Most people never needed the Tahoe, the Traverse just needed a visual makeover to make people less ashamed of driving it.
We owned the first gen it’s a great car and all but it did look kinda hideous. FWD too kinda pain in the ass in PA
This.
Yeah, that’s right if I’m gonna spend $50-70,000 on a new vehicle, I’m gonna have to like the way it looks and the previous Traverse was really plain and boring.
Most people are huge sooo… they don’t even get out of their cars nowadays to get coffee. Tahoe for most lol.,
The old one looks like *ss
$57K for the RS is insane….
Where I live, its seems the white Tahoe/Yukon is a mom status symbol. School functions are a sea of them. Moms stepping out in lululemons toting Stanley cups and fancy handbags.
My friend has only buys his wife a few years old Tahoes so she can pretend she’s on the same level as the rich bitches at her kids school and baseball games that have theirs. I never understood why people care so much to try and keep up with others!
Study after study after study has proven that the reason why minivans don’t sell is because women won’t drive them. End of story men are much more open to owning them because you can remove the seats and all stuff in them. This isn’t even a new trend people were pulling up to school in Tahoe’s when my daughter was in grade school in 2007.
You are so right. Buddy used a minivan to haul everything needed to finish his basement. But many women wouldn’t be caught dead in the minivan. I’ve heard it said so many times by females I work with. The few that have accepted the truth of practicality rave about their vans tho. “Coolness” be damned! LOL. Anyways, I really like this Traverse. And I really like the Tahoe as well.
@@brandonharding1199 we had a 2005 Sienna from new and kept it 14 years and 277k miles. We moved all manner of people and furniture in that thing.
NPCs, basically. Endless NPCs.
Tahoe is the better vehicle but you gotta pay more. Go with your budget.
Giant Kudos for pointing out some of the concerns. Hate hate hate when reviews just praise praise praise like they are the greatest vehicles ever.
Best looking suv
Great review Nathan. I was looking for this yesterday. Other channels released a review yesterday, but they don't compare to my friends at TFL.
Just purchased the first one in my county today! I got the LT version but it was equipped with so much. I had the high country and upgrade the year.
Lane keep assist is just below the radio volume knob. I just delivered one to a customer earlier today. Super cruise worked great here in southeast Idaho.
Holy sh*t look at that z71 drive on a gravel road. The type of thing city living socialites and stay at home moms dream about.
A gravel road is still ON road... this channel is sad.
Extreme offroading, bruh. Hope it's got a center locking diff for all that rock crawling we're gonna do in our new turbo 4 Traverses!
@@jonc2914i think that’s the joke
Oh that comment again. It’s been done to death man.
@@ChopperChad has it? Fake offroading has been done to death.
Finally the Traverse actually looks attractive - honestly it’s what the Blazer nameplate should reflect … while the Trailblazer nameplate would be great on a Bronco/Wrangler competitor. But alas …
Personal opinions, there are parts I think look really good, like the grill, profile, but in true Chevy fashion some awkward parts, like wtf with the rear side windows, is it a shark fin, the monocle around the front lights.
Now it looks like a CX-90 with a sail panel from the 1970s.
As new vehicles continue to stack up on dealers lots with higher interest rates the vehicle manufacturers are not in reality with the economy.
I always have my lights on Auto... there has never been a time to change that... and even if I did... it's a simple 2 tap fix on the Screen, front and center right there under the volume knob. I don't see the complaint as valid. A lot of these settings should be chosen before your trip anyway.
Thanks for the early limited scope view of the new Z71 Chevy Traverse, Nathan. Can't wait for the full review under your normal TFL conditions. GM has been building Turbo 4 cylinder with Low end torque for 15 plus years. I once had to suffer getting 50mpg in a 2014 Chevy Cruze 1.4 liter LOL.. Still, beating Ford and Ram on base model half ton truck engine.
Great extra piece of mine for bad weather on roads with that twin clutch. All-wheel drive system. 30 grand cheaper than a Tahoe, good deal..
I know people say a lot about the V6… I have the 2022 Traverse FWD LS sporting the black badges all around with 18” black wheels and the traveling package. I have no complaints about its power as I take down some country roads when I travel to the family hometown and very likely maxed out on a few occasions. I will admit, I’m definitely loving the Z71! Will the new z71 come in white? I’m definitely loving the Stormtrooper look on mine 😅✌🏼
Great video comparing these models. Dear automakers: less screens, more buttons please.
