As someone who lives in Wyoming, it never ceases to amaze me that Rhode Island, which is significantly smaller than Wyoming, had like… twice the population.

In 6th grade I was taught that Wyoming was a Delaware Indian word for something like "large plains". That valley in Pennsylvania was what they were referring to at the time. I am not certain how the state of Wyoming adopted it but of course it's easy to see why.
