I had a mate who had this game on his C64, and modded it using an Action Replay cartridge. He flipped the Arthur sprite upside down, so he was moving with his legs flailing in the air. At the time, I thought it was hilarious.
Oh my god, this is one of the big missing pieces of my childhood. I haven't played this game for like 16 years. I was like 4 or 5 last time I played this.
I've owned pretty much every PC type, games console, handheld etc. over the past 20 years, but nothing comes close to the games I played on my C64. Man, those were the days! This game would drive me nuts at times, but it was a favorite nonetheless. They just don't make them like they used to.
One of my first Longplays I`ve ever made. To this time there was no emulator for Savestates so I have to play the games flawless. This was really hard but Ghosts N Goblins is one of the better longplays from the first series. :) Never saw the video since 5 years. Thanks for uploading.
I never seen the commadore version before it looks and sounds so different it's strange seeing Ghosts 'n Goblins without that classic theme. cool vid man.
How I loved the music of this game. I actually knew this version of the game waaay before the other versions. It's funny that I like this music better but only the c64 version had it. I also like the original too but this is kickass.
One of the classics! I have to admit though I would always use the old cheat for the bosses where you kneel down next to the door and became invincible.
I had this on my C64 and I could barely get to the boss at the end of the first stage and on the few occasions that I did, I would pretty much die instantly.
I heard Could it be magic by Barry Manilow on the radio today. The intro and outro are the same as the intro to this C64 tune. I thought it was interesting anyway. There were often ripped off parts in C64 music, but I never noticed this one before.
only 6mins playing to get the ending!!?? My God, I spent hours and hours and days playing to this game when I use to visit my cousin's C64 (hehe), it is like saying to my cousin in those times: go and do a shit on the toilet, when you come back I have finished the game....XD
@jasonisunavailable naaah I was about 11 when the C64 version was released but when the arcade came out in "85" I loved it although it was way too advanced for me at the time. this was my 1st game (not including super mario bros) for the nintendo (nes) in "87", and I didn't even ask for it as it was a surprise. Outstanding.
Ah man, I never realized they cut the game short. The whole thing loaded into the C64's RAM, which is col because there's a lot there, but man, if they let it load a few levels, it'd be an amazing job. Played great though. Nothing more needs to be said about the music. :P
quake 1b, there was another music for the menu, wasn´t it ( or maybe it was the credits )? anyway, i remember being somehow enchanted by that tune as a kid. could you help me, Q1B?!
It was a very hard game. On the first stage you couldn't do anything when the zombies came up from the ground and you were exactly there. There are useless weapons, you used only one. Without savestates...very nice work. How did you record the gameplay into video?
i know the arcade verson is better because there is 6 levels and you need the shield to get into the end of game badass and kill him right in front the princess and also there are 2 laps involved
+MystikWizard You had to complete the game twice in order to actually fully complete it.....you played through once and then got thrown right back to the first level and had to do it all over again in order to fight the end boss.....This game was one of the hardest games ever made.
The music is awful. Original is MUCH better. The playability is very different in all senses in comparison to the original game. But the grafx are great, very cool.
This game made me rage so hard as a kid... lol.
Great music. and this was one of those classics...

Loved this version of the game the most. Creepy music for the time too.
I forgot this game ever existed. Thanks for posting, I love it
wow, that was nostalgic. It looks so easy now, but as a little kid, it was hard to beat.

Probably my favourite C64 game ;)
What a good times :)
Cool play! I remember me playing this thru ages ago :) Good memories :)
One of my fav. games when I was a kid. Pretty hard though and such a great sound! Love the tune!
I never seen the commadore version before it looks and sounds so different it's strange seeing Ghosts 'n Goblins without that classic theme. cool vid man.
Wow, I remember the game seeming longer, but its funny how after all these years, I was still able to hum along to the tune
When this came out on C64 I was overjoyed. I think I locked myself away with it for weeks.
Also, this version has teh kick ass music...AND Sound effects! Now that's worthy of a WTF. :)
Nice playin, Q1B.
How I loved the music of this game. I actually knew this version of the game waaay before the other versions. It's funny that I like this music better but only the c64 version had it. I also like the original too but this is kickass.
the running animation is truly fantastic.
Brings back a million fun memorys! Thanks!
I so loved this game
Thanks man! A good remembering of the roaring 80's
I liked the idea to make the village blue: that made sense for me since the game seems unfolding at night...
Waf für eine geile musik....Wunderbar....
Also, some enemies are completely invincible. I can't believe you defeated the invincible guys.
Quite simply the best version of this classic game, even better than the arcade
one of the best c64 games imo
I finally get to see the end.
I played this game on c64 for ever without finishing and now finally realize how close I was to the end.
Geez
One of the classics! I have to admit though I would always use the old cheat for the bosses where you kneel down next to the door and became invincible.
I'd call this a speedrun. Nice work, man!
I had this on my C64 and I could barely get to the boss at the end of the first stage and on the few occasions that I did, I would pretty much die instantly.
@talentedMrRead Definitely. I remember throwing torches that would burn for a while.
Dios, que buena música. He llorado al escucharla. Igual que la del Arcade. Me la he bajado para escucharla en el coche.
I used to love this😂
This is a pretty good translation for the C64
I heard Could it be magic by Barry Manilow on the radio today. The intro and outro are the same as the intro to this C64 tune. I thought it was interesting anyway. There were often ripped off parts in C64 music, but I never noticed this one before.

