I'd absolutely love a Superman game showing the wholesome friendly nature of him. Like how the Spiderman games for Sony let you interact with the people of the city a bit. Doing missions giving them a hand. I'd love to have missions helping a girl get her balloon while you're balancing fighting bad guys. Stuff that does show off that boy scout quality to Superman.
I mean honestly I wish the Spiderman games were a little more interacting with the city. Those games sometimes feel like you're a little disconnected from what the regular person on the street deals with.
To me it shows a lack of empathy. Clark has been turned into a figure for fascism and I don't understand it. He could kill everyone if he wanted but he doesn't want to. This is his home and he's trying to fit in. He can't he isn't human. Clark Kent is a story about an immigrant trying to make the world better while trying to understand himself
@@mups4016 No but the cost of doing business is. Superman is a character that doesn't have acceptable losses and the moment he does he's a symbol for fascism.
@@Nixdigo I don't really think he's a "figure for fascism" because a couple of stories had him be a fascist. It's just a different take on the character that for a long time symbolized everything American and "free". It also gives context to the main version of Clark - if he wanted to, he could easily take over the world, but he chooses to live in it, as you said. Those stories just illustrate that point
@@98loud See as stories about Superman come out the window of "normal" superman, Base superman ig, changes. Every iteration of the character to hit major screens moves Superman just a little in one way or another. I feel like recently fascistic superman is the default. Sometimes it's really obvious such as the movie adaptation of Red Sun but other times it's hidden such as the Synder movies when he's just willing to crack a few eggs to make the world a better place. To me that's the antithesis of Clark Kent. Clark Kent is just a guy who can save everyone. It's why the comic version of Red Sun worked for me. He truly thought he wasn't killing people by enslaving them. And then he learned he was and changed. I don't feel like DCCU or the animated movies were true to the character if that makes sense. "Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race" is a quote I disagree with but it seems to have become the "default" view. I think Superman is what Clark Kent thinks a hero should be. Batman is Bruce as in Bruce is the mask. But Clark Kent wears Superman. Parker has to wrestle with the balance of Spiderman and Peter, but Clark has to wrestle with being human while not being human. How does an alien stronger than any weapon we've created feel about being human? Clark sees the good and confronts the bad. Everything to colonialist aliens , greedy land lords, and even suicidal thoughts. So when he's recreating the evil I find it hard to stomach. when Clark becomes a critique on people I feel the need to watch something else. My adventures with Superman was fine, I wish it had anything to say.
For how Superman’s health could work how about two heath bars, a normal health bar and an invincibility bar. The invincibility will allow Superman to take punches pretty easily and bullets will just bounce off him, but when that’s depleted during the normal health bar bullets and punches will knock you back more and leave you less time to attack. When facing kryptonite enemies they’ll skip your invincible bar and go straight for your regular health even if your at max invincibility. I think it’s a good idea, but not sure how it would an an actual game
I think it could just be like the armor system in half life. Almost every attack drains the armor but certain attacks or just certain enemies could drain both
Dont think thats necessary. Kratos can get dmaged by arrows in his games. People just overthink supermans strength. Its really not that hard to make a superman game
Superman is actually very stealthy, his xray vision and super hiring cold be used in some missions, maybe you cold play as "Clark kent" and use your powers to investigate a "party" for exemple, like in hitman. And i think Lois and Jimmy definitely should know that Clark is superman already.
I would love a Blur suit from Smallville. Something about the classic color scheme on just a blue T-shirt and red jacket with some blue jeans just really sticks with me. Also though, if possible please for the love of all things good in this world give me a Tom Welling skin that I can put him in the classic suit with trunks
Having Superman start with the jeans and wanting a better outfit could be a fun way to have costume unlocks throughout the game. Maybe have an early mission where you save a taylor who can help you out, you have secrets and challenges that give Clark ideas for new costumes that you then have to collect crafting materials for and give to the tailor. Like he defeats a miniboss, thinks they had a cool costume, you see a sketch pop up with a new costume idea that clark wants to try. The dorkier you can make clark the better.
adding to this idea, maybe there could be like costume MAKER unlocks , since supes classic outfit is canonically made by his mom, maybe we can go from that to the tailor who makes higher quality stuff, and then from there idk maybe Batman will start giving him cool shit to wear
And there can be cool and funny Easter Eggs that reference to other superman parody characters . Like: red and white reference to Omni man, American style: homelander, Elvis inspired suit: metro man, along with tighten, etc. oh and to be actually more funny(I think) captain underpants Edit: even lesser known/ inspired ones like Kaliman
I think if a Superman game is made they should have an optional side story where it's just Clark having to go out and get coffee or something for his friends/coworkers and there's the option to take down people robbing people's purses/wallets while still holding back with his powers It'd be fun and funny Also doing all of these should totally unlock an outfit that has a Newspaper design to it
Like Oddworld, if you save over half the people you get the good ending, less than half is bad (obviously), but saving absolutely everyone gets you the "True Superman" ending.
The idea of the flight feeling like a leveled-up version of the wingsuit in SM2 is enticing. The idea of Supes pulling tricks while rounding corners at a high speed, putting in animations of him flying facing upwards, running his hand through leaves/the water under him, etc. would feel great and would do a lot for his relationship with metropolis. I agree it would be awesome for it to take place early and move forward with his early journey and unlocking the full suit and abilities, maybe even a time jump, though not always a fan of those.
