2012 Dodge Grand Caravan Fuel Pump Relay Repair

- Опубліковано 17 гру 2018
- The fuel pump relay on the 2012 Caravans/Town and Country minivans is built in to the TIPM and is not designed to be serviced or repaired. If you have one of these vehicles and it is intermittently not starting, starting and dying, or starting , stumbling and continuing to run the most likely problem is the fuel pump relay. This video details how to repair it without replacing the TIPM. The relay kit that I show in the video is a Chrysler part, and is available under the recall for the Durango, and Grand Cherokee that also used the same TIPM.
This a relatively easy fix as long as you have some basic soldiering skills, and mechanical knowledge. - Авто та транспорт
Joseph, THANK YOU. I was about to drop the fuel tank when I saw this. Didn't use the kit, went to parts store and spent $30 on a 30 amp relay, wiring and connectors, YOU ARE THE MAN!
The Mopar kit worked in my 2012 Town and Country. My local Chrysler shop says the kit is no longer available for them to buy, but some dealers still have them in stock. I paid $24 at the Chrysler parts counter. Not bad at all.
Awesome video and even better explanation. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Excellent job on this video
Very informational. I did it with a $5 BOSCH SPDT 12v relay from my local stereo shop. I just left 87a open. Works great! Thank you!
i guess I'm kinda randomly asking but do anybody know a good site to stream new movies online ?
@Keegan Julian i use Flixportal. You can find it by googling =)
@Ismael Alessandro Thanks, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) I appreciate it !
@Keegan Julian happy to help xD
Do you have a diagram of how you install the wires help me please
Great video and thanks
Hi how are? Have a unique fuel pump problem with my Town and Country van. Now i have jumping cable to power fuel pump from lighter source but I need to disable the power to pump first which means I would have to know how the fuel pump is being powered.
Good video
i have been searching for this par and cant find it. when i input the number on the bag at mopar, it doesnt pull up. your help would be greatly appreciated. mahalo from hawaii.
I love this product I need to order one
Good job
Anyone have issues with the tacometer jumping all over, and lights on the dash flashing on and off, after installing this?
Great video but I have a Routan but for all purposes its a town and country. Now my fuel pump stays running after I turn engine off . Can I from dealer only or can i buy it from Amazon. Thanks
What is the part number for the kit that was used. Would be very helpful
thank ya. exact symptoms i'm dealing with.
Same exact thing is happening to my 2012 caravan? What exact part did you buy?
I can’t get the part number you showed! How do I get the part to fix it
Hello I own a 2012 grand caravan I have the same issue with my fuel pump everything is the same as I seen in Several video I called dodge to see about that recall but they say my minivan does not have recall I explain to them about it and they still said there was no report and that I would have to pay out of my pockets. Is there a code that I could use that you know so they can see that my minivan falls into that recall
How do you know if it’s that or the actual fuel pump
What does the part cost? And about what does labor cost?
so brown wire is fuel pump switch correct?
cavity 10 for dark blue with an orange trace. it come out from the TIPM TO TO FUEL PUMP. THIS BRN/OR WIRE IS A 20AMP FUSED WIRE THAT POWERS THE INTERNAL FUEL PUMP RELAY.
Hey sorry I know it’s been a year, but what’s the pink wire he taps into? Thanks I’m advance.
It's a $50 part to fix and is as simple as replacing fuses. These are notorious in the 3.6 in this year range, and somehow the T&C was left out of the recall... the part can be ordered from 'Vertical Visions'.
I'm going to try thier relay kit. "TIPM Plug-In Relay System".
My wife's 2013 town and country is doing the same thing. Can you plaease tell me how much that part was.
Where did you buy it ? Please tell me.
Where can I get one of th relays!! I have the same problem on my 2011vw routan
Hi there everyone. This is the way you fix it!
How many Chrysler vehicles are out there running on that cheap bypass cable?
This is the correct fix for the faulty Fuel Pump Relay of that TIPM.
I did ask a question to that you tube engineer who makes the bypass cable saying:
“Will the fuel pump stay running with the ignition on and engine off with the bypass cable installed?”
But, but, but... that guy who invented the bypass is an engineer! 🙄
Just buy a Bosch brand SPST relay kit. It brings much more length of wire to play with. You know it's the right type because it only has 4 wires. I personally remove the TIPM completely. When I'm doing electrical, I like give myself wide berth to work with. The relay I mount to the fender apron, on the bracket where the hood ajar switch is located. I don't like the location the Mopar kit uses. It puts that relay in an area where it gets pelted by the elements and also can get wet. On the fender apron, it's far away from the rad support and debris.
