Thank you for this. I love the crinkle too! I like how easy this is! And no going to the kitchen. I was impressed with how fast the heat gun dries the paper.
Thank you Judi! I thought about it, but because it's on the shiny waterproof side, the colors come right off. I sprayed it with water and dyed a few more papers. LOL!
Andrea, I know...right??? This method has changed me dreading "coffee dying day" into...ok...how many can I get done now and looking around for more to dye! LOL!
I wouldn't call it a "Lazy Way to Coffee Dye Papers". Say "Smart, Easy and Faster Way to Coffee Dye Papers". So clever. I didn't want to use my oven to dry the papers either and letting them sit to dry or hang to dry takes space which I don't have. And your spritzer bottles you can use diluted food coloring, or different green teas, or whatever else to dye with. Very clever Ronda. Thank you for the information. Going to start right away!!
Looks good. I spray mine usually too. But have a "paper dye station" in my sunroom. (That's sad!!) Junk journal crafters go to all lengths. But are the friendlyiest group of people I've ever known!! I have a shelf thing in there I dry my papers on. The heat gun could really help if you need paper dried faster. Without standing in kitchen for an hour. Nice video!!! I've never seen your videos before. I will Like & Subscribe. Thanks for sharing, Austin, TX USA
Welcome to my channel Barbara! I'm so happy you're joining me...I hope you will find lots of fun videos by looking at my playlists and video titles...happy paper dying...the easy way...lol!
You do it pretty much the same way I do only I use a wooden cutting board and paper towel for clean up. Walmart also has the nonspray containers that allow you to just dump your dying product right onto several sheets at once. Btw I use just a regular hair dryer on low cool to dr them quickly. Next I'm trying food coloring n water!😊
Great ideas. I've just recently learned how to put the papers into my junk journal covers. I will have to use your method in my journals I've got six covers ready for signatures right now. Two of them are for my great grandsons using boxes from toys that they love. Have to go get the papers and things like coloring books ECT to fill them up. They are for birthday gifts.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING....I LOVED THE PAPER YOU HAD DOWN TO WORK ON, I COULD SEE LOTS OF DELICIOUS THINGS ON THAT....MAYBE YOU COULDNT REPEAT THAT...WAS LOVELY....LIKED THE SHINE YOU GOT ON YOUR BAGS......CAMILLE AUSTRALIA
So glad it will work for you Simonne! I usually wait until I have virtually NO dyed papers left before I can bring myself to go downstairs into the kitchen and bake papers! This sure has helped me!
Welcome Kathleen!! I'm so happy you found my channel...as I'm still in the thick of organizing things in our new home and studio, my Etsy store is limited right now...soon...psst (may I say I dislike moving??) LOL...
I too have spray dyed my papers but did not get that lovely mottling effect. I think that may be due to the freezer paper. Will have to give that a try. Thanks for the crinkle crinkle effects - it’s a beautiful sound!
Thanks Ronda I love the look of your technique.. They all turned out great. Its finally Sunny here in Calif. I might have to do this today spread out on my porch. Have a Crafty Day~ Roxanne
Was happy to see this video because I have been doing this ‘lazy way’ to stain my papers for a couple of years. The only difference for me has been in using my microwave instead of a heat tool. I have used all types of papers and color of dye sprays. When using the microwave (it’s a low-watt, small one I have in my studio), I put 1-2 papers in at a time. Parchment and other heavy paper I put in at 1 minute one side, turn over and 1 minute more. If still wet I will do 30 sec or less at a time. Be careful and time this process because it can scorch. Thinner and more delicate papers I start with 30 second intervals. You’ll have to experiment a little to learn the timing of each paper you use. But, using the microwave is even easier than using a heat tool. The prep that Ronda has used here is the same as I use: coffee or tea already made, a spray bottle and protected surface. I microwave 1-2 8 1/2” x 11” parchment papers at a time. I do microwave smaller bits, but I can get two papers done in short time. I do about 6- 10 pages in each dying session. It goes so fast and easy that I can do a batch every day, if I want too! Okay, well, Rhonda, thank you for the video. I wondered why more crafters didn’t share this ‘cooking’ method (even in using the heat gun). Happy to see your tip for paper staining!
