans as a kid on the radio.... it always struck me as such a unique and beautiful song. But wow, Jerry.... he obviously felt the same way.... what an incredible cover this is.... the man had soul!!! God Bless ya, Jerry....
Gloria really encouraged Jerry to explore his love of Mowtown. Thank you both!! Some of my favorite JGB jams came from that great catalog!!!
I end up listening to this about 3 times a week!
Beautiful sound. Thank you for capturing the majesty.
Missing Jerry more than ever. 💜Days Between.
Jerry would've been 75 today. R.I.P. my old buddy...

He's not even looking at his guitar while he solos. He just knows it and feels it, like I read him say in an interview he just jumps on little clouds of exploration. Only he does it effortlessly without even looking.
In truth ...No great seasoned player needs to look at their instrument...It simply not necessary..they' re great
seasoned players..just saying
repetition, hours practice with a lil
Doug Misantoni it’s bad practice to look at what you’re playing.
One of my favorite shows of ALL time! Thanks for posting this!

So touches my heart!!!!! Thank you!
My dream to have this played at my wedding.. if that day ever comes that is (:
You wanna get married?😉...I thought at the least I could try and put a smiLe on your face. Apologies if offence is taken for being so forward.. even if the intentions weren't to be so bold in such a question to a stranger.
This stuff always gets me all teary eyed. thanks for the really good sounding recording.
Thankful for this footage. Thankful for Jerry. And for the music. And to be able to see him smile. Impossible to be unhappy watching this.
Jerry put so much emotion into his voice! He had such a joyful vibe! Thank you for putting this great performance on UA-cam!
amazing memories all flood back amazing show for me!!!! thks ks for taking me back
this was best time I ever had at a show. probably was about first to pick a seat, general admission, so I rushed in--1st in line because I was so cold, under dressed, even though really wasn't all that cold. found myself right down front row stage right by roped off section. asked nice people who they were to find out it was Hornsby family and friends.
