If you are having trouble finding a magnet, look for them on fridge magnets. Many times they use these mini magnets. You can also look inside if the power drill extensions. They use small magnets inside to hold the drill bits in place.
Someone here suggested to cut the green wire after unscrewing the top. I just want to thank you.. Permanent fix. Any type of reusable kcup works from me on. I tell the machine what cup to use not the opposite. For those wondering is not hard at all. Just one freaking screw and everything pops out. Just google your model number and done. Permanently.
Thank you. These menus appeared when I used a new My K-Cup in my 2.0 and the included instructions didn’t tell me what they meant. Yours is the only search result that answers my questions. Thanks again!
I was quite upset over my purchase of the 2.0. The reason being that Keurig fooled me into buying a product which will work ONLY with their brand of cups! Only after opening the box did I know this little trick. Was about to send it back, but didn't want to pay shipping costs. I really like the machine except I felt bamboozled by the company. I can't even believe they could do this. You don't buy a Ford that will only work with Exxon gas! Then my son suggested there had to be a hack. And, so I found you. Thank you so much. Still pretty steamed about it but, I can do this and still have the advantage of brewing a carafe. I only drink 1 cup a day generally. I will keep it, buyer beware!
I used a chip clip magnet and it worked perfectly as you have shown. Thanks! No cutting lids or wires or taping tops. Just a small magnet to fool the contact censor and boom, all is good to go. I leave the magnet in the drip tray, and only use it when I need it, as most of the time I just use regular K-cups and small 8 oz brews. Every once in a while I use an adapter for regular bag coffee for a bigger 12-14 oz brew. Thanks for this no fuss no modifications hack.
Thank you!!!! I have resisted buying a Keurig for years due to cost of coffee (when one has 6 cups a day, that adds up quickly). when I saw they have this model, and especially with your remedy for limited us, I had to sign up for a UA-cam account just to thank you!!
Sophie Boonton I so appreciate you taking the time and effort to write your note! Please share with your friends and folks on Social Media regarding these hacks. Thank you!
I did this and it worked for one night. Woke up the next morning and it quit working. I tried changing polarity, diff spots against the sensor, everything. Then I took the lid to a carafe cup off just like in the other video this guy has and taped it up with it pushed back all the way as far as it would let me. Then I snapped the pivot piece off of the OE man get piece so that I can move it back and forth without the needle inside moving. Now it works perfectly every time without a magnet and I can use any brand k cup without having to remove a magnet to use carafe cups. Yes I had to break my 2.0 to do it but I can do whatever with this keurig now at anytime without messing with anything anymore. I have kids also that use this and I don't have to worry about them running off with the magnet. If anybody wants more details on this method just message me.
Just got my k560 and was able to unlink the tab you mentioned without breaking anything. Just by removing the small screw at the bottom of the kcup holder you can wiggle that needle arm out of socket to unlink the latch that holds the magnet up, once you do this the magnet stays down, keeping the Needle in place, giving you the full menu, I don't have a need for brewing a karaf, but I am sure you can manually move the needl arm away if need be , I still need to do the first hack (tape the top of the kcup) but I get all the menues for now which is what I need since I got loads of kcups with my costco bundle. Thanks for the tip. -edit- the needle does not manually retract all the way so Karaf size cannot be used doing this.
When the carafe cup is inserted, it is way bigger and the protrusion on the lower side of the carafe cup that faces you as you insert it, it will push the needle out of the way. At least on my 2.0 it does.
Chris Chase right I meant that you cannot use the karaf the way I did it, I did not snap the pivot piece off, and still get the full menu but the big cup does not fit, because as the needle arm retracts the pivot tab get in the way, I guess I can break it off too, it really doesn't harm anything.
So did you bust the pivot needle on the top of a 400 model? You said the magnet used for a night but you have a way to do it another way?? My keurig 2.0 is the model where the magnet truck won't work. Can you make a video?? Thankd
UPDATE: The new "Eco Cafafe" and "Eco Cup" reusable pods by "Perfect Pod" work with the new 2.0 brewers without having to tape lids from Keurig K-Cups on top of them - or do anything other hacks! They unlock the brewer (I'm assuming because they're made with "neon" like coloring to the plastic, as well as having details on the lid that the new Keurig 2.0's read as a "Keurig Brewed" label. But who cares? They work!). These reusable K-cups also come with an actual hinge for the lid, rather than having the lid just be attached at one end and bending it up and down to use it until it breaks off. They're also dishwasher safe and come with a steel filter built in that works fine without having to buy the little paper filters to go inside them. Here are the Amazon links to both the K-Cup and the K-Carafe (which completely unlocks the entire menu so you can use all of the options 1 through 6!). The headaches are over - enjoy everybody!: K-Cup single-cup-serving size: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PBF3T3E?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00; K-Carafe size: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T6TBJ5Q?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
uh...freakin money, and who knows...remember any electrical device not matter how safe in America still must pass the Underwriter's Laboratory for safety before being sold to the public...but pass all of that...freakin money!!!
+LadyPashta That was because they had a patent on the cup design, so others couldn't legally make cups. That patent expired, so they switched to technical controls.
Probably the first comment I’ve ever posted, but this DOES WORK I had a needle error even after a extensive cleaning. This title trick over road It, and it works great now
Bar magnet cut to size with a bolt cutter works perfect. I also got it from an unused window sensor. Like a dork I was thinking it did not work as I did not have a K cup in the unit when I tested it. Add a cup.
I was having the same difficulty everyone else was. Then combined two hacks I had watched. I cut the top off of a regular sized Keurig K-cup and placed it on top of my refillable cup with a small piece of clear packing tape folding it down on top of k-cup. That along with magnet unlocked all options.
