    THANK YOU! my ac compressor just got replaced for $1000 and the ac still didn't work. They told me I need to replace my TIPM because there is corrosion on it and it's affecting the temp control. Dealership told me the part would cost $2650 plus HST (Canada). Watched your video and went to a Kenny u pull found the same year caravan, removed the TIPM and installed it in mine. Didn't work right away even with the soft reset, so I did it overnight for a complete reset and BOOM! AC works like a charm. The tip cost me $50! You saved me!! Thank you thank you! Subscribed.

    An outstanding and thorough video. The dealership got me once before on this replacement. Gave me some BS about a core charge (not documented anywhere) and kept my orig TIPM. It was late, I was tired and broke; I gave up and went home. I’ve never gone back to that dealership, nor any Chrysler dealership since. My thanks to you all; I’ll be taking my swap this time into my own hands (with your help 🙏🏽). Cheers!

    I've just recently purchased one of these vans. The mechanic quoted me $2,200 dollars to fix my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan's TIPM. If I had that kind of cash, I'd have a 2023! This video is very helpful, and I will be using it to attempt to fix my TIPM. I'll update once the job is done!

      😂😂 yep! My dealership said the TIPM and PCM needed replaced and reprogrammed and quoted us almost $2,200 as well and not including almost $250 just to diagnose! The new TIPM's from Dodge aren't even fixed where it doesn't happen again later...only 2 year warranty 🙄 we are replacing both ourselves and PCM with lifetime warranty for under $500! Very grateful for this in depth video!

    I picked up a used TIPM at a junk yard today for $40 All the rest we saw on the internet were above $200. I'm hoping this one is in good working order. It sure will save a lot of money if it is.
    UPDATE 3 weeks later. The $40 TIPM was defective. It was installed and every time my mechanic started my van, it died right away. He put the old TIPM back in and changed a solenoid on the front of the transmission and so far, my shifting problems seem to have been corrected.

    Loved the video. My 2011 Caravan started acting up. Cruse quit then after sitting for a month or so I went to start it and the battery was almost dead, wouldn't crank. I had a little trickle charge device hooked up but not plugged in so I think that drained the battery. Did a quick charge and it started ok. Everything was fine the the dash stopped working and the windshield wipers started running and the controls on the column were dead also. Pulled the J20fuse to stop them. Everything started working again mysteriously and I went to the store. When I drove in the problem happened again. I believe its the TIPM and I am wondering if there are connection problem from corrosion on the TIPM connectors. Does cleaning them up help? I will try your soft reset and see if that works seeing how the problem occur after a low battery event. I would love to here your opinion.

    Video is awesome informative ! Only thing I don't understand is the "reset" procedure ?? Positive battery cable comes to battery ONLY from 2 places - Starter and Alternator ......on Both the "positive" end is insulated/separated from ground (negative) physically . How is touching their positive end to the rest of vehicle chassis (negative) ground .....would do anything ? without a battery - the whole car is "ground" (negative) or more accurate "neutral" .... positive cable of starter/alternator only goes to the internal windings of the electrical "motor" (which both of them are basically).....they don't touch the ground / negative in any way .....otherwise they wouldn't work or blow when connected to battery or spun by engine !!!?!!!?!?

    Quick question, My grand caravan no longer responds to the key being inserted, no dash light up, no reaction at all..tested battery it is 100% changed last year, mirrors can move and when I press brake the Kms on the dash board turn on. So there is power but zero reaction to the key being inserted, no ding, or response to buttons on the key. Already had issues with gas pump relay on the TIPM and was expecting new problems but am wondering if this related to the TIPM or could it be an ignition/key issue, it is also has hard to insert the key into the ignition.
    Great video as well very appreciated!

