My dad found a pc thrown out with an i7 2600, asus board not sure which one, Gskill 2x4 8GB ram and a decent aftermarket cpu cooler and a be quiet 400W bronze PSU and it is fully functionall. All it needs is 2 more stix of ram to make it 16 and something like an rx570/580 and there's a beast 1080p gaming pc!

I live in a unit here in Sydney NSW. It's quite a large complex and we have council cleanups twice a year. As a result there is often HUGE piles of rubbish dumped out the front. It honestly amazes me what people throw out. I snagged a working first gen i7 pc a few years ago. Also snagged some gt 710s and even a 750ti once. Unfortunately, it's getting rarer to find old pcs on the roadside because the bloody council has banned putting computers out on the cleanup anymore. You are now supposed to take them to a special 'ewaste' collection point. Council rates increase yet the services decrease :/ The last cleanup we had only 1 person broke the rule and put out a pc this time. But it was some old pentium 4 garbage with no ram or HDD.

It always irks me when some rich kid throws away a perfectly good gaming rig just because one little thing doesn't work right or they messed with it, ruined it and asked their parents for a new one. I used to live near a big garbage dump and they had a section specifically for PCs and PC parts. I would pull so much working stuff out of that pile it wasn't even funny. One example was a rig that was perfectly fine except it had a dead video card and mismatched RAM (a 533 stick and a 667 stick). I bought a budget video card (Radeon HD 7750) and some Corsair RAM and got the thing up and running for about $250 USD. Ran well for years.

I used to deliver newspapers. i had a tower that was about 4 cases wide all the way to the ceiling in my computer / gaming room lol. Most were way older, AGP days and stuff, but so many of them were surprisingly cool (MSI Dragon motherboard comes to mind; GTX 260 BFG edition) but I found stuff that was newer as well, DDR3 era stuff. One exciting find I got my hands on was an i7 870, that I overclocked to 3-point-something GHz. It was very hot but it was a beast for how old it was relatively and that was a couple years ago.

15:50 these things get away because they're selling the product for a decent, reasonable price, if one ignores the marketing. i've seen plenty products selling online with similar tactics even from reputable or large brands/stores, pretty much allowed. I also think these PCs are mostly selling for work from home setups than gaming.

Interesting comments on GPU shortage. Up here in Canada (a bit off the beaten track, Aussie POV-wise, I realize), I paid $150 CDN for a GeForce GT 1030 2GB DDR5 and it was a real "deal" (for a card that realistically should have been about $70). When you throw in GST tax, shipping, etc., these cards end up being REALLY expensive... anything that will run modern games at a decent frame rate and resolution is unaffordable.
Love the channel, mate! Keep up the good work!

    Once bought a "used PC-case" for equivalent of 10 USD - had a 2600 on a mobo, and 8 gigs of RAM and a 400 W PSU....
Also, the "X58-2gb-mesh" is fun to try and OC - once got 6 random sticks to 2133 mhz :D on an ASUS board...

Nice BRIAN does it again. THX dude. The famous first gens of intel are the best like i7-2600, 2700 k and non k versions and the legendary i7-3700k I still use for gaming and it works great. bought it of aliexpress for cheap price like 80€ (90$) back then and it still works great on MSI MOBO top quality and stability motherboard H61M-P20 (G3) Couldn't wish for more. When i built it never expected such performance paird with wd red 1tb and SSD for Win 10 pro. Plust got the 1660 card for about 200€ 1year ago and installed it in. Works MAGICLY!!! (Also the RAM I bought of aliexpress for about 50€ 16GB DDR3 with 1600MHz)

I have done this before. Got a PC that was cleaned out from a house yard. All rusted and everything. I only managed to get the ram and the CPU out but the CPU was a i7 4770 so it was a good deal in the end.

I am still using an x58 Republic gamer's edition MB, with an I7-980X CPU, 24gig of Ram, 2xHD7970 GPU's, 1200Watt Silverstone Strider PSU,
I do not play any newer games than BF4 n I still most love playing COD4 modern warfare, so it should last me many more years to come I hope.

Finding discarded desktops in the wilderness sure could be useful in some way. If the parts from the inside are no good, just get rid of them and replace them with fresh, new, up-to-date parts. Only the desktop case matters to keep, not the old parts from its inside.

I hope the X58 build is still somewhere doing some work. As a secondary machine for when friends come over or as a homeserver or HTPC.

Good find. I used to find some sort of tech in apartments dumpster once maybe every month. I live next to big semiconductor factory, they employ lots of people from all over, India and china. Large disposable incomes that get spent on tech. Once they are here long enough to buy a house or their VISA's are up, they move and throw everything away. Lots of good stuff, like new. Unfortunately the homeless population has exploded during the pandemic together with our lax'd drug laws, it has brought in a lot of new scavengers. I find nothing now or will at times get interrupted by a tweaker looking for anything he can pawn.

For the past couple weeks Ive been buying HP z240 workstations for $30 each and they have an i7 6700 and no ram/storage so I've spent basically $30-40 on ram for each one and I got 2 1070's and a rx 5808gb for $190 for all 3 and then I got a 1070ti and a 1660super for $100 each. So far I've sold 2 computers for $400 each with about $150 in them. its so fun!