That got me thinking that maybe you just have wind tunnels and stuff similar to spiderman 2 that would make Superman fly faster and maybe some roaming hazards to avoid like flocks of birds or helicopters that you wouldn't just want to barrel through. Combine that with the "leap tall buildings in a single bound" idea so that he can jump around similar to spiderman launch points. Maybe also have him sprint real fast. The fun could be in switching between these traversal options. Maybe he slides a bit when you land after flying at high speeds and you can chain that into a big jump that helps you quickly change directions. Or you're sprinting and round a corner almost drifting, transition to flying and shoot down that street real fast. Take the idea from the video of a meter that builds up over time for special traversal moves like flying fast enough to make a sonic boom. And like spiderman, the better you know the city the faster you could traverse it
That could be a fast travel system for if you are like 20 hours in. You just mark a point and then you watch Superman sonic boom pathfind there (skipping past all of the bonuses you can get for manually flying).
The Superman game can take from Spider-Man and have multiple suits too, aside from the story mode ‘classic suit.’ You could craft those inside the Fortress of Solitude. There needs to be a quick-travel feature that once you “Travel To Fortress of Solitude” it plays a cutscene-like animation wherever you are of Superman shooting off into the sky to travel. Then we load into the fortress open area. In the fortress, that’s where you see prizes, unlocked achievements and different suits, can craft suits, side stuff, etc. Also, in the fortress they can have a side mission that explores krypton and his past. Showing his father’s AI too that’s with his childhood spaceship and stuff. Maybe brainiac AI he kept after defeating him? Anyways- There needs to be a feature in the game where at any time in the open world, Superman can fly directly up into the sky and see the entire city in a bird eye view. In this moment, you can “FOCUS” and Superman closes his eyes to hear the different cries of civilians. This can be a quick-mode option to get civilian quests in the open world VS waiting for them to randomly spawn. Doing this event could also give you loot/resources to craft the different suits. The FOCUS event can make you choose between different tragedies and you have to decide which person to save. Would really showcase “you can’t save everyone.” I personally think the story should take place later into his career after he defeated brainiac and there are multiple of his rogues gallery that cause havoc. I’d make the main threat though be Parasite or Livewire or both. EDITED SIDE NOTE: I think DC Universe Online did pretty good with their flying mechanics and you could upgrade the flying later in game too!
That’s a cool idea, make the “map” like you said, just him flying up in the sky and we take control of his eyes as an icon selector and have a “pin” be his super memory memorizing EXACTLY we he wants to go, yeah there’s wayyyyyy too much to not have already gotten a good supes game 😂
@@shawnwilcowski I more so meant that you still have a big open world metropolis- but while flying around through skyscrapers and buildings, you can also just fly directly up. A lot of games have a cap at certain skyscrapers but make Superman’s cap be the stratosphere. You’d get a whole Birds Eye view of the open world map, and once up there at the edge of the map a command option pops up like let’s say “RB to “FOCUS”” then you hit the right button and start focusing to hear the different cries. Once you focus, 4-5 different tragedy missions can pop up that you have to chose from (only 1) and you get special loot from it as well as moral points for helping the city. Idk. It would honestly be very easy to make a Superman game if they got a good team together to work on it. But I guess game companies are focusing on Marvel since the success of the MCU. I’m sure once James Gunn creates the next best cinematic universe with DC, studios and developers will come crawling. Perhaps Netherrealm could even take a stab at it since they are owned by WB.
@@yopedraza Well unlike MJ. It would make sense for Lois Lane. She’s an army brat and her father is General Sam Lane, I would expect her to be carrying.
I think my ideal Superman game would be one set in the 1940s, both to give it a nice retro vibe to help it stand out from other modern Superman adaptations, and to use how Superman's powers were in his earliest versions as part of the game's progression. So when Clark starts out he only basically has super strength, some durability, and has to jump everywhere, literally leaping tall buildings in...well maybe a couple bounds to start with. And as the story goes on and Clark hones his powers, he increases in strength and durability and speed, while also unlocking new abilities, like his sensory powers of sight and hearing that become handy in various missions, and heat vision and freeze breath as both additional ranged weapons and tools, and finally capping it all off with him getting the hang of actually flying. So the player would grow with Clark, learning how to hone and use his powers and abilities as they face progressively bigger and more dangerous threats to Metropolis as the story goes on and stakes raise.
I want a Superman game that tracks your reputation. There are lots of things you can do to make yourself look better (doing side quests where you save people's cats, doing less collateral damage, making certain plot choices etc). If your reputation gets to zero, Batman shows up for a super difficult fight which you can win but its game over if you do. The only way to complete the story is to play like Superman.
In terms of visual style for games a go by the thought of: "Realism is fleeting, style is immortal." If a game achieves a certain visual style, it will always be looked upon in the same light and thus be immune to the technological advancements of visuals, as well as establishing a unique identity.
I would love for them to lean heavy on an Art Deco style to match the city! Stylized 3d is hard but I wonder if they could do a fun mix of 2d and 3d? I think it would be cool.
Lately in games, Supes is either a brainwashed drone or a megalomaniacal psycho. We need the Big Blue Boy Scout back! It can be done but needs to be done right!
I like your idea of Metropolis becoming hopeful as the game process as well as the "friend system", and I think it'd be a cool if those ideas transformed into the level system similar to Okami. In Okami, you get stronger, not by combat, but helping people and them praising you as a god. You could do something similar where the more hope you bring to the city, the stronger you get.
I always found the idea of Superman being powered by hope amazing as he was THE last son of krypton with hope from the entire planet and now the hope of earth’s citizens it just makes too much sense for it to only be his biological ability to metabolize sunlight
Idk man, I’d prefer more of a “man of steel” feeling game. I like the dark DC aesthetic and don’t want a game that looks anything like suicide squad. Although an animated series looking game would be really cool.
