I can't help but notice the _"all thoughts and opinions are my own"_ disclaimer is missing here.
Technically not a review. Bet he will for the full review.
I'm at 5:35 in the video and the best thing about this whole video is little guy back there just enjoying tummy time. So awesome.
The Abalone Shell is amazing - If I could afford one that would be my choice.
Also the best test would be the Abyss Headphone Test featuring world's best triangle guy!
I was literally just watching your review for the Diana V2 LOL
The Abalone is kind of cool. If you used to play Call of Duty BO3 it reminds me of the dark matter camo
I got the abolone and it's gorgeous! Love headphones that can also be a statement piece.
You said that only few headphones can play rumbling subbass like a speaker system. Which ones?
Cool to hear that you also like Tool's song for stage check.
I was a big fan of them, would easily take them over anything from hifiman or audeze. Incredibly impressive headphones.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Diana TC or the 1266 but the new MR and DZ have really impressed me.
What pads though.
@@samulhardif8331 I believe it was with the hybrid pads
@@The_Hipster_Cow please answer questions given to you.
The Modhouse Tungsten sounds much better to me and it's half the price of the Diana DZ.
Yea, welcome to aybss. The world of the deluded
😂😂😂 At 5:28 you legitimately look like you’re trying to decide between the DZs or the baby
Tungsten when
Modhouse Tungsten review, plz
I bought Argons based largely on your endorsements
Heard these in munich. It was just as bad as their other models. I also had it on that Felix amp. It had way too much energy in the lower midrange around 1k, making vocals sound honky and unnatural like a drive-through speaker and had very sharp recession around 4k that swallows all fundamental harmonic of string instruments. It's for people who want to believe it mimics a live recording by pushing back harmonic overtones, making everything echo slightly, but that comes at the cost of vocals and instrumental timber being off by a substantial degree.
I do agree MR is horrible too, i’d take HD 6XX over both. Look at their horrible return policy aswell no confidence on their products.
@@coardcreatif the 600 is better than most things on the market regardless of cost.
Crazy thought! Just purchased the DX9 & looking to find the perfect movie headphone to pair with it. Arya Organic is top of the list so far. Also good to see your boy in the background. Awesome first impressions!
For movies, the hd800 is pretty fun. So diffuse sounding that it sounds like speakers in a room.
@tednicholson9225 Great headphone but not sufficient sub bass for me. But thanks for the recommendation.
@@deanw2847 I would just go for a he1000v3. They are now practically the same price, and the 1000 is just a much more even sounding headphone. Less peaky but still retains the soundstage.
@@deanw2847, the Arya is too bright for me. 😢
I strongly recommend just pony'ing up for the HE1000. It's so much smoother and more even than the organic and cost bearly anymore.
If their intention was to make these like the 1266, then they went too far. Despite the 1266 having that lower mid rise making vocals sound like they were recorded through a drive-through intercom, they were still somehow "balanced" enough. These arnt, they gave them even more honk without the bass rise needed to make the transition still sound even. It's very boxy and unpleasant sounding.
You described the V2 and Phi.
You’re saying the DZ isn’t much better?
@jpined14 no I think it's kinda the same. Only the MR had the upper mid presence needed the guitar and string fundamentals to sound full and lively, although still with that lower mid honk. Out of all of them, that's probably their best.
is there any chance you're gonna review the new meze alba iems?
Just wondering if you still own the SVS ultra towers. I'm in the market for a set of floorstanders that can render orchestral music decently and the SVS ultras are on my short list along with the Klipsch RP8000f II. I realize you are more of a headphone guy but any response would be appreciated. For myself, I am very satisfied with the Sennheiser 560s. Thanks for all your videos. I'm sure they are a lot of work but they are a pleasure to watch and also to learn from.
SVS > klipsch
@@corrrect Thank you!
How does the DZ's detail/resolution compare to the Diana TC?
Yeah for real as a TC owner that's what I'm most wondering about rather than MR lol
Would love to hear your thoughts on the Neumann NDH30's
Nice little cliff hanger there
very nice!
How are these comparing to the Empyrean 2??
