  • This video is about Post Op Adenoidectomy
Pain usually managed by Tylenol/Motrin for 4-5 days
Discomfort can be felt anywhere in the head - ear pain, sore throat, headache
Recovery feels like a head cold: congestion, post-nasal drip, fatigue
Avoid airplanes and swimming until healed (typically 7-10 days)
Bad breath can be very dramatic, it will go away when completely healed
Temperature up to 101 fairly normal and usually goes down with Tylenol/Motrin
Neck Stiffness is normal and will go away when completely healed
Don't try to wash, brush, gargle away the bad breath
Avoid spicy foods, hot temperature food/liquids, fizzy/carbonated drinks
Voice will sound less "nasal" when healed
In rare situations may have temporary "leakage" of air or liquid into back of the nose
Usually no follow up visit (post op visit) is required

Dr. Liu, my 21 month old will have this procedure, as well as grommets inserted in about 2 weeks. He also has reflux and sometimes brings up food through his nose. Do you think he will be okay having this procedure done? Just a nervous first time mom here :)

I just had this surgery and am on day 3 post op. My throat hurts so bad. I’m in my 30’s. My nose is completely blocked like I cannot breathe through my nose and it’s just drainage of gross stuff. But the worst part besides throat pain is just having a completely clogged nose : ((( with a lot of pressure

Im 29. had my tonsils removed when I was 9.
I found out I have adenoids on head MR last year (which I did because I have MS). Until then I didnt know adenoids exist. I sent and email requesting orl appointment for nose endoscopy and hour ago. Im really scared of both the exam and posible adenoid/sinus polyp removal.
And also - I still snore even tho I had tonsils removed....

Oh man... I get a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy on Friday the 8th and watching videos is just making me nauseous. Surgery...of any kind makes me so squeamish. I'm so nervous 😓

@@ryanadkins1444 The surgery itself went flawless. But my recovery was so horrid to be honest. I couldn't eat ice cream because it hurt my throat too much and I couldn't eat like mashed potatoes because something about like the little filament textures of the potatoes was irritating my throat as well. It was very hard I mainly drunk super watered down chicken broth for like 3 weeks straight before I could actually start eating like "mushy" food like mashed potatoes... and then it took me another 2 weeks in order to eat solid food. I also couldn't speak for like a month because my throat hurt so bad and it was so raw... I cried a lot lmao very painful for me.

I experienced the same thing it took about 2 weeks for me to get better. I’m surprised I actually got my doctor to give me something for the pain.