Superman, more than most comic book characters, deserves a good videogame, I also really like your pitch for a Superman game; I feel like if a gaming studio out there can figure out an effective gameplay mechanic that applies Superman's roster of abilities well without feeling boring to playthrough and truly makes you experience what it feels like to be Superman while having an equally good story that understands the character and everything he stands him without needing to make him evil try and modernise him, than hopefully someday we can finally see a Superman game that lives up to what fans have been dreaming to see. I'd be interested to see you pitch ideas for other characters that deserve games, like Green Lantern, Green Arrow & Black Canary, Static Shock, Aquaman, The Teen Titans, The Justice League, etc...
A combat system for superman is extremely easy based on his abilities. Go the bayonetta or devil may cry route. Or a kratos with flight. Gaming companies are trash.
@@mel-el5862 That doesn't really go with the fantasy though. When I think of Superman fights I don't think of him knocking a thug into the air, and then punching and kicking him in increasingly stylish ways before slamming them down, head first. Like, you can have a fun game for those who like Spectacle Fighters. But the fantasy of DMC is you are an edgy Bad'ss demon hunter. The fantasy of Bayonetta is you are a sexy bad'ss demon hunter. The fantasy of Kratos is you are a God that brutally rends the flesh of anyone who gets in your way.
It would be fun to see a take on an Aquaman game. Either as Arthur or Kaldur. Not a lot of underwater games (the only 2 that come to mind are Ponty and Subnautica) and a combat or magic focus isn't a *huge* part of either of those. Just surviving the navigation is.
@@haruhirogrimgar6047 Aquaman is essentially melee based with a mixture of using Trident, hand-to-hand, Hydro-kenesis and latent Atlantean magic. The question is how do incorporate underwater combat and on-land combat and make it feel seamless and fluid.
There's also Steel, who's a more Superman-specific character. Personally, I'd try to minimize the amount of JLA & greater DCU cameos as much as possible for Superman's first modern-day video game outing...
Ah man, imagine a superboy-age Clark game where he travels to the future and meets the Legion. You could easily make him a young character discovering and developing his powers, you could even get other heroes to join you in missions, like superhero pokémon. There are so many things you can do with the character...
Make it a thing where everybody plays as Superboy (young Clark), but we see every other player character as a generic 31st century superhero. Maybe even go meta with it, and give you a holowatch so nobody will bug you, since you're trying to train your powers, not get constantly mugged because you're the most famous human/historical figure on the planet (well, Not _Quite_ Human, but you get the point). Which, of course would imply that every other rookie _is_ canonically another version of Clark running around.
For the flying mechanics, there could be casual flying like just flying for fun then you can “speed fly.” There can be a fast direction change kind of thing for sharp turning. There can also be a landing mechanic where you try to not cause a lot of damage to cars, roads etc. These could be skill tree items to earn and pay skill points for.
One influence I think could fit really well with the whole making Metropolis feel alive angle would be the Yakuza/Like a Dragon games, in those games the "open world" might not be the biggest but there is so much life and activities through out them and there are many funny and more lighthearted lower stakes side stories that I think could easily fit with Supermans initiative and drive to help the everyman besides the big city threatening stuff that would be centre of the main story.
Also, you could have a lot of fun with his powers or secret identity stuff. If it was a "My Friend Superman" game then bagel run would be a killer gamemode. Cats stuck in trees is a classic (except make all the cats insanely resistant for some reason, like you have to rescue the red lantern cat). Helping old women cross the road.
There's a game called Superflight that does exactly what you said in regards to rewarding the player by flying dangerously. In Superflight, your score increases by having near misses and threading the needle. I think it would really thrilling if in a Superman game, the player would be rewarded with their flight speed being increased the longer they go without crashing into buildings.
@@troyoboyo17 I like and agree with everything you said but I also feel that Superman himself, you should be like Lego Batman where you keep 100% consistent to what makes Superman Superman but also should make Superman actually positive and a good individual. Like Batman is mature, selfish and arrogant and all that but it was all presented in a way that to me he was likeable in that Lego Batman film.
Less than 4,000 subs until Troy hits 100k! If you're reading this and aren't subscribed, please do the man a favor and help get him to that milestone. My boy deserves a silver play button!
I think a linear Superman game could take some inspiration from Superman Smashes the Klan. Start off with golden age Superman powers (strength, speed, leaping tall buildings in a single bound). As you go along and Clark taps into his Kryptonian origins you unlock powers like heat vision and flight. *edit: I should probably finish watching the video before commenting
Set it right after the comic where a chunk of Krypton, the size of Australia is blown up to prevent it from hitting Earth. There are enough Kryptonite meteors for everyone to make weapons, but also he's weakened by all the fragments in space that haven't hit yet. That's more than enough justification for limited flight, or semi-phenomenal, nearly-cosmic powers.
