Fascinating information about the limestone. I didn't know it held heat. I was raised in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky, USA. That region used to be an inland sea. It's limestone, loaded with ancient sea critter fossils, lots of caves large and small. The water is sweet and the forage for those champion racehorses is full of good calcium for their bones. (Our bones, also!) So cool to see those sea stacks - wow! Nature is such an artist. :)
To clarify, it doesn't hold heat for longer than any other stone really. All exposed rocks will be warm on a summers evening, but that heat dissipates throughout the night. As days become shorter in autumn, the heat retaining properties of stone becomes less significant since the decreased sunlight and colder air temperatures won't let the rocks heat up. Gotland is far north, it's northern tip is not far from the 60th parallell (Anchorage, Alaska is roughly 61° north), meaning the stone heat retaining effect is negligible for the whole year apart from June, July and August, as the days get short quickly in September. The real reason Gotland is so mild is because it's a pretty narrow island in a sea that only freezes completely a couple times a decade at most. That makes it more difficult for the real icy air masses from the north and the east to cover the island in the winter, since the air has to pass over a (in comparison) warm sea to get there. I've been to Gotland a several times and am always intrigued by how tropical the flora is at such a northern location. There are wine producing vineyards, fig trees, mulberry trees, walnuts, even agave plants growing there in the ground all year round. At the same latitude in continental Canada and Russia, you're almost in permafrost country.
My favorite quote comes from Robert Lipkin who was once Evil Knievel’s bodyguard! “Attitude is the difference between an adventure and an ordeal.” With your attitude and sunny disposition Noraly, I see nothing but adventure for you! I did it on a 50cc Vespa during the 90's... Not the whole country, but far enough. It still could do 80km/h all day long, but an extra petrol tank was needed.
Visby is magical, it´s so wierd to see you walk/ride the streets I have walked so many times. Once I slept under the bare sky in a sleepingbag on Fårö, just above the sea stacks. I don´t think I ever slept that well, but the next morning we went down to the shore where I discovered that there was small snakes everywhere. Not dangerous but I don´t think I´ve would have slept one second that night if I had knowed. A little fun fact is that Ingmar Bergman the director lived on Fårön when he was alive (obviously)
I started out on a tote gote on the farm as a little kid. Then dirtbikes, streetbikes, etc. Rode a 1250 gs in Iceland. Most fun on two wheels was a 125cc Vespa on a perfect day in the Italian Tuscan countryside. Loved that little Vespa. I'm almost 60.
I used to do serious distances on my 1966 Suzuki 50 M12. 1,300 kms in a week. Great bike, good fun. Today, just had fun doing a track day in Almería, Spain on a Honda VTR 1000. Very different, but also a great time.
Rode my Honda S90 from LA to Death Valley in the summer when I was 15 1/2 (you could ride a 'motor driven' cycle with a learners permit). Had my bed roll (just like 'Then Came Bronson') and wore a serape (my arms were fried). Filled up my tank in Mojave, drafted behind trucks going 65 mph down Hwy 14 and when I got to Trona I could barely put 3/4 of a gallon in the tank. It's 75 miles from Mojave to Trona. Motorcycles (then later bicycles) meant freedom to me.

What an encounter your day is! Free ferry and on which you met a man on Vespa scooter travelling around wherever he goes. A blessed day on which you met your angel.
Nice to learn new things. We call the "sea stacks" Rauk in Sweden. Swedish scientist Carl Linnaeus was the first scientist describing the rauks on Fårö in the 1700s.
if your not in to old movies you probably dont know about Ingemar Bergman. He was an amazing director but a less nice person. Raukar (sea stacks) is prob the most famous part of Gotland. Visby and the wall around could beat em to the first place.

I could walk around the city for days, such a beautiful place. Suddenly I want to move. Thanks and love the trip and the videos !!
The more you travel and see the world, the more you get amazed at its diversity.
You're on a good trip. I was working on Honda's R & D.
Honda sound nostalgic. RONIN is written as 浪人.
meaning stranger or drifter.
Is the script Japanese?
@@MotoTrooper Yes.I am a Japanese. Honda retire man.
I love Japanese people and culture. Very polite and civilized. They make the best cars. For the last 40 years I have had three Hondas and Acuras. Right now I have Honda Civic SI 1988, Honda Pilot 2009, Acura MDX 2018 and Toyota Prius. They are very reliable cars. My next car will be a Honda like Ronin.
@@jonam7589 Thankyou very much !!
That's lovely :-)
Noraly named Ronin that name because of the meaning. There's a video where she explains the choice.
Very nice area to explore. I liked the sea stacks, that water is beautiful. and the guy on the Vespa was cool. Safe travels, Noraly!
Good evening Noraly it is midnight and a big 👍's up.
Amazing the difference when you sleep on a proper bed...😂
Ride and soothing music is just my favourite
Sweet video.....Loved every minute of it......Take your time Noraly I'm in no hurry to leave Sweden from your viewpoint.
What an encounter your day is! Free ferry and on which you met a man on Vespa scooter travelling around wherever he goes. A blessed day on which you met your angel.
Loved Sweden!
With all the trouble in the world you smile and welcome bring some real joy and balance to me after a long work week . Keep it up !! Thanks
Noraly keeps on entertaining us with her smile!
Touring on a classic Vespa is fantastic, great fun.
I’m guessing “sea stacks” be on Noraly’s next geology quiz. I’m going for extra credit on this one. Wonderful video as usual, ❤️ the channel! 🇺🇸
Nice to learn new things. We call the "sea stacks" Rauk in Sweden. Swedish scientist Carl Linnaeus was the first scientist describing the rauks on Fårö in the 1700s.
Thanks Thomas, I’m 72 and still learning.
@@baldybaldwin2825 yes, there is no age limit on learning.
Very nice video! A very beautiful city and great drone footage! Thanks for the update on your adventure! Ride safe!
YOU TAKE IT EASY AND ENJOY THE SUNSHINE,,AWESOME
I thought, Fårö, Wow, she is going to talk about Bergmann , but no, instead I learned about sea stacks. 😁 Thank you!
if your not in to old movies you probably dont know about Ingemar Bergman. He was an amazing director but a less nice person. Raukar (sea stacks) is prob the most famous part of Gotland. Visby and the wall around could beat em to the first place.
Kristofer Olsson - they were new when I Saw them. Not the stacks, the movies 😋
Another great film Noraly. Plus another geology lesson too, fascinating stuff. Thanks.
Incredible. With your knowledge of geology you take us to such unique places that few others would think to visit. But you take us there and give us insights from your fund of knowledge so that we can truly appreciate them. Then you switch seamlessly into history teacher mode. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Accompanied by such breathtaking footage, your videos are both substantive and such a treat. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Noraly, for taking us along and for all those hours of work you put in to create these priceless videos.
That must to be such an interesting place to explore! 👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I lived there for 17 years. That was not enough time to discover everything about the island. Go there, if you can! :-)
Such a beautiful island. Very idyllic place.
And the the blue water with the cloudless deep blue sky was mesmerising.
I love geology time! Thx for the vids.
I've been reading the comments and am surprised at the number of folks who, like me, enjoy the geology lessons from Noraly. She adds so much to understanding the part of the world she is exploring. 73, Mike
More geology please, not just "a little bit".
Having that kind of knowledge is an huge added value to this channel.
Anyone can make travel vlog, but not everyone can added value to their vlog.
this is a good video over sweden faro island take a good trip norlay stay safe
Ola Noraly I'm from Portugal, and I love your travels. I follow all your videos and I think it's fabulous. I love your sympathy. Good trip
