I was just watching another channel and she mentioned doing a bread run for the first load... What do you think? You suggest Skittles that we can then eat, she said that "The other company" wants you to do a bread run with bread that you've sprayed with a vinegar/ water solution, to "burn off the chemicals" and get your freeze dryer ready for use. Since freeze drying bread doesn't work very well apparently, you then throw out your vinegar bread, and the machine is ready to go. I would much rather do a load of Skittles but if I need to do a bread run then I'll do it, LOL.
It's called "degassing" and helps get rid of the gasses/chemicals from manufacturing, (the gases are harmless but it doesn't hurt to get rid of them, they are the same things that cause that "new car smell" in a new car.) Our machines are already "degassed" because as part of our testing, we run each machine for about four hours which is enough to remove all the chemicals/gasses. So instead of bread, we recommend a first load of Skittles or other candy, because it's easy and will help you get used to your machine. Plus you can eat it after. But if you still want to run a load of bread, it can't hurt anything. :)
We have this same vacuum pump. We have been filling our oil via that little blue dial - removing it and putting new oil in that way. Others have a different pump with a little valve that you “open” and remove the big round thing on top of the pump to fill oil. Was wondering if the pumps are different or should we be “opening” the little blue dial 1/2 turn and switch to filling our oil via that big round filter thing on top?
Our first load of Skittles turned out weird and doesn't look like the pretty puffs in all the videos. Everything was done exactly as instructed and the tray wasn't overloaded. Anyone else out there with the same problem?
Is it possible to reduce the power consumption at night - ie to run the vacuum pump more during the day -off grid here and I system can handle it but will hit the batteries a little bit hard over night
Unfortunately, there is not. Once the dry cycle starts the vacuum pump will run continuously until the cycle is complete this is to maintain the vacuum pressure while the water is being released from the food.
The freezer freezes the chamber, the trays heat to release the water, the vacuum pump turns on to pull the water out. It doesn't actually get hot, but it does create heat. Watts=Heat

Hi, I’m wondering how loud is the machine? I live in an apartment, not sure if it’s appropriate machine to use inside apartments. Thanks.
not as loud as a vacuum cleaner, but slightly louder than a clothes dryer.

Yes, in fact we do that here for our testing pumps. We use a 1 micron filter and it works great.

Couldn’t you just leave door open to defrost?
you could, but many of our customers are commercial customers and they need to bet their next cycle started as soon as possible.