Wow, you are master at this game!
Gawd.... Just finished this on c64 using an emulator and quicksaving and loading alot - Nice job doing it the legitimate way! :}
kanianbe Snap!
Brilliant music.
I noticed Arthur turning into a mess of pixels just before reaching the princess at the end. o.o
awesome music
Én már meghaltam,
tegnap meghaltam.
Most mégis felkelek,
harcolni elmegyek,
temetőt otthagyom,
fegyverem megfogom.

It's still crazy hard on an actual C64 with a TAC-2 :)
WOW!! MY CHILDHOOD !!!!
Ah man, I never realized they cut the game short. The whole thing loaded into the C64's RAM, which is col because there's a lot there, but man, if they let it load a few levels, it'd be an amazing job. Played great though. Nothing more needs to be said about the music. :P
I loved this music: almost better than the coin-op!
music used to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid.
@ntonix i pulled out the old commodore 64 and had a play , it is the original music . love that game
i spent more time playing this game then any other in my life i think and still didnt beat it it was just unbelivably hard lol
God I love c64 GFX
you did save the princess -THE END- :D
I wish that red gargoyle was as easy as this in the arcade version.
Wow. I was never be able to to finish it. Without a cheat code, I mean. xD
@bigpops74 Both are based on Chopin's Prelude no. 20 in C minor. Good ear.
2:15 Weird synchronicity
I like the ness vertion. Its better. The one for supper ness is even better.
Great.
Thats awesome... Thx
way better than resident evil :D those were the times;
quake 1b, there was another music for the menu, wasn´t it ( or maybe it was the credits )? anyway, i remember being somehow enchanted by that tune as a kid. could you help me, Q1B?!
Nice!
Really tough game
double dragon
i miss it
6 min longplay ?! .. this game takes 6 hours on NES if you are lucky
I actually got a decent amount of skill and beat Levels 1-4 in one life, so it took me about 30 minutes total.
One of the most difficult games to win, after Green Beret of course...
This game wasn't that hard. Green Beret on the other hand... oh my god
Invincibility...
The arcade version is one of the HARDEST platformers in gaming history.
Hooked on this in the arcades and later on C64. I remember the music suffered as you played. Follow up Ghouls & Ghosts was not as good.
Didn't we all. Without unlimited life this game was next to impossible to beat.
Nothing like using a bit of Chopin as the music for the game...
Still remember the sound fx interfering with the music.
It was a very hard game. On the first stage you couldn't do anything when the zombies came up from the ground and you were exactly there. There are useless weapons, you used only one. Without savestates...very nice work. How did you record the gameplay into video?
I think the music alone made this superior to the arcade...
COOL XD
nice, btw what did emulator did you use and what software to record (the sound is lovely).
I'm sorry but the music on the NES version kicks this one in the balls so hard it knocks out your tonsils.
Haha, me too! :)
Which Chopin piece are they using?
@rodd555 saying that i could never kill that snake thing at end :/
that was a princess ? looked more like Frosty the Snowman
i'm sure this is the most frustrating game i ever played
Sprite collision turned off, try the original arcade version and see how far you get. :)
i know the arcade verson is better because there is 6 levels and you need the shield to get into the end of game badass and kill him right in front the princess and also there are 2 laps involved
the farthest I got was dragon I always die there
You could add "with cheat on" on your vidéo title, the first boss goes litteraly through you...
The audio is distorted.
Unlike nes the shield in this version is super strong
i beat the game baby!
terribly right
@andersbiro Eh, the music is good in this version, but I prefer the arcade version's music.
Looks easy, but I never finished it.
and people complain about todays games lengths...
I haven't played the c64 version but it looks easier than both the harder than hard Arcade & the imfamous NES version.
I'm not so good at this game. It's too hard for me to clear.
This game was so piss poor. I am not convinced this was a finished product. You didn't even get to fight The Devil at the end.
+MystikWizard You had to complete the game twice in order to actually fully complete it.....you played through once and then got thrown right back to the first level and had to do it all over again in order to fight the end boss.....This game was one of the hardest games ever made.
+MystikWizard are (were) you convinced the developer did a rushed job when they converted (ported) the Ghosts n Goblins arcade game on the C64?
WTF? Only three stages? And it looks easier than the arcade version...again, WTF?
it's collisions program bug not cheat...
@JhondoetenenteDunn i dont believe he cheating. i done this game and he's got it down
The Saga version was much better.
The music is awful. Original is MUCH better. The playability is very different in all senses in comparison to the original game. But the grafx are great, very cool.
