I was visiting a long time organic soil growmie about ten years ago while he was watering his plants. I asked why dont you automate your watering it would be so much easier. He said because I like to spend time with each and everyone of my plants so I do the same thing and often think of him when im watering. With that being said I still took the time to listen to what you had to say.😊

@@luis4210 hi friend, what are the changes, longer cycles in later stages, or more frequent? My friend experiments with various ways to water/fertigate and has some zones that have short cycle timers(on for 10-20 seconds every 20-30 minutes), and some that have 15 minute on times every 2 or 3 hours. He said he doesn’t see huge differences. He’s in coco. He also hasn’t seen a big difference in using synthetic nutes in conjunction with some beneficial bacteria like Hydroguard and Recharge added vs using synthetics with “sterile” solution like hypochlorous acid. What do you think?

A couple of tips for anyone new to blumats -- if you're using the blusoak tape in a gravity system, install it when your soil is saturated and set it to the hanging drip and leave it there. Tightening the knob beyond that just moves your trigger points to a drier range. Also, if you're using gravity, it's best to use two reservoirs and install a float valve on the reservoir that feeds the blumats. That way the water level stays constant, and thus the trigger points stay constant. If the main reservoir fluctuates, the back end PSI is also fluctuating, which alters the trigger points, as if you were adjusting the knob constantly.

As far as watering goes, I'm using the AC Infinity auto watering bases for the first time and so far they're super easy to use. It's a little tough to fill the reservoirs in the back row but other than that they're perfecto. I like bottom watering, it makes over watering impossible.

Just wanted to mention, after listening to this (as a podcast) I upgraded my grow to gravity-based Blumats (from electric pump-based drip-feeding). I contacted Sustainable Village via their website chat and requested a free design. Cooper called me back to learn how I'm growing and what I want to improve in my (multiple indoor and outdoor) grows. They made sure to only sell me what I needed and didn't try to upsell me on anything, except to mention that I can easily upgrade my new design by adding a pump later. Super impressed with the customer service and follow-up.

I do love Chris and his show, but I must comment on the company the guest represents. I would like to say, referencing at approx 19:30 of the show, that I have gone through 4 of the BluMat Digital Moisture Meters from Sustainable Village, in 2 small grows. I use 15gal fabric pots from BAS and had 1 of these BluMats 9" meters in each of two pots. They invariably failed right at beginning of flower, meaning the digital readout stopped working. These meters are not cheap, about $80 + shipping each. They do not transmit via Bluetooth or wifi, so if the display goes dead, and if their method of bringing it back to life fails, which it always does, you are f-ed. Now I will say that they did replace the dead ones under warranty all four times, but the process for the replacement was very slow. After the 3rd & 4th crapped out, I again complained and asked for a refund and that I would ship back their useless products. They would only replace them. In the meantime, I was already using Ecowitt's shallow moisture meters, and found out that they made deep ones at almost half the cost of the BluMats, too, which btw Ecowitts do transmit their data via Bluetooth & wifi. So I got the deep Ecowitts and they work perfect, no moving parts to screw up, and the deep ones also have a digital readout at one end of the 1 meter long cord that has the sturdy bury-able sensor at the other end. So, I'm stuck with 2 new BluMats moisture meters that I do not want nor will I use again. Full disclosure, I am a retired guy that grows small batches and I do not work for BAS, Ecowitts, BluMats or Sustainable Village, nor do I have any interest in their companies.

I also run Flo by Drip Hydro once a week to keep the lines clear but they clog back up before the next Flo feed. Blumats should make their drip lines a little larger, now I’m back on a timer system and ebb and flow by Air Cube, Blumats is sitting in a bucket 80 carats worth of them

I pump 5 gallons of water up to my 10 gallon reservoir every 3rd or 3 1/2 days while in flower. I would hate to be guessing dry back with heavy 15 gallon pots in a cramped space with a trellis net. I set all my 9 inch carrots myself. 1.25 arrows of the dial past hanging drip for peat super soil. seems to work fine. My nugs are larger than ever end of week 5 of initiation. A few times I have to pump 10 gallons to top off so it varies.
