Yeah, I think it's definitely smart to keep your story ideas to yourself. CAN I BE AN EXCEPTION THOUGH? TELL ME WHAT YOU'RE WRITING YO! I can't remember if you've told me about the one you're writing for NaNo or not.
Your story for some reason reminds me of a John Green book which is good because John Green is awesome. I can't wait to hear more of your story. Now I got to go write.
I feel you on the story stealing paranoia. I used to post some of my original stories and drafts and stuff online to get some feedback and there has been a few times that I've found someone has literally copy and pasted it and told people they'd wrote it themselves. It's disheartening when someone takes something you worked so hard on or were super excited about writing.
AHHHHH Kat, I've been listening to Marianas Trench while writing too!!! Lately, I've been listening to their entire discography on repeat while writing, or just listening to Ever After straight through because it's such an amazing concept album. I love them so much
Gaah! Idea theft is something that always freaks me out. I'm so sorry that it happened to you! Well this story sounds amazing so I wish you good luck with NaNoWriMo :D
that's so sad that some people feel the need to tear others down or take hold of their stories. I know this is an old video, but I wanted to say I LOVE all the stories you shared with us, and they helped give me inspiration to write and find out what sort of stories I want to tell :) Stay awesome!!
I was describing my novel very (very very) briefly to a roommate in the most broad way, and she said "Oh! Like Divergent!" No. I haven't even finished that series. Thanks for spoiling it, roommate. 1989 does not fit into my story at ALL (except maybe I Know Places) but I've had it on repeat every day. T. Swift rules the world. Good luck with your novel!
I dealt with story theft in a creative writing class a while back, so I completely understand not wanting to share details at this stage. I usually only tell my friends silly, pointless stuff about my work, like what my protagonist's favorite color is, or how they take their coffee.
Happy that you're in love with your story! Keep going! I agree with the idea theft paranoia. That's why I rarely put on real titles and make pretty generic story synopsis on the site.
yeah i totally get not wanting to share your story, im doing that this year too. Whenever i try to share my stories with my family while im outlining them they always think its an invitation to give all kinds of critique and its like thats good but.... didnt really ask for it rn. Also i always feel like when i tell people my plot it sorta cements it into place and i dont feel as open to change anymore. idk but thats just me. At least i dont have to deal with people possibling stealing my stories that sucks. Im actually writing a contemp romcom too!! it sounds like yours is a lot different but dang romcoms are fun!! i wish you luck and lots of words!!!! :))
Good luck with NaNoWriMo this year! I really hope that all goes well, and I'm sorry to hear about you getting the negative feedback during Camp Nano and NaNo 2013, that sucks. It's my first year participating in NaNoWriMo, and I've been binge-watching all your nano videos to help keep me motivated even though it is only day 4 (word count for today is 6704 for me!), so thank you for that! I hope that you have a blast participating, and happy writing!
Holy crap! As soon as I heard you read that synopsis, before you even finished reading it actually, I instantly wanted to read that story. It sounds soooooo interesting!!! Hope to maybe get to read it someday.
Your current novel sounds just awesome! Romance it's not my first option in any format- movies, series, comics, books, but I just loved your idea and would totally buy it if you ever published it or something like that! Also you're right with that idea theft fear, even I fear that and my idea it's not even that cool lol. Good luck with your novel this year! I'm at 7500 words right now and fear the worst- every year when I reach 10k I get stuck!
Wow. Your story sounds soooo great, you really should consider going through the editing process afterwords and (hopefully) getting it published! GOOD WORK KAT KEEP IT UP
Can't wait to read this! That is if you decide to publish it. But I understand whatever you decide to do and will support you! And I definitely agree with your opinions of 1989!! Some of her best songs are the bonus tracks!!!
I just wanted to comment and say that I love your nanowrimo vlogs, I'm even going back and watching all of your old ones for the first time. I've never participated in nanowrimo before but your vidoes make me think it would be a good idea to try (when it really wouldnt)
Wow your story sounds like a hoot! I love haven't had enough, great song! I hit 10,000 words today on day four for me! Yay :) Good luck Kat, wishing you all the words!
It sucks that someone did this but knowing that the person went ahead and told you about it sounds like he/she thought it would be a homage to you or something. That person don't know writers, we tend to be overprotectives about our ideas most of all when it is not quite finished yet. Now happy things: your plot sounds like spy stuff, sabotage of a study group, kidnapping, crush turned into enemy. It amazes me that are no RomCom movies with a plot like this, that has the potential to be so funny and overall amazing. Best of luck to you. As does others here, I hope to see this novel finished and published some day. ;)
5.005 words. I'm keeping myself on a schedule. Might regret that I didn't write ahead when we started NaNoWriMo off but I'm trying to do what I can. I really love your NaNo vlogs!
I love your NaNoWriMo videos! If you feel down about assholes that are too critical, just remember that you have hundreds of people that would buy your book the second you published it. (I am one of them)
Good luck Kat! I wrote almost two thousand words last night, but ended up having to delete almost half of it because it just didn't work with the character's voice or the plot. Such is life (NaNoWriMo)
Totally understand why you aren't sharing more I'm only sharing a little bit what's it about with my friends and that's it :) I'm so exited I love doing this so much and I reached today's goal yesterday so I can keep being ahead I'm so exited ahhh love it :D
Someone took your outline to write your novel?! Holy craptastic asshat ideas Batman! I do not blame you at all for keeping it close. Your conromcon sounds like a fun story!
I wish so much that I could be doing Nanowrimo right now but my school schedule is WAY too cray. So I've decided to do my own version in December! Decemowrimo? Denowrimo? Non-nanowrimo? Meh, I'll work it out ;)
I also watch your videos when I'm home from school now to get me motivated to keep writing...might be spending some time in school with writing as well oopsie ::D
You shouldn't let those negative crtics get to you! The are just jealous because they don't have your awesome ideas. I know how it is when people just seem to mock your hard work and they drag you down and you actually start to believe them, you should do what YOU think is best for your story! All the best for NaNoWriMo (hopefully I will be able to make it this year, lol) :D
I agree with the keeping things private thing, and do you think you could give us some advice with writing dialogue or cutesy things without them being cheesy? You don't have to though :)
so I'm pretty sure your writing is amazing and I think it's horrible horrible thing if someone steals your ideas! I have trouble coming up with ideas, but writing should be something you do and complete by yourself, and come up with an idea somehow by yourself. I do look at peoples videos to see what they're writing about, but I would never steal their idea, I just like seeing what people write about or come up with. or to see if my idea I think is new and exciting has actually already been done lol But if you got a book published some people would be horrible about it that just the way it goes. I love, love love your videos so much and look forward to watching them can't wait to watch more soon!
Oh wow, that must be quite upsetting to hear someone taking your idea. For me, ideas are always the hardest because there are so many possibilities and I'm a very indecisive person. A lot of effort goes into finding the perfect novel idea for me. That being said, I can completely understand and respect your decision not to completely share your ideas with us this year :) Good luck with nano! (I should probably get off of UA-cam now and write, I am so behind haha).
I didn't think anyone else knew about Marianas Trench ♥ Haven't Had Enough is probably one of my favorite songs. So is Beside You and Good To You. c: (of course my boyfriend is the one that introduced me to them, but stilllll) I really wanna hear about your story though. I liked watching your vlogs from ages ago about The Island. I'm sorry you got unwanted feedback and plot snatchers. Those are never fun. Anyway, i really like your synopsis c: I was tempted to do a rom com, but changed my mind on Halloween to write a fantasy thingy-ma-jig... Yeah...
I'm so, so sorry that you've had such bad experiences. I'm a firm believer that you should never try and critique somebody who hasn't asked for it. I honestly just thought that was common sense but apparently not. I'm going to miss hearing about your stories, but I have no doubt you'll keep doing all your ideas justice
I find it impossible to listen to songs with lyrics in them while I'm writing. But somehow I've developed an obsession with movie scores and so I've been listening to; How To Train Your Dragon 2, New Moon, Harry Potter, and Pirates of the Caribbean... I know, I'm a dork.
HAHAHAHA...the synopsis sounds awesome! I literally wrote something similar to your plight of sharing plot information. It's his plot and his story that he wants to nurture and grow before others form an opinion. I decided to have on of my characters do NaNo because I hit a stump (Yeah...didnt outline...whoops). I wish I could write to music, but I get distracted. :(
It's really sad that you won't share your stories anymore. I really liked your videos about outlining and the different novels you wrote but I totally get your point. Too bad people have no respect for your work...Anyway! Now I just can't wait until you get published so I can read your novels! ^^
Day four and I still have only 2000+ words. If only I didn't have to study! Your story souds super fun, and I think that it's a big idea not to share too much.
You are right not to share your synopsis with the world, Kat. I've been planning my NaNoWriMo novel since July and I even wrote around 15k words beforehand. Of course, I shared all that with my best friend. Then, a week or so after I've started writing and outlining, this friend of mine comes and announces she has an idea of her own to write down. (something she has never been interested in and frankly, is not that good at.) The similarities between our stories are just too many for it to be a coincidence. Also, almost every time I make a change, she does too.
Ana Paula Seixlack I know she is not a good friend. And believe me I've tried talking to her and she gets super mad, but then comes back apologising. The only solution is to stop being friends with her.

