I do indoor grow living soil use water and sugar for CO2 tapwater, but I do pH balance bring it down between 6.3 and 6.5. You do need your soil pH in between six and seven for plants to respond or use all organic fertilizers from down to earth.
Adding beneficial bacteria and microbes to my hydro system using synthetics has given me the most Terpy buds, I believe no matter how you grow, if your giving the plant everything they need it will maximize plant production regardless of synthetic or organic.

And I thought my 240ppm water was bad. I wouldn't mind using it on an outdoor ground grow, but growing in coco-coir or hydro it's really tough to use anything but RO water within at least 40 ppm because tap water becomes an uncontrollable factor at that point. I really think a general rule of thumb is anything above 200 ppm is where you start to potentially have negative compounds in your water.
I agree, but not if the tap water is at least consistent (because of previous water treating and so on). If it's consistent, it's more of a task of research and figuring out the right nute balancing for that particular water source. If it's not consistent, it's not trustworthy - at least at ppms over 100.
Disagree with leaf talk at 30:20. Leaves under the canopy do still photosynthesize, light penetrates through upper leaves to them. Any photons hitting the soil are wasted photons/energy when indoors. As lower leaves age they go into "senescence", and the plant uses them like a battery full of nutrients cannibalizing the leaf and mobilizing the nutrients to other locations in the plant and causing the leaf to yellow and fall off. I try to leave as many leafs on as I can, but do strip bottom quarter and some interior for airflow.
Only 10% of light will penetrate through a leaf, and MOST of that is IR / Green.. which isn't always the best spectrum for those lowers! Removing the lowers for airflow is a great habit!
I cloned a Lemon Haze auto. It basically grew just like if it was allowed to develop as a branch. The one benefit was that it was the plant I sprayed to get seeds rather than put colloidal silver on a plant I plan to utilize. I would definitely do it for seeding purposes. it's also easier to separate the plant from the females.
I was doing skywalker OG auto flower, and I had an issue with cloning them because they were the flower before the branches had enough time to get long enough to clone but once in a while, I was successful cloning an auto flower

If you want 0 ppm, you need to deionize the water. but when you ro/di your water, you have to add back an ion buffer (calcium carbonate, or sodium bicarbonate work well) and then add both, positive and negative ions in form of some alkaline and acidic components. if combined with a good dose of cal-mag that contains a range of micronutrients (or you make your own mix) you make the water active and useable for the plants and their root microbials. You basically have to prep the water before you add the nutrients. If you want to perfectly control the nutrient intake of your plants, this is the way to go, but be prepared to make many mistakes. dialling in the right amount of buffer, ions and the basic elements to make the water active is a steep learning curve.
The "wasted" water will contain all the stuff stripped from the RO water. So the ppms will be more concentrated. Need to be careful using for fish. Outside plants/shrubs/trees will be be fine because of soil buffer. But def use the dirty fish tank water from water change to feed plants all the fish poop. They love it.
I don't use any filters on my garden in the backyard or on my lawn. The lawn and garden have tons of microbes along with worms. Everyday you come out there you just see mounds of worms castings throughout the yard and garden
Hello. I'm a newbie grower (5th grow ever presently) and love your show too btw! I would like to suggest that saying 'organics v synthetics' isn't really a factually helpful comparison. You can in fact have a completely organic sourced fertilizer, but then if it is chelated - it will kill soil life and also force feed the roots, bypassing nature. So the real comparison is 'living soil' v 'chelated' fertilizers. The synthetic 'chelated' process is specifically what kills soil life. Anyway, that's been my biggest learning as I'm growing in living soil, and until this became very clear, that it wasn't about 'organics', I was still having problems. Thanks for listening...Jules
This guy is brilliant man. He sure does know what hes talking about. Immediately subscribed to his channel. Excellent show Chris 🥂👌🏽..you need to have him On again... The only 1 thing I disagree with is he said high THC/ resinous plants produce a dark ash & not white ash. NOT true..
