I agree.. I’ve had some of the best weed you can find and the ash was kind of hard and black/grey. You had to flick it off or bump it against the ashtray. It wouldn’t just fall off or blow away.
In my nearly 20 years of growing I have only ever seen it as a "good sign" when i see the leaves praying to the light like that, as I have never seen it happen when the plant yeild looks bad. My thoughts on it are the plant is happy with the light its getting at the top and is trying to let light into the bottom of the plant.
I’d have to say Tad Hussey podcast is the best science based canna podcast out there by far. Garden talk is my favourite podcast that is more digestible to the average grower/gardener. If you really want to nerd out about soil science then Tads podcast is top notch

Come from farmers and "praying leaves" are a sign the corn needs watered to them. So I always look at it as the plants will need watered soon, but if I keep them in that range where they're usually praying (besides lights on and just after water) then they tend to seem happy.

This is how I learned to water and why it's so hard for me to explain. "Umm, I'm subconsciously recognizing several indicators all at once, I just know" is hard to explain in detail 😅.
I always take my clones from the main best tops sending the best tops into two ways and getting the best quality clone from the main atypical maristem I always take the best tops then have the best cuttings growing thereafter 👍👍👍
I grew everything that has roots, stuff that did not have roots, shrooms other shrooms, some spiders and a slug. One thing I learned from all this: Live does. Live does things. Inspect it, dont step in the way, dont step ON it and try not to hurt yourself. Or others. Maybe that is more than one thing learned but I extrapolate.
I found that my plant inside will pray towards that light around the same time every day like clockwork, usually around 5-7 pm. My timer is set to 16 hours on 8 off starting around 5am to 11pm, I originally set it from 6 to midnight, but my timer is time traveling😂. I should get a new one, but I just reset it once in a while and it keeps working. It only walks back a minute a day, so that is the least of my worries. I’m more worried about my outdoor plants that are about to get their first day of triple digits here in California. I don’t have any shade cloth, so my instinct was to flush the plants yesterday while it was cool, so they would have plenty of water, but they are in grow bags, so I’m probably gonna have to water again tonight. If you were interested in the strain, I’m growing Maui Waui and White Voodoo(Maui Waui x White Widow F1 Hybrid).

I don't know about the guy you're asking but my plants pray when they're growing into my CMH lights where it's really intense and hot. To me they look unhappy. When I raise the lights and the leaves fan out I feel they're comfortably basting in the sun. When you grow a long time the plants just talk to you or something, like a vibe.

Thx for discussion on white ash. My 33% bud i just harvested. Burns salt and pepper. It was flushed with crystal geysher water for 2xweeks in living soil. Bud isxstable in grove bags at 60% RH. So not dry and high resin. So nice to hear your thoughts on that.
Hugel culture is balanced by manure. So wood first, then a load of ruminant manure, then at least a foot of compost/soil. 1st year will be fine, the following years will be amazing. (I'm an organic fruit farmer, living soil, been doing this for 20 years. Still have needed to feed a hugel bed.)
Cannabis has an endomycorrhizal relationship. What you’re seeing is root hairs. The mycorrhizal fungi is only visible with a microscope via staining as it infects inside the root. Hope that helps!
Hi guys, great show. On the hollow stem theory, could it be strain or genetic ? I have noticed it in the same garden bed one plant had hollow stem, one had pith centre and others had solid stems. Same mother and father, f1's. As you know there's acouple of different phenos, could this be something for others to look into. This is just what i may have noticed over the years. I have also heard a few people having the theory of termites, which i don't believe to be the case but hey everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Happy gardening everyone all around the world. Kiss seems more science based. I struggle with the "cult" mentality that is so prevalent within organic growing. Scientifically, I understand that 🪱💩 tea's are not doing anything more than a handful of compost top dressed would do but I think it is still fun to do.
My big take away is that the world of cannabis has way too many myths and urban legends bc of its underground status. The more you grow like any other plant you start to realize keeping it simple is the way to go. All of this extra crap and clutter like other parts of our life are so unnecessary
As a grower for 39 years also this guy is legit. I hope he dont fall into the bs VPD trap tho. Hes right about the praying leaves and white/black ash. For cannabis, the hollow stem theory goes the less pith the higher the THC. At least i read that decades ago in one of the old cannabis science books. And cannabis never sleeps thats why it thrives under 24hr light. Some plants need sleep, cannabis isnt one of them.
@@williammccormick1092 VPD is bs. Just another avenue for a business cash in on. Cannabis is a simple plant that thrives in most conditions. An indoor garden is already paradise. You can grow cuttings from the same plant in totally different environments and they'll turn out the same, I do it all the time. I don't know what you're wondering tho. I know some think vpd stops mildew/mold. Some think it makes bigger buds. It's all bs. You can grow a plant in 20% humidity from seed to harvest and have perfect plants. VPD charts are all different anyways so which one is right? Which one is designed for cannabis? I did a video a while back comparing VPD charts, a couple of them would cause a high chance of getting mold in flowering. Enviroment is easy, you don't want PM or mold but using VPD can cause both. Keep it simple, keep your humidity low in veg (50ish) and switch to 40-45% a month into flower. Even lower if you got monster buds. Keep your Temps in the normal range. It's really that simple. Wanna know how I control my enviroment? Set the Air conditioner to 76° and my dehumidifier to 50% in veg, same for flower but humidity is lowered to 40%. Set it and forget about it. Cake.
I disagree totally with your 24 hr light cycle unless you're talking autoflowers. How the hell are you gonna transition a photoperiod without swtiching the cycle indoors, it will be in perpetual veg stage?
@@stangcobra592 I could have been talking about mothers, clones, seeds and vegging. It's pretty common knowledge that plants need a dark period to trigger flowering so I didn't feel the need to mention it. The point is, Cannabis never sleeps, even when it's dark!

