You want my NaNo story. Well, it goes a little something like this :P
I was so jealous of your 16K day and was like "How can anyone do that it's like physically impossible?!"... well... I got 14,000 words behind and I was on the verge of giving up and just accepting the fact that I just wasn't going to win. But then I remembered that you were able to get 16K in one day so I decided to give it a shot. So on the very last day of NaNo I had a 15K day. It was probably the most epic ending ever lol
Thanks for giving me the courage to do it! I don't think I could have won NaNo without you!

It was my first year participating in NaNoWriMo, all thanks to you. And it was honestly the best month of my life. I ended up winning on the 26th, which was very exciting! I had a total of 51,053 words. Thanks for hosting all those sprints. They were super helpful for getting me over that 50k mark!

This was my second year doing NaNoWriMo and my first time winning! I won on Saturday and that was after writing 13,000 words in just my two last days. Most of my writing happened in large chunks like that because I'm a college student and I work part-time so the weekends are the only time when I could really focus on my writing, but I got it done and I couldn't have done it without your encouragement, Kat! Thank you so much for your videos this month. I know that they didn't go as you wanted them to but they were still so helpful, the liveshows included :)

I can't wait to read your first book! I did NaNoWriMo for the first time this year (and I won woohoo) I went through phases of hating and loving my story but I really do love how it turned out, I'm taking a few weeks to breathe and think and then revising it.
Thanks for 1. Introducing me to NaNoWriMo and 2. being so damn inspiring.

I heard about NaNoWriMo for the first time this summer, soon after I had gotten the idea for what wound up being by 2014 novel. Quickly discovered NaNoWriMo's presence on UA-cam along with many booktubers for the first time including you.
These were my favorite days: (This is probably going to be a wall of text. Sorry.)
November 1: Started writing, concerned if I could make the story 50K words since the longest finished story I had written up to that point was 3800 words. My first chapter wound up being 4000 words. That was the first time I got the feeling I could actually win this thing.
November 25: The 10K Tuesday liveshow: That was the first liveshow I caught while it was still going and YOU ANSWERED MY QUESTION! I just happened to be really curious for some reason if you would have to change anything when you publish Storyteller. Thank you so much for answering it, that made my day!
November 26: I got my t-shirt and coffee cup!
November 28: I hit 50K that night while I was on vacation.
November 29: I wrote THE END after writing 11,000 MORE WORDS. I knew that once NaNoWriMo ended I would have no incentive to finish my story and I really, really wanted to finish this first draft after writing so much. But HOLY CRAP that was a productive day.
November 30: Validated at 62K words. Probably teared up at the Winner's video.
I'm reading through my novel and really liking it! I'm adding little pieces right now, and I already have plans for taking the story apart and putting it back together in revision. I can't wait to download Scrivener with the winner's discount. I know this is the cheesiest part but getting to know I was doing this with people like you and Kristina just made this whole first NaNoWriMo really, really special. So thank you. And good luck with the novel you wind up revising first!
P.S. Just thought I should mention you went out on such a high note with your daily vlogs that it's kind of hard to fault you for not doing them the rest of the month. And telling by the 16K Saturday, that was a good thing!

This was my first time participating in NaNoWriMo, and it was great! I started off the month with an amazing writing day of 6500ish words. Then throughout the month I was consistently ahead. :-) Then on November 25th aka 10K Tuesday, I got 6400 words and won NaNoWriMo during one of your sprints! And then you congratulated me on a live show! Ahh! I'm also working on character development right now, working out the details of my four leads.
Thank you so much Kat! Without your encouragement and excitement, I probably wouldn't have participated in NaNoWriMo, which would've been a shame.

This was my 2nd time doing NaNoWriMo in November, 5th time if including Camp NaNo. I didn't win, and I didn't expect to win. I still have no idea why I thought it was a good idea to do NaNoWriMo in College since it's been kicking my ass with so many assignments. I was able to write 11k of words that I'm proud of, though. I wrote in between classes and whenever I had time between homework, but I could barely write the last half of November because of preparation for Finals, essays, projects, and stress. Still, I'm glad I was able to write those 11k words that I wouldn't have written before. Thanks for being awesome, Kat!:)

When you posted your liveshow where you won NaNoWriMO, I was 15,000 behind, but your video inspired me and I wrote 10,000 words that day (it was before 10k Tuesday but you just inspired me so much that I just had to)
I won NaNoWriMo on the 27th and I know I wouldn't have been able to do it if t wasn't for you. THANK YOU KAT!