I want the abalone just so that I can have an idiotic discussion everytime to explain that no, its not "a baloney" inlay its abalone inlay, then repeat like 5 times
Finally, someone has a review... lol
Yo Joshua I think you need to check out the Dune soundtrack for your tests.
House Atreides could be your new torture tool for equipment.
İt has everything; range and scale
5:24 Isn't it also the same with Hifiman?
This being inefficient is kind of a bummer. I am saving up to buy a really nice high-end headphone (as my sort of forever headphone) and the Diana line was what I was aiming for. But I only have a Topping Dx3pro+. I know it's not the best to run high end headphones in general, but I was hoping it could tide me over until I can then add a proper amp and dac later on.
I really wouldn't get any Diana unless you've already heard them extensively. They're quite esoteric sounding and only suit the vocal few.
@@daviddier9865 Alright, suppose I don't like the sound of them. What then becomes my end game headphone? I absolutely dislike the Meze Empyrean visually speaking (and visuals are somewhat relevant to me too). My use case is primarily content consumption and listening to music with a fair bit of gaming in there too. Let's presume budget to be no matter at the moment. All the recommendations for those use cases I have seen are well...too cheap. I feel like those can't possibly be the endgame. I may be wrong though.
@@Alyx0.2 I was in your position. if you listen to your headphones for many hours, or just wear them at your computer without listening to anything like I do, and also somewhat care about looks and want high end sound, the HD 800S is endgame. high end headphones are either not comfortable enough to use for a long period of time like audezes, look weird like the empyrean or bulky like ZMFs, or have really weird tunings like the headphone in this video, or are inefficient like susvaras or need energisers if its an electrostat.
if you just want a "normal" headphone in looks and comfort that is high end, get the hd 800s and eq the bass up a bit. it's not the best sound ever, but it's as close as you're gonna get without wearing an esoteric bulky looking art piece on your head.
Please don't listen to the guy saying that the "hd800" is end game. The 1khz dip coupled with the 6k spike makes precession instruments sound very thin and the entire FR is tiled upwards making vocals sound little hollow. For anything precession or string lead like rock its unusable. It's not neutral or natural and very far from a all-rounder by any definition.
We develop compulsive disorders very quickly. Esoteric tunings exist because there is a very particular parts of such a presentation that the brain laches onto, then carries you away with it. No matter how awful something is, your brain will learn to cope with it. That's what happened to hd800 owners. Their mind get obsessed with the diffuse, grand, speaker like presentation, and completely ignored the poor timber of certain instrumentation and vocal registers. It one of those experiences where you know your listening to through the headphone instead of just the music itself.
FR. . . wonky? not wonky?
Anyone here have any thought about the Chord Hugo TT2 DAC, or a site that I can get an honest opinion on them?
I wish they have a version without any inlays. The squiggly edges are just not my taste.
The wheels of your bicycle should be the other way around for best use.
Imagine this to be $300
Add a zero to that number. ☝️
Looks like it. Wait, even that's generous...
Why don’t you just use a mic and separate iems for gaming instead on something like the Maxwell?
Test with song from Hi-Fi Set 🇯🇵
I’m reading his face. Reading faces works.😮
This brand is so polorizing with the hifi community. I don't get all the revisions and naming schemes. I agree their should be less marketing and more what the sou d of each you should be getting. And than you toss all these different pads. We're audiophiles and will go to great lengths to get good sound but if you can't with the stock pads I'm out and you will loose people . All that said I fully expect another stellar review of abyss headphones from Josh.
I mean they're controversial because they lie about things like their measurements.
@enjoshi-godrez8775 Joe did a series of videos about headphone measurements, ua-cam.com/play/PLo0Fz7gAV2dktzhDVuJHPcort23zAlV-E.html&si=wcufAI_c-Lh8-Khh

can't resist to say... dz nuts
💀
Try harder next time. 🙄
You just shortened my life 😑 xx
I tried Diana MR and they were horrible. Pad swapped, different amps, no help. I don’t think these will improve.
Josh does such a great job with the quality of the visuals on these videos but he’s literally saying nothing. Just nonsense upon nonsense, word salad, audiophile crap.
We need Josh’s video editing with someone akin to Vincent from HDTVTest but for audio. That would be epic.
Are you confused? You're asking for the measurements, right?