I have thought about it so much so that I even have loose and vague story idea about it XD Like that movie with Frankie Muniz, Amanda Bynes, and Paul Giamatti...
I understand Katytastic your story is your baby, I can't believe people would steal your work. :( Just wanna say really like your vlog it helps me as a writer.
I think it's totally okay to keep it a secret. In fact, I don't blame you! Why would someone take your idea? Why? Why? Why? I'm keeping mine somewhat on the downlow. I'll tell some people when they ask and I have a very short synopsis on the NaNoWriMo site. Beyond that, I'm not advertising it on my blog or anything. It's a story that's pretty private and personal and I don't want to share it with people until I'm comfortable.
I actually stopped sharing my ideas with people, or at least going into detail with them (even with my writing group), because I find that it drains my excitement. I share my passages once they're written, but my group doesn't get any ideas about what's coming until it's on paper and they can read it for themselves.
I wish I could do Nanowrimo this year...it's been so long since I've written something. But University is just too crazy for me right now to even consider it. :/
I don't like sharing to much of my story either because SPOILERS! And that was the best synopsis ever! If you publish it then you should put that on the back. I would definitely pick that up!
I was 4000 words in on day TWO but.. I restarted. Used day 3 to draft a completely new plan so I started writing today and I've only got 2007 words. Should I be worried?
Yeah, I think it's definitely smart to keep your story ideas to yourself. CAN I BE AN EXCEPTION THOUGH? TELL ME WHAT YOU'RE WRITING YO! I can't remember if you've told me about the one you're writing for NaNo or not.
wait i just got the part of the synopsis! THAT SOUNDS EPIC. Keep writing Kat! YOU'VE GOT THIS. :)
Hi:)
BLANK SPACE. I have a lot of feelings about that song, especially the aggressive pen click. So good.
Michele Dee Yesssss it's just so good!
Your story for some reason reminds me of a John Green book which is good because John Green is awesome. I can't wait to hear more of your story. Now I got to go write.