The leaf angle thing I don’t get lol. People say that it represent overall plant health - he says; well there’s no proof of that. Seems to be so many variants we can’t determine what does it… well then it’s likely overall plant health no? The plant is comfortable and is trying to get more light by angling leaves
I think it’s all variables it’s the inter-relationship like he said at one point later on. If my plants aren’t praying I will adjust variables until they are - I will water lightly I will adjust light intensity give some airflow or take away airflow or whatever I think has changed in the environment sense the leaves were praying. I would believe this wasn’t a positive sign if it could be shown to be but until then I am fairly convinced it means they’re doing ok.
What's better fabric pots or plastic pots? Shouldn't u start plastic to get a good root zone then switch to fabric at flower to not get root rot and let the roots branch ?
Here my extensive experience transitioning, my photoperiods HATE going from solo cup to 1 gal plastic, I only keep them in this for about a week to get some size before final pot. When they find a new home in 5-7gal fabric it's like night and day, explosive growth, no drooping. And it surely doesn't seem strain specific every time it happens..

Talking about knowledge.... there's a difference between belief and knowledge. I don't think anybody is making a claim of absolute knowledge. "Knowledge" is justified true belief. There is faith which is belief without reason, confidence which is belief proportional to the evidence, and delusion which is belief despite evidence to the contrary. If you have a rational, reasonable, confidence based belief, we call it knowledge. We do not need absolute knowledge in order to know things. When people say "just a theory" it demonstrates a misunderstanding/misrepresentation of what a theory actually is. People often use the word "theory" to refer to an idea or wild guess - but that's not what a theory actually is. A hypothesis is a testable claim - an educated guess. A theory is basically a tested true hypothesis that has explanatory power. A theory is tested and proven over and over again. If it wasn't, then it wasn't a theory. Most "conspiracy theories" aren't theories - they're hypotheses at best and delusional baseless assertions at worst. For a belief to be considered knowledge it has to be rationally justified. The burden of proof is on the positive claim. If someone makes a claim, you should withhold belief until belief is warranted. You shouldn't believe things based on faith or delusion. You shouldn't believe something is true until proven untrue nor should you believe that something is false until proven true. Knowledge is a subset of belief because you have to start from somewhere which is an agreed upon premise that doesn't have to be argued for to be accepted ie. truths that are self-evident (ex: existence) (a premise isn't necessarily a justified belief) but I guess I'm getting off topic.

That's how we did it in the wetlands in Michigan, I never knew it was called Hugelkultur. And yes, we prepared the mounds the year before.

I think the praying all day just means they want more light. I like to see them start the day down, pray, and end back down again.

Yes look into Matt powers, he uses a new technique with microscope and light. The mycorrhizae relationship increases P uptake ability by ALOT.

I've found that calcium nitrate helps best with a carbon excess cause the calcium seems to also suffer, not just the nitrogen

I tried the KISS method with GH's Maxxibloom and that lasted ONE run, that stuff is garbage.