@@enjoshi-godrez8775 I’m not confused at all. I know technical specs of electronics very well. I’m giving praise to Josh on his video production and editing while also critiquing is audiophile mumbo-jumbo.
His production with accurate, data driven info would be amazing.
@@Seconds84 Yes, you are certainly confused. I'm not talking about the specs. I'm talking about the FR graph done using a spectrometer.
@@Seconds84 do you even know what an amplitude graph is? Lmao
@@enjoshi-godrez8775 please stop talking. You’re just responding just to respond. You’re saying nothing pertaining to my criticism of the video. I know how FR graphs are taken and how they’re read, not sure if you do though.
But all the real music artists are using beats these audiophiles are just scams imo
Troll grin xx
Very hard purchase decision when Abyss “revise” their Diana lineup every year. If purchased brand new expect at least a $2000 drop on the secondary market when you try to sell them and upgrade to their newest model. I’ve been burned with a V2 I purchased and I’ll probably never buy another Abyss headphone again. Great review otherwise. 😊
What flagship headphones doesn't fo that, though? All flagship LCDs are about half their value on the used market. If you had a HE1000se new, you're looking to get 1/3 of that. now.
They all do that.
@@tednicholson9225 Modhouse Tungsten has been selling at MSRP since launch. Caldera is only $400-500 off retail.
Yes but the that 1/3 less than any of these, and half as much as the currect flagships. For 2k, it's fall it's about on point.
These were genuinely the worst headphones i heard at Munich High End. No, not "well expos arnt the best place to evaluate a headphone". So much evidence beyond a reasonable doubt that even my GF, who had next to no experience in audio, walked away from them in 30 seconds. Even she knew how bad they were.
Presumably the 47 likes are all from people who've heard them as well and agree.
I'm sure that's the case 😂
Why was it bad?
@Daryl42 james kegen articulated it very well, look at his comment. They were the velour pads, though. That down tilt them even more. I have no idea about the leather pads.
@@Daryl42 the transition from the lower to upper midrange is really bad. It means the fundamental harmonics of percussion intruments are boosted, but their overtones are blunted. It makes it sound very boxy.
Sorry to hear your listening experience was poor at High Emd Munich. Curious as to your opinion as to what percentage of the sound would you attribute to the electronics? And what headphones you own and like. Thanks!
It is nice to be first :)
4 grand 😂
Isn't it 6?

Josh „abbys fanboy „review so many abbys cans, why ? abbys is so overpriced.
I was meh 😑 when I heard the OG at Toronto last year ….these look to be more of the same.
How nice, they seem like headphones a toddler could put together in arts and craft. They're cheap, aren't they?

You reposting your comment doesn't make what they said less true.
I will be there on every post I see of you.
@@Sturgon, you seem to be obsessed with me, Madam.
I am FLATTERED! 😊
Your existence is kinda sad. You get no attention from anyone but people who know how much of a a**hole you are, then youtube deletes rebuttals to those remarks anyway.
No one like you, including youtube.
Its impossible that you are honest about your impression about these headphones… I have not heard anyone who have heard them say anything nice about them…
My friend was at the High end show at München, he said that they were awful. Everyone he talk to said the same…
If you really are honest on your opinions about them, serious questions needs to be asked…
I just can't get over the look. Everything is subjective but for me that headphone doesn't look pleasing to me ...none of those Diana's look pleasing to me nor does it's look even remotely justify the look vs price. And as far as sound ...there are tones of great sounding headphones. Seen way better built headphones and better materials especially looking at the cost. But hey good on them for the 10 year warranty, at least there is that. Meze for example makes way better looking headphones at way better prices and better materials. Diana's Headphones always look like a unfinished experiment.
You heard the specifically. Not one of the other Diana's?
Not as ugly as the 1266. 😂
@@ReverendDr.Thomas you really deleted your comment after insulting somebody. Lmao
@@liamhenderson3958, that is rather PRESUMPTUOUS of you, wouldn’t you agree, Slave?
Presumption is evil, because when one is PRESUMPTUOUS, one makes a judgement about a matter, despite having insufficient facts to support one’s position.
I dunno man, I like the diana form factor. I think it looks slick. Low profile slab billet style kinda thing going on. Almost military. I'd love a set xx