I tried the magnet and it didn't work. So I cut a piece of top ring and taped it directly to optical sensor, now it works and it's better than taping the whole ring as that adds thickness to cup and you can feel it closing harder plus it's less chance of coming off.
azppmd i just watched a different keurig 2.0 hack video and you can unlock the menu with by cutting off the top of a karaft cup and putting it on vue cup. The guy said because its not as deep it opens up the menu. i haven't tried it but it might work with other k-cups.
This definitely works. I have to pull the bottom tab down to activate it with a magnet though. I’m sure it won’t be much of a problem with a reusable cup since the tab has to accommodate the lid and extra plastic. Thanks so much for the video.
Simple fix to all of this...just buy a Keurig 2.0 My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter. You can use any k-cup style pod! Just purchase your favorite k-cup blend, remove the cover and pour contents into the Keurig 2.0 My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter and all those options are available! :)
For those having problems finding a decent magnet... I figured out an easy way to tell if your magnet will do the job. The lever you use for carafes is what needs the magnetic force. You want a strong enough magnet to stick to the left hand side of the lever. If the magnet tries to pull towards the right side of the lever the polarity is wrong! It should naturally stick to/pull towards the left side. Once it does so, you should be good to go. I used a spacer magnet. You can buy a ton of them for a couple of dollars on the internet. You can probably even find an old fridge magnet with the same style magnet. Here's a picture of my unit, with the menu unlocked: i.imgur.com/0AVDFt3.png
any suggestions are where to buy from the internet? Amazon had some but for some reason when going to checkout it said they can't deliver this item to my area... strange... so I went elsewhere and it looks that most are coming internationally and could take weeks... I am looking for some ASAP... also, as far as size... I got the 1.5 mm but will Rare Earth Super Magnets 1/8 x 1/16 in. (3x1.5mm) (x50) work?
Chris Retzinger The listing "100pcs Strong Power Round Disc Slice 8 x 1mm Rare Earth Neodymium Magnets Magnet" should contain 100 of the magnets that should do the trick.
It does not need to be a magnet. Just something that hits the sensor there. You could also buy a refillable cup that you can put your own coffee in. This is for both types (craft or cup) and will trigger the same menu.
Yeah it's probably an internal issue. Return it, get your money back, and spend it on something that will actually works. fk THIS George Jetson bullshit
The ONLY hacks I've found online that work with the brand new (I got it on 9/11/15) K250 (read "K250 model") 2.0 Keurig machine are cutting the top off of a Keurig disposable K-Cup, then cutting it in half and attaching it the left-hand side of the top of a reusable K-Cup (I bought a "Brew & Save" brand reusable K-Cup at Walmart. It works fine). Black "Gorilla" tape is quite strong and holds the Keurig 1/2-top in place on the lid of the reusable K-Cup, even when you rinse it off under the faucet. I wouldn't expect the tape to necessarily hold if you put it in the dishwasher though. I tried removing the 2 screws and the plastic top of the machine to see if I could do the permanent hacks of cutting the green optical sensor wire and removing the magnetic switch so as to get the full menu at all times with any K-Cup/K-Carafe. The lid is made differently from previous machines and is much more of a hassle to remove. It has a clamp that snaps over a tab in the back. I put a couple of small scratches at the back end of the top of the lid getting it off. Some prying is involved when both removing it and putting it back on because of the plastic clamp design. Once off, there are 10 tabs in all in the K250 (I believe) holding the top & bottom halves of the assembly together that houses the magnetic switch inside, and they run along the outer ridge of the assembly all the way to the back of the machine where the water tube and wire bundle are - twice the number of clips than are shown in the UA-cam video for this hack, which was done on a different machine. Also, when I tried to pry ANY of the clips off of the tabs with a small, flat-blade screwdriver, they started to split immediately before I could get them to release the tabs, leaving me feeling that trying to open the assembly and take out the magnetic switch MIGHT leave you with NO clips leftover to snap the tabs back into again afterwards. Keurig REALLY built the new K250 NOT to be disassembled! It's possible to do it, but I'm not willing to risk snapping off retainer clips trying to unclip 10 clips to get at the magnetic switch. If someone else can upload a video for the K250 showing how to do the permanent hacks without permanently breaking the machine, I hope you will. Meanwhile, the hack where you color white paper with a Neon fine point Sharpie marker and tape it to the hole under the top also DOES NOT WORK with this machine. I tried both the yellow and orange neon markers, and when I put the reusable K-Cup in the machine WITHOUT taping the Keurig lid on top of it, the machine came back with its "Oops! The machine will not work with this cup", you have to use a Keurig one, etc., message. I tried taping the colored paper over the hole in the back as the videos show, then the hole in front, then both holes. This hack does not work regardless. The hack where the girl put a toothpick down inside the cup holder to keep the magnet under the switch to get the full menu without having to use a Keurig K-Carafe cup also didn't work because the K250 simply does not have any hole into which you can place a toothpick. The hack where you place a magnet in the holder under the magnetic switch in the machine DID work to bring up the full menu while using a K-Cup instead of a K-Carafe, so that's useful it you want all of the menu options, including the carafe option (No. 1), to customize your cup of coffee, tea, etc. The magnet needs to be of at least "refrigerator magnet" strength to close the switch inside the machine and bring up the full menu. I tried a weaker magnet, but no go. You have to remove the magnet, of course, when you put a K-Carafe size cup in the brewer. Be careful - there are gaps next to where you put the magnet into which it can fall down inside the assembly, and I had to unplug the machine and turn it upside down to get it out again. I also had to use a toothpick with a piece of tape on it to grab the magnet. I've put a small strip of Gorilla tape on the magnet now to both hold it in place in the machine, and to provide a length of tape leading off of it to take it out of the machine without dropping it inside again. There are also aftermarket K-Carafe size reusable cups you can buy that are supposed to fit the 2.0 machines. I'm hoping I can put a regular Keurig K-Cup lid on top of one of those, put it in the machine, and then just use option 1 for carafe brewing, rather than having to cut and attach a Keurig lid from a K-Carafe cup onto the reusable carafe cup to get it to work. I shouldn't have to do that based on my testing so far. Additionally, the K250 does not have a built-in clock, so you can't do programmable brewing. It also does not have "Favorites" in its menu where you can save customized settings. It does not come with its own carafe either, so you have to buy one separately. I bought the Keurig thermal one. When brewing a carafe, the K250 stops at 28 ounces, even though the carafe can hold 32 ounces. The manual says you'll get "about 30 ounces" using the carafe setting. I hope after reading this that people will upload new videos showing how to successfully, and even permanently, override the electronics in the K250 2.0 model so you can use any brand or reusable K-Cup/K-Carafe you want. Last note: The sales representative did say Keurig is supposed to be coming out with a compatible reusable K-Cup this fall for this machine. I asked about a K-Carafe size reusable one, but they said there were no current plans to come out with one of those. We'll see if they follow through on either.