This is super random but I've been feeling the writing high this morning so naturally I've been watching your videos, and I was wondering how this story is going! You mentioned having plans for revisions and character development and all that and I was curious as to how that all eventually went :)

I'm so happy for you Kat :D This was my first time doing NaNoWriMo, and in the past the most I had written was a little over 9k. Once NaNo started, I got really excited and some how reached 50k on day 19! I kept writing and finished the month with almost 68000 words! However, my story has not been completed yet. I am so happy with my writing performance this month and I am so excited that you are editing The Study Group!

    How My NaNo went:
    - Got ahead by 2k words
    - Got behind by 2k words
    - Got a further 5k behind
    - Last month of high school got even more hectic
    - Got 40k behind
    - Didn't finish

This was my first NaNoWriMo, and I have to say, I loved it! I won on Thanksgiving which was supposed to be my break day, but instead I wrote two days worth of words! This is the first time I have really written anything and the first part is all kinda awful, so I don't feel awfully motivated to revise it, but I really want to use the sponsor deals and get a printed copy, and I really want my family to read it! Thanks for keeping me motivated, I can't wait to see more videos from you in the future!

This was my first year doing NaNoWriMo and I wasn't sure what to suspect. I didn't know how to go about it and thought it was going to be something I did on my own. But I really liked your videos and tweets relating to it because it felt more like an experience than just a challenge. I even found some people at my school doing it. And even though I didn't win the 50,000 word prize I was happy with the words I wrote because I actually wrote them. I wrote more in one month on my story than the one I was working on over the summer, and thats pretty cool if you ask me. I am super stoked to buckle down next year and win. Congratulations again :) !

I'm attempting DeNoWriMo instead (De = December) because I've been pretty busy with school and went on holiday for part of November so I just wasn't in a very good 'I can do this!' mood like I was last year when I won for the first time. But once I get coursework sorted out this week I'm devoting the entire month to writing :)
Also, I really liked your idea for Storyteller so I'm sad you're not revising it (I don't particularly read contemporaries) but if you are this excited about The Study Group then you should definitely go for it because if you're having fun writing it then think about how much fun people will have reading it! :) If it gets published then I'll probably be lenient on my no contemporary rule :D

I had given up all hope the night of November 29th. It was over for me. At 38K words, there was no way I could catch up on the last day...
BUT THEN I stayed awake until 2:40 am and wrote 3,400 words! After I got back from Church later that day, I invested the rest of my time to writing.
ON DAY 30 I WROTE 11,139 words!!!!! Winning at 11:15 pm was one of the best moments of my life!

  • @ReaderRayna

I won NaNo on day 29 and was so so so proud of myself when I did because I hadn't written for almost five days at one point and had major catching up to do. But other than that, I'm not quite finished my novel, and I also think I'm going to completely rewrite it in a different pov and tense from a different character because I connected with her much more than my main guy. So those are my plans for 2015.

I'm so happy for you! I'm glad you're really enjoying this story and being happy about writing. I can't wait to see how everything comes along, whether you decide to query it for publication or not. I don't know what to say. I feel like I'm not saying everything I want to but the point is: I'm so, so happy for you.
As for my NaNoWriMo experience, I unfortunately lost. I only got to about 9,021 words or something like that. School and drama club both got in the way and so I don't really get home until 7pm and by then I'm exhausted. However, I'm happy that I did it. It was not only a learning experience that showed me what to expect for next year's NaNoWriMo (which I hope to participate in), but it was just really nice to return to writing. My confidence shattered in eighth grade and I stopped writing because I didn't think I was good enough. Now I'm a junior in High School and even though I didn't complete NaNoWriMo, I wrote way more than I have in the past few years and it was so nice to finally return to doing something that I love.

This was my first time doing NaNo, and my word count fell way behind in the end. In the last three days U ended up writing over fifteen thousand words, and just finishing my story, and NaNoWriMo! I'm happy with my story, but it definitely needs to be revised!
I'll be taking a break this month, and revising my novel in January and Febuary, because of Christmas and school. You really motivated me to finish NaNo, though, with your vlogs, and when i was halfway through, I wasn't giving up there!

I also won on the Sunday! One of the sprints that you hosted pushed me over the 50k mark! I had a lot of fun with NaNoWriMo this year, even if it was during the same month that I had to get all of my essays done for school (picture about 4 essays that each had to be at least 8 pages). I managed to get everything done though, so I'm really proud of myself. Now I just have to worry about my two final exams...

