What really gets me is these scammers demonstrate a very poor grasp of the English language and yet,so many people fall for their crap.

Yes that's true. I saw one on Facebook recently. They want to be friends and their English is a dead giveaway lol. I hope that more people catch on and realize that they're catfish.

Plus their accents too. I never fall for it cause I spend my money on me. They said they pick it up. from somewhere which is not true. I d id not fall for the IRS Scam. I got a text message about the IRS Scam. & they said were filing a lawsuit against me.. I totally laughed at it. & They said I had a arrest warrant? I am like IRS do not have arrest warrants. They are not law enforcement. I ignored it.

I always wonder what would happen if the woman in a online relationship would ask the scammer for money. As soon as they tell you that they are rich you come with a sob story and ask them for a lot of money.

I saw the video on the Social Catfish site of the husband who believed a young woman had fallen in love with him and he was planning to leave his wife who was right there by her husband’s side in the video talking to the “Catfished” staff. His wife told him it was a scam but he didn’t believe her….he did seem more convinced when Social Catfish exposed the scam for him. What was surprising to me was that his wife stuck by him and stayed with him even after he shunned and disrespected her for the prospects of having a younger woman. I can’t believe his cyber affair didn’t damage his marriage.

    • @auntdiane1578

The wife is a very insecure, desperate, pushover to stay with a man that was trying to cheat on her. Too many women don’t think much of themselves and stay with men who offer them nothing in return but crap.

I have never lost any money. But I have had a lot of fun - I pretend I am blown away and in love, and then - boom- I tell them who they are and what they are doing. And they get really angry, and we are done. Very satisfying! 😄

Thank you Aunt Diane i have been watching romance scams for months now, at first it was something to watch until i realised the devastation of it all. I feel so sad for those people who have given all their money away. I play games online and am shocked at all the men who try to get you to set up a relationship with them on these games, fortunately i am not so trusting of a person who can't even be bothered to check google maps or in fact the english dictionary, or time zones, people just need to check everything and be aware.

I do the same thing that you do I play along with them. I let them get comfortable and we talk socially the best one that I get a kick is he you are talking for 2 or 3 days and they come out and say that they love you, I have to laugh, you are a very nice person and I enjoy and looking forward to hearing from you. Good luck on your channel I know you are going to do good because people need to hear these experiences.

I used to bait the IRS and Microsoft tech support scammers. I'd hold them on the phone for hours and made them believe I was a victim. They were so mad when they found out all their time was wasted lol I've heard from several scammers that they steal because "You people in the US are all rich". One even said "You live like Justin Bieber in a mansion" haha I wish! Most of those scammers are in India, and considering the currency exchange, even $1000 USD goes a very long way there. The people operating the phones don't keep the money - the bosses get it. The bosses are driving Lamborghinis and live in penthouses. It's sickening.

    • @auntdiane1578
      @auntdiane1578  Рік тому +1

Wow. They really do think we're all rich, don't they? I've had some would-be scammers try that on me too. Sometimes I would let them think that...and keep them hanging. I love hearing that you do that too. I agree that it's sickening to hear that their bosses in India are living the high life. I have many more antiscam videos that I make weekly on this channel. There are also many other channels that feature this type of content as well. It's like we're all ganging up on the scammers, and I love it.

Great video. Thanks. Scammers also ask their victims to access their FAKE bank account to see a huge FAKE amount, and make some FAKE payments for them. By doing that, they scam their victim into thinking that they have a lot of money. When you video chat with someone, always make sure to ask them to do something live that you can see, such as wave at you or hop on one foot, just so you can ascertain whether or not it is the real person talking to you and not a pre-recorded video they stole online

@@auntdiane1578 You are very welcome. I am an older person myself (63 and living in Ireland) but I work in the technology and media sector so savvy about scamming. I have watched the scammer episodes on Dr Phil and social catfish, and it just breaks my heart to see a lot of very sweet and genuine older people destroyed by the despicable actions of scammers. My late mum drilled the importance of being honest into us and made sure that we knew that money was not the sole route to happiness. The saddest thing about these scams is how the victims are broken, they often try to hide this when on the show but I feel that for many they will never get over the deception, never mind have the financial comfort in their old age that they had worked hard for all their lives.