I always love a Nathan review. Keep it up
Welp ... thanks guys been waiting for u to get your hands on of these and im pretty much sold! When I'll be able to get one much like the reliability rating of these new engines, time will tell LOL at least I know what I want next!
I was hoping you'd do a video like this. I watched a video about the traverse yesterday and my first though was that it would be a good cheaper tahoe
Dislike that the Z71 doesn’t come with ventilated seats😢. I’m from South Texas, so it would’ve been perfect with that at least.
I agree
Tahoes are sweet but so is the new Traverse!
😂😂
The only time the Z71 would see off roading is at the unpaved parking lot of the youth soccer field
A gravel road isn't off road. At no point in this video did they go off road. They do the same shit on their jeep videos. This channel is cringe.
@@jonc2914how is that cringe?! these guys are amazing. Complete idiot 🤣
Beautiful truck but the 2019 I had kept giving me problems with the shift to park and transmission kept slipping
Nathan does a fun review ! Like to see how it performs but realize they are in a controlled test route . Z71 ok money RS too much .
I really wish GM would have made this RWD with a proper transfer case and 5.3. But they know it would sell like hotcakes and cannibalize all the Tahoe sales
Lol. NAh, nothing could cannibalize the Tahoe’s sales. For as long as cars travel on the ground many people will always want the latest Chevrolet Tahoe regardless, people just love them so much and not just Americans. I think you’re criminally underestimating the value of the Tahoe.
A mid-size RWD SUV wouldn’t cannibalize Tahoe sales. The only slightly less expensive but significantly smaller SUV wouldn’t sell as well as you think, that’s why *gm* has a lack of interest. It won’t have a V8 it’ll have the same 2.7t as the Colorado. With the level of tech and comfort *gm* offers today, top trims of that mid-size SUV would be well into the $60k’s and for that kind of money they’ll inevitably be circling around the Tahoe on the showroom floor anyway especially when you’re getting so much more for your money.
Yeah a 5.3 in something like this in the modern day would be next to none.
that what i thought with all this sales hype
That's why they killed the Trailblazer had. It had 80% of Tahoe capacity and towing, 25% better mileage, 15K cheaper
The 5.3 that makes similar power to the 2.5 but has massive issues with lifter failure and gets worse mpg? What a enticing motor
It be nice if Chevy built a mid size 4x4 body on frame true SUV like the 4Runner. But given what they did to the Blazer name plate, I doubt it.
4 banger with 21 mpg and quad exhaust! 😂
That's better than the V6s get. Driven plenty of those over the years at work and they struggle to average 20mpg.
I love my traverse and I don't even have a new one I have a 2016 I just wish I had that new engine and super cruise gas mileage sucks and I don't like how low it is but I like it's comfort
I was at a Ford store today looked at a Ford Explorer Timberline I think it was called very similar t this Chevy traverse z71 side by side test would be interesting a Honda Pilot Trailsport too
Moms with one kid will still want the Tahoe 🙄
Because it’s better to have the extra power/space when you don’t need it than not have it when you do. Tahoe is the best value in its class because of its design and packaging.
Now the Traverse is a much better choice than before, that doesn’t mean it demolishes the value proposition of a Chevrolet Tahoe. Really silly title for the video.
Power only needed to tow. A minivan arguably has more usable volume than a Tahoe, 140 cu ft vs 122 cu ft respectively. Minivan $40k, Tahoe $60k+. Just saying…..
@@brandonharding1199 Sienna Platinum MSRP is $56k...
@@MysticWraith how many people are buying the top trim of a minivan?
@@MysticWraith Top trim of Tahoe is $80,000 +. Compare like to like.
Disappointed the entire driving portion was on supercruise and no impressions on the new 4 cylinder powertrain
The RS looks great for city.
I have the 18 Traverse with 70k miles, had it for 3 years, and no problems
Our 18’ had literally zero problems up until 120k, then it needed a whole new transmission after the old one failed out of the blue
They should’ve kept the V6 in the traverse, or at least as an option. Some people like that low end torque. Plus, downsizing to a 4 cylinder in a vehicle this size isn’t going to make much of an mpg difference at all. My parents have a 2020 traverse ls with the 3.6L V6 and it’s a wonderful engine, it also comes with the reliability of no turbo.
14:03 "wheres the lane departure" "Wheres the light controls" ... you pointed it out.
