I used to love this on Amiga but getting a copy was hard - always full of viruses (I was a kid, no money to buy the thing!). Still playing this on the Megadrive to this day, a very under-rated game.
Cannon Fodder, Sensible Soccer and this gem Mega lo Mania! Sensible Software and the British Gaming Industry in general thank you so much! I love the music from Richard Joseph, the gameplay theme seems to be inspired by Gustav Holst - The Planets - Mars, the Bringer of War.
I've been playing the Megadrive version today, its great! You'd think the lack of a mouse may hinder it but the way the buttons are mapped are "ergonomically terrific!" (oh dear..). It was well worth grabbing though - no messing about with loading or crashing of dodgey copies and its pretty much a spot on conversion.
Aww man this is the godfather of all strategy games, very addictive, good GFX, great sound (loved the speech comments) but this game was challenging & has good elements to make this one of they best games on the Amiga, I still play it today!
45:50 Oh yes, the series of famous battles of Karma, 1915AD, when the mad Lord Madcap attacked his enemies with biplanes and - for some reason - medieval catapults and longbows. ;-)
I have played Mega lo Mania on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive & Super Nintendo. Event though I have played this only a couple of times, I find this game to be pretty fun. To me this is one of those games, where I will spend with it way more than a hour if I get into it. Also if anyone asks, I've always pick the red lady Scarlet for obvious reason. :D
I just played some Mega lo Mania clone last week and I was missing the epicness of the Amiga version. Our family used to own Amiga 500 when it was hot ;P.
@somerandompolishdude no point criticizing the playstyle, and I think the tech research is meant to show what you can do with each level. I didn't do this longplay so I can't say for sure but considering a lot of the other longplays I've seen on this channel I'd say there's a good chance he was going to show off more of the game.
@SaittaMicus Enemy choices in position and such are fixed by who you choose. Also the final stage changes based on your starter. Scarlet doesn't have to fight anyone in Megalomania, Madcap has to fight all three.
i used to play this game soooo much!! great game, i even bought the genesis version so i wouldnt have to use disks,,, it is rare, and cost me a bit,, i used to play the green player, cause i always play green on every game i play,,,,, TOWER CRITICAL,, ITS ALL OVER!!!!
Before you place your people to start the map, hold down left click and keep holding it. Hover where you want to place them and immediately rush the mouse to the down arrow to reduce the number. You have the placed number in game but you only used up the number you managed to reduce it to.
I still remember playing this as a kid and grabbing an encyclopedia to figure out just what it was I was apparently mining, how little I knew! Maamite, Moron, Tedium....
I remember a little cheat for this. You put loads of people into an area ( could be the full 100)click to play then quickly reduce the amount of people again and it would still keep the higher amount on the island but take the reduced amount out of the people quota on the map. Made things so much easier on later levels.