@@williammccormick1092 VPD is bs. Just another avenue for a business cash in on. Cannabis is a simple plant that thrives in most conditions. An indoor garden is already paradise. You can grow cuttings from the same plant in totally different environments and they'll turn out the same, I do it all the time. I don't know what you're wondering tho. I know some think vpd stops mildew/mold. Some think it makes bigger buds. It's all bs. You can grow a plant in 20% humidity from seed to harvest and have perfect plants. VPD charts are all different anyways so which one is right? Which one is designed for cannabis? I did a video a while back comparing VPD charts, a couple of them would cause a high chance of getting mold in flowering. Enviroment is easy, you don't want PM or mold but using VPD can cause both. Keep it simple, keep your humidity low in veg (50ish) and switch to 40-45% a month into flower. Even lower if you got monster buds. Keep your Temps in the normal range. It's really that simple. Wanna know how I control my enviroment? Set the Air conditioner to 76° and my dehumidifier to 50% in veg, same for flower but humidity is lowered to 40%. Set it and forget about it. Cake.
I disagree totally with your 24 hr light cycle unless you're talking autoflowers. How the hell are you gonna transition a photoperiod without swtiching the cycle indoors, it will be in perpetual veg stage?
@@stangcobra592 I could have been talking about mothers, clones, seeds and vegging. It's pretty common knowledge that plants need a dark period to trigger flowering so I didn't feel the need to mention it. The point is, Cannabis never sleeps, even when it's dark!
how are humidity and temperature a trap there are hundreds of studies of how these factor affect plant growth, now if you are talking about being a vpd freak and freaking out if its not optimal vpd all the time I get shitting on someone like that

It says that the fungus relies on the bacteria and and so sends mycelium to the surface to fetch N2 from the air and brings it down to nodes that fall off and provide N to the soil via Chitin.

The leaf angle thing I don’t get lol. People say that it represent overall plant health - he says; well there’s no proof of that. I think it’s all variables it’s the inter-relationship like he said at one point later on.
If my plants aren’t praying I will adjust variables until they are - I will water lightly I will adjust light intensity give some airflow or take away airflow or whatever I think has changed in the environment sense the leaves were praying.
I would believe this wasn’t a positive sign if it could be shown to be but until then I am fairly convinced it means they’re doing ok.

What's better fabric pots or plastic pots? Shouldn't u start plastic to get a good root zone then switch to fabric at flower to not get root rot and let the roots branch ?
I start in peat pod then transition to plastic then fabric one gallon meow
That's what I do, I go from peatpod to solo cup, to plastic 1 gal to Fabric 3 or 5 gallon for photoperiods.
I stick to plastic, easier to transplant.I use clay pepples as drainage. Keeps the roots oxygenated and lets the water evapourate easier
Here my extensive experience transitioning, my photoperiods HATE going from solo cup to 1 gal plastic, I only keep them in this for about a week to get some size before final pot. When they find a new home in 5-7gal fabric it's like night and day, explosive growth, no drooping. And it surely doesn't seem strain specific every time it happens..
@@mb2776 How many inches on the bottom mb2776 for the pebbles, read my previous reply, I'm constantly stuggling with the 1 gal plastic stage and root oxygenation seems a logical issue. In this pot my plants always look sick drooping whether moist or dry?
But also years 3 to 5 with a pile of wood chips seem to be most productive with less inputs.

Yes Hemp is grown for rope due to much thicker stems full of fiber and hardly hollow where as plants that are hollow are associated with higher cannabinoid content leading to the old hippy chant good for rope bad for dope and vice versa the plants hybridized to make good hemp have little to no drug content but a super fibrous hope this clears the difference between hemp and what we smoke even though they all belong to the cannabis species

Talking about knowledge.... there's a difference between belief and knowledge. I don't think anybody is making a claim of absolute knowledge. "Knowledge" is justified true belief. There is faith which is belief without reason, confidence which is belief proportional to the evidence, and delusion which is belief despite evidence to the contrary. If you have a rational, reasonable, confidence based belief, we call it knowledge. We do not need absolute knowledge in order to know things.
When people say "just a theory" it demonstrates a misunderstanding/misrepresentation of what a theory actually is. People often use the word "theory" to refer to an idea or wild guess - but that's not what a theory actually is. A hypothesis is a testable claim - an educated guess. A theory is basically a tested true hypothesis that has explanatory power. A theory is tested and proven over and over again. If it wasn't, then it wasn't a theory. Most "conspiracy theories" aren't theories - they're hypotheses at best and delusional baseless assertions at worst.
For a belief to be considered knowledge it has to be rationally justified. The burden of proof is on the positive claim. If someone makes a claim, you should withhold belief until belief is warranted. You shouldn't believe things based on faith or delusion. You shouldn't believe something is true until proven untrue nor should you believe that something is false until proven true.
Knowledge is a subset of belief because you have to start from somewhere which is an agreed upon premise that doesn't have to be argued for to be accepted ie. truths that are self-evident (ex: existence) (a premise isn't necessarily a justified belief) but I guess I'm getting off topic.
