    Great attention to detail, nice to see you using stainless steel cable ties and PV Ultra. You're absolutely right to be sceptical about the bifacial panels, on a typical roof installation they add pretty much nothing, minimal light reaches the rear. They are designed for ground mount, car ports etc where there is plenty of space behind for light to get in and be reflected back.

    Hi Mark, I've not commented on any of your videos for a while, yet another one of your highly professional and tidy installations, regarding the outdoor fusebox it just proves why it is such a bad idea. I never miss any of your videos if I have nothing to say I keep quiet. Very best regards from Ray the old sod from North Wales.

    Currently getting quotes on an Sig system with additional panels on the back roof here in Ireland. Costs are eye watering, but when the only alternative with a backup box is Huawei, the costs seems much worth it suddenly. Few more quotes,and well. In the end 8.7Kw solar, and 8kw battery with backup gateway. Although depending on some other quotes, might go full 16Kw battery if possible.
    Stormy Mayo in Ireland gets a few power cuts.

    Top job - very nicely done indeed. I'd have advised the customer to get the roof powerwashed after the scaffold was first up, but cannot find any other improvement to suggest. I can only think of 2 reasons to use Tigos: customer insisted on panel level monitoring, or you were concerned that bifaciality would cause uneven performance among panels in a string. If neither of these I'd have used AIKO's brilliant new panels with partial cell-level optimisation. Or no optimisation at all - this installation has the least shade problems I've seen for a long time (Bristol: full of historic tall chimney stacks & mature trees). What you called the TAP was the Tigo CCA - which would have had a wired connection to two TAPs on the roof - which can be awkward at times.

    • @electrician247
      @electrician247  Місяць тому +1

      Power washing a roof is the worst thing anyone can do with concrete tiles. It washes away the abrasive finish and in 5 years will be porus anyone reading this never ever do that.
      Optimisers are primarily for safety as covered in the video. In experienced installers often discount this crucial aspect. In terms of shading all shading is well shading lol. The severity differs and we had a really bad one on the channel a few weeks ago. That said the optimisers have recovered lots of lost generation already. Proof is in the pudding so to speak. The Aikos are decent but several levels behind true optimisation. We have used them on unshaded ground mount. No optimisation is a terrible approach imho.
      The CCA receives data from the tap you are correct however using 2 on this install would be a waste of components. 1 is all this is required with appropriate installation. 10m range easily achieved, in fact well within that. Over application of TAPs brings added cost and zero benefit.
      Fortunately he customer got the right advice and the right installer. Hope that helps.

      We are a big customer/supporter of GivEnergy. If you didn't go to solar and storage you might not know. But they also have a product coming later this year that is better in every sense than the PW3.

    • @falfield
      @falfield Місяць тому

      @@electrician247 Later this yr? - I'd heard not till mid 2025. I hope GivEnergy aren't coy about their inverter efficiency curve: AiO Gen2 may indeed be best thing since sliced bread for big installations but I want to know the efficiency of their 12kW inverter at 500W or 1kW or 1.5kW (ie only a bit less bright than when you showed us this system). Inverter efficiency is rubbish at low % of peak output (ie in the 3 seasons when you haven't any to spare). So I think it's pretty poor that manufacturers fob us off with peak efficiency (worst) or CEC-weighted or Euro-weighted (little better). I think they should give us efficiency at actual outputs in 0.5kW increments.

    • @electrician247
      @electrician247  Місяць тому

      @falfield yes indeed later this year. Did you visit them at solar and storage? Efficiency within inverters come down to design rather than manufacturers equipment. Unless you have a sum total of 2 panels... otherwise string layout, optimisation and a good installer will sort you out. That said the efficiency is way ahead of the crowd across the mppt range. We are lucky indeed. Hope that helps 😜

    • @electrician247
      @electrician247  Місяць тому

      Don't follow. But we have strings via the 2 x 4 core PV ultra cables. 1 spare string in place for any future expansion left in the loft space into isolation.
      The other 3 pairs all on to the roof.

    Do Sigenergy batteries work well with Octopus time of use tariffs? Last I heard full integration was still pending. It would be very encouraging if this was possible!

    • @electrician247
      @electrician247  Місяць тому +1

      Only via the sigenergy AI presently. But I believe integration is incoming.
      That said other energy retailers are coming forward with some incredible options atm. We are looking to leave Octopus ourselves. So again speaking personally I don't hold much value into a products integration with a single energy retailer. I think those days are done.
      I hold more weight in the hardware and eco system of the products rather than API.

    I do not see a generation meter installed. Is it that they are no longer required or because you have used the gateway it is not necessary? Great install. You didn't say much about the Tigo otimizers though.

    • @electrician247
      @electrician247  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks Ryan, lots of videos on the channel covering the Tigo stuff. These end up to long if we go into absolutely everything on each project. We do expand more than most. The incoming changes to MCS in Jan 2025 will clarify the generation meter aspect. Its a hang over from earlier times pre smart meters and gateways/inverters logging accurately to MID standards. Also more from the days of FIT. With the data of all of those things above including the Tigo for me its a waste of plastic and natural resources serving no purpose.

      @@electrician247 Not sure if I missed it in the video or it was mentioned but I don't see any RCD breakers on the system. I see the MCBs in the gateway that the Sigenstor is connected to but from my limited knowledge I thought regulations require it to be connected to an RCD. Hope you get a chance to see this question as its a little while since you posted the video.

    Should I directly connect a set of 10 Kv or 13 Kv batteries for 1 phase to another inverter? Do the inverter panels from SIGENergy feel disgusting? What kind of inverter from SIG ENERGY do I need to service 13 KV on Phase 1? Which high-profile security should I choose? I have 10 bifacial panels but I don't know whether to connect them directly to the inverter from Sienergy or to the inverter and then to the battery and the inverter? The max inverter can be 5KV

    Have you had anyone instal the Sig/Poit Guard DC EV charger and how did it go? It seems to have some limitations on power output, they say it can do 25kw DC charging but that only seems to be true if using energy from solar, battery, and AC at the same time so I'm curious how that works in the real world.

    • @electrician247
      @electrician247  Місяць тому +1

      We have one coming up. The capability is beyond what is allowed in terms of the grid which is why the 25kW output depends on battery charge levels etc.

    Beautiful install a lot of professionalism. Do people get a lot of power-cuts, I've not had one over a few minutes in 10 years (South London) just seems a bit bizarre to spend all this money on 'gateways' and all the wiring and install cost, maybe its just because people want to post videos of the most impressive installs. I have a double socket wired up to my inverter in case of a power cut, yet to be used! I was going to install solar, but after getting the battery I spend so little on electricity it's no longer worth it!

    • @electrician247
      @electrician247  Місяць тому +3

      That in a nutshell is the beauty of choice. The live maps on power cuts daily do not lie. We have lots lol. Those outside of London are not so lucky. Especially in rural and even built up areas of Yorkshire. A system we installed for a customer back in January has covered off at least 4 full day power cuts. Which for them running a business from home is money very well spent.
      Everyone has different needs and requirements and that is where the right installers come in. We have shared loads of installs without backup and lots that had it when perhaps the benefits were not there. Mainly due to the fact the GivEnergy AIO could only be installed with a gateway for a longggg time so it came by default.
      In terms of cost the gateway element is pretty small tbh so often consumers opt for it anyway. When the day comes you have a full day black out you might wish you did 😉.
      I would never advise a single socket approach on any system in terms of EPS. All I would say is ensure you have a neutral earth bond config on its output and run through an RCD seperate to the inverter. Often see these kind of things done in unsafe ways. Thanks