I was wondering if some colors of nail polish, painted over the lense of the color sensor would work. the Orange Guitar pick, that works great to unlock all modes with the tywrap holding in the K-carafe that Orange Guitar is not reflective at all, more of a dull flat color, so reflection has nothing to do with it. But color seems like the thing it recognizes as positive. I also used a Basil leave from a in door basil plant, it allowed me into a single KCup like mode number 4, that was weird, but i am just playing to see what works that I already have, the Guitar pick is fool proof, and will last a VERY LONG TIME
After finding out through your incredibly helpful videos that I could hack a Keurig 2.0 to work with any K cups & use the magnet to unlock all the menu choices I actually went ahead and ordered the 550 model through QVC because they were offering a great low price for this machine in a package deal. Because the Keurig 2.0 is getting such crummy reviews everywhere they are going to have to sell what they have in stock for cheap! I, for one, am going to take advantage of this deal. This is my first Keurig by the way. Everyone has been complaining about the cheap plastic carafe that comes with the 2.0. Here is a trick that I did. People, go buy one of those cheap silver bubble insulating bags for transporting frozen/cold foods from your local grocery store(Aldi's sells them for $2 or $3). Unscrew the 4 screws on the bottom of the carafe & take it apart & cut that silver bubble insulation to fit around the inside of the bottom part of the carafe. I managed to get 2 layers in there. Then put the thing back together. It will help keep the coffee in that carafe warm. Cheers!
I still use my first gen Keurig with zero issues and no reasons to hack, but I can tell you that a magnet out of an old computer harddrive should do the trick. They are very strong. As far as shape wise, that may be an issue. But worth a shot.
I have chip clips I broke it to get the small circle magnet out it was the perfect size first I tried to put it in the hole cause that's what I thought he did && it didn't work then I laid it across, it was the perfect fit and now my cup is finally filled to the top!!!
I suggest using a round (pencil eraser radius sized) flat magnet, about 1.5mm to 2mm thick. Because the magnetic forces will be on the FLAT sides of the magnet, making the hack easy and quick. Tape a short piece of scotch tape to magnet. While holding the tape drop the magnet next to the front-left of the reqtangle. The correct side of the magnet should attract to the left-front of the black reqtangle. If your magnet jumps to the right-front of the reqtangle, then simply flip the magnet and try again. Tape a small piece to the magnet and top of black reqtangle to secure the magnet. This also allows the Keurig 2.0 to adjust for the Carafe and Vue Pods, without wrecking your taped magnet. If you do not feel like looking in a; WalMart, Walgreens, CVS, or other store with fridge magnets to buy and destroy a fridge magnet, you may want to try; Radio Shack, Fry's, Lowes, Home Depot or other better hardware store.
I don't believe this works on the 400 series Keurig... I tried the magnet trick and no matter what, it didn't work. (There are many others that have a 400 series and state it doesn't work on theirs below as well.) I did, however manage to get it working on mine--a bit more involved but I think it's better in the long run. Here's what I did: 1) Cut and tape a carafe pod foil under the sensor (back>left corner). The big colored circle needs to be scanned, so it may take you a few tries to get it right. 2) Take out the complete pack holder as if you were going to clean it. Follow steps 1-4 (in my Guide book, page 24). 3) Remove the phillips screw from the bottom of the pack holder after separating it from the housing. 4) Gently remove the "hinge" from the holder by pushing from the bottom of the holder towards the top. Be sure to remember how the spring is in place at the top of the hinge. 5) Remove the "lever" (part with the magnet in it) from the rest of the hinge assembly (with the exit needle on it) by turning it. 6) Put the spring back in the top of the hinge assembly and put the top part of the hinge back into place, then carefully put the bottom part of the hinge back into its proper place. 7) Ensure the exit needle is still in its proper place (so that it pierces the k-cups) and that it will move back and forth as it should. The lever (magnet) should also be free moving and not attached to the rest of the hinge. 8) To be sure, I taped the lever (magnet) in the forward (away from the Keurig) position. 9) Enjoy your coffee any way you like as the video shows above! :) If enough people want to see a video on this, I can make one at some point... feel free to reply to this comment and I can get a head count, so to speak.
Since I understand the first limitation (the DRM-like limitation to only licensed Keurig cups) what’s the reason behind this limitation? Do they plan to sell an additional “all choices” module for 100 bucks simply being a piece of plastic containing a tiny magnet?