      No, you should not need a dealer to program this, provided you have bought the exact same part number as the replacement. The TIPM will take the information (including VIN) from the car during the reset process (as shown in this video). Hope that helps 👍

    Just came across your video as I was trying to look up the cause of my 2015 dodge grand caravan electrical issues, could you possibly give an ear to a frustrated person, first my gauges and instrument panel turned on and off at random, headlights are on, wiper is on but switches don't work, cant turn it off, non of my switches would work, my rear defrost light would flash every time you open and close the doors or put the key in the ignition, and a/c won't turn on till it stops blinking, then the light stopped flashing one day and my radio light started to turn on every time you opened and closed the doors and put the key in the ignition, but my a/c was able to turn on, no problem, blinkers don't work, but I do have parking light, that's always on too and my brake light works, no interior lights, no door or key buzzer, and this was going on for three months until 3 weeks ago, it went off and never came back on, and it starts and drive just fine.
    I did some research before I came across your video, and suspect the problem is my tipm, what do you think?, any input would be of great value, thank you so much.

      Wow, that is a lot of electrical problems!!! Yes, absolutely the TIPM could but a culprit in many of the issues you mentioned, and I would certainly be looking at that as a priority. It may be worth getting the part number off of your TIPM and buying a used one on eBay (or similar) with the same part number, plug it in and try. It may solve youe issues entirely, it may solve them partially, and there is also the far more unlikley chance that it won't help at all. But for the price of a used TIPM I would likley try that first. Best of luck!

      Try testing the relay for the front blower in the top of the tipm (or just swap temporarily with another identical relay next to it just to test). Then test your blower motor. And blower motor resistor. And then after that it would be worth looking atthe heater control panel. Unfortunately it's a process of elimination so you have to keep testing each part one by one until you track it down. We had the front blower not working on a car here, tested EVERYTHING. Turned out to be the TIPM in that case, replacement TIPM and job done. But, of course, that's just one of the possible things it could be. Best of luck!

    I replaced my tipm the other day on a caravan and just noticed today the rear defog button light is blinking ? It’s never done this before, is this just coincidence lol

      Did the new TIPM part number match 100% to the old one? Or is the new part number one that definitely supercedes the old one? If you take any old same type TIPM and change it over you can get strange issues happening. It could be that! They do have different part numbers for a reason :-) Otherwise it could be one of the actuators has gone faulty. It seems strange it would coincide with the TIPM changeover, so I'd be thinking TIPM most likley. But otherwise an actuator. Best of luck with it!

    What are symptoms my Grand Caravan might exhibit that would indicate it needs a new TIPM?

    • @YouWrench
      @YouWrench  2 роки тому +2

      Well unfortunately it can be the cause of many, many issues. Things like transmission problems, fuel pump, engine starting, engine stalling, electrical bugs such as windows, ac blower fan. All kinds of weird and wonderful things. You would usually run tests on the issue first to try and rule out the issue being outside of the TIPM - a process of elimination. B these TIPM's do go wrong pretty often, it's a common problem (especially as this unit controls so much within the car and so can be the cause of so many different potential problems!!) Hope that helps!

    So if the tipm isn’t one of the listed matches online can another tipm still work with a hard reset possibly ?

    • @YouWrench
      @YouWrench  Рік тому

      I would not risk it personally. You'll be better off hunting a little harder/waiting longer to find the exact match/newer version confirmed as compatible. Some sellers on eBay just sell TIPM's on the understanding you can take any part number and put it into any car that uses the same type of TIPM. This DOES NOT work. We've tried this, and had two different numbered TIPM's where the indicators would not work at all on a Grand Caravan despite the reset etc. Tracked down the same part number, worked 100%. They make different part number for a good reason, they are different. Stick to matching the exact/definitely compatible part number, you won't regret it!! Hope that helps :-)

      @@YouWrench I picked up a used tipm from a same year caravan but have not tried it or checked the part numbers yet. The problem with mine is that fuel pump relay that is soldered in the tipm. I thought it would be easier to put in a new tipm. Otherwise I would have to order one of those aftermarket bypass circuit from Vertical Visions but would take 2-3 weeks. Other option is to take my tipm apart and solder in another relay. Again a new relay may be hard to find and possibly more waiting time without a vehicle.
