Hello and thank you for your comments! I am surprised at some of the scores. I was sure my test would be too easy for my Polish natives, so it's good to see I put forth some type of challenge. Anyhow, I wanted to answer a few common "concerns" about the way I constructed the quiz: 1.) Yes, I am aware that there are also lakes in Pomerania. So if you chose that option, give yourself credit. However, I believe most people in Poland associate Mazury with the lakes. 2.) I am sad to hear/see that there is a TVR. I was sure my "made-up" TV station DID NOT exist. I have to get a bit more tricky in the future. 3.) I chose to write some cities in English and others in Polish due to my personal liking. I hate seeing Wrocław as Wroclaw and Kraków as Cracow. It just irritates me...and let's not even talk about LODZ! 4.) I have a friend who was a tour guide in Kraków. He confirms that Mickiewicz is the Polish Shakespeare as he referred to him this way during his guides. Here is more proof I found during my research. www.funtrivia.com/en/Geography/Poland/Answer2388448_738536.html
It was fun and to easy for me . I love history maybe that's why. Dr. Ewa Kurek is really wonderful and and Bryan Mark Rigg if anyone would like to learn more.
Russell, a random dude from Fun Trivia is hardly a reliable source of information. It's true Mickiewicz is one of the 3 (or 4, if you count Norwid) great Polish Bards and we learn this in primary school, but no one (except your friend and maybe other tour guides) refers to him as Polish Shakespear. There's a saying that if something's not on Google, then it doesn't exist. Well, there's no "Polish Shakespear" or "polski Szekspir" on Google.
@@michamarkowski2204 You've got a point, but I'll add one more. I worked in the philology faculty for 7 years and heard this phrase among academics there as well. It does exist in fact.
@@LoveMyPoland I wonder why Mickiewicz is regarded by some people as the Polish Shakespeare. They didn't have much in common. They were both excellent writers, but nothing more than that. Some people say Mickiewicz was the best Polish poet, but many disagree, because Kochanowski, Krasicki, Słowacki or Norwid were also great. And when it comes to the whole of literature there were even more great writers (e.g. Sienkiewicz). Shakespeare is regarded as the greatest writer of his country, Mickiewicz isn't. Shakespeare is regarded as the greatest playwright of his country, Mickiewicz isn't. Their biography is very different.
@@michamarkowski2204 She isn't, it is Słowacki, and it was taught in schools, in my time in elementary, we all had to write an essay to point the similarities, and there are numerous positions comparing his artwork to Shakespear's. No idea why did Russell got that BS from, but he is obviously misled.
Russell masz poczucie humoru.
2:07 Actually there is a very big lake region in West Pomerania (Pojezierze Drawskie) and smaller one in Central/East Pomerania (Pojezierze Kaszubskie). I'm sure both of these are in total bigger than Masurian lake region.
Hi! Great video! I'm Polish and still I had problem with 2 questions. I thought that the oldest Polish town is Gniezno. One thing has changed since you made this video. Now I'd say that polish Shakespeare is Jan Kochanowski. His statue made by Andrew Lilley stays in Anne Hathaway family home (garden) in Stratford. There's a lot of similarities in their lives, and they both lost their beloved child.
Loved this episode very much. I guess you could do more of these. Well, I failed I scored 65 points. OMG...repenting for not choosing the answers when I had a doubt. I was confused between the two and obviously chose the wrong one. Totally enjoyed it. Thanks for this lovely idea.

Hi Russell, another great episode. I really enjoy all of them. How about list of most weird and interesting Polish myths and legends? As you know we believe in many superstitions, thus we have lot of them, like Wars & Sawa (thay gave name to Warszawa), Brave Szewczyk Dratewka, who killed Wawel Dragon, Pan Twardowski, King Popiel and mices, Basilisk or St. Mary's Church buggle call. Dive in into lecture if you find some time, the are usually really short tales, to scare kids or teach them valor and bravery.
Few questions needed my attention as they were little ambiguous or unclear: - tv stations for example as we may look at history or current status. By the way, TVR exists :) - ceramics city is of course Bolesławiec, but in Tarnów they also make it, so I had doubts here - lake region is to most of people Mazury, but I travel around Poland a lot and Pomorze is also having as many or even more lakes, - palm tree is not something unique for Warsaw only. I seen them in middle of roundabouts in more places. Some are even natural and not artificial :) But overall I passed with only one mixup with question about palace. Wasn't sure if Belvedere Palace is only representative or also place to live by presidential pair. So i could make mistake in 5 out of 20 questions. As for next trivia you can ask about: Wieliczka Salt Mine, Malbork castle, Gniezno (first capital city) as examples :)
I scored 30🥺 i don't really have any idea haha. I must ask these questions to my polish girlfriend and let's see if she gets a hundred 😂 Ps. I'm going to Poland this April 2020, though I'm excited to be in the country but more excited to finally be with the love of my life❤️