I just got into RDWC hydroponics. I had some hiccups along the way totally my fault not paying attention. Wk 7 of flower for an 9 wk plant and My roots incased my air stones and the plants drowned from not getting oxygen to the roots. Now I still had 1100 ppm in my solution at that time and had to pull the plants 2 wks early. They didn't have a fade at all and to my surprise the bud taste beautiful and burns great with a white light gray ash And is still potent. So I'm now confused myself on the whole flushing lol.
My ppm from the tap runs about 280-300. I take half RO and half tap and bring the ppm down to 150 ppm. I still run an air pump through it, but the 150 ppm gives me a good base and the ph doesn’t shift like with straight RO water.
It's not too late to use 4 or 5 different types of sugars in bloom. Maybe there will be a difference, maybe Black Strap is the best , maybe another sugar delivery to buds works as well or better. The results could really only be determined by sight, smell, and smoke. There may or may not be a difference in THC quantity. That would require testing. If you use R.O. to make a compost tea, it's no big deal. Distilled water has more potential for deleterious effects on your body's mineral content.
I make maple syrup and have processed 12 gallons of finished liquid gold. I've been adding it to my water and feeding 3 plants. I also have 3 of the same strain and am adding molasses to those. I'll see what happens in 6 weeks
@@twobeards6714 That's exactly the kind of thing I was talking about. I've seen flowers get extra bloom just by dumping half a Coke aroind the plant. Are you in Canada or New England?
I think Bill clones while the autos are in the veg stage..these are just my thoughts but taking a clone in veg with a node or 2 branching off would grow bigger than an auto from seed only because the time it takes the seed to germinate and grow to the size of the clone would be a few weeks while the clone is established in a week or so growing with a bigger head start..just my thoughts..already with a few tops if u train it immediately after rooting
My Canadian brother lol ugh the black ash syndrome, thank you for the explanation from both of you, Thanks Chris about mentioning the tests on flowers and the leaf tissue tests. Its sad people shun completely great smoking flower all because they placebo themselves into being put off by the colour of the ash lol
I've done experiments of trying to breed a strain more resilient to the stresses of revegging, with the purpose of creating a strain which can go into flower multiple times over its lifecycle, with the way too ambitious goal of "immortalizing" plants. DO NOT DO THIS, I still have regrets and I feel really bad for what I did to those plants. The cannabis plant is extremely prone to switch or even mix traits into new traits when put in situations such as revegging, or extreme stress, which makes breeding of such traits next to impossible. All you get is a strain which begs you to axe it early out of its misery. Maybe with some direct genetic modification I can see such a strain happening, but from breeding alone it's just plant abuse.
Were you feeding with excessive phosphorus? I know plants can "reset" the timer when interrupted. I always thought though that when fed excessive phosphorous, that'll push it to "reset" kind of just like a female bodybuilder when taking excessive "enhancements". She will start showing signs of maleness. Deeper voice, facial hair, high fiveing, tattoos, and wearing boots.
@@DavidfromMichigan interesting, I’ve never thought about that but that was definitely not the issue I’ve run the same strains before with no issue and only feed with maxi
No flush in organic grow and the stomata of the plants need more time than 5 minutes to open, probably I have sth like 2 hours light in the head from school back then But i guess it depends on the plant, but just let the plants sleep ^^ But i never close my tent to 100% because of warm place
Amazing video as always! I have a request for you sir! I think an episode with 'the cannabis kronicles' would make for some amazing content. He has a high knowledge on autos!
I have cloned an auto flower as in cut a branch and rooting them .The problem is the plant does not get any bigger it just continues from the point when you cut the branch off . It continues to flower. not worth it , you loose too much product . Tried it a few times with the same result .
It depends on the stage of the plant when you take your cutting. In my experience, I broke a branch while training in Veg. It was about an 1inch tall, and only had the node and two fan leaves. I planted the node in the ground with the fan leaves on the soil. Now it's about 10 inches tall inside of a 1 gallon pot.. what I've done to increase size, is to transplant it as soon as it reaches the bottom of its container. The plant will continue to grow until it hits the bottom of its container, and then it will flower. That is, if you took the cutting early enough.