With the magnet Hack do you still need to tape the foil top of a old Kcup to fool the sensor pick up? Has anyone tried to delete the sensor? and complete the wire circuit without that sensor? a switch would be nice to go between the modes Kcup/Kcarafe
Gary West Yes. You need the first hack to fool the color sensor before the magnet hack will work.Whatever is recommended should be easy so mass adoption will likely occur. Disassembling the Keurig 2.0 and bypassing the sensors with switches and soldering is probably beyond what most people are willing to do. If you are successful, please do share with us. Good luck!
This is a super old comment, but in case people are wondering: I haven't looked myself, but there's probably a reed switch on the mainboard to sense the effect of a magnet to unlock this menu. Perhaps there is/was an option for places like coffee shops to order a special Keurig with a magnet built in to unlock this menu for businesses?
Ours just started doing that on it's own after we had it for a couple of years. My wife and I were confused and wondered if the 2.0 Keurig was wifi updated.
Keurig should be jumping for joy at this hack. They should post the link on the side of the box, and start an add campaign with the hack on billboards, TV slots during the Superbowl, etc. They will sell far more units and eliminate the bad press while laughing to the bank....
I just did the pull the machine apart and unplug the green wire trick from the connector to the board. This allows me to use any k cup, branded or not.
I bought an N52 neodymium (rare earth) magnet for $1 on eBay. I took out the cup holder, dropped the magnet into the space in the front housing, then put the cup holder back in. Voila! I have access to the full menu. Really like being able to do a 14 oz. cup with Starbuck's k-cups as I don't care for coffee to be that strong.
+Incenerater The reason this works is because the larger Kuerig cup slides that little lever down at the bottom. Inside is a magnet. So basically all your doing is fooling the computer into thinking that it has a larger K cup in the unit which throws it into a different mode specifically for that. Another bonus to doing this is it will allow you to use your own coffee and use the auto on to make coffee
Wish I would of found your hack….before I hot-wired mine like other videos show. Yours is sooo much easier and cool! I’ll use it on the next one…thanks.
technically choice 4 refers to stardard vue pack size choices true the short vue portion pack it is recommended under the old vue system no more than 12 oz choice 2 is for travel mug sizing 12 14 16 oz always choose for 12 ozs with choice 2 if u want a 12 oz brew or do a 2 step brew for 12 oz always check off strong using k cup freedom clip settings
Works like a charm, but I had to play with different strengths of magnets to get it to work. Be sure you use a fairly strong magnet and you shouldn't have any problems. I used a small (quarter inch diameter) one and super glued it in the slot up front. Be sure your polarity is right.
after you glue it can you still use the carafe cups? I would think you glued the magnet in the way of mechanism being able to be pushed back when the bigger cuts are used?
I have the older model and it works great. I am not convinced with this newer model. Kieurig should fix the brewing temperature on their machines and a recommemded brewing temperature on each k-cup since not all coffees are the same.
It depends on how you like your coffee. Some people, like me, drink decaf, and just like the taste / flavor of the coffee. There is also "strong", which can wring out more flavor from the K-Cup.
Just go buy an ICoffee machine and you will get to use any K-Cup you want to buy whether it is Keurig or not, it's 75 oz tank is plenty for most people and the best part is the 4 oz to 12 oz choice you have in the cup size. If you have an odd sized cup, say a 15 oz, you dial your amount by half oz and use 8 oz the first time, lift the top, turn the coffee k-cup around and close the top. It will punch another hole and you dial again 7 oz of water. You will get your 15 oz cup of coffee. It has a needle in the top that spins hot water inside the k-cup to get all the flavor out of the k-cup. By punching it twice, it re-uses the k-cup again and your flavor is extracted out again. Or, just get a 12 oz cup and dial the 12 oz. In other words, you have the choice of 17 sizes! 4oz, 41/2 oz, 5oz, 51/2 oz, etc., that way I can use any size cup I want or my guests won't put the wrong size in there and have water run over the cup into the pan below and I can use any maker's coffee.
OK am I just being stupid? I did the hack with no cup it brings up all menu options but with a cup in I only get limited options. It does me no good to be limited to 10 oz when I want to take my travel cup. I need a cup in the machine for it to make coffee
Hi Mary, I found a better fix. Basically taping the magnet to the end of the track (where it would normally sit with the carafe in place did not give me a full menu most of the time when something was in the holder (when empty always got the full menu). I figured there was just enough of an air gap caused SO.,... Instead I taped the magnet to the top head part - right to the black rectangle smooth part which houses the magnet on the top part (or magnet detector). NOW, the menu provides a full selection no matter if the holder is empty, any kind of K cup or any type of holder (as long as the mechanism can close.
Is this a certain type of magnet or will any type of magnet work? i.e. sticky backed magnetic strip, fridge magnet cut down to size. On our old Keurig we were able to brew through a Kcup more than once to get a full 20 oz mug of coffee. But with the 2.0 if you try that it puts a huge hole in the top of the Kcup and grounds & water pour out from every crevice.
I was able to access the menu thru the hack with the magnet BUT I don't understand how this would benefit anyone. I was able to choose a 14oz size thru the menu and brewed using the kcup but all it did was make a very weak undrinkable cup of coffee. Am I missing something??
Earth magnets work just fine for this application. A small one will stick to the side of the bar that moves when you put in a carafe pack. So you can brew a carafe without removing the magnet.
THANK YOU!!!! I got both work-arounds to work. I kept re-positioning the magnet by using tape to the top until it worked. My software (K300) doesn't have all the options yours did, like the favorites. But it works!
I have a K300 - but this is just a temporary set back. Only 5 months old and it's stopped brewing. This is the family's 3rd Keurig...and will be my last. None last very long. Bought a MUCH cheaper Mr Coffee, tired for farting around with all the idiosyncrasies of a Keurig.
can you explain to me why the reusable cups come in different colors. It seems like the small ones are purple or red and the larger carafe filter is orange. I understand the sensor has to read something but was curious if the color had anything to do with it. The magnet trick works on my K425. I will do that for now unti its out of warranty then I will go for the juggler and do the wire cut hack. Could you recommend a good reuseable carafe filter that will work with my K425. I also noticed on the k-cups for the carafe have a colored dot. Should that color be the color the reusable should be?
azppmd Thank you so much. My old Keurig started acting up and Keurig is sending me a 2.0 as a replacement (it should be here shortly). I almost always use my own coffee so your videos saved me!