Troy there's this one game; More of a tech demo, and it has a city health bar like you said, but it's so much more: It's called Megaton Rainfall, and not only are you a Superman-type character, you can free-roam across the entire planet, but if you leave Earth after the first few levels, you can quite literally travel the ENTIRE UNIVERSE. Highly recommend giving it a shot
Yo this would actually be sick, like imagine a little side mission thingy with a burning building/apartment complex, where u have to go in as superman and u have 45 seconds to a minute to save the civillians living there. There are more ''situations''u could use with this concept ngl this is a good idea and works for superman
Here is an idea, give superman that 19 inches of venom, problem solved, GOTY Seriously though being able to come across each kryptonite variant would be sick
Maybe the villains of the game have some type of relation to kryptonite or Kryptonian dna like Toyman having his robots contain kryptonite DNA in them or well Metello himself or having powerful enemies like bizarro and Solomon grundy
I think a solid video game idea for Superman would be to create an experiential video game that has an aura of relaxation and peace, i'm thinking about Journey here (same artsyle even). You don't control where the story is going you as the player are just along for the ride. No health meters, nothing to create stress. Just a peaceful game where your invincible trying to help everyone you come across. Flying over vast green fields just for the sake of it, solving problems with puzzles that require you to use you powers in inventive ways, enemies attacking you only for Superman to gently talk them out of it (in-game cinematic, you cannot determine what Superman says). Its more about the experience and what it would feel like to be like to fly on a beautifuld day rather than about beating the bad guy. In short, a game about his humanity. Keep all the cool flying of course but his humanity and hope are what Superman fans would really want from him and I think this relaxing format really plays to his strengths. A Superman gamedoesn't need to make you struggle, it needs to heal you.
Great video! I feel like this has been the most real, practical, and well-thought-out discussion about a Superman game in years thank you for this. I really like the concept that as the game progresses, the player sees the positive impact of Superman and the advancement in the city new buildings coming up, statues appear, and areas that are mostly just fields are now sprawling parks or outdoor plazas. The city becomes almost like a huge trophy room, like in other games. Giving the player a chance to feel a sense of accomplishment and pride in the city mirroring how Clark feels about the city.
I like the Nemesis System idea!! For me, my biggest request would be a feature that would allow you to fly up into the stratosphere to both heal AND see side missions across the globe, which take place in smaller hub areas.
I like that idea! I had a similar idea for my Flash fan game I tried to create where the Flash is able to travel to different parts of the world for base missions with a small cutscene where he disappears in a arc of light and reappears in another level. For example you leave Central City and travel to Paris (in a flash)
@@CAG_9446 Precisely!! It’s cool to know that with the modern SSDs in home consoles you could load a whole different area on the opposite side of the globe in an instant. Really feels like a true Supes or Flash game, especially with these outlined features, is finally possible
@@The_Bug0222 It absolutely is! Spiderman 2 has an interesting section where the game cutscene features the entire map size and then the character is flung back into the level seamlessly. Truly something out of a comic book fantasy. I truly believe the same can be done for Galaxy level heroes to really capture some truly remarkable moments on a screen
They should give Superman enemies who are tougher but also not forget the enemies that aren’t really built for that. Like maybe a segment where you have to fly around the city cleaning up the Prankster’s dangerous, oversized pranks. But then when you actually get to Prankster himself, he’s knocked out with one punch.
I want a persona superman game. Part handling Clark Kent's everyday life, part insane superman antics. It would be such a fun dichotomy to have these "small" reporter things Clark has to deal with (played played completely straight) contrasted with punching supervillains into the stratosphere (also played completely straight).
The studio that made the Middle-earth games is actually working on the Wonder Woman game they announced 3 years ago and the nemesis system is supposed to be in it
I think the Electric Blue and Red Superman would be a fun concept for a game. Imagine a split screen system for dual players for those ocassions. Having a different powerset perform similar functions in a flashier but different way from the norm is what game DLC are all about already and that is what Superman Blue did in the Justice League comics. Use his new powers to compensate for his old ones. Plus imagine how people in Metropolis might react to the player, like they are afraid they'll get hurt if they touch him, or they are worried about their friend Superman, or some basic praise or cristisms, like when Spiderman is a new costume getting mixed reviews.
Gravity Rush is pretty good flight sim game if you're looking for one that captures that large open world and flying around doing hero stuff kind of vibe
You could also encourage active engagement with the flying mechanics by doing what red dead does with the horse riding, where the faster you consistently press the movement button the faster you go, and there can be a bit of drag when you try and turn so that'll increase the skill ceiling when flying, while also giving you a bit of assistance to avoid hitting buildings.
An idea i had was a combat system where youre always strong enough to make a normal mans head explode with one punch, so you do combo-type input strings that weaken the attack and you've gotta keep it strong enough to take em out but not so strong they get seriously injured.
This is basically what I've been saying for literal years now, have Intergang be main mob characters equipped with tech from Apokolips that would explain why they can give him trouble and even take multiple hits, have it be set in the early part of him being Superman with him start out with just super strength, speed durability and flight then unlock his heat vision and freezing breath during a special encounter or boss battle which I suggested that he could unlock his heat vision with a boss encounter with someone like Metallo because of the whole kryptonite heart that would make the player rely on range and using the environment to defeat him, he could unlock his freezing breath in a boss encounter against Parasite as you would have to avoid his energy absorption touch that would drain your health, stamina and cause certain abilities become locked. There's a lot of things that can be done to make a Superman game fun.
i love all of the concepts, as a massive fan of the wholesome, hopeful, sweet side of superman i really damn love the idea of being able to clean up after a fight, even if it's something as simple as holding a button and seeing a super speed animation play out for a second just having that overly caring side of him spotlighted would be a dream come true
The best flight I've seen in a video game is from Strike Vector EX. In it you pilot a plane that has 3D maneuverability. You aim the camera where you want to go, boost as wicked speeds, and stop on a dime. The game is impossible to play unfortunately, since the studio went defunct. I wonder if some air plane games would be good inspiration for Superman's flight. He gets confused for a plane, and it's an entire genre dedicated to flight.