16k in one day is pretty insane - my highest day word count is just under 13k. I didn't have a specific word count total for the month, just that I wanted to finish two novels (which I did), and to make 50k by the end of the first week. I actually surpassed those goals, finishing both books by the 21st and making 70k by the end of the first week. Total word count for the month just passing 190k, with a bunch of short stories written after I finished the second book. It helps when you can't shut off your creative mind and you've been planning both books for more than a year.
Congrats on winning - but really, even for those who didn't win it's still worth congratulating them, because they wrote something.

I won about halfway through but kept writing on other projects until the end of the month. Now that my main story has sat on my shelf (literally) for a couple weeks I can crack it open. I found a red pen so its time to cross everything out!

I won on the 16th this year. That was pretty cool. First time I've ever won that early with a first draft. But then I just kept going. Ended up with just over 100K (about 47K more than I'd ever written in a month). I think that getting Scrivener, participating in word sprints, connecting up with my local region, going to my first ever write-in, and having two 10K days helped a lot, as did writing at least 1,667 every day. Ended up drafting a novel and a half. Tonight I'm getting back to working on the third book in my series. Took a break last night to write a blog post reflecting on all of the craziness that happened this year. :D

This was my first time doing NaNoWriMo and going into it I really DID NOT expect to win. It was a last minute decision, so I hadn't done ANY outlining before the last day of October. Throughout the month I had a lot of thoughts along the lines of; "Oh man, I really should have done this and this." Which, during the month, progressively changed into; "Next year, I'm going to do this and this." Writing under pressure is do-able but world-building under pressure and plot-weaving under pressure proved REALLY REALLY HARD for me.
I ended up winning on the last day, but my novel is far from finished so I don't really feel achieved? Which is kind of disappointing. I don't know if I'm ever going to finish this novel because I never really quite fell in love with it during NaNoWriMo, which I think is because of the lack of outlining I didn't get to spend enough time with it. I usually fall in love with my characters before I even start writing.
BUT! I am glad I paticipated because I learned a LOT about writing. I'm always the kind of person who wants to do things right straight away, on the first go, which is why it takes me forever to write. But I've realised that with writing that's just impossible. You can't write a perfect novel in one go and then never edit it, that's just not how it works. So this has really taught me to be less critical and accept the fact that I can change and add things later on. It had taught me the meaning of 'rough draft'. I defintely want to try again next year, and then start outlining as soon as possible to get familiar with the story BEFORE I start writing!

      @RivynPlays 10 років тому +1

I'm reading all the comments and it seems like a lot of people got really far this year! I, on the other hand, did not. This was my first year attempting NaNoWriMo, and let's just say I wasn't prepared for all the time I would have to commit to it! I did make some serious progress on my novel though and do plan on finishing it soon! So I am very thankful for that. If I hadn't done NaNoWriMo, I might not've made a dent! I'm proud of doing at least that much! Though I did not win, it was fun, and I cannot wait to try again next year! :)

I finished two drafts of two books, one was of my previous NaNoWriMo novels called Dear Felicity which was a second draft, the I also wrote the first draft of Ragnarök. Ragnarök is basicaly the story that I create this November, but Dear Felicity is just... I don't know, it's my baby I guess ^^ Ragnarök was 56k words and I finished that one on November 16th. When I wrote that last word on it, I didn't really know what the hell I would be doing for the rest of NaNo, then I came up with the crazy idea of beginning an already started second draft. So I did, and jumped in at chapter 11, and wrote until chapter 27 :) I'm super happy about the outcome and productivity from this NaNoWriMo, it was my first time getting 100k and the first time for me to write two drafts in 30 days :D So, yeah. I'd say it was successful!

I got to about 53,000 word so I won, which I didn't think was going to happen because I didn't write for like a week because I went to Miami and had no time. So, I'm glad I got those words. I'm unhappy that I'm not done with the story, I'm going to write the general idea of the end this weekend before the Nano sport completely leaves me. It's going to need soooo much revision, because it's a sequal I'm going to take time making sure it's just right. So, I am going to revise it and post it on Wattpad like I did last year's.

