26:00 - That's happend to me a number of times with SGIs I've sold down the years, I end up buying them back later, or winning them on auction, often from someone different if they've gone through several owners. It's funny when I boot them up and realise the OS install was done by me long ago (by which I mean possibly as much as 15 or 20 years back), or some of the accessories I recognise as being ones I put together, or there's an ID sticker I put on the back or the base. It's also happened once with a PC build I did for a family long ago, an AM2 system (6000+ with an 8800 GT and 120GB SSD, solid XP system at the time), I bought it back from them many years later when they decided to switch to iPads. Pity about the P55s, though tbh the LX models from ASUS were always a bit iffy. Even if they'd had i7s and were working, I wouldn't oc them on an LX. Good find with that Z97 though.
In regards to seeing your own builds come back to you through a deal: I sign all my builds with either a black or pink glitter sticker that is a skull and bones. Great video, loved to see the Alf plush that show was amazing and I had so much fun playing the game on the C64 growing up. Also big thanks to your sponsor I just built a new PC and it saved me a huge chunk of $ on Win10.
The old retro PC is a later intel Pentium socket 478 that was released just before 775 dual core & core 2 quad days. It has onboard ATI graphics and later AGP x4 and PCI slots, no ISA slots which is needed for best option DOS SFX/Music in games. If it turns out the motherboard has an older chipset such as the intel ICH5 or less it can be used with PCI DOS compatible addon sound cards such as SB live/Audigy. Basically the Motherboard chipset and AGP is what to be careful on with Pentium 4 as later chipsets loose DOS sound card support and some have no AGP that limits graphic options for later games such as half-life, unreal's, quake 2 etc. A few Addon cards with value to look for in old computers: Graphics( 3dfx Voodoo, ATI Radeon 9800/9600 Pro/XT) Sound(Creative Awe32/64, Aureal Vortex, SBLIVE/Audigy, Trident 4DWave). Nice video thanks
The AGP (accelerated graphics port) was used for the graphics cards around 2002 to 2008 for Intel specific mother boards. The Pentium 2 and 3 CPU's plugged in to the motherboards vertically.
Sometimes the memory looses some contact with the slot from sitting. I would clean them with alcohol and test them. Some of the sticks may actually be fine, just dusty. Cheers

5:40 My first ever build was in that Raidmax Cobra case, the black and yellow to the top right, back in 2004. The one I had was Silver with red though. Man that brings back the memories.
Since the guy said it the cases were from a PC shop close-down. Maybe the PC were from the same shop. Like jobs that owners never paid for, or the shop could not get them going, and the owners left them. People treat PC repair shops like that. I used to flip PC and laptop parts to a shop that did repairs, in our town centre. He was a one man operation, with a shop the size you would imagine. However the entire of his shop front was two/three stacks high of PCs left by csutomers. You had to walk in a clear channel between PCs from the door to the desk. Then walk a single clear channel along the front of the desk.
On the boards that have dual bios's, I'd give bios shorting a crack in the event the backup bios won't initiate as a last resort (shorting the 4th & 7th pin on a bios chip, can do with a paperclip or tweezers). I've brought back a few boards I'd otherwise have tossed.
I wouldn't take a safe bet on the HSF being an indication on P55/H55 mainboards as to low grade CPUs. I've got a i7 860 + Gigabyte P55A-UD3 combo shipped with that same cooler.
0:48 these fm2(+) motherboards are actually decent. I had one at 8:10. Sure, top CPUs don't perform much better than socket 775 CPUs but they eat any DDR3 memory (especially fm2+) and don't prone to fail nowdays so they'll be worth it for at least an office or even low-end CS:GO gaming PCs especially during such clean-out to make the whole deal slightly better.
I can relate to this kind of scenario of scavenging old but good cpu as we have small computer shop normally for esport gaming and surfing the Internet. What i like about tech city is how he value old stuff unlike other PC youtuber that focus only on building new and shiny PC. This is the best PC tech channel for me.
My DDR3 motherboard was constantly turning off and on. When in doubt, it's probably a ram issue. I swapped the places of the 2 sticks of ram and it worked again. I think I was installing an SSD and messing with the OS though.
You should run those faulty boards they're the hypersonic cleaner. I would assume they could have humidity damage from sitting in a shed for a couple of years.
For testing the P55 1156 mainboards don't forget to use Dual Rank (2Rx8) 4GB Dimms or to be safe 2GB Dimms. The IMC is clunky on those Lynnfields and won't work with 1Rx8 4GB Dimms.
After all the time I watch your videos, I bought 3 years ago, 60 PC's for 600 Euro. There was a lot of crap, but 15 PC's has working Gen 2 and 3 Mainboards. Also I found 8 I7 2600 and 3770. In the end the lot made good money.
Wow. I might be younger than you, but I know tedd-no... ALF. It was a tv-show, not the greatest, but one of memorable one. (Reading comments brought the name back...) 🙂
I hope you grabbed that AGP system? I love building retro PC's. The challenge of getting windows 98 running is fun. There is a semi decent market for older PC's here in the UK but you need to have parts that have good compatibility with windows 98. Would love to see a video of you messing around with it
He definitely need to do some retro stuff. Like PCs from 90s and early 2000s. Especially with hi-end AGP cards and gaming parts. There is growing market for PC parts from that era and doing retro dream builds is really fun. For example, when you try to build ultimate PC from your hi-school/collage days you couldn't afford then.