I love those three! Along with wonderland, style and wildest dreams I think those are my top favourites
that's so sad that some people feel the need to tear others down or take hold of their stories. I know this is an old video, but I wanted to say I LOVE all the stories you shared with us, and they helped give me inspiration to write and find out what sort of stories I want to tell :) Stay awesome!!

I feel like how you get the girl is the best 'end credit' song for a rom com story! i have 1989 on repeat too but for me i'm studying for my exam.
You made the right decision, Kat. I'm rooting for you! keep writing and stay ahead!!
Your story sounds like SO MUCH FUN!

Your story sounds like a lot of fun!
Your story sounds like the greatest thing to happen ever.
Kennedy Compton Thank you! I'm certainly enjoying it so far :3
I love the whole "accidental kidnapping of stoned cheerleaders," that's pretty awesome!
Wow your story sounds like a hoot! I love haven't had enough, great song! I hit 10,000 words today on day four for me! Yay :) Good luck Kat, wishing you all the words!

right there with you on the taylor swift 1989 train, loving welcome to new york
Your synopsis sounds fantastic! Keep up the awesome work!
Ugh! I hate people who steal other ideas! Love what you have so far :)
Your story sounds so cool!!! I hope you enjoy writing it
I don't read too much contemporary novels, but I would definitely want to read that one. It's sounds great.