I think the best way to go about this is to open with superman defeating a strong enemy. You go through the fight like a tutorial with your skills and abilities maxed out. It's a strong enemy but, it's easy because you're superman. Maybe not just superman but, a veteran superman. You have won the hearts and minds of Metropolis and after the fight and clean-up, you go to accept a reward from the city and reveal that you'll be doing a tell all interview with Lois Lane. Perhaps it's so far into the future that he no longer feels the need to keep a secret identity. You sit down with Lois and tell her your story. Of course, she knows most of it but, she's a good reporter and wants to do the interview properly. Clark starts his story in the beginning as a child and that's where the gameplay picks up. I think this format also allows for voice over commentary throughout the game between Lois and Clark that i think would be very cute and fun if handled correctly but, that's besides the point. So you progress from a beginners perspective where his powers aren't as refined. Maybe you can only leap tall buildings in a single bound. You get to Metropolis and maybe you can fly but not completely. More like the Fleischer cartoons where you can fly but it really just feels like gliding. He'll continue to upgrade throughout the game but, I want to focus on the flight system and progression in this game. Our perception of how superman flies is that he has complete control over space-time around him. There our other interpretations but, I feel like this is the general consensus. That doesn't have to be the case for this game. What if it just looks that way but flying actually takes a lot more than just deciding to go up up and away. Pilots look like they have complete control over their aircrafts but, there's thousands of micro movements and factors they must consider. Gravity does still apply to them. I think that's the main thing that we need to apply to superman. a sense of gravity. If you can just fly over and completely ignore a map, it ruins a lot of the fun. Without gravity to actively force you down into the city, you're not gonna have as much fun and if you do want to fly over the city, you have to actively fight against gravity which adds a bit of fun. this is where i think the game should take some concepts from flight sims. the idea of energy fighting/flying would be fun for a superman game. You lose speed while climbing, you gain speed by diving. you can trade off kinetic energy for potential energy and vice versa. you have to maintain some sort of propulsion game mechanic like on an aircraft. Like, for instance, setting your engine power to 75% maintains speed and altitude, but lowering to 20% and you start to lose speed and altitude. Once, these mechanics are mastered, you can give the perception that you have complete control of space-time, but in reality, you're actively controlling several aspects of flight and not just holding an up button. I'd also add a lock on system for flight combat that puts you into a sort of DBZ style combat but, that really only works on slow, ground enemies, imo. For flying opponents or fast opponents, I don't like the idea of two characters just going straight at each other. I want enemies to actually use the advantage of flight and not just go head on with you. I want them to fly around, dive on you, create space and so on. I want it to be closer to a dogfight in that aspect. This might be a bit too complex at face value but, I think it could be done. I'm not saying it's got to be like war thunder or something but, just enough to feel a sense of gravity.
Would be cool if we got a full Justice League game .Playing as different characters like Superman , Green Lantern , Batman , Wonder Woman , Hawkgirl , Martian Manhunter .All characters with different abilities and mechanics and all given different missions that expose their awesome personalities , deeper individual universes and iconic characters .
Some idea I have for a superman game Jimmy Olson side missions were you have to save him after he keeps getting in the most ridiculous situation all over metropolis would be fun, “Jimmy activated his superwatch what’s the problem buddy” “I had to marry a intelligent gorilla and now there ex is trying to kill me” A mr mxyzptlk boss fight were he makes you play superman 64 and fly through the dreaded rings, maybe each boss fight mxyz makes it a different game so as superman you have to complete a racing game, puzzle game, rhythm game, shooter game, A section were you play as bizarro but your controls are inverted Lois lane missions were you replay big action scenes but form her perspective trying to follow superman saving people and helping him out, also think this could work for a parastye boss fight because superman can’t use his powers Booster gold, I like booster his in metropolis just a side mission with him
Have you ever tried the Superman Returns movie tie in game? Because I felt in that game the flying was great. It's also a pretty good game... in concept... in reality they kinda did like 4 types of missions and stretched them out in several hours. And to progress the story at points you had to go look for random encounters of these 4 types of missions. But like the flying is amazing. I'd want a game with that kind of flying again PLUS another sub system that can make it cool to turn on tight corners like building blocks, which can add to that feeling of mastery. And could also be an extension of your "breach" system idea of planning a path with your superspeed for an attack. Doing something similar but with flying.
Just make the flight momentum based, like with the gliding mechanics it just makes the flight faster so if you near miss or dive or fly lower you can fly faster and faster. So if you wanna be lame you can but the flight has some skill but not a daunting amount Also come on call it the Buddy system.
That wouldn't work with Superman, he shouldn't have momentum. What he should have is adaptative speed, like the harder you press the trigger, the faster he will go. If you press full force the trigger, he should take off and speed up violently, but If you gently and progressively press the trigger, the faster he will go without violent take off.
Superman’s flying should feel like driving in Mario Kart. If you try to turn with the stick then you’ll be forced into a wide and slow turn but when you use the shoulder and trigger buttons you can quickly shift your weight and drift for a sharper turn and then when you’re behind another moving object you can a boost by getting caught in the back draft
I would kill for a Superman game, no joke if I have to kill I’ll kill, the ktjl design is amazing and really hope we see it in a future game. Also stop making Superman evil it’s really stupid and not interesting. The suicide squad honestly should have been a justice league game or a Superman game, ether of those would have been a much better final project for Kevin Conroy.
Superman strives for peace and nonviolence. If compassionate persuasion could be involved and as more dark villains becomes more prevalent more damage becomes more necessary. Working for peace could be more effective for that friendship system.