What is the part number on the kit
Wish you mentioned which pins each wire needs to be tied too...
Thanks for the info. I looked up the part number on the bag and one of the new relay kits I found on amazon the photos they used are screen shots of this video. Its Quealzara brand sold by Baieuijia
Thanks for the info!
I found the part on Amazon! Got to admit it feels pretty good when someone uses screen grabs from my video to sell parts. Just wish I was pulling commission on it, lol.
Great video! But my repair kit from Amazon came with an extra relay #JD1914. Any thoughts about it. Everything else is like in your video.
so did the same to our van was there any transmission problems after you did the install we are getting a wine like we are out of fluid but yet theres oil on the stick ( that you have to purchase ) may not be realated at all but was just curious
whine might be your alternator
What wire is the pink and green trace. I’m working on a 2015 Dodge Ram. And have to do this bypass. But being different fuse box I have to just find what wire it is. What is the pink/green wire from. There is about 6 of the same color wires on my truck. Without that wire hooked up. The pump runs constantly when key is on. Even if truck isn’t running. So I’m guessing it is a sensor that only primes pump.
" blue gills and tommy cods"
It applies to Dodge Nitro.... ? it has te same TIPM
ok so i did this repair a few months back worked great now the cars back with the same issue, my wiring is good i replaced the relay to be sure, i have power at the (new) pump with no fuel. runs on ether any tho
ughts?
If you have power at the pump double check and make sure you have ground on the ground circuit for the fuel pump not the ground circuit for the gauge I don’t have a wiring diagram to tell you which wires are which. At the pump plug-in you should have one wire that has power all the time that is the power to the sending unit for the fuel gauge one wire that has power when the key is cycled on during the prime cycle of the pump and that is the pump positive wire. If you are checking a wire that has power all the time and not for the first 5 to 10 seconds after the key is turned on you’re probably looking at the power wire for the fuel sending unit. I hope this helps I don’t happen to have wiring diagrams handy for that vehicle to be able to tell you what color wires you need to look at for the actual pump power and ground.
Thank you for info issue just happened to me yesterday 10.29.20 , I have a 2013 Dodge Durango RT, that I take good care of , believe it or not it was the external 20A FUSE connected to the external fuel pump relay that they installed as part of the recall resolution, FYI, Chrysler service man states after all these years they still have no clue, and replacing the TIPM doesn't always fix the issue, and they will not just switch out the $900 TIPM unit.........Buy American, right ? so disappointed, these vehicles cost over $45000 plus and this is 1 on 11 recalls on the Dodge Durango and Jeeps, but we can get a satellite to send pictures of other planets from Tens of thousands of miles away.
Where are you located?
Why would you not put the part number in the description?
ooh, do you happen to know why pulling the fuse for "FUEL/DSL LIFT PUMP" shuts off the sound of the part running? It's M25, a 20A fuse. Does the 2012 GCV have a fuel lift pump? I pulled the "FUEL PUMP RLY" fuse and nothing changed, but with the ignition turned off the lift pump fuse turned on/off the part, respectively. Just curious. This is a pain having to disconnect my battery everywhere I go.
The issue you have found is that your relay it sounds like is stuck on. the FUEL/DSL LIFT PUMP is for the power to the fuel pump itself, while the FUEL PUMP RLY is the power feed to the fuel pump relay. If the relay was operating properly you could pull the fuel pump rly fuse and it would shut the fuel pump down as well by cutting power to the relay, but it sounds like you are having problems with your fuel pump running all the time even when the key is turned off? If that is the case I believe that your fuel pump relay in the TIPM is shorted and that is why you can pull the fuse for the relay, but nothing changes. Installing the external relay shown in the video should solve your problem. I hope this helps, and thank you again for watching, and contributing the link to the PDF for the instlation instructions.
What is the name of the part?
I cant no find this part anywhere......any info you have would be a great help........thanks

Easy to make a relay harness and add a fuse to it..
Sport Durst Chrysler in Durham NC had a couple of them. Good luck.
I have a 2013 Dodge Grand caravan RT flex fuel and it stop pumping fuel for no reason please help out.
If it is the grand caravan check with your dealer, it may be covered by the original recall. If not this would probably be the fox if yo are not getting power to the fuel pump.