Wow, this was a brutal quiz, I got only 16/20 (well, I would have guessed two more but as a Pole I should be held to higher standards so I counted only those I was sure about. So, quoting a certain well-known Polish journalist who was scolding his subordinate in crude words without knowing he was being recorded: 'How the f*** are those poor people supposed to understand this? When I don’t understand any of it myself?'. :D
That was very easy but still interesting. Well done! Russel, how come a fully proved Medalik (I am sure you know this term :D ) haven't made an episode about a speedway yet?
Native Pole, but got q14 wrong. Also, q11, isnt this highway named after ancient merchant road from Roman Empire times, which also often mentions Kalisz (hence q15)?
I finally got my Polish citizenship (by descent) and passport too! All the more reason to visit Poland again. And maybe have another beer like we did in Chestacova.
I loved the questions - they appeal to common knowledge, instead being tricky, as in most quizes of that type :) By the way, as a Silesian, which nowadays usually means Upper Silesian, I want to remind that Lower Silesia was also known for its coal mining. The difference was in the depth of the coal which created different problems in both regions. In Upper Silesia it's a coal mining infrastructure, in Lower Silesia it's about low depth shafts, often amateur and left without securing it, which could be a deadly trap for passing by people.
Władysław Jagiełło was not second but first Jagiełło, he was indeed the founder of Jagiełło dynasty on polish throne. However he was second Władysław. First king Władysław (Łokietek, literally: the Elbow-high) came from Piast dynasty. He managed to re-unite the Kingdom of Poland after almost 200 years and for that deserves all the appreciation.
I think the "amber highway" is derived from ancient "Amber Road" which run through center Europe "splitting" it in half, from the Baltic Sea into the ends of Italia (even in ancient Greece one could find amber from Baltic :)). Like similar but more famous example "silk road", which run across whole Asia into Europe. Does not matter how it's called, if it's a gesture towards USSR it can only have one meaning in Poland :D
The residence of the president is a tricky one. Jaruzelski and Wałęsa resided in Belweder Palace, then Wałęsa moved to Presidential Palace, Kwaśniewski and Kaczyński stayed there, Komorowski went to Belweder again, now Duda resides in Presidential. It's hard to keep track.
Pozdrawiam :)
18/20 and I'm from Poland. I didn't know if Kalisz is older than Warsaw or not, so I decided to pick one at random. Guessed wrong. But I'm not sure about statement that in question 10 the correct answer is just B. I clearly remember Pope saying a story from his young times when he was going with friends at Wadowice regularly for some WZtki. I even googled for "WZtki papieskie" and "Kremówki papieskie" and as expected. Both things exist and are known with their connection with pope. Both answers are correct.
Okey, i gotta admit that as a native Pole i was kinda scared to take this test. In the end i came out with 100points (what a relieve) I wasn't sure of two answers (q11 and q15) but got them throu elimination.
Różnica jest za mała, by jedno z nich nazywać THE lake region.

80 points, Nailed it!
Nie zawiodłem moich rodaków.
Russell masz poczucie humoru.
I got everything except one TV station wrong 👍👊🤣 I think I’m good after 30 years leaving in States 👍 and I left Poland at 17 years old 😎🤐👍🤣👊
TVR is a small racing car manufacturer in UK. ;-)
There's a lot of similarities in their lives, and they both lost their beloved child.
got 'em all, but i cheated on the 100 zloty bill question ;p opened up my wallet.