This car is designed very beautifully, almost perfect
My mom has the outgoing version of the rs trim... It's comfortable if not a bit outdated... But she likes it way more than her 1st gen Acadia.
You the BEST THING ABOUT THE T.F.L......😁.
Just bought a 24' Explorer ST and this looks like an amazing option
I think it looks way better and sharp. Obviously with any new vehicle (yes Toyota included) we need to see about quality/reliability. But seems like Chevy is slowly turning things around. Trax is a huge hit and obviously the Colorado
Oh? Did they get rid of the 5 cylinder?
The Colorado is dead me.
How do these things Mae it to production?
The trax is trash and you’re paying the price on it when the warranty ends lol
The pricing makes perfect sense if you actually look at the specs. To get one comes standard on the RS on the Z71. It’ll cost you about $5000. Also have you ever priced 22 inch wheels and tires?
Best looking suv! love it)
I wanted to see you try the super cruise in Ike’s gauntlet /I70 from Denver to Grand Junction.
It’s a good looking vehicle. I like the gauge cluster/infotainment system. I would rather have a larger rear quarter windows in the back. Not sure why they cut them small. Also not a fan of the interior. It looks a little bland. I’ll drive one though next time in the market for a large crossover.
If the road is not mapped for Super cruise does it not use lane marker lines instead? Seems like a fault as conventional systems only need lane marker lines
We need a Traverse Z71 Vs. Explorer Timberline video
I wish there was a middle ground between the Tahoe and Traverse. Kinda like a 4runner, small Body-on-Frame Suv. Maybe they could call it something cool like a Blazer or something.
Tahoe with 3.0l diesel is a real off road vehicle.
and it can tow almost twice as much as the Traverse.
Give it a proper 4wd system and it would be pretty cool.
Z71’s twin-clutch AWD system can most likely conquer anything the AWD system you have in mind can conquer.
Nathan, tired and a little grumpy on a press trip, has some gems in it. If the fancy tech in that new engine works, it might be a winner.
Looks interesting, hope the reliability is good.
Ordered my Traverse Z71 in red 3 weeks ago.
Did you pay MSRP?? When is it due to arrive?
@@trumpisastump9382 Yes, the quoted price is MSRP. I even got a deal on the electronic rust inhibitor. It should arrive by late June.
Love it, thanks N8
Will they both be fine in the snow?
No more C-shape headlights? I liked that look...this doesn't seem too bad thou
That Traverse is as damn near as big as the Tahoe now! Crazy. Id still take the Tahoe. I know older Traverses had reliability concerns and i would always rather have a body on frame, V8 SUV. One of the last of a drying breed, and im glad GM still has the balls to make them.
Beautiful trucks inside and out
Somebody will buy it. I feel it’s better than that cyber heap.
🤣
Id love for these to come to Australia oneday 🙏🏽
Hey you guys get the Land Cruiser.
@@Name-kd5jj wait what? Do yous get them in U.S? 🤯
@@YessirPauly We got the 200 series up until 2021 but we don't get the new 300 series. Its being replaced by the 250 series Prado. Even when we got the 200 series it only came in the top luxury trim and was pushing $100,000 USD so nobody bought them. Plus we have the Sequoia which is the same size but offers more trims with a much lower starting price so that basically ate all of the LC sales. The new 250 series is going to compete with the 4Runner so we'll probably see the LC flop once again.
@@Name-kd5jj yeah damn bro we pay so much here for the cruisers but we all have them ahaha its about 120k-140k for the GR 300 series entry levels at about 100k...
your right, i dont need a Tahoe i need A Escalade V
The joke about the Google assistant was the best part of the video 😂
lane departure is on the screen literally right next to your finger as you are holding the wheel
You're right, I need a STRETCHED Tahoe!
I disagree the Traverse doesn't have a good reliability history compared to the Tahoe . The Tahoe is more robust and has been out on the market for a long time .
I rented a Chevys Traverse It was nice BUT but a quick google search revealed that these SUVs including the Chevy Traverse, GMCs Arcadia and Cadillacs XT6, all the same vehicle platform, have been plagued with spectrum of problems body, engine and trans issues resulting in loss of reliability and longevity and or expensive repairs. Seems newer models may have less complaints but still ... Research wisely before purchasing. I mean if your only gonna keep it a few years while under factory warranty then sure.
Exactly this! Tahoes have always been IMO the better if not the best built gm product. The Traverse is notorious with issues and have a horrible resale value.