ALSO i love your videos and your "my older fans" line made me realise ive been watching you for 6 years :O, i was 11 when i started and now im going to college holy shit man
You know what's my favorite flying game? LEGO BATMAN 2 Please hear me out. Before TT games changed the mechanic in Lego Marvel Super Heroes, in open world of LB2 Superman is the first character with an ability to fly. You have to use "aim circle" (i'll call it that, but I am not sure if it's the actual name) to guide your character in the right direction. And, at least for me, it's probably the only time this mechanic felt like actual flying. Like, the boost feels like it really ADDS something to your speed (and not like, make you 10% faster with a bit of wind effect around you, like in the later games). You can't make hard cuts on turns and Superman just very smoothly turns around when you need to change your direction. Yeah, that's how I would call it. "Smooth". It's very precise and requires getting used to it. Believe me, cause I hated it, when I started playing. I like, played LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and Batman 2 at relatively similar time, and at first, ... I loved the flying in the LMSH,... but then, I just really feel in love with LB2, for some reason I just came around and I started enjoying it. I remember coming back to the game, not even for the Gold Bricks or 100%, but to just FLY around, fight bad guys and roleplay as Superman. Cause in LB2, Superman is the main highlight. And it shows. Oh, and don't forget the music. Every time you fly as Superman, his theme song starts to play, and (as annoying as it sometimes could get), it's an amazing experience.
That just sounds like a striped down version of Superman Returns for 360. You should play that game. It'll probably become your new favourite flying game. Just be sure to play it on 360, because the PS2 version is a noticeable downgrade.
It's really that easy, like. "Oh he's too strong" Just make the minions robots from Luthor or Metallos or toys from the toymaker, things like that. He doesn't have to kill goons.
I had an idea of lex secretly bringing kryptonite into metropolis and making weapons with them and selling them to criminals and that would make basic thugs able to take down superman
No one understands why the Arkham games became so successful. The reason is because arkham asylum was an INSANELY small game both literally and figuratively. It's such an isolated story and setting that allowed Rocksteady to create a small but detailed world and heavily focus on polishing the gameplay. A war world video game has the potential to be arkham asylum but for Superman. Have it be gladiatorial-like where Superman fights similarly powered enemies. Have the combat be more 1 on 1 instead of group combat to contrast with the Arkham games and no metropolis until the sequels
I love all of your ideas & i'm hoping that a Superman game is in the works soon enough. It's been long overdue. Besides, an actual FUN Superman game would be insanely lucrative so i'm kinda flabbergasted as to why WB hasn't just doubled down on making a Superman game yet.
What would be a hell of an idea would be a game that was nothing but a fresh in the big city Superman doing street level crimes and helping the marginalized and powerless. Maybe one boss that must be worked up to. Maybe a Reputation/Confidence meter affected by interacting with the public and the press, heroic deeds, minimizing destruction of property. The opposite of the GTA Star system. But then develop expansion boss levels for people to clamor to fight, only releasing the suggested Reputation level to defeat this challenge. (Reward players for being well below level suggestion as a hidden mechanic associated with the players Confidence level). In my head canon Krypton was Genesis, before New Genesis vs Apokolips, and the spacecraft baby Kal-El was in made a god able to live amongst the mortals. Basically his power is he can do whatever he BELIEVES he can do (punch time, fly faster than light, run faster than the flash) by nature but is humble and pure by nurture. He’s basically a Guardian from Maltus/Oa which was also near the Source (like a planet close to the sun at the center, Maltus was also an early civilization that also mastered most forces of the universe as nigh omnipotent beings). So Superman doesn’t need a Green Lantern Power Ring because he innately has the Power of Will, even self flight, defying gravity and physics.
I think I have an idea for a mechanic: rage boost. Let’s say you’re Superman, fighting some big guy, and a chunky of debris gets thrown into a storefront or whatever, enter a quick time event where you have to save the people inside, and if you fail, they get hurt and Superman r a wrathful state. He hits a lot harder, his eyes are burning red, that whole thing. Catch is, his stats will be amped for the current battle, but you’ll actually LOSE exp, or strength and speed, whatever over time, you’ll actually get weaker if you rely on this. Actually saving the people won’t provide any stat boost for the battle, but afterwards you get extra exp, and “friend points” or whatever. Could be neat! And just a little way of showing that you’re supposed to prioritize saving people as Superman
One of the best "Superman" games has to be Megaton Rainfall, it's basically just a first person Superman game where the health bars are also the city but you can fly around the world and to other planets in like a minute. It really makes you feel like B̶a̶t̶m̶a̶n Superman
The flying could be handled with a charge meter similar to the original Spider-Man PS2 game, where instead of charging a jump, you charge how fast and powerfully you fly as if you were jumping off of something. That way, you can fly around rather slowly like the Lego games or turn the Superman game into Sonic the Hedgehog. It's abstract, but charge-based flight mechanics could be as fun and kinetic as web-swinging, given proper development and play-testing.
I think that a good Superman story would be him going around helping people for the majority, like in the spiderman games which I haven't played but my friend who has said it's got a bunch of side quests where you help people around the city. You can have a Superman story where he's fighting but be honest, Superman's whole thing is being a boy Scout with a heart of gold, let us side questers have a game that's backbone is the side quests where he helps people, from getting cats out of trees to assisting builders when something goes wrong. They can have the game be based after a tragic event from the comics aswell, one where the city gets damaged so that you can really see him helping people. His role as a reporter can also be utilized in him helping people.