Stiffkittens Download and install ZSENS. Then find a SNES ROM for this (or any) game and load it up in ZSNES. Google will help you find these things, you should be up and running within minutes to be honest.
Stiffkittens From a legal standpoint that is definitely the case, software piracy is a crime. From a practical standpoint however, there are no legal consequences to downloading a game that is no longer available, for a system that is no longer manufactured. Ultimately it comes down to how you feel about the whole thing. I'm not advocating breaking the law, but the information is there and if you feel comfortable doing it then I don't think too many people are going to care.
Has anyone here ever experienced during a session that the enemies eliminated each other? I was playing on a level in which nuclear weapons were available. At some point one of the four sides was already eliminated and I was working on my own arsenal to fight the remaining two. The suddenly both sides nuked each other, making me the winner by default.
I guess you could call these types of games RTS, really they are their precursors, and tended to be called 'God games'. The first, at the first well-known one, would have been Populous.
Both were most agressive, you don't want such opponents. That way you can ignore defence for a while and focus on population growth and research, and then run your opponents overs with superior tech. I think that was the only difference between gods. Madcap was the obvious choice.
Used to play this on the Amiga, replayed recently on an emulator and the gameplay still feels genius and addictive. Is there some modern (indie?) game that uses a similar concept?
I always wanted to play this because I knew from the magazines that it's a good game but I completely didn't know how to play, plus I didn't understand English language, yo!
I loved and hated this game in equal measure. It's a great game, but ruined by the nuclear weapons that can destroy an entire area. I also remember discovering the cheat where you'd select the amount of men you wanted, select the starting place then quickly remove your men. The level would start with the amount of men you chose, but as you removed them, they would also remain in your total. If you were quick you could start the very first level with 99 people without losing any from your total. I sent that cheat into Amiga Power.
I remember a chat where you could have infinite men but when I got to the final level I couldn't play as the game wanted to draw every man I had and as it never stopped ....!
it's not ruined by the nukes in the later levels, it's jus here you've got to be more economical with your time and make good use of the slow speed mode to get weapons as quickly as possible and get defences or nuke the enemy.
I know nothing about this game, so this might be a dumb question: WTF happened on Zappa? Dude builds a mine then sits there doing nothing while everyone else suicides? Did he just get some incredibly lucky opponent-focused Mutually Assured destruction? Why didn't any of them nuke him?
Ok how the hell did you do Ocarina with only 20 people, firstly i'm always stuck against Scarlet instead of Oberon when playing it. Even with 30 people it seems impossible as she always advances up first whichever sector you choose to start on and quickly gets to 1945. Also your people seem to reproduce quicker than mine. I'm playing the Megadrive version on an emulator but the differerences shouldn't be that noticeable. -_-
One of the most addictive games me and my bro played on the Amiga!
same here lol
Instablaster...
Was für geniale Spiele für den Amiga gemacht wurden.
Gehört mit Wings, Railroad Tycoon, Civ und History Line zu meinen Lieblingsspielen.
Amiga was the king back in the 80s early ninetys.... I used to love this game! "The designs ready"
A brilliant game, very very good times.
I used to love this on Amiga but getting a copy was hard - always full of viruses (I was a kid, no money to buy the thing!). Still playing this on the Megadrive to this day, a very under-rated game.
You pirating piece of shit
Did you grow out of the piracy thing and started paying like an adult?
what viruses?
such a sick game! pretty much what got me into strategy games like C&C etc.
WOW I remember this game from like 20 years ago at least if not way back still!
0:03:05 Yeah that's right I allways picked Madcap myself!
O.M.G! I'd forgotten this game even existed!!!!I remember playing it as a kid, almost 2 decades ago! Thanks so much for uploading this! :-D
I've been playing the Megadrive version today, its great! You'd think the lack of a mouse may hinder it but the way the buttons are mapped are "ergonomically terrific!" (oh dear..). Because red or blue are preferable to yellow or green.

Literal name of the island
'We're running out of elements'
I have played Mega lo Mania on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive & Super Nintendo.

:D
Wish that Mega-lo-Mania could be converted to an app. Such an awesome game.
Or even a multiplayer game!
My friend and I would play this on the Sega Genesis. Addictive to say the least.
the one of best my game on amiga :D the music and words in games is Epic.
I just played some Mega lo Mania clone last week and I was missing the epicness of the Amiga version. Our family used to own Amiga 500 when it was hot ;P.
"ergonomically terwiffic" I still use this to this very day because, well, as a sentence, it's ergonomically terwiffic.
@somerandompolishdude no point criticizing the playstyle, and I think the tech research is meant to show what you can do with each level. The music for this game is just epic.
Ergonomisch fantastisch!
"The production run is completed".
Classico game da "ancora uno schema e poi a nanna". Geniale ed ipnotico.
I love the graphics!
OMFG memories are back! :)
Si si, why not, eh?
@SaittaMicus Enemy choices in position and such are fixed by who you choose. Also the final stage changes based on your starter. Scarlet doesn't have to fight anyone in Megalomania, Madcap has to fight all three.
I remember playing this for hours, not having a fuckin clue what i was doing but still enjoying it! Lol
i used to play this game soooo much!! great game, i even bought the genesis version so i wouldnt have to use disks,,, it is rare, and cost me a bit,, i used to play the green player, cause i always play green on every game i play,,,,, TOWER CRITICAL,, ITS ALL OVER!!!!
The music of this game always freaked me out as a kid for some reason.
What a classic!
2:36:48 Music
the music is kind of a variation of 'mars' from gustav holst's 'the planets'.
I've been trying track down what the original score of this was for years! Thank you laertesdd!
Is there any way to enable both sfx and music? As soon as I enable sfx, it sets the music to off and vice versa.
Always played populous. I must try this one!
Before you place your people to start the map, hold down left click and keep holding it. Hover where you want to place them and immediately rush the mouse to the down arrow to reduce the number. You have the placed number in game but you only used up the number you managed to reduce it to.