OK, update. I managed to get it to work but now I can't make carafes anymore. Any idea how to fix that? It just won't register that there is one in there
I get the same thing using a piece of tape, 1x1 in. piece of paper coloured using a Sharpie neon yellow highlighter, benefit is it heats water 5 deg hotter.
You may have an updated, later version. At the time of the video's recording, Keurig's coffee makers had a different firmware and setup. After making this grave mistake, they have reprogrammed their current machines so this hack is even unnecessary.
I gave a th-up cause you got it to work however if you have the container in back like mine, it may not work at all. Tho mine is a hot 2.0 k200 model, I think it's older than this choice or something and what I don't understand is that it's clame on the box says that it can brew a Carafe with old instructions that don't explain anything like it.
Hi, will the magnet still fit in the slot with a Vue or K-Carafe inserted? I would imagine if the magnet was thin enough (and strong enough) it will fit - like eBay item 271283083835. Please let me know what the perfect dimension would be to fit with ANY cup in the K560 (Costco). Thanks!
Review Me, Mommy! Thank you! I shot the video in one take at around 11 PM after a long day at work. Glad you enjoyed it. Please share with your friends on Social Media. These hacks are too good not to pass along to your friends.
I have a Keurig, but I bought it for the convenience of a quick cup of coffee before work... I don't understand how people think that it does more than heat water and let it flow thru pre measured grinds in a cup.... Just like my dishwasher and washing machine, I have them all set to their normal settings,... dirty load goes in, clean load comes out. Ignore all those fancy colored circles, do you really think you can taste a difference?
Try flipping the magnet over. Magnets have polarity and it only works in one direction. I placed the magnet on the top rather than the bottom. I have a small round magnet and it sits slightly left of the center. If it's centered, it doesn't work. like this: www.idlehead.com/keurig.png
My K450 2.0 does not offer 16 oz even with the magnet. I get the 1-6 keypad and I press 2 and if offers me 12 or 14 oz. Does the 16 oz only show up on the K550 model? Thanks
Hi there, I have the K500 model which they modified to make things more difficult: firstly, it does not have an accessible hole for the toothpick idea; and secondly, the swivel is also connected to the puncture tooth for the bottom of the K-cups, so moving the carafe mechanism permanently back would not provide bottom puncturing. However it was the genesis of combining that idea with a separate magnet idea in another thread that solved my dilemma. What your are doing with the toothpick is permanently moving the magnet (small square block) already in the Keurig to the end of the its track which then magnetically opens a circuit that allows for the full menu (if using a visual sensor friendly K cup). So I took apart the swivel mechanism to allow me to hacksaw off the square block and voila have my own magnet of right size - which I taped to the end of the track. Since part of the problem is removing the OOPS part of the problem I used another hack, cutting the green wire, which disables the sensor altogether - and now I can use any K-cup and have a full menu. Even without any cup in the hole, I get the full menu. :-)The only tricky part was re-assembling the swivel due to a spring at the bottom. The small end of the spring goes bottom first in the short groove, whilst the long end has to be bent around the bottom thick shell under a tab so that the puncture tooth is on the inside.
Want to add that the magnet taped down to the end of the track (where it would normally sit with the carafe in place) did not work very well with kcups or brew your own plastic containers but always showed the full menu when the holder was empty. I am thinking there was just enough of an air gap to cause issues. Anyway I solved it by taping the magnet instead to the upper part directly right against the smooth black rectangular part housing the upper half magnet (or magnet detecting device) and NOW I get the full menu regardless!!
Can someone explain the 2-6 brew settings? I used my Keurig "My K Cup" today for the first time. I wasn't brewing a carafe, so I knew not to select option 1. But I was confused, what are 2-6 for? How are they different from one another? The instructions do not help.
#1 is for the obvious carafe, #2 is for travel-sized vue pack for well, travel mugs. it also has the *strong* option, #3 is for "over-the-ice" vue pack for travel mugs (wide guess on this one), #4 is for regular coffee/espresso brew, as it has the *strong* option and the 4oz size for espresso, #5 is for the frothing 2-step vue packs, #6 is for regular coffee type (minimum size is 6oz). the difference should be the way and rate it dispenses the water. It also should, depending which setting you take, say Strong Enabled vs Not Enabled, change how it finishes the brew cycle. eg. More force of steamed air when strong is enabled (to push every last drop of coffee out) vs less with it disabled.
Sammy Morini Thanks sam! So it appears that #4 and #6 are very similar, at least for using ground coffee to brew a normal cup of a coffee with the My K Cup adapter. I haven't tried a travel mug yet but I probably will this winter.
Blaine Bugaski no problem! and yup, they pretty much are similar! personally i use #4 just cause i like having the Strong option enabled lol :P i have yet to try the other options, but i might try the travel mug one soon just to test out how strong the coffee ends up being haha. :)
Sammy Morini I recently bought a freedom clip on ebay for about $4. Although I don't have any non-Keurig approved K cups for brewing, it does give you full brew settings without having a K cup inserted, so it appears to work. I recently bought a 96 pack of Beantown K Cups for $44. Not a bad deal. But they don't need the freedom clip to work, as they are compatible with Keurig 2.0. Can't beat the price of $0.46 per k cup.