@@MotSter ... to be fair though, this is a whole new version, not just a facelift. Hopefully the problems with the old one have been addressed.
@@stephencooper3583Well the issues with the Traverse/Acadia were the engine and transmission which have _both_ been replaced and I’m guessing that was done specifically for that reason.
Need a comparison with the pilot and Highlander. Resale value also after 3-5 years
Why do you need that? Everyone knows Honda and Toyota have better resale if you want a Honda or a Toyota go buy one
@@Ryan2022 Well it seems like he _doesn’t_ want the Toyota or Honda instead but like majority of us
in America who have heard enough of the same Japanese propaganda from biased reviewers and brand loyalist in comment sections, he’s probably concerned he won’t get decent resale value in 3-5 years with anything that isn’t the underwhelming Japanese competitors.
People like you are exactly the reason Ted said what he said and wants to know the answer to his question, because not everyone wants to spend their money on a Honda or Toyota. Americans do because they’re forced to feel that they SHOULD. It’s certainly a brand perception thing.
@@G-Rated I think the Tahoe has very good resale. I don’t know about the traverse and I’m not one of those people that says you should only buy a Honda or a Toyota I Honda and Toyota and had very good experiences with them. I’ve also had products and Ram had zero problems with any of those either.
Chevy Gang🔥🔥🔥
The traverse was a visual and mechanical nightmare. The Tahoe quite the opposite. I love the new look of the new Traverse, just hoping the mechanicals are just as good.
My neighbor down the street sold his Toyota and bought a Chevy Tahoe. He now has 90k miles on the Tahoe and is on his 3rd fuel pump. Not sure what other issues he has had if any as this is what angers him the most.
Sounds about right.
Trash
And the Tahoe is in my opinion one of the better made vehicles by GM. The Traverse has always been terrible. Its a nice size and all that but they have had countless issues. The Tahoe is way more reliable platform than the traverse.
@@Overlandjon Not sure why GM did not install a trap door as it is super expensive to replace what would be a simple job with a trap door to replace a fuel pump.
tell him to switch to SHELL VPOWER. he will never need a pump again.
@@AmcoAutoGlass lol. His lexus never needed a fuel pump after 212k miles. Never!
Come on TFL 🤣 this isn’t in the same league as the Tahoe
Offers about 90% of what the Tahoe does for 67% of the price
it's superior to tahoe
@@AmcoAutoGlassNot so fast, the 2025 refreshed Tahoe is giving this thing a run! *gm* has updated the Tahoe very nicely.
@@NWI_Steelthe Tahoe is far more reliable and has a better resale value for a reason
Lately, GM has come out with some nice vehicles, for example the new Trax and this Traverse, but I would hesitate due to the engines. An optional 4 cylinder, or better yet a hybrid Trax and a V6 in the Traverse would seem to attract more buyers. Why would I buy this when I can get a (likely) more reliable V6 Grand Cherokee, or better yet, the 4xe GC?
Base around 38?
Kia and Hyundai system used the lines of the road to self-control the steering wheel
11 sec find! First?
G’morning TFL!
I really wish that you could count on this to be rock solid reliable for long haul or at least have a warranty like Kia/Hyudai to back it up. Unfortunately it doesn't and that's a no go sadly as it looks great!
steel wheels?
Great looking vehicles! We bought a new Equinox 36 months ago,now with 75,000 miles with no problems yet. Hope we can change into the Traverse
the rs is way more expensive than the z71 but it also has everything standard. a full loaded z71 approaches 55k, a much smaller gap. the rs still has a lot of things that you can’t get ok the z71, so the pricing makes sense.
Wifey Had a 2017 traverse for for 5 years not bad but gas guzzler for the v6 its was 14.3 mpg. None the less AC comp. Went out and now wifey is in 2024 sorento lease. And that better than the traver.
The 57k for the RS doesn't sound to bad when you're pretty much getting a baby Escalade
No where near Cadillac in quality of materials but the technology in the new Chevrolets are getting really darn close. This design certainly looks and feels on the same level of Lexus TX, Infiniti QX60, and Kia Telluride but offers so much more for the money.
Not even close to Escalade quality.
Go for the bigger engine.
You need a Tahoe more NOW than before!
Why doesn’t Chevy use the same 2.7 engine it uses in the Colorado and Silverado?
They really should huh?