@slackjawRegurgitate what Cletus? Having writing ability?
Great episode!👍
That is insane what Bill is doing, he is a master for sure.
100%!
@@TheBudLab great conversation with Chris.
@TheBudLab
#TheBudLab Just curious what wavelength(s) of IR are you experimenting with or which have you already determined work ?? Thank you.
I followed Bill Ward’s video on the cloning of the autoflower and was really surprised. And like TBL beliefs on flushing.
I have found sun drying rot suspicious plants after a wash before hanging them have shown great results ( we have 15% humidity) 🤞
"final step" ... hahaha, nicely put! keep up the good work, PeACe
White Ash doesn't always mean quality!
Much love and respect
Budwashing at chop is best when plant matter is healthy as well
I've done experiments of trying to breed a strain more resilient to the stresses of revegging, with the purpose of creating a strain which can go into flower multiple times over its lifecycle, with the way too ambitious goal of "immortalizing" plants.
Thanks for sharing 👍
@@gandalf8216 very interesting. So when revenging to make a mother, is that a big No-No now?
Awesome episode Chris. Lol Zach Galifinakis really pulled out all stops for this sit down
Some pictures were taken of my plants during the night cycle and two of the 5 hermied, it doesn’t take much. The genetics were solid too
Were you feeding with excessive phosphorus? I know plants can "reset" the timer when interrupted. I always thought though that when fed excessive phosphorous, that'll push it to "reset" kind of just like a female bodybuilder when taking excessive "enhancements". She will start showing signs of maleness. Deeper voice, facial hair, high fiveing, tattoos, and wearing boots.
@@DavidfromMichigan interesting, I’ve never thought about that but that was definitely not the issue I’ve run the same strains before with no issue and only feed with maxi
Would really enjoy a talk with bill ward if you could get him on. I have a very small grow space so his knowledge of auto's has helped me a ton.
Well done 👍 bro smashed it again 👍
*****One again, unless we consume, look and smell each others final products its all subjective!!!*********
!!! GREAT VIDEO !!!!
100%
About to watch this awesome interview can't wait 🙏
I have successfully cloned and Autoflower as well and I learned from Bill Ward. The trick is doing it early enough.
No flush in organic grow and the stomata of the plants need more time than 5 minutes to open, probably
I have sth like 2 hours light in the head from school back then
But i guess it depends on the plant, but just let the plants sleep ^^
But i never close my tent to 100% because of warm place
Too bad April 1st already passed, but you guys should have switched shows.
I found it Ro helps keep the nutrients stabilized in synthetics.
Bill Ward is not only cloning Auto flowers but runs them under 24 hours of light.
…AND playing drums for Black Sabbath!! 😆
You should have SeedtoStoned on for a grow talk episode!
Amazing video as always! I have a request for you sir! I think an episode with 'the cannabis kronicles' would make for some amazing content. He has a high knowledge on autos!
What a cool video!
I've been hearing that spraying your plants with silica is a good preventative measure for WPM
Just water in diatomaceous earth once a week it does wonders
@@gtavtheavengergunnerlegend3340 good to know! I haven't used either but I haven't had a problem yet 🤞
At the near end of my flower I use uvb
And for the last week I pump uvc.
Major effects 🌴
Interesting, I've tested UVC in flower and it totally destroys the plant.
@@TheBudLab I use uv-b for the 2 weeks at 12 hours per day.
Uv-c for short bursts on a separate timer for the last week
Ripening is the term we are using now.
Such a great episode with so much great information in this one!! Hes got good energy and knowledge to match🤘✌️
R 😂…. In all seriousness this was a great interview 👏👏👏
Type R
Collect rain water guys
Rain water straight to go as long as the tank is sealed and no bugs get in there , and light to to on tank
Go watch the latest vids from Bill Ward. It's eye opening for sure
Maybe “flushing” should be called “soil rinse” and there’d be less confusion among the masses.
Great show!!
Cheers Chris. Great content as always. Cheers TBL homies ✌️
Glad you enjoyed it
Another awesome ep. great job. Thanks.