Some of us just must be late-comers to the party GJ! LOL! My studio isn't large enough to accommodate using a microwave...and it takes less than a minute to finish both sides of my papers with the heat gun, so I'm satisfied. Thanks for sharing your way of drying your papers...sounds like you've got a system that works really well for you!! I appreciate your comments and wish you a great day with creating lovely things in your studio! :)
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have avoided making coffee stained paper because of the complexity and oven and mess. This is what I have wondered about. Do you think it could be air dried instead?
If you're asking about the corner edging on my cards and such, that's a punch I bought in Michael's or Joann's...can't remember which as it's been several years ago. Hugs!!
Wear a dust mask when spraying coffee. Inhaling coffee droplets can make you sick and overdose you on caffeine. I dry coffee paper on our glass topped patio tables. They dry fast even in winter. No oven or hair dryer needed at all!
Thank you Ronda, great tutorial! I have an important question though. Is your printer a laser or inkjet printer? I have an inkjet and I know that dyeing paper already printed with an laser printer won't make the 'ink' run, but will it make inkjet run and smear? If I dye the paper first and iron it, do you have any idea if the paper will still go thru a printer to be printed on AFTER it's dyed and dried and ironed?
I do have an Inkjet printer...for my printing, I usually print and then dye and I like the messier look, but I'm really just usually printing lines for writing so fading on them just adds to the charm. I have sometimes done as you are suggesting, but it can be tricky. You have to feed the paper in really carefully as it's a bit wavy even with ironing, but if you're careful it should work. Good luck!!
@@RondaWinsteadRondawithoutanH Thank you Ronda without the h :) I thought it would smear much worse than what you're getting so I will keep that in mind for things that could use the charm. I'll experiment with ironing tho I had hoped to leave all ironing behind when I retired, LOL. Thanks again, hon!
LOL! I grew up ironing sheets and pillow cases, shirts, skirts, etc. Mom had an ironrite for the sheets and we had two HUGE (to my young eyes) drawers full of laundry needing to be ironed! Ironing paper is fun girlfriend!!
I don't...I do add rubbing alcohol to mine which makes it dry faster...about 1/3 water to 2/3 alcohol...to anticipate your question...have a great day!!
I originally learned about the easter egg dyes from Rosemary Frias...here is her UA-cam Channel where she discusses them and where she purchased them...the upshot is...if the dye call for vinegar, add it...I used a small amount of boiling water to mix the dyes up and then added rubbing alcohol, as it dries faster than water. ua-cam.com/video/GB1AVDhYzMU/v-deo.html
Why or why do we LOVE that crinkly sound so much! Such a lovely sound!
I don't know why Robin, but we do love the sound of crinkly papers!!!

It sure makes easy work out of what for me was a chore before!
Love that grungy
Thank you Sherry!
Love the look of your freezer paper. I would use that for a cover!
Thank you Judi! I thought about it, but because it's on the shiny waterproof side, the colors come right off. I sprayed it with water and dyed a few more papers. LOL!
Exactly what I was thinking!!
I don't know anyone who enjoys crinkly paper more than you. Great, informative video!
LOL Gayle!! Yes, I do love crinkly papers!! I'm not sure if it's a curse or a blessing...thanks for watching!
That’s a great way to do it. One minute drying time is not bad. Tfs. Congrats on the Etsy store! Hugs & blessings, Lenneke
Thank you Lenneke! I'm all about making paper dying easier...psssttt...don't tell anyone, but it's one of my least favorite things to do...
I really like your method. I was ooing and awing over the patterns created on your freezer paper background. Those would look nice in a journal too.

Hi can you say what the pink colour is please
I bought easter egg dyes a couple of years ago, and it's from those. I'm sorry I can't give your better information.
@@RondaWinsteadRondawithoutanH Hi that's ok so it's food dye perfect 😀
Just coffee? Do we need to add vinegar?
I don't...I do add rubbing alcohol to mine which makes it dry faster...about 1/3 water to 2/3 alcohol...to anticipate your question...have a great day!!
Did you add vinegar to the egg dyes?
Judi Gullett-BitsysBaubles X - that's a great question. I just assumed the vinegar was for the eggs..can't wait to see her reply to you.