I feel like a good way of doing the flying would be to have a constant flight with a hovering mode and a travelling mode but having a much faster dash that would run off of a bar and could be chained together for faster movement with it giving a sudden burst of speed that drops off after a second with supperman losing a bit of altitude as weel. This could be used with a system that would reward players with some extra refill for weaving between buildings and a complete loss of momentum when you crash into a building, possibly having a very short animation of superman fixing the damage with super speed. With something along these lines the player hopefully wouldn't be bored holding one button the whole time and it would tie in a bit to the feeling of superman jumping around the city
I hope if they ever do it. They add the outfits from his famous outings. I think Christopher Reeves suit is pinnacle, but it would be amazing to add George Reeves, Kirk Alan, Fleisher, and New 52 and such. Maybe even add Smallville and a Central City.
Honestly it could be like a Candy Crush type mobile game and so long as he’s not evil I’d be happy with it
Thank you Green Arrows Fans 🫡

I'd absolutely love a Superman game showing the wholesome friendly nature of him. Like how the Spiderman games for Sony let you interact with the people of the city a bit. Doing missions giving them a hand. I'd love to have missions helping a girl get her balloon while you're balancing fighting bad guys. Stuff that does show off that boy scout quality to Superman.
I want the game to be like Man of Steel.
@@Alx1744if they make it right we can all have our version with the suits and gameplay. And hairstyles
I mean honestly I wish the Spiderman games were a little more interacting with the city. Those games sometimes feel like you're a little disconnected from what the regular person on the street deals with.
Ok. And how does that translate to an exciding game?
@@Alx1744
I'm sorry, but that movie completely missunderstands his character.
It really speaks to the mindset of humanity when they can't fathom how a powerful man can be kind at the same time.
@@Nixdigo not everything is fascism.
THAT'S A REALLY GOOD IDEA!
This is awesome
I think it could just be like the armor system in half life. Almost every attack drains the armor but certain attacks or just certain enemies could drain both
Good!!
Just give him some enemies with Kryptonite and Magic.
Imagine all the suits in that Superman game
The suits for me will be the 1970s comic and Superman Returns Reeves Superman and the Man of Steel costumes
Electric blue suit.
I would love a Blur suit from Smallville. Something about the classic color scheme on just a blue T-shirt and red jacket with some blue jeans just really sticks with me. Also though, if possible please for the love of all things good in this world give me a Tom Welling skin that I can put him in the classic suit with trunks
And the Return of the Superman suit with the freaking mullet. lol
The gold suit could be a 100% completion bonus.
Like: red and white reference to Omni man, American style: homelander, Elvis inspired suit: metro man, along with tighten, etc. oh and to be actually more funny(I think) captain underpants
Edit: even lesser known/ inspired ones like Kaliman
A nemesis like system about the people you save as Superman is SUPER on brand for the character.
That’s dumb we don’t need Shadow of Mordor in Superman
I'd love to see a Lantern Corps game where you can choose which Lantern Corps to play under.
I think if a Superman game is made they should have an optional side story where it's just Clark having to go out and get coffee or something for his friends/coworkers and there's the option to take down people robbing people's purses/wallets while still holding back with his powers
It'd be fun and funny
Also doing all of these should totally unlock an outfit that has a Newspaper design to it
You just described a Superman Pizza-Time minigame.
I love it. Make it "Bagel Run" as a nod to My Adventures With Superman.
That would be HYSTERICAL
Clark takes down an entire group of thugs, and when asked just sorta says "Uhhh...I took karate classes...?"
It would be cool if during the climax of the game, the more people you saved during the side quests, the more people would cheer Superman on
Like Oddworld, if you save over half the people you get the good ending, less than half is bad (obviously), but saving absolutely everyone gets you the "True Superman" ending.
Yes! The body language of Superman when he's flying is so cool
He could pull of tricks like they do in planes, barrel rolls and stuff like that
That got me thinking that maybe you just have wind tunnels and stuff similar to spiderman 2 that would make Superman fly faster and maybe some roaming hazards to avoid like flocks of birds or helicopters that you wouldn't just want to barrel through.
Anyways-
There needs to be a feature in the game where at any time in the open world, Superman can fly directly up into the sky and see the entire city in a bird eye view.
Would really showcase “you can’t save everyone.”
I personally think the story should take place later into his career after he defeated brainiac and there are multiple of his rogues gallery that cause havoc.
It is the year 2024 and Superman 64 is still the best known Superman game. Let that sink in.

4:27 “in reality, i just like black canary” relatable
Green Arrow fans and Injustice 2 Canary relatable. Am I a "type of guy"?
I want a Superman game that tracks your reputation. There are lots of things you can do to make yourself look better (doing side quests where you save people's cats, doing less collateral damage, making certain plot choices etc). If your reputation gets to zero, Batman shows up for a super difficult fight which you can win but its game over if you do. The only way to complete the story is to play like Superman.
In terms of visual style for games a go by the thought of: "Realism is fleeting, style is immortal."
If a game achieves a certain visual style, it will always be looked upon in the same light and thus be immune to the technological advancements of visuals, as well as establishing a unique identity.
The ultimate spider man game still looks ok thanks to the cell shading and it’s almost 20 years old.
Maybe a game resembling the style of the 80s?
Whatever Superman game anyone try to create: No more edgy Supes! Just a cute-nice-dorky guy who try to balance his everyday life and superhero life.

Martian manhunter can also be like a night wing support type character who interacts and helps superman
There's also Steel, who's a more Superman-specific character.