I did not win Nanowrimo this year, but I learned a lot! My goal was to add 50k to the novel I already had in progress, but I only wrote about 20k and it wasn't writing that I was super proud of...so as far as post Nano plans, I'm doing some in depth planning and character development, and world building and just working on the holes that my novel has. So, yeah, I'll be working on a final revision of the novel I've been working on all year. :)

I'm just getting extremely excited for something that I'm not even sure will happen but whatever, I'd love so much to read and own a book written by someone I admire and love this much!
Also, I attempted to do NaNoWriMo for the first time this year, but I was SO UNPREPARED! I hadn't outlined or planned ANYTHING AT ALL, I was just going to improvise. I wrote like 1000 words and then gave up =( Next year, I'll start planning the story and outlining everything as soon as possible! (But I'm still really proud of you for making it once more =D)

Won for the second year in a row, this time with a completed first draft :D Writing the last chapter was so scary!
I am planning on revising this one, but there's another (CampNaNo) story right now that I started falling back in love with... So yeah, I don't know yet. For now I have to catch up on homework and studying. Then there's exams. Maybe I can write again as early as February x3

I won two days early but I'm still not done with writing the first draft yet and I'm to busy with school now to finish it for the next couple of weeks at least! I actually thought my story wasn't going to be long enough for 50k but somehow I reached that with a third of the plot still to write!

I didn't win, but I'm so happy with what I wrote. It was a second draft of last years and has grown a lot and vastly improved.

I won NaNoWriMo! I managed to get just over 50,000 words the morning of 11/30. My story isn't actually done yet, so I'm still writing. I do hope to finish it and then edit and polish it so that some day I can publish it!

I won! First time and I Won! I went in 10 days late, with only a sort of loose outline and a whole lot of character building done and I did it! 50,000 words and an entire plot written!

This was my first year if NaNoWriMo and I won! I finished my word count of 50,000 on day 29 (oops oh well) and I feel okay about my story. I had fun writing it but I'm not so sure on my revision plans. But OMG was this so difficult! Your vlogs got me through tho

Last year, I gave up. This year, I was determined but I lost my novel after writing over 11K words! Next year, I'm gonna be fucking prepared. I'm going to save it as a draft on my favourite writing website, a document on my computer AND my memory stick, a draft on Tumblr, I'm going to ask my friends to keep copies of it, I'm going to save it EVERYWHERE. I'm NOT losing next year's NaNoWriMo. I don't care what it takes.

So it was my first year participating and it turned out to be a sucess. I had a 14k day on the last day of november that left my brain fried and i'm more than a little scared to take a look at what i've written because i don't rememeber 75 percent of what i wrote and my story is nowwhere near finished. But overall i think it was good and i will be doing it again next year.

While i'm super proud of myself for hitting 50k on day 26, i don't think i actually like my novel all that much. I'm putting it away for a whole month to work on reading and Christmas, and in January im going to reread what i wrote and then decide if i want to revise it.

I didn't do as well as I thought I would. My goal was 100,000 words and I reached 50k on day 7, but by November 30th I was at 68k. As November was the month of my graduation and school formal and celebration holiday, I didn't have much time fro writing after the 15th.

That is still amazing! I was just able to get 51K in the final hours of day 30. It was rough going this time around. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with it.

Nanowrimo & everyday vlogging at the same time is insane. Perhaps you could try VEDA vlog challenge instead & leave November for writing (& only weekly updates)? I won on day 28. Now trying to write epilogue to finish my story today.

I didn't win NaNoWriMo. I missed 7 days due to work. I do plan on doing a NaNoWriMo hangover this weekend as I have 12,000+ words to write. I really like my story I left it hanging on 79 pages and 38,359 words. I was nearly running out of stuff to write until I brought it back to the beginning of the story and I'm about to give it a twist. This last part should be interesting.

I won! Second year in a row! But, I am not happy with the pile of slop that is on the page. I am going to need to do a lot of revision for this one. It is a lot of stuff in parentheses. (Insert something awesome here) And, I need to flesh it out a lot. But, I did it! The work is just beginning but it will be worth it when it's all said and done and eventually published.

I somehow managed to win and i'm so happy! I didn't expect to because I was a good 12,000 words behind in the final week but managed to catch up in the end- I wrote 6k in one day and then 4k on the other days but I cannot imagine writing 16,000 in one day :0 It was my first time doing NaNo and i'm really glad I didn't give up (which I almost did)

I won on the 21rst, I believe, 50,400 some odd words. and then by the end of it, I was wondering if I could read 80k, but when I finally had free time for it, there were like 2 days left and I just didn't bother and now I don't know what to do... I'm kind of scared a little bit to go back and read what I had written, I know the main character is... well when I say erratic, my friend says it's like she's on a forever period cycle...
And to sum things up, I have a lot more figured out now, I have this goal.. like poster on my wall that I color when when I reach like a certain amount of words, I'm creating a blog about it and I just kinda wish the characters were real now so that they can write the story and I just guide them where to go xD
Lately though it's been writer's block, I can't figure out how the main character and the love interest are supposed to meet, he's the prince and she's a mutt. It's complicated stuff....
