Using Halloween & Halloween candy to scare parents is a time honored American custom. It was razor blades in apples or popcorn balls when I was a kid in the olden days.
Remember when they banned clown masks around 10 years ago out of fear of mass murderers using them?

I had one of those horrible store bought Halloween costumes with the plastic mask once. Pretty sure my Mom waited until the last moment and all that was left was a Popeye one. For some reason I just took it in stride and went with it. She even got creative and added a can of spinach for me to carry around for the night. The mask didn't last long, my face was covered in sweat and spit in no time flat. So I was just a little girl with an odd man's muscle body carrying around a can of something.

My mother made our costumes for a while. (My older brother made a great-looking pirate.) I generally ended up with my older sister’s year-before-last costume.
We always had those costumes when we were little. Those masks always smelled like vomit.

Yes, it was great . In arctic Alaska we would get crackers, Jerry maybe Penny if we were lucky . And some candy like a Hershy chocolate split up into each little squares. It was heaven !! We used pillow cases or hats .
Some of the little old neighbor ladies would make special treats for us kids that lived on the block. (Other kids just got the store bought stuff)
I lived in 4 different states in different regions of the U.S. during the time referred to and it was that way everywhere I lived...always swore I would never say this when I was young but I must say..."Those were the good ole days".
I grew up in the 90s/00s and we did basically the same thing. When I was old enough my parents let me plan out my route with my friends so we knew which neighborhoods tended to be older and closed early and those with younger, rich couples that would give you two or three candy bars

Guillermo's Halloween sounds like my neighborhood. We go around to everyone's house with the kids. The kids get candy the parents get a shot of tequila or glass of wine. The really great thing is the fall is when the new crop of agave has been harvested and they start bottling the mellowing tequila. My favorite is the vanilla tequila that comes in limited amounts. You can always tell those of us that were out with the kids. People see us and think it is so sweet we are holding our kids hands on the way home. Really it is the kids leading us back home.

I'm in Ohio. I already voted. I want to say to people who have yet to vote; be careful, really know who is on the ballot and thoroughly read the fine print on any issues on the ballot. Here there were some issues, one in particular about voting, that I could see people easily misunderstanding. Like the one we heard about with the abortion law in Kansas I think it was, where the wording was intentionally tricky to potentially mislead people. Well that was exactly what I saw with this issue on the Ohio ballot on voting. To me it seemed like a big effort to put in more suppression. So, in a nutshell really know the who's and what's before you mark the choice.