Loved this episode very much. I guess you could do more of these. Well, I failed I scored 65 points. OMG...repenting for not choosing the answers when I had a doubt. I was confused between the two and obviously chose the wrong one. Totally enjoyed it. Thanks for this lovely idea.
55. thought i would have done better after many trips to Poland, but there you go

Good job.!
A fantastic idea! Thanks 👌👍💡
Few questions needed my attention as they were little ambiguous or unclear:
- tv stations for example as we may look at history or current status. By the way, TVR exists :)
- ceramics city is of course Bolesławiec, but in Tarnów they also make it, so I had doubts here
- lake region is to most of people Mazury, but I travel around Poland a lot and Pomorze is also having as many or even more lakes,
- palm tree is not something unique for Warsaw only. I seen them in middle of roundabouts in more places. Some are even natural and not artificial :)
But overall I passed with only one mixup with question about palace.
I must ask these questions to my polish girlfriend and let's see if she gets a hundred 😂
Ps. I'm going to Poland this April 2020, though I'm excited to be in the country but more excited to finally be with the love of my life❤️
hey, how was/is your trip to Poland ? 😉 any success?

Well, let me prove you wrong: ua-cam.com/users/results?search_query=mazurek+chopin :-) Wojtek, you go back to square 1. :-DDD
Popes cream cake, beer, Cooking show, Kalisz oldest, not too bad considering I live in Australia. I have family in Poland and learn a lot about this beautiful country each visit. I enjoyed this quiz, lets do more Thank you ❤️🇦🇺❤️🇦🇺
....Question 16.... quick pause of the video and then sprint to grab the wallet~ xD
Love this quiz! Got 85/100 :) I got wrong the 1, 12 and 13 question. I had a lot of fun with this trivia! Thak you Russell!
This was great, we had 3 wrong but I've been in America almost 56 years. 100 bill, the Amber highway and Touron Gingerbread. 👍👍😎
That was awesome! While being a native I still had two answers wrong, so you thought me something - isn't that great? Thank you!

Every time I go to Zakopane I visit Jasna Góra, eat a pickled lamb tongue, and climb the Resting Camel. And then drive back to Kraków on a highway.

As a person born in Warsaw, living currently in München though, I’ve still got one mistake in the ceramics’ town question, though. Good job, Russel! 😉

What a surprise! 🌴??? 🤔 probably they've set it up after I moved out from Poland🤣 💃
That was very easy but still interesting. Well done!
Russel, how come a fully proved Medalik (I am sure you know this term :D ) haven't made an episode about a speedway yet?
Thanks! I plan to 👍😊
Piwo Kozłowskie xD We need this beer in Poland :D
Native Pole, but got q14 wrong. Also, q11, isnt this highway named after ancient merchant road from Roman Empire times, which also often mentions Kalisz (hence q15)?
I finally got my Polish citizenship (by descent) and passport too! All the more reason to visit Poland again.
And maybe have another beer like we did in Chestacova.
Congratulations 👏🎉👏🎉👏. Bring it on!
Pytanie nr 20, najlepsze.
Do upadłego.
Just scraped through. But I have been living outside Poland for decades.
Strictly speaking, the amber highway is named after the amber route, by which the baltic amber was transported to Rome.
18 pytanie zawiera 2 odpowiedzi , mianowicie odp. A i C. 😉
I'm a native Pole and I got 19/20 questions right, the only incorrect one was the one about President's place of living
I'm Polish and got 17/20.
BTW great job
I think the "amber highway" is derived from ancient "Amber Road" which run through center Europe "splitting" it in half, from the Baltic Sea into the ends of Italia (even in ancient Greece one could find amber from Baltic :)). Like similar but more famous example "silk road", which run across whole Asia into Europe.
Does not matter how it's called, if it's a gesture towards USSR it can only have one meaning in Poland :D
19/20
I failed question nr4, I picked Tarnów 😅
Ever heard of Pomeranian Lakeland? ;)
32 years out of Poland, but I still made it😁70%
16/20 i to z jednym strzałem. O legendzie o Giewoncie pierwsze słyszę chyba. O Bolesławcu dowiedziałem się całkiem przypadkiem.
Legenda o Giewoncie była w książce "Gąbka i latające talerze".
I love your 'r' in Mazury
@neenja - you clearly made a joke/mistake about Bieszczady? 🤔
@@peteroz7332 Awwww shieet. Yea it was supposed to be mazury and pomorskie. Mea culpa.
@@NeenJaxd haha, 😉 no worries, mate. have a great day
I think Cyprian Kamil Norwid is regarded as the "polish Shakespeare".
I don't think so. He just wrote a poem "In Verona" about Shakespear's Romeo & Juliet.
Of the three, I'd say it was Słowacki who wrote plays with most Shakespearean influences.
90 percent. Not to shabby for a non-Pole