Hi azppmd great post on both of your videos! I am having an issue with he magnet hack on my K550.. I did though find a way to actually prop open the bottom piece of the cradle that the larger Kcup would depress and no luck with the multiple menus... ( I am using the hack for the Kcup without the green circle on the foil.)
Just got a K450 and the magnet hack (alone) didn't work. I tried a few different magnets (ceramic, neodymium) and positioned a bunch of ways, but nothing. What I ended up doing - I took a green dot from a carafe KCup, stuck it to a Freedom Clip (over the orange dot), and used a ceramic magnet to get this to work. My guess is newer models now require both options for it to work.
I was going to write on here that this wasn't working for me. Then I read the comments, you have to do the steps in the first video. Thank you so much for your help!
I taped the magnet to the top so I never have to worry about it. Now I can put regular k cups or the k carafe cups in without ever having to remove the magnet. :)
Carl VanderLaan Where did you tape the magnet. I have the K560, taped half ring where the reader is and that is working fine. I tried the magnet different size rotating and nothing. I have earth magnets and regular magnets... nothing. Hoping if you can take a shot of where you taped your magnet, that might work for me.
Melanie Polack The magnet goes on the plastic lip right above where the video shows to place it. See the image here: carlvanderlaan.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/KeurigHack.jpg
Carl VanderLaan Great pic, thank you. Just tried it flipping an earth magnet both ways and only once did I get anything and that was the KCup is not supported. That was odd since I have the reader hack with the "half" qualifying kcup lid taped under the reader. As soon as I remove the magnet I get a successful "Brew" screen with even nothing sitting in the kcup slot. I never got the Carafe/Vue menu. I having only the "half" the rim matters as it is taped under the reader directly and the other side does not have a reader.
Howard Polack That's strange. The only menu I get it the Carafe/Vue. I just used a standard refrigerator magnet. I do know that last week we removed everything that was taped because our Keurig was taking FOREVER to make one cup. Then when taping everything back up, I had to play with the position of the magnet for about 5 minutes. Once you find it and tape it you'll always get the Carafe/Vue menu. We have the K400 model.
I am late to this as everyone can see. I purchased the K450 knowing that I would have to do the hacks. My question; Is the 16 oz not available on menu 2 using the magnet hack? All I have is the 12 and 14 oz options. Some on here show the 16 oz as well as dose this video. Thanks for any suggestions!
Joliane Landry K-Cups inside the K-Carafe is an interesting concept, but I think you will end up with a HUGE mess if you try it. They are very different physically and in the way they brew. I would NOT recommend that you put a K-Cup in an empty K-Carafe cup to fool the system.
I have bought different refillable pods for the carafe and they wont work. I need one for the Keurig 2.0, K425 plus series. They will say they work with the 2.0 but they won’t. I hope this hack will work for me. If not, do you know which refillable coffee holder will work??? Thx
Okay, I got a perfect sized magnet and after trying to position it a couple of times, I was able to get the menu with all the choices to come up after fiddling around with this for about 10 minutes. I market the position of the magnet including the side that was up so I would get the polarity of the magnet right the next time. However, I discovered that this was a real hit and miss hack. Even when I positioned the magnet exactly the same way it was when it worked, it didn't work 90% of the time. Very annoying. Then I got an idea. I pulled the spring loaded part back that has the built in magnet that recognizes when the carafe is in place, put some painter's tape to hold it back, and volia! It worked perfectly every time. You don't need to buy or find a magnet here, just pull back the built in magnet, tape it back so it stays there and you have the fix.
OK I taped a orange guitar pick to the left side of my refillable coffee filter (Refill-able filter is a red plastic the red plastic gives me a Opp's error) with the Tywrap holding it into K-carafe mode, and Orange plastic Guitar pick it unlocked all modes, so you dont have to use the Keurig foil top from any of the K-cups or K-Carafe's I'll bet a colored plastic over the refillable coffee would also work
I bought a reusable k cup pod from Target and it has a built in magnet to get all the settings you showed. Made by eco carafe
Donald Lane So glad to hear. Thank you for your input.
New Keurig makers don't require this hack. Keurig learned their lesson.
I looked silly sticking refrigerator magnets to the keurig. But my third try worked! So happy I'm not limited to 10 ounces. Thank you!
Thank you!!!! I have resisted buying a Keurig for years due to cost of coffee (when one has 6 cups a day, that adds up quickly). when I saw they have this model, and especially with your remedy for limited us, I had to sign up for a UA-cam account just to thank you!!
Sophie Boonton
I so appreciate you taking the time and effort to write your note! Please share with your friends and folks on Social Media regarding these hacks. Thank you!
Mine have the option to go to setting and change it to any size.. I bought is at goodwill by he way. It was very clean too
You can also buy the K-Carafe size re-usable filter to use that menu and fill your cup.
@ 3:30 you closed the lid and without a pod in or the magnet hack in place, the brew menu popped up as if there was a pod in there. How is that?
And yes, I had to snap the pivot thing that runs in the track to the needle contraption. So this is a permanent hack.
Chris Chase
right I meant that you cannot use the karaf the way I did it, I did not snap the pivot piece off, and still get the full menu but the big cup does not fit, because as the needle arm retracts the pivot tab get in the way, I guess I can break it off too, it really doesn't harm anything.
The headaches are over - enjoy everybody!:

it doesn't make sense to me why Keurig wouldn't just give people this option, so frustrating!!!
uh...freakin money, and who knows...remember any electrical device not matter how safe in America still must pass the Underwriter's Laboratory for safety before being sold to the public...but pass all of that...freakin money!!!
They did, in the older models. Which is why I have an older model.
+LadyPashta That was because they had a patent on the cup design, so others couldn't legally make cups.
That patent expired, so they switched to technical controls.