I really do not mean this to sound rude, so please understand this.
Before anyone either joins a dating site or enters into conversation with someone she/he doesn’t know who sent them an unsolicited introduction on any site, it is IMPERATIVE to know how to use any-of-many FREE reverse image searches, and how to use Google to look up the name the person claims.
If any scenario sounds unlikely: working on oil rig and having funds “frozen,” MD (they usually refer to this in scammer world as “surgeon doctor,) military asking for money for things covered by military, and so many more, one must Google the scenario and please discuss (what you’re being asked to do) with family and friends whom you trust.
Social Catfish/Scamfish is NOT a social service agency; it’s a business. They charge to use their reverse image search, which anyone online can do for free.
They have a monthly subscription fee, again, to look up things can anyone can do free of charge.
When they take the cases you see in their YT channel, these people, who have already been scammed into giving away money, then pay Social Catfish to “research.”
It is clearly stated in their site that they “research” using publicly-available resources only.
They have no more skill or talent or resources than anyone else with online access.
    Essentially, they’re just another scam.
If you don’t know how to do these simple searches (it’s a search, not “research,”) please learn how to do these things.

Love bombing doesn't work for me. I don't like charming people or those who fall in love in days, weeks or months. I have enough since to research policies and protocols for military, oil rigs etc....

@@auntdiane1578 I was hit with a barrage of calls at work from people who were duped into wiring money to other countries to sell their timeshare located in that country. They did so despite their bank warning them they were being scammed by just going to western union to send money out. That's how I got interested in scammers and. found that the largest numbers of scams involve romance scams. In my work situation I was able to stop people from sending more money by having them speak to the building manager who confirmed there was no such real estate company in their building despite what their site claimed. As far as Romance scams I think social media should do more to warn people they could be being romanced by a Nigerian con artist and no matter what don't buy gift cards for them.

Absolutely. No legitimate business would ask for gift cards. And banks and Western Union should have stricter rules for sending money overseas. The scammers have even infiltrated social media. I can relate to all you are saying..I deal with POF scammers almost daily and I had to school my friend who had no clue about all the scammers tell to make their self believable. Hopefully she ( in her 70s) heeds my advice. Those dating site scammers are so fake I can't imagine anybody falling for it, but they do. And I feel so victims who have so much. The scammer that messed me up was a coworker..a real person that I know for a fact his background..I knew his parents..they dont know their son like they think they do. But one thing you said that's was so true, is these scammers using pictures being a 10 and coming after some old woman..i never get the 10s ( I'm 67) I get the dorky looking guys..I have not had one scammer yet use a picture of what i think is a good looking guy..bummer! But i play with them too like you did telling them you are where they are or something else that messes with their mind. And then they realize they screwed and vanish..i think I'm getting addicted to screwing with scammer heads..lol

Scamfish (what a dumb name) is the UA-cam channel made by a company called Social Catfish (also dumb name.)
      They’re a for-profit business, not a social service agency.
Not that there’s anything wrong with their being a business, but the reality matters.
They exist as a business to make money, not a social service agency.
These UA-cam videos are a tool for getting people to join their site, for a fee.
      These “investigations”cost hundreds-to-thousands of dollars.
Again, they saw a business opportunity and jumped on it. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Just so you know, as it’s stated on their site: they have access ONLY to publicly available records. We all can see the records and info they use.
It’s up to each to decide if it’s more empowering to search these photos, names, unlikely-to-bombastic scenarios themselves, or pay a business to do this stuff.
And it’s called search, not “research.”
      There is a difference.