So if there is a recall on the Dodge caravan as well can I take it into the Dodge dealership I bought the van from and when I finally have a problem with the relay will they fix it for me free of charge lmk thank you
They have yet to recall the Dodge Caravan’s for that, and they probably never will. Why I don’t know, but it’s absolutely a pain in the butt. I can’t even get that kit anymore without having a Vin number that was affected by the recall. So I have started building my own with relays from the part store.
@@JosephVollmar fcking Dodge just wants our money I got problem's with my caravan after I fix it I Will most likely get rid of it and no more Dodge product's for me
Awesome bud,, thanks for the video.. I have a 2011 Grand Caravan with the same problem,, I have access to the full fuse assembly from a 2013,, I wounder if I switched them out would that also fix the problem??
@Soul Seaker How you find out that you have a problem with the relay???
@@Donoprez My van has symptoms of the same problem but im hooking up a computer this weekend,, I suspect the master cylinder pump is gone and also the engine light comes on.. along with sputtering every now and then . Im going through the process of elimination first..Fuel filter .. Master cylinder and so on..Id like to replace the fuse assembly in advance just to have it done.. I found a guy on Ebay in the US who repairs them..
@@Home-ed6zg thanks for your quick response!!!
I have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan amd today for the first time I hear a homming noise coming from the rear part of the van, actually from the gas thank. Like if the gas pump was still running, this was with the engine off!!!
@@Donoprez Yep all kinds of strange things happen when the relay gives out, I have a hand held computer I purchased a few years ago im hooking it up tomorrow to check the errors..
@@Home-ed6zg thanks again and good luck with your car!!!
I had the WIN and the fuel pump relay bypass installed and my 13' caravan still has the Same starting problem. Cold weather starts it takes minutes to start. once it goes above freezing, it will start with no problems. The relay bypass didn't work for me unfortunately
Was it a failed fuel pump?
@@DanielOrtiz-uf6yb no. I have a feeling that it is one of the sensors starting to go bad, or there is a leak somewhere that is throwing a code. hopfully this spring Ill route out the problem. The relay repair did what it said it does. my fuel pump starts up and keeps on until I turn the key off and open the door.
I replaced the fuel pump and fuse box, it won't start , found out my girlfriend drop the fuel pump and didn't tell me, until I have put it back together,I have power to the fuel pump but the pump not working, do you think it was damaged when she drop it?
Yes, that is very possible.
Who can help me to find the right one for my 2012 Caravan ?
Google “Part 68269523AD mopar” I just found it for about $66 I will order once I can find a mechanic to fix. I have a 2011 Caravan. I called Chrysler and this is the part they said I need. Of course they recommend buying it from them for $148 as “that’s what I would do!” But I’m on a budget and that’s NOT what I’m gonna do! 😊 Best of luck to us all!🤞
Same problem with my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan!
Hey Joseph. Where i can buy the relay
You can no longer get that kit from Chrysler unless you have the vin of a recalled vehicle. You can buy a relay from the auto parts store and wire it in and build your own kit for less money than you can buy this kit for. On a standard relay pins 85&86 are your trigger and ground, and 87&30 are your load. Just remember the pcm always uses a ground to trigger the relay, so pin 85 needs to go to key on power, then 86 goes to the wire from the pcm. Then 87 & 30 are your fused power in and your power out to your fuel pump. Make sure you buy a relay rated for 30 amps or more that way you don’t have to worry about burning it up with the draw from the fuel pump. When you pull from your 12v power to feed the fuel pump relay you need a fuse link and a fuse to match the amperage of your factory fuel pump fuse.
But why install relay when you can by pass with a fuse?
The relay is for the constant high current draw that is required to run the pump. A low current circuit from the computer turns the relay on, but that circuit in the computer cannot handle the amp draw of the pump.
Tried to order this part and got told they could get authorization from crysler to release it for purchase because its only for recalls on certain vehicles, and my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan is not qualified.
That’s not a surprise. They gave me some trouble on the last one that I ordered, but I finally managed to talk the parts guy in to sending one out to me. The TIPM in all of the vehicles is the same. There never was a recall on the caravan/town and country for what reason I don’t know. You may try a different dealer if there is one in your area and see if they will sell it to you.
@@1975mabrown discontinued now
How did you come to the conclusion that this is what had to be done?