Kate Gray What? I think you're confused. Keurig is being greedy and evil by doing this. That's the truth.
not all older models do this
Probably the first comment I’ve ever posted, but this DOES WORK I had a needle error even after a extensive cleaning. This title trick over road It, and it works great now
So great to hear!
Dima Prok where the heck is the optical sensor??
Daniel Fior it's on the upper part, on left side of piercing needle. My mod still working great.
Dima Prok we just bought a machine tonight. What do you mean you cut a top ring, what is that?
***** Top ring from the original K-cup. Use a sharp blade.
azppmd i just watched a different keurig 2.0 hack video and you can unlock the menu with by cutting off the top of a karaft cup and putting it on vue cup.
Nathanial Benton
Nicely done! Thank you for sharing this tip!
Good tip, this should be a sticky at the top of page....
any suggestions are where to buy from the internet? Amazon had some but for some reason when going to checkout it said they can't deliver this item to my area... strange... so I went elsewhere and it looks that most are coming internationally and could take weeks... I am looking for some ASAP... also, as far as size... I got the 1.5 mm but will Rare Earth Super Magnets 1/8 x 1/16 in. (3x1.5mm) (x50) work?
Nathanial - what is the size if your magnet? Many sizes are available on eBay like this listing: 261659481346
This is for both types (craft or cup) and will trigger the same menu.
has anyone figured out how to change the temp of the water its dispensing? I find its not that hot.
Yeah it's probably an internal issue. Return it, get your money back, and spend it on something that will actually works. fk THIS George Jetson bullshit
I know this is late, but if you drink coffee with milk/cream, try heating it up.
There is a water temp setting in the menu of mine. It isn't specific but rather a bar graph style +/-
The ONLY hacks I've found online that work with the brand new (I got it on 9/11/15) K250 (read "K250 model") 2.0 Keurig machine are cutting the top off of a Keurig disposable K-Cup, then cutting it in half and attaching it the left-hand side of the top of a reusable K-Cup (I bought a "Brew & Save" brand reusable K-Cup at Walmart.
I also used a Basil leave from a in door basil plant, it allowed me into a single KCup like mode number 4, that was weird, but i am just playing to see what works that I already have, the Guitar pick is fool proof, and will last a VERY LONG TIME
above and beyond cinamogrfy
+Trent Brashier indeed they do but be aware they are very strong and can snap your fingers..... ask me how I know...
How do you empty the internal water supply for coffee machine storage
Here's what I did:
1) Cut and tape a carafe pod foil under the sensor (back>left corner).
If enough people want to see a video on this, I can make one at some point... feel free to reply to this comment and I can get a head count, so to speak.
Video is now up on my channel... ua-cam.com/video/5odYkCSTI5c/v-deo.html
Good luck!
best yet
The magnet trick didn't work, my machine only shows 4 or 6 oz options. Do you have a fix that actually works? Thanks
Good job, man. Can't wait for someone to reprogram these things through their data port.
Does the magnet need to be that strong to work? Would cutting the appropriate size from a business magnet that you stick on a refrigerator work?
Wow. You are bright, I have never seen this menu 😀 Happy coffee drinking to you, too!
What exactly does the magnet do? Why don' they just give those options out of the box?
This is a super old comment, but in case people are wondering: I haven't looked myself, but there's probably a reed switch on the mainboard to sense the effect of a magnet to unlock this menu. Perhaps there is/was an option for places like coffee shops to order a special Keurig with a magnet built in to unlock this menu for businesses?
Thanks, it works now. The only thing I don't have is the favorites selection, but I am happy with what I got
Ours just started doing that on it's own after we had it for a couple of years. My wife and I were confused and wondered if the 2.0 Keurig was wifi updated.
So far so good. Genius!! Any idea what the colours are going to signify yet? Yellow and Purple obviously already in use. Green? Brown? Blue?
Keurig should be jumping for joy at this hack. They should post the link on the side of the box, and start an add campaign with the hack on billboards, TV slots during the Superbowl, etc. They will sell far more units and eliminate the bad press while laughing to the bank....
I just did the pull the machine apart and unplug the green wire trick from the connector to the board. This allows me to use any k cup, branded or not.
hi i would like to try this hack. but i cant seem to locate the area where to put the magnet. thankssss give me a guide plsss
I'm confused. Why would you need to hack the thing to get a menu that seems like it would be standard?
Incenerater ...because Keurig made a monumental strategic mistake.
+Incenerater The menu is only for certain types of cups. The new Vue cups are designed to have more types available.
The My Cup pod also unlocks the same options for travel mug and carafe brewing.
Placing a magnet did get the extra menu. However there isn't a favorites option. K525. I have pictures but can't add here
THIS HACK AND THE FREEDOM CLIP DOES NOT WORK ON THE NEW TECHNOLOGY RE; 525C PLUS. I WISH SOMEONE CAN FIND A HACK FOR THAT
Works like a charm, but I had to play with different strengths of magnets to get it to work.
I doubt you can use the carafe cups unless your magnet is pretty thin. Haven't tried it.
I have the older model and it works great. I am not convinced with this newer model. Kieurig should fix the brewing temperature on their machines and a recommemded brewing temperature on each k-cup since not all coffees are the same.
scuttlebutt I hear the 2.0 defaults to 197 degrees for k carafe vue packs 192 k cups
Wouldn't the coffee be weak as shit though brewing 16 ounces of coffee just out of 1 k cup?
It depends on how you like your coffee. Some people, like me, drink decaf, and just like the taste / flavor of the coffee. There is also "strong", which can wring out more flavor from the K-Cup.
This seems like an awesome hack - thank you! What should the approximate size of the magnet be?
I need a cup in the machine for it to make coffee
same here Mary Roth......
+knicks1met say you want a larger amount of hot water for a tea or a lighter cup of coffee or tea
thanks for this tip. this is the best youtube video i've seen yet for the keurig 2.0!