I literally just finished listening to Haven't Had Enough before I clicked on this video!
I'M SO HAPPY I REACHED 10K! I'm so glad I'm ahead because I have a very hectic school schedule for the next couple of weeks ^-^
I want to read your novel! What a great (but breif) synopsis! :D Good luck in your NaNoWriMo-ing! :D

Sounds great kat! I would read it lol all the best for nanowrimo good luck :)
Thank you! :)
See I don't like Com Rom Coms in books or movies but I want to read this!! It sounds so good!!!
Your story sounds SO great! I really want to read it okay!
I've been jamming to 1989 as well and it has nothing to do with my story but it's fun. Im so behind on NANO :O Gotta write write write!
Your story sounds great!!
Love me some Mariana's Trench :$ Saw them in concert a few years ago. AMAZING! Anyways your story sounds great. Goodluck
Your book sounds awesome if it was published I would buy it right know if I could
Your story sounds GREAT

it sounds really really fun already even if we don't know much about it.
are we going to be able to read the finished book sometime?
Marianas Trench shotout! Their music gets me through writing a lot of time.
Taylor is queen
maddison Hagger Truth
I find it impossible to listen to songs with lyrics in them while I'm writing. But somehow I've developed an obsession with movie scores and so I've been listening to; How To Train Your Dragon 2, New Moon, Harry Potter, and Pirates of the Caribbean... I know, I'm a dork.
I'm just going with your AWESOME!!!
Dang! I hate it when I accidentally kidnap stoned cheerleaders. :D Hilarious. It's going to be great, Kat.
Gosh your story sounds great. Mine is crappy but I like the characters enough to continue.
That sounds amazing! Haha if u ever publish this, I would be racin to the shelves and gettin my cash ready.
Day four and I still have only 2000+ words. If only I didn't have to study!
Your story souds super fun, and I think that it's a big idea not to share too much.
That synopsis sounds pretty epic. I hope in the future we can read it :)
So, she's not a good friend. Everybody knows that this is the typical thing that can pisses a writer off... You should talk to her.
I suggest you read Afterworlds by Scott Westerfield and while what your friend did isnt okay, it isnt always preventable.
Ana Paula Seixlack I know she is not a good friend. And believe me I've tried talking to her and she gets super mad, but then comes back apologising. The only solution is to stop being friends with her.
Emily Hawkins I have had Afterworlds on my TBR for ages now and really should start it soon.
You`re doing great on your word count! I`m a little behind on mine, but I`m feeling much more motivated now that I`ve done some sprints on Twitter. They`re so helpful!! And do you back up your story in more than one place? All I`ve been doing is saving it within my document that I`m writing in it and emailing it to myself every couple of days.
It sucks that you have to deal with that kind of anxiety. Personally, that has been lingering in the back of my head for a while which is why I stopped writing on public sites like Movellas or Wattpad.
Do you plan on adding your book play list that a lot of YA/NA authors do with their books?
Whats that poster on your wall? Is it for motivation ? Your plans? I want to make one like yours! Please tell me some info so i can start!☺

Marianas Trench is ma jam!
i love marianas trench too!!!
Oh and by the way I just searched Mariana's trench, thanks for introducing me to an awesome band! No one I know listens to them, they're great!
Yesss they are awesome! I'm glad I could help you find them! :)
It really does sound like fun. :) Your novel, I mean.
I get what you're saying about being protective over your story idea.
Now I feel like we have the same taste in music... Marianas Trench is so great and so underrated!
I wish I could do Nanowrimo this year...it's been so long since I've written something. But University is just too crazy for me right now to even consider it. :/
Do you think you're going to try to publish the novel you're writing? I would definitely read it if you do! 😄
where'd you get your hat? It's awesome!
I can't believe someone did that!!! Yay 1989 is awesome!!
What writing program do you use? KEEP GOING GUUURL!!!
Marianas Trench is a awesome band their influence can only be good for your story and so far it sounds like tons of fun.
^___^
that is an amazing story
i would sooooo buy this book based on it's synopsis! can you please publish it? :)
I don't like sharing to much of my story either because SPOILERS! And that was the best synopsis ever! If you publish it then you should put that on the back. I would definitely pick that up!
Hey!
You're story sounds hilarious!!! Good for you for sticking to it and getting ahead!
Too bad that your Warlock/Gladiator story was plagarized :(
I was 4000 words in on day TWO but..
I restarted. Used day 3 to draft a completely new plan so I started writing today and I've only got 2007 words.
Should I be worried?
I am so behind on writing, ugh.I leave school at 8,come back after 4 and then do homework and study and sigh, all I wanna do is write.