1:42:39 is what I remember the best of this game
“THE MINE’S DESTROYED!”
“The factory has been destroyed!”
“TOWER CRITICAL!”
“The sector has been destroyed!”
I can’t believe I never played this game 😮
I still remember playing this as a kid and grabbing an encyclopedia to figure out just what it was I was apparently mining, how little I knew! Maamite, Moron, Tedium....
This was a really good game. I had it for computer though.
@womakgt kind of^^ you just can not move your men to specific directions but to places of the map
I remember a little cheat for this. You put loads of people into an area ( could be the full 100)click to play then quickly reduce the amount of people again and it would still keep the higher amount on the island but take the reduced amount out of the people quota on the map. wow what a great story and plot. its like earth!! lol...
2nd best game of all time. We've advanced a tech level.

Is there anwhere to download this game for modern comps? It was my fave along with lemmings & Speedball 2
Stiffkittens u can play the snes version with a emulator
thanks for the info, but I am clueless as to how this works LOL
Stiffkittens Download and install ZSENS. Then find a SNES ROM for this (or any) game and load it up in ZSNES. Google will help you find these things, you should be up and running within minutes to be honest.
yeahso I looked some videos on the subject and they said you should only download games that you actually own?
Thanks for the tips though

You got it buster!
Has anyone here ever experienced during a session that the enemies eliminated each other?

Ah the 90s - when Populous clones shipped on one disk accompanied by 300 page manuals =D
I guess you could call these types of games RTS, really they are their precursors, and tended to be called 'God games'. The first, at the first well-known one, would have been Populous.
Why does everyone always pick either Scarlet or Madcap instead of the other two guys when they do longplays of this?!
Both were most agressive, you don't want such opponents. That way you can ignore defence for a while and focus on population growth and research, and then run your opponents overs with superior tech.
I think that was the only difference between gods. Madcap was the obvious choice.
lol first time I heard the tune at the end of the game i though my Amiga Crashed
in SNES version, how i get "shut down sector" to access to Mother of Battles map?
We conquered the sector! We won!!
Used to play this on the Amiga, replayed recently on an emulator and the gameplay still feels genius and addictive. Is there some modern (indie?) game that uses a similar concept?
True, and if you jumble the letters a little you get "magia" which means magic in Spanish ;)
Anyone else think that the gameplay soundtrack sounds a little bit like Gustav Holst's "Mars"?
Yep!
@cubex55 Thank you.
The mine's been destroyed!
I always wanted to play this because I knew from the magazines that it's a good game but I completely didn't know how to play, plus I didn't understand English language, yo!
Yes, yes it does.
the pwoduction wuns completed
I loved and hated this game in equal measure.

I sent that cheat into Amiga Power.
Just to add.
I also recall seeing screen shots to the sequel to this, now in 3-D graphics. Alas it never saw the light if day and it was cancelled.
Exactly, it's no longer a game of strategy.
It becomes a race to get the nukes.
*****
Shut down a sector?
It was so long since I played this game I barely even remember what I did.
Loved this on my Amiga 500
Mega Lo Mania 2: Not So High Hobby.
the best way to win is let the ai figth theme selves
Is there a pc version of this game ?
Where can I get the Amiga version?
where did u get version of game with "mouse movement"?
Anyone know what it's saying?
It sounds like this: "Ergonomically delivered."
p3tr0114 Ergonomically Terrific
True, the only disadvantage the Mega Drive version had was the inferior music, it wasn't terrible, just not as good as the Amiga version.
I got vis game on my Megadrive in plug n play tv
We won!!1
2020 I play in France in 1994
_We're running out of elements!_ :)

Is there any differance between the gods?
I remember everyone telling me you must play the blue god because he's the best!
Any truth to this?
Not that I know of.
I know nothing about this game, so this might be a dumb question: WTF happened on Zappa? Dude builds a mine then sits there doing nothing while everyone else suicides? Did he just get some incredibly lucky opponent-focused Mutually Assured destruction? Why didn't any of them nuke him?
Played rthis on the genesis. Loved that game. I also found out myself how to create more men lol. But ofcourse cheating is ruining the game.

amiga means female friend ini spanish
We've nuked them!
Great fun :-) Gets a litte crazy when everyone has nukes as base tech and you're scrabbling for nuclear deterrents and SDI
@cupofcustard It is.
Manual addresses this: the women are there, just unseen.
I forgot to say "Pukka Design!"
?
too bad you can't play this on a mac in 2016 :(
ever played "dark souls"? :P
i never had the advantage of not getting attacked by enemies. You played in god mode?
Die Schnitte sind bischen auffällig hättet ja ruhig drin lassen können das ihr oder du auch mal verloren hast.
Man, that's some naff end music :I
lol
Just bought this for my Mega Drive, those missiles looks like they ruin the game though.
Too bad they did not reformat this game for iphone.
Or at least something based on it…