Earth magnets work just fine for this application. A small one will stick to the side of the bar that moves when you put in a carafe pack. So you can brew a carafe without removing the magnet.
Like what? Will a 3mm x 1.5mm N35 grade do the job?
THANK YOU!!!! I got both work-arounds to work. I kept re-positioning the magnet by using tape to the top until it worked. My software (K300) doesn't have all the options yours did, like the favorites. But it works!
doesn't work on newer 2.0 units. Even the plastic housing where you placed the magnet is molded differently.
What? Looks like I have to figure out another way to hack that new system.
Do you have a model number to share with us?
+azppmd no model number just newer 2.0 I can try to take a pic....
+Ed Ferber The green wire hack still should work.
can you explain to me why the reusable cups come in different colors.
A piece of tape to hold the pod compartment in the carafe pod mode works also.
So if I'm understanding correctly, this needs to be used in conjunction with taping a cut out lid to the lid sensor?
Nathanial Benton
YES. You need to implement the initial "permanent hack" I have outlined in the other video FIRST.
azppmd Thank you so much.
How did you get the heart next to the power button? I have the 2.0 but I’m seeing that option lol
Tho mine is a hot 2.0 k200 model, I think it's older than this choice or something and what I don't understand is that it's clame on the box says that it can brew a Carafe with old instructions that don't explain anything like it.
which model did you use this on? I want one with a carafe, and the single cup. Was thinking the K560?
Can someone please explain to me why mine only worked twice and then stopped giving me the menu choices????
Hi, will the magnet still fit in the slot with a Vue or K-Carafe inserted? I would imagine if the magnet was thin enough (and strong enough) it will fit - like eBay item 271283083835. Please let me know what the perfect dimension would be to fit with ANY cup in the K560 (Costco). Thanks!
lol I just want to say I absolutely LOVE your tone in this video its so epic "you can you your cup....and get a brewww"
Review Me, Mommy!
Thank you! I shot the video in one take at around 11 PM after a long day at work. Glad you enjoyed it. Please share with your friends on Social Media. These hacks are too good not to pass along to your friends.
This is great! Thanks so much - now my Sumatra K-cup at 16 oz. tastes great and gives me 1.6 amount of what I was getting before. Thanks!
I have the original hack working great! Thanks. I cannot get the magnet hack to bring up hidden menu. Any ideas?
Try flipping the magnet over. Magnets have polarity and it only works in one direction. I placed the magnet on the top rather than the bottom. I have a small round magnet and it sits slightly left of the center. If it's centered, it doesn't work.

#1 is for the obvious carafe,
#2 is for travel-sized vue pack for well, travel mugs. it also has the *strong* option,
#3 is for "over-the-ice" vue pack for travel mugs (wide guess on this one),
#4 is for regular coffee/espresso brew, as it has the *strong* option and the 4oz size for espresso,
#5 is for the frothing 2-step vue packs,
#6 is for regular coffee type (minimum size is 6oz).
the difference should be the way and rate it dispenses the water.
Blaine Bugaski no problem! and yup, they pretty much are similar! personally i use #4 just cause i like having the Strong option enabled lol :P
i have yet to try the other options, but i might try the travel mug one soon just to test out how strong the coffee ends up being haha.
Blaine Bugaski haha yea that's pretty sweet! awesome :)
Awesome!
I have a question how do I get me Keurig to brew cold instead of hot? It's new and it's not working. I'm not happy about that at all.
I guess it depends on which 2.0 you have , it didn't work for me and I have version k200
It seems that the K2V-Cup For Keurig VUE will also serve the same purpose as the magnet option for the Keurig 2.0 - is that true??? Thanks much...
How about putting a regular K-cup inside an empty K-carafe cup? Will it do the same?
Joliane Landry
K-Cups inside the K-Carafe is an interesting concept, but I think you will end up with a HUGE mess if you try it. They are very different physically and in the way they brew. I would NOT recommend that you put a K-Cup in an empty K-Carafe cup to fool the system.
I did the magnet and it works but when I brew coffee cup spews coffee grains everywhere any reason why ?
Without the hacks, will this not brew plain hot water like the old styles? (without a cup inserted?)
yeah, you can get water
Sorry if my question is very "dumb", but from watching this video, does it mean that this hack allows a k-cup machine to use both vue cups and k-cups?
like can you use vue cups in k-cup keurigs now? and if so, will it be the same?
Didn't work for a Carafe reusable k-cup pod on a Keurig 2.0 K250
That is what I have;. Returned it to the store.
I have bought different refillable pods for the carafe and they wont work. I need one for the Keurig 2.0, K425 plus series. They will say they work with the 2.0 but they won’t. I hope this hack will work for me. If not, do you know which refillable coffee holder will work??? Thx
Awesome! Both hacks worked great! I can now just make 5 cups of hot water in a snap!!!
mine switches to vue cup menu without magnet (with old vue cups & k cup ring)
Stephen Fulner This hack is to allow users of K-Cups access to the full menu. Vue-Cups (and K-Carafes) automatically give you the full menu!
can somebody tell me why the colored numbers on my machine or not colored
+TheGreatBlackPantom Do you have the K300? It has a black and white screen
I just pull it back then load my coffee in the Keurig k cup brand and I get that menu every time no mods needed.
Will this menu hack work with the K300? I have tried and cant get the menu to pull up but, might be to small of a magnet?
OK I taped a orange guitar pick to the left side of my refillable coffee filter (Refill-able filter is a red plastic the red plastic gives me a Opp's error) with the Tywrap holding it into K-carafe mode, and Orange plastic Guitar pick it unlocked all modes, so you dont have to use the Keurig foil top from any of the K-cups or K-Carafe's I'll bet a colored plastic over the refillable coffee would also work
