    1.) Istanbul Xist

Thanks for doing this guys! I love splashes can’t have enough of them. I thought these were good choices although there were a few where the sustain was just too short and would not cut through the mix. One splash that I think was missing was the Paiste PSTX 10 inch Swiss splash. Absolutely love that little guy.

K Special Dry was my personal favorite out of these, though I will say that for a cymbal that is significantly less expensive than the other ones, the Wuhan sounds surprisingly good to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting it is as good as the K, but it's also a lot less expensive, so that's a consideration in some cases. To me, the fairly new HHX Complex sound cool with initial attack, but just a bit too 'ringy' at the decay for my tastes. Great comparison regardless in that it gave me that kind of detailed info about a diverse group of makers/models... nice!

In this test, it's the Paiste Signature for me; to my ears the most musical sounding and with a slightly longer sustain than most. Nice...
I was also pleasantly surprised and impressed by the Dream Bliss. Not a brand I know much about, but on the basis of this clip, certainly an option!
By the way, back in the 70-ies, when I was shopping for my first ever cymbals, the old and wise proprietor of my local music shop told me to ALWAYS buy cymbals with my ears, never with my eyes... meaning you can lust after that Zildjan K ride on the basis of previous experiences, your fave drummers using same, firends' opinions, etc, but it is NOT guaranteed that when you finally purchase one, you get the best ride available. Cymbals are fickle when it comes to how they end up sounding even when coming off a highly automated and accurate production line... So ALWAYS go to your music shop, close your eyes and LISTEN. Buy the one that speaks to you most, not the one you told yourself to get beforehand! The well known drummmers who truly care about their sound more than their endorsement paychecks, always seem to have a motley collection of cymbals, rather than a full house of the line of cymbals they get paid to play on...
    Just saying folks....

I think for me it was between the Wuhan and the Bliss, probably favouring the Wuhan with the slightly lower tone and even sort of decay. I'm considering a new splash for my cajon set up and wondering how these may respond by being played by hands rather than sticks...

10 inch Meinl dual splash and 6 and 8 inch Meinl traditional splashes are my favorites everrrrrrrrr

I have the Meinl Dual - let Kenny Grohowski use it at a Brand X gig - he really liked it. It's my favorite cymbal. I also favor the Sabian Aero for a less trashy sound and there are a number of others I like for a traditional splash like the Sabian 7" evolution. I like the Sabian Aero or the other one that is like it on top of a Sabian mini china as a stack. A "holey" type cymbal on top of a Wuhan china always makes a good stack if you're saving money.

That’s Zildjian for ya. Gotta fork up some extra money for extra quality
Edit: I actually like the A-Custom EFX more

Zildjian is pretty much garbage nowadays. No hand hammering, and the rare ability to make B20 bronze sound like shit. They just live off their name, just like Gibson and Apple

@@nocomment3600 I've never been impressed with a cymbal made by Zildjian, and I've tried out almost every cymbal made by them, as music stores are overstocked with Zildjian products. The Sabians that were stocked, sounded much better to my ear, and what little Paistes were in stock, held their own, to say the least. The few Meinl cymbals I've ever tried out in person, were nothing short of mind blowingly impressive, especially the Byzance series. But back to the main point, Zildjian does not live up to their hype. Zildjian has become some sort of cultural thing amongst drummers, and you're not "cool" if you don't play Zildjian. The same way Apple fans treat non Apple products. "it's alright, but it's not Zildjian." If I had a dollar for the amount of times I've heard drummers say that line when talking about cymbals not made by Zildjian, I'd have enough money to buy the company

I have a handful of splashes, a few A customs and A’s, and a couple 10” Meinls, an Extra Dry and a Vintage trash, they sound amazing incorporated to a fill or on their own but get totally drowned out otherwise, whereas the Zildjian are less pleasing on their own but are far more prominent and sit above the mix. I like having both styles on the kit but I’d like to find one that achieves both.

I have used three cymbals; 10" Paiste 602 Modern Essentials Splash, 10" Sabian AAX Air Splash, and 10" Meinl Byzance Dual Splash now.
    Strength
602: Warm but enough power sound in spite of Paiste famous for Rock and Metal.
Air: Enough trash sound between O-zone and Aero series.
Dual: Special and unique looking cymbal, but not strange and awkward. Especially great combi when drummer play Cajon or Djembe better than Candela Splash.

Which one would be good to be played by hand (as percussionist)? Shouldn't sound like a gong.... Thank you so much!

A Custom FX and Paiste Masters by themselves, but Istambul XIST ION and Sabian AAX Aero to try with a mini china or a Trashformer to make some sick stacks

Masters Dark was my fave then the Byzance dark but both are pricey so I will keep my cheap but quality stagg furia for bright tones and stagg black metal for dark tones.

I’m a die hard paiste guy, but that meinl dual splash was unreal. Surprised there were no dark energy splashes too, I have a pair and love them, but I know there definitely one of the more popular splashes out there.

I'm also a Paiste guy, but a while back I was about to pull the trigger on a Meinl Byzance brilliant splash, they just seemed to have the perfect tone for me. Then I discovered the dark energy splashes (which incidentally sound VERY similar to the byzance) and I ended up getting the 8" and 10". My absolute favourites!

I jammed with a Nicole Mcbrain worshiper drummer 30 years ago. He was all about Tama Drums and Paiste symbols.
In this video, I could see putting three or four splashes in one set-up because I'm just so surprised how they can all sound so different from each other.

I find that splash cymbals are a lot more musical than they used to be from years gone by. That said, they have a difficult time cutting through the mix in a live situation. I feel missing from the list, is the Paiste PST8 10 inch Swiss. It’s a great little trashy guy.
