So happy to see a video on the car! It’s been my dream car since I was 8 years old, 20 years later and I still look at these cars. Btw the horn going off killed me 😂
You catch the occasional comment on dans insta from Matt and its my favorite youtuber freindship ever. If both of them collab with cletus i will die a happy man
I LOVE these restoration and modding videos Dan makes! I learn a lot from them, they're a lot of fun to watch, and it gives me ideas for future builds.
I'm seriously jealous. My first car was a '71 SS and still think they are the sexiest Camaro to ever roll off the assembly line. The previous owner of mine had done a rebuild to stock '71 LT-1 specs(330HP). After spinning a bearing I redid the engine senior year of HS to slightly better than '70.5 LT-1(360HP) specs. 10:1 flat top pistons paired with ported/polished/angle milled Edelbrock heads for 11:1 compression on pump gas, converted to full roller valvetrain with a slightly bigger than '70.5 LT-1 solid roller cam, single plane Edelbrock intake, 750 Holley, 1 wire HEI distributor, full length Hedman 1-5/8 stainless headers, 3" stainless H-pipe/"cherry bombs"/tail pipes. Probably way more car than any 17 year old should be allowed to drive, but damn it was fun.
Now that I think about it, all the DIY stuff you've been doing lately (last 8-ish months?) really makes the name *Do It* With Dan more accurate than ever before in a way.
The steering wheel and the plate add so much I love it. The camera resetting to 24 fps was a little hard to watch but I can't get enough of these build videos
@@strawsparky33 that's exactly what I would do what are you talking about did u read my post. I said I want to swap the 454 badges and put 572 badges on it with a 572 engine in it
You just did that piston-firing explanation to show off those gains, right xD Loving the direction this channel is going in. From Wheelie Practice back in the day, to changing steering wheels. Much Diverse, such wow.
The mechanic side of me hopes you learned to disconnect the battery when youre messing around with your steering wheel next time, but having watched your videos for years now i know that you didnt lol
you would only disconnect the battery if the steering wheel has an airbag. which that steering wheel does not have. he could have easily disconnected the battery to avoid the annoying honk. but... youtube content. it was funny as shit.
Honestly this is my favorite channel on youtube, your real about everything and admit when you make mistakes like the bumper, I feel like your a good person to relate to and I know your a hell of a youtube, you deserve more subs then this
Dan I recommend if your gonna keep that motor in it for awhile, throw a set of super nice spark plugs on it, and upgrade the intake, carb, and breather and some ebay longtube headers that’ll make a good bit of difference in the powerand make it look and sound a lot better. I’d also swap the valve covers to something nice looking instead of everything painted same color but that’s just me! Keep up the good work I love the car!
That car seems like based off the spark plugs you showed us it has or is running rich causing the plugs to foul. While increasing total timing helps it only helps in the way that with more timing its able to be more efficient with the air and fuel it gets which can slightly improve performance but wont make it 100%. Those little 2 barrels can be troublesome with the common rich condition issue as they can be hard to tune. If I were you id source a little 500 or 600cm 2 barrel holley to put on the factory intake if you want to keep it orginal. This will offer much more performance out of that little 350 and more tuneability. Another helpful thing as with timing is to get whats called a dialback timing light and set TOTAL TIMING at 34 degrees. Hope this helps! Love the vids!
Great looking Camaro Dan! excited to see how it will be once you're all done with it. Another note at least we all now know your dog get's all your money.
Probably wouldn't hurt to check the gap and dwell on the points. Also looking at the way the headlight beam pattern on side of the 1LE it appears you have the highbeams wired to the low beam circuit. Some aftermarket headlights use the H4 pin out which has swaps the high and low wires I had this issue when I did a Hella H4 conversation on my 87 Camaro. I had to use the adapter that came whit them.
So I also used to gap spark plugs like that, but I learned the hard way that if you have platinum or iridium plugs, sliding the plug along the disc to widen the gap will shear the electrode right off.
I would only use that method of gapping spark plugs on older copper plugs like I'm sure that car uses. Newer iridium or platinum plugs have a small protruding electrode that can be easily broken off if you use a wedge to gap them. Other styles of gappers have a cutout to bend the grounding terminal in or out so you don't come in contact with the small piece of iridium or platinum. Just a consideration.
Beautiful car Dan! I, like you, have always wanted one of those. Something that will help driveability, try to run gas with no ethanol in it. Will be watching episodes on this one for sure!
Dan the way youre gaping spark plugs is actually incorrect when you gap a plug you aren't supposed to gap by the tip on those coin style gapping tools you are supposed to gap with the hole in the tool not by sliding it along the ridges on the edge aren't for gapping because the actual electrodes are tipped and gapping by forcing on the electrode will degrade the coating giving decreased performance you don't want to gap by the electrode but by the physical arm that holds the electrode Chris fix has a great video on gaping spark plugs (ua-cam.com/video/m_ZsWQ_WXNo/v-deo.html) hope this helps... glad to see you finally having your dream car
@@_Glockyy_ no because you can damage the plating on the electrodes... Like for example a platinum plug isn't solid platinum (obviously) but the electrode has a platinum coating so when you apply force to the electrode it can damage/ remove that coating ruining the plug
The LED lamps are better than I thought they would look. I had a baby blue 78 Camaro, 305 with the 3 speed. The doors eventually would not open so I just left the windows rolled down and we would slide in dukes of Haz style.
Dan, I got a ridge wallet a while back when you first did an ad for them, I love it! Went with a black titanium. Use it every day and it's my only wallet now, super slim!
Cylinders are all numbered. On v8’s one side of the engine will be slightly offset to the front of the car to allow room for connecting rods. The front most piston is #1 and starting front to back on that most upfront side of the block the cylinders are 1,3,5,7. Same goes for the other side but it’s 2,4,6,8
Should have shown everyone where the gas tank fill spout is....(its its in the back of the car behind the plate, thats why it flaps down like that..for those that didnt know.. LOLZ) I LOVED that about my 77 Trans Am! Does your high beam switch sit on the floor board???
You should throw a wide band O2 sensor and air/fuel gauge in...then get someone to jet the carb...it sounds like it is stumbling when hitting the gas... Plus it that car sat for awhile the plug wires might need replaced...check cap and rotor too... check all your vacuum lines for leaks...run some kind of fuel additive to clean the carb...could be gummed up from sitting too....maybe change the small fuel filter in the carb right behind where the fuel line goes into the carb. Notice it smoking...like blue smoke...oil burning...those engine are known for the valve seals going bad...especially if it sat...which could explain the 3 fouled plugs...and with the low mileage I doubt it was rebuilt.
hey dan i find the best way to find ideal timing and carb adjustment is using a vacuum gauge on the manifold vacuum of the carb and advancing until the vacuum drops then get to max vacuum at idle same with idle mixture adjusments on the carb. each engine will tell you what it wants for advance rather than just saying 13btdc.
