- Replacing the front sprocket on my KTM 500 EXC.
This is part 3 of 3...
Part 1: replacing the rear sprocket
Part 2: replacing the chain
Part 3: replacing the front sprocket
When tightening the sprocket, a torque of 60NM should be used - that's a lot, with such a short key you will probably not press such power, even while sitting on a motorcycle.
I believe that the tightening should also be done in neutral not in gear. Also, like one comment said, some believe that greasing the shaft of the engine sprocket reduces wear. I don't have an opinion about that but I don't think it'd hurt to do so. To replace that shaft you need to open the motor, so I definitely don't want to see it wear out.
Edit: I just noticed that you said that the final tightening will be done sitting on the bike presumably in neutral so, ok.
Keith you must clean the spine and lubricate with moly grease to stop it wearing out
Your channel is a gem.
Thanks!
Hey Keith … thanks for the helpful videos. Just wanted to point out that the torque setting of 10Nm in this video may not be correct. I only found out after I had oil weeping from the sprocket area so I re-checked & found out that it should actually be 60Nm.
The 10Nm is for the plastic cover, not the nut of the engine sprocket which is, yes, 60Nm.
Hey mate, what ratios have u been running for adventure work now the 500?? Cheers
Love your videos great content. What rear tyre are you running there?
Looks like a D606 130 90 18, also good for the 690 enduro.
Tick.
Hey Kieth,
My manual it calling for loctite 2701 but it is not available in Oz. What type of loctite are you using?
Thanks
Scott
The blue one, 243.