Could be a variety of reasons, from NVH to fuel economy or emissions, or even the ability of the transmission to handle the output adequately.
The 2.7 is rwd based. The 2.5 is transverse mounted fwd
Maybe they did not want to have to offer engine replacements due to the cranking blocks on the 2.7
@@NWI_Steel that in and of itself isnt necessarily indicative of the reason. Ford uses it's 2.7 and 3.5 Ecoboost architecture in both transverse and longitudinal applications. So it technically was possible to implement by GM here too, but likely there were other considerations that made the smaller displacement more advantageous/appropriate.
When you option a z71 they get up into the mid 50s so the price difference isn’t as large
I hope everyone likes red in their interiors
Yeah what is up with that? Extremely cheesy
Their "HALO" cars need the option of a second row bench seat.
Unfortunately, it is only available on the LS and LT
If you’re the sort of person that buys these things new and sells it to buy something else in 4-5 years, yeah a traverse is probably a more sensible option than a Tahoe for 4/5 people. But for people like me that buy them when they’re five years old with 70-100k miles on them I’ll still be looking for a Tahoe because I know they run forever with pretty simple maintenance cause they’re just Silverados with fancy suspension and a full body.
$60,000 for that. Nah
I had a 12 traverse loved it but the gas mileage was awful
The RS front end side view looks like a duck’s beak.
3 car seats (1 rear facing) warrants a Tahoe/Yukon
Hey, how come you guys didn’t go to the Beijing Auto Show and bring us the latest models and technology news?
Chevy been using the twin scrolling turbo since the cobaltss, i doubt they got the idea from bmw. In any case, i feel this suv lacks power and torque compared with a Ford explorer St. I wish Chevy would make something like that.
Looks like Chevy bought the rights to the biggest piano black forest on earth. Should have called it Z-35.5. Two more vehicles that will dominate rental car fleets, and that's about it.
This thing lost me at "no more V6 engine"
Can we get Tommy with a slip test please??
Someone needs to do a 0-60 on this thing already. I would bet (like the Colorado) it’s slower than the V6 it replaces. Not that speed really matters in a family hauler, but just for sh*ts and giggles to see if the increased power/torque can offset the increased weight.
It will be more reliable than the V6 though and that’s because this 2.5T is way more powerful and not having to work as hard to achieve the same results in performance.
I think it's 6.9 sec 0-60, whereas the V6 is in the 7s range. I have the V6 and it feels pretty peppy for the size.
This is a minivan without sliding doors. Gravel roads are off-roading now? Ha.
Don't like the 2.5 liter. Yes the power is decent but it's unrefined. Only the Pilot, Telluride and Palisade still offer a traditional V6.
Would still like to have a SUV built off of the Colorado/ Canyon platform
What’s the most you’d be willing to spend for a top trim ZR2 Bison mid-sized SUV based on the new Colorado?
@@G-Rated That wouldn't be the trim I'd pick. I'm not a huge tech option or extreme off-road guy. What I want is 7500lb towing that can get thru a foot of snow with all rear seats that lay flat for max internal cargo. $50k
@@Justin_Holt that’s such a small niche market for *gm* to spend money developing a great value trim with that much capability, just for folks to choose the overpriced Toyota 4Runner that won’t have half the looks, feel, tech, capabilities, etc. but be nearly double the price because of unproven perceptions of better long term reliability. The business model for it is too shaky.
The only way I see *gm* doing that is if it’s a mid-size off-road EV. Toyota can’t compete with *gm* in the EV space, Toyota’s perception of significantly better reliability with ICE is diminishing, when it comes to EVs that perception doesn’t even exist and it’s the #1 way the company sells cars.
I’ll stick with the Pilot Trail Sport.
Is it rear wheel based or front wheel? The answer says it all. Frame/no frame. Can’t compare but you all knew that. Got me and others to comment on it! I guess it has its place…
Prices for new vehicles are going up but what the consumer is getting is going down.... Smaller engines in these SUV's. The days of the V6 in the mid size are gone. People are attracted to the glamour of the dashboards with the screens. America loves screens. With large TVs and phones if you dont have one you havent made it in life... Its cost so much less for a manufacture to install a screen and run the same software for all vehicles than individually have employees installing knobs and wiring. Your are getting taken advantage of in the pricing.
Hey, wheres the hundred price complaints? I thought it was mandatory in the comment section of ALL TFL video's that at least half of us forget about inflation and hate on whatever manufacturer was being talked about.