Ah man, imagine a superboy-age Clark game where he travels to the future and meets the Legion. You could easily make him a young character discovering and developing his powers, you could even get other heroes to join you in missions, like superhero pokémon. There are so many things you can do with the character...
And heck it woukd actually make the live service aspect potentially make more senses with getting other heroes
That actually sounds really cool
Just being able to fly through the clouds with the graphics we get today sounds great. I thought Superman returns game had pretty good flying.
An idea for coming across random crimes would be superman hearing calls for help with his super hearing
And you can also see a white silhouette of the person from afar

"It's me, I'm Green Arrow fans"
I have never related more to another human being in my life. Subbed
The glasses ad was pretty smooth
The studio that made the Middle-earth games is actually working on the Wonder Woman game they announced 3 years ago and the nemesis system is supposed to be in it
Haven’t heard shit on that might be canned
I want a Silver Surfer game like chorus
Would be cool if we got a full Justice League game .Playing as different characters like Superman , Green Lantern , Batman , Wonder Woman , Hawkgirl , Martian Manhunter .All characters with different abilities and mechanics and all given different missions that expose their awesome personalities , deeper individual universes and iconic characters .
i always save your videos for speacial times because they feel so positive and have a calming atmosphere
Some idea I have for a superman game
Jimmy Olson side missions were you have to save him after he keeps getting in the most ridiculous situation all over metropolis would be fun, “Jimmy activated his superwatch what’s the problem buddy” “I had to marry a intelligent gorilla and now there ex is trying to kill me”
A mr mxyzptlk boss fight were he makes you play superman 64 and fly through the dreaded rings, maybe each boss fight mxyz makes it a different game so as superman you have to complete a racing game, puzzle game, rhythm game, shooter game,
A section were you play as bizarro but your controls are inverted
Lois lane missions were you replay big action scenes but form her perspective trying to follow superman saving people and helping him out, also think this could work for a parastye boss fight because superman can’t use his powers
Booster gold, I like booster his in metropolis just a side mission with him
22:44 I feel if that was to be implemented it would have to be called the Citizen System.
A Superman game would be so fun man. IMAGINE THE BOSSES DUDE, THOSE WOULD BE SO HYPE.
You need to pitch this to WB . Best ideas I’ve heard for a Superman game. Someone hire this guy
WB is the main source of the problem they don’t like it if it’s not Batman related.
Doing something similar but with flying.
all of this is cool but they could also just make a puzzle game where you're clark kent investigating a case
Bruh who tf trynna play that over this💀
@@Joederr69 me
Just make the flight momentum based, like with the gliding mechanics it just makes the flight faster so if you near miss or dive or fly lower you can fly faster and faster. So if you wanna be lame you can but the flight has some skill but not a daunting amount
Also come on call it the Buddy system.
@@TheWarchiefZekeJaegerso he’s a plane basically.
@@creed8712 Well he isn't a bird. And most people do mistake him for a plane.
@@haruhirogrimgar6047that was way too clever 😂😂😂
Superman’s flying should feel like driving in Mario Kart. If you try to turn with the stick then you’ll be forced into a wide and slow turn but when you use the shoulder and trigger buttons you can quickly shift your weight and drift for a sharper turn and then when you’re behind another moving object you can a boost by getting caught in the back draft
I would kill for a Superman game, no joke if I have to kill I’ll kill, the ktjl design is amazing and really hope we see it in a future game. Also stop making Superman evil it’s really stupid and not interesting. The suicide squad honestly should have been a justice league game or a Superman game, ether of those would have been a much better final project for Kevin Conroy.
speaking of art designs in games, that blade game looks beautiful
I genuinely believe we need more games on obscure superheros. Batman and Spider-Man have had their fun lets get more.
Ghost rider or spawn.
LEGO BATMAN 2
Please hear me out.
Superman fighting a villain on a sky would be awesome
It's really that easy, like. "Oh he's too strong"
Just make the minions robots from Luthor or Metallos or toys from the toymaker, things like that. He doesn't have to kill goons.
Just give this man the reigns to come up with video game ideas for DC / Marvel. Maybe we'd get good superhero games again.
Grabbing onto the spinning daily planet globe to pick up speed for the first flight would be awesome
I had an idea of lex secretly bringing kryptonite into metropolis and making weapons with them and selling them to criminals and that would make basic thugs able to take down superman
7:03, it’s good to know I’m not alone in this.
Just dont make it a fighting game but a moral dilemma game.
A helping and managing game with a moral dilemma would be fun too.
Superman is also in Justice League Heroes for PS2, one of the best games ever
Bro this superman would have been perfect in his own game
Just Cause 3's wingsuit (esp with the jetpack boost) was the best "flying" I've ever experienced in a game. Lego Batman 2 blew my mind as a kid tho.
Rocksteady really fumbled at the end...
Oh it would be cool if the reason you unlocked Superman's powers throughout the game was because of his mental blocks
Good points man
a rocksteady superman would be set in daytime forever 😂
I love all of your ideas & i'm hoping that a Superman game is in the works soon enough. It's been long overdue. Besides, an actual FUN Superman game would be insanely lucrative so i'm kinda flabbergasted as to why WB hasn't just doubled down on making a Superman game yet.
bcus theyre stupid they want to push their own ideas this is modern gaming nowadays
Thank you for calling out Web of Wyrd, feels so much more novel than all of the hyper-realism most games push.
Maybe even add Smallville and a Central City.
the supervision could be the equivalent to the Arkham detective mode
14:05 Yes! Troyo referenced Sonic unleashed!
Someone want Superman game.
But I really want good horror, thriller game about Constantine.