Fuel pump was running intermittently, checked my outgoing power from the relay and found I had no power when the pump wasn’t running but had voltage to lock the relay in. Determined that the relay was not engaging when the pcm wanted it to. I have seen this scenario multiple times, and after doing a lot of diagnostic work on the first one I now just check relay operation first before I even check out the fuel pump. They recalled the Jeep Grand Cherokees, and Durango’s for this problem, and the Caravans and Town and Country use the same TIPM.
Thank you , great video 👍🏻
What about 2008 jeep liberty
What is the part number
2019. I need the part number anyone?? I have the same problem on my Ram
CBWPR091AA discontinued so you have to shop around.
Anyone have a problem with there dodge grand caravan shuting down unhook the battery start back up no problems for a few days then doing the same thing won't start till you unhook the battery cable
I habe exact this Problem... How did your solv it? Tks
It’s works for 2008 jeep liberty
I forgot to add I have a 2012 VW Routan which is a Town & Country with VW emblems. So buy Mopar parts, a lot cheaper than buying same part through VW.
I bought my 2012 caravan used at a dealer in 2019..has my van already been done with the recall ?
It may have, I would check around the underhood fuse block (GEM) to see if there is an external relay mounted there.
can you tell me where you bought or where you got the kit
I ordered it through the local dodge dealer, but I had to order by part number. Some dealers are not wanting to sell it that way though because they have gotten wise to the repair on the Caravan/Townn and Country models. I have heard you can find it online though.
That's what I need done where are you located
Bloomsdale, MO.

🇺🇸👍
what the part number ?
CBWP R091 AA is the part number from the packaging. I will try to find the ticket tomorrow and double check that number. you may not be able to find it because I believe it is an internal FCA repair kit. I found out about it while picking the brain of a Chrysler teck the first time that I ran in to this issue. He told me that there was a recall for this issue for the Grand Cherokees and Durangos, and although the Caravan/town and country vehicles use the same TIPM they were never recalled. He also set me up with the repair kit and the instructions. The last one that I ordered the parts guy was trying to figure out how I knew about this kit. I had to request it as the recall part for the Grand Cherokee or Durango, because they do not list it in their system for the Caravan. He was also very reluctant to sell it to me as I was not using it on the intended vehicle and I had to convince him that I had done this before and it would work. I hope this helps, and thank you for checking out the video.
my local deal wouldnt sell my the kit at all ........so i bought a relay from vertical visions that has to be soldered on the board
www.verticalvisions.com/tipm-fuel-relay-solutions.html There are several options here specifically for this.

Mopar part number?
CBWP RO91 AA-001 search it on Amazon and you will find it.
Bro… great video, terrible echo
That harness is only available for vehicles under recall, at this time. In fact, dealers can only order 1 every 7 days.
Thank you so much
word of caution on the pin extraction -- use a magnifying lens and get a look at the tiny plastic latch if you are not familiar with it.
Discontinued part ! Now what. How about a universal relay. If new which wires are what
Pm me I can probably help you out , I actually doing this also
What to use mmnow im having the same problem and part is no longer available
@@victorjimenez9403 I did get my fixed , I found online a small relay board for $65.00.. I pulled 2 fuses and this small board just went into the fuse slots and the 2 fuses went back on the little board . And have never had a problem again
@victorjimenez9403 can you help me out please with the universal wiring relay. Thanks
I had a family member who was traveling at 70 mph on the highway. The van lost all power, ended up crashing into a ditch.. no help from Chrysler, no help from the NHTSA They dont care because there are tons of caravans on the road ...its all about percentage.. and cost to replace. The auto manufacturers have the NHTSA in their pockets
Apparently this part is discontinued now , anyone find another option ?
This part was remplaced by CBWPR091AB
If you are going to go thru all the work of "fixing it" by rewiring the thing, why don't you take it apart and replace the failed relay properly. Takes about an hour, part under $5, not a hack.
On these particular vehicles MOPAR lists the relay as a non serviceable part of the TIPM. I'm not willing to risk the potential implications of dissecting a customers TIPM to replace an internal relay that I may not be able to remove from the circuit board, and potentially have to spend several hundred dollars on a new TIPM when for about $130 I can wire in the relay and send them down the road. Labor is the most expensive part of this job and it would also potentially be more expensive to pull the TIPM out and apart to get to the relay just from the time spent. I by no means am an electronics expert, and am not well versed on working on circuit boards. This simply comes down to a risk vs reward, and by wiring in an external relay if it fails again it has now become a 5 minute repair.