Online dating is stupid and a waste of time and money. May I remind everyone the internet was invented in the late 1970's as a way for scientists who lived in different geographic areas to collaborate on research. The internet was never intended to substitute for face-to-face human interactions. Yes. Meeting people takes time and effort. You can't sit passively behind a computer screen and hope to meet anyone. Get off your ass and away from the computer and mingle with humanity. It's good for you and helps build interpersonal skills.

Not necessarily. The internet can be a great way to meet new people, especially if you lack the natural places to meet someone in real life or struggle with social anxiety. It all depends. I feel sorry for the family of the victims, who often end up paying the price as well. They often have to take in the ruined family member, or have to bear the cost and grief of funeral services in the event of a suicide, or they end up inheriting the debt left by their family members who was scammed.
Now bear in mind I don’t pity family members who willfully neglected said family member who was the victim of a scam, but for those who are busy with a family of their own (spouse, children, house, career, pets, etc.) or for those who tried to stop the family member from sending money to the scammer and were ignored or the whole thing was kept secret from them, I do pity them.
Sadly, for the family members who try to stop their loved ones from being scammed, often they can’t do anything unless they can hire a qualified lawyer to help them, a qualified doctor to declare the victim family member of unsound mind, and they have to use that to convince a judge to grant the family members power of attorney in order to stop their family member from sending money to the scammer, and that costs lots of time and money the family often doesn’t have.

The more publicity these scammers get, the better! I think there are very simple failsafes that are invaluable, if people used them, they wouldnt get to the point of checking out photos half the time! but people just seem reluctant to use them. If you are on a dating site...why on earth would you even communicate in the 1st place with anyone that doesnt live anywhere near you?..thats a really good initial clue for a scammer..if somewhere from miles away responds to them, a scammer knows one thing about you...that you are probably not too genuine about actually meeting someone, you are more interested in a bit of flattery and some chat..a good mark! Im glad you mentioned scamfish, their videos are very informative..we can all look at these people & say 'oh i'd never do that1'...but these people are professional con artists..you probably arent..so theres no shame in being taken in..but please at least put in a few unbreakable guidlines before you decide to respond to anyone you dont know. think about the last time you dated face to face...imagine going on a 2nd or 3rd date with a guy you really liked...if during that 3rd date he'd asked you to lend him $500 what would your reaction have been? Thats how you need to think. oh and one last failsafe...the minute someone calls you 'my queen'...block them! no arguing, no debating, no explaining, just block.

I’ve been thinking about setting up a fake older woman profile to fuck with scammers. If anything it’ll keep ‘em busy not scamming real people.

That would be fun, BUT please be careful to use different emails, different phone numbers etc. I'm even afraid to do certain things. You could get a scammer who is good at hacking computers, smartphones etc. And he could do real damage. Your safety should come first. 🙏❤

I messed with a few when I was on a dating site. got pretty deep in with a few LOL they were sending me fake docs (official bank with spelling mistakes) and fake bank accounts with their log in info. I would like to get back into when I have more time - they expect to love communicate daily.

Enjoyed your video! I had fun with it once w a person I knew was a scammer … I asked where ru located? Orlando. Great! So am I! What part of city? Downtown. Great so am I! I’ll meet you at so and so coffee shop. In reality I live in Seattle and never been to Orlando … but knew I was speaking to someone in another country and they wouldn’t know. Wasted 45 mins of their time before they disappeared! Lol

OMG. That is very upsetting. War crimes going on, victimizing innocent people. I dread the news, but we can't close our eyes. I continue to pray that this stops ASAP 😪

Oops. I was thinking of war injury from Ukraine. Now I realize it was a scammer showing someone else's injury, pretending it's him. For all we know, it could be a Ukrainian injury the scammer got from the news.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. I hope your friend has stopped falling for these scams. I played guitar and piano when I was younger, stopped for years, then started again last year. I don't intend to stop this time. I have a long way to go, however, before I can be considered "good" at playing. There are many great free guitar lessons on youtube. 😀🎸🎵