That rig with an Ati logo in the rig must be from the very early 2000's, since AMD bought Ati in 2006. So those computers were in storage there for quite a bit!
I believe that's a radeon xpress 9100 or xpress 1200. And yes, more likely much more earlier than 2006 as it has AGP. Haven't got a chance to experience this chipset as either nforce, via, or intel was the popular choice back then.
Suggest you test MB's with PS/2 keyboard as USB much later in boot process and legacy USB (needed for USB KB and mouse) may not even be enabled. If you can find one in Aus, then try to get a PCI/PCIe LCD diagnostic card as will give you post codes, allows you to decide if it's worth putting more time into MB/System. Still have my PCI LCD diag card very useful for slightly older systems with PCI slot.

Then walk a single clear channel along the front of the desk.
great vid, good info!! time to step up your game?! how about capacitor, resistor, mobo fixing?? like rossman??
On the boards that have dual bios's, I'd give bios shorting a crack in the event the backup bios won't initiate as a last resort (shorting the 4th & 7th pin on a bios chip, can do with a paperclip or tweezers). I've brought back a few boards I'd otherwise have tossed.
I wouldn't take a safe bet on the HSF being an indication on P55/H55 mainboards as to low grade CPUs. I've got a i7 860 + Gigabyte P55A-UD3 combo shipped with that same cooler.
2:31 that's not a teddy bear, that's ALF! Alien Life Form!!
This kind of content is more like myself and a huge peaceful part of my day! keep it up! Love watching someone else in the same hobby having fun!
6:06 I have this board. It won't post now. Long ago, it could just barely overclock a i5-3570k; no more than 300 Mhz; as it had no V-core control.
thats ALF he was a legend years ago..
Does nobody else know who ALF was? That was my 80s childhood. Wow! One of my FAV 80s TV Series.
Old DDR1 PC was Intel socket 478 with Pentium 4 cpu probably.
This would be paradise for me even if most of the computers would not work. I always love diagnosing and fixing older hardware.
Not when you do it to make money 😪
I can relate to this kind of scenario of scavenging old but good cpu as we have small computer shop normally for esport gaming and surfing the Internet. What i like about tech city is how he value old stuff unlike other PC youtuber that focus only on building new and shiny PC. This is the best PC tech channel for me.
My DDR3 motherboard was constantly turning off and on. When in doubt, it's probably a ram issue. I swapped the places of the 2 sticks of ram and it worked again. I think I was installing an SSD and messing with the OS though.
It's ALF damnit..
You should run those faulty boards they're the hypersonic cleaner. I would assume they could have humidity damage from sitting in a shed for a couple of years.
"a teddy bear" .. you sure know how to trigger people 😆
I like those new cases. Sorry you didn't get everything you hoped to find - still a very watchable video.
Oh,I'm up for the older, black ones!!!!
20:34 wow an old chieftec dragon case 👌🏻shuld do an awesome re build on that one
Now this is my kind of video. Gotta love them steals and deals.
Summer and a treasure trove of used PC does it get any sweeter. It's freezing cold over hear right now -30c
this was awesome man , thanks for this hope we get to see more things like this in the future
It is not WEIRD that you had problems in the past. Just look how you handle the Wireless Cards wow. Good luck buyers!
Hey Brian! Time for some Tech Yes Lovin' on those broken parts. We've seen it working before! Please try it!
My friend that is an official ALF not a teddy bear. You blew it!
Darn dude, this looks amazing! I'm downloading this video to watch as soon as I can.
Hey bro lucky you included me otherwise ALF and would have to pay you a visit haha nice to have met you on that day.
Z77s auto bios recovery with dual bios :) A cheap xeon E1270 from aliexpress is my favourite i7..
You could have easily just not made this video. I love that you take us with you through both the A+ raids and C- runs. Good times Yes Man! :)
Would love some of them retro cases for personal nostalgia builds lmao epic score totally love some of them old AGP upwards builds
19:05 I spy a loose screw on the PCB that might be touching a few components. (maybe this was checked off screen?!)
Bryan all stealthy with the ram and card haul....Nice nice nice especially for what you paid. What a great haul.
That Alf toy is worth more than most of that hardware lol! Cats beware!
Hey,Bryan. I'd be willing to take those 4 motherboard's off your hand plus shipping to SA. Keep up the awesome work!
You lucky Bastard Bryan i have lot like that all mine work but lots of shell ones in my shed
5:38 I spy 2x antec Sonata cases, I had two of those back in the day! We're talking Athlon x2 day lol
2:41 😂 I can't believe you passed on Alf!
Teddy bear? TEDDY BEAR? Bryan, dude, you're almost my age. You should know who Alf is!
Loved the "devo" slang, definitely using that in my Aussie impersonation next time
i guess you don't recognise ALF, always interesting videos man! 👍
did u try using an eraser to clean the contacts on the "Faulty" ram sticks?
Interesting stuff Brian! Pretty sure those new cases are worth about $100 each so $200 for everything else seems like a pretty good deal.
Just spied a wonderful poster on the wall!
