I love watching from 10:15 to 11:15 -- just how fast the hopper was filling up with corn. Talk about visually illustrating your yield difference!
I was watching it thinking it almost looks like an illusion with how quickly it was dumping into the hopper
I thought the same. Something to hope for next year down here.

Reminds me of the stories my Grandpa would tell me about farming in the 50's, when they got a couple years of very early snow and late harvests. Absolutely miserable, out on an open-cab combine in parkas.

I was raised in Central Illinois in the 50s and 60s on a 900 acre farm, we had dryers too. All the stuff you are going thru we did on our scale and in our time. I saw this on You Tube was curious about the title Millennial Farmer. I left the farm in '67, went to school, got drafted and stayed out east to work as a Systems Engineer in Automation Technology. Watching you video reminds me of what i missed leaving the farm. I could have really gotten into the Farm Tech. Dad sold the farm when my younger brother dropped out, and then Dad passed away 2 years ago. He was drafted in '43 into the Marines and was wounded on Iwo Jima. He was a great guy and i miss him so much. A day does not go by that i don't have a memory jogged about life on the farm, fixing fence, hauling in Corn or Beans and baling hay, I learned so much from him. Your video is a treat to watch and heart warming to see the hard work is still alive, your Dad waiting in the hauler is so fun to hear. You take care and all the best. Nice you found some good corn 🌽. What a year. Hard to find a farmer not hurting. Please all you farmers fighting mud ,be careful. Wisconsin lost a young hard working farmer because he slipped in the mud. So very sorry for his family. Just breaks your heart. Please be as careful as you can.

Yes sir, you could tell you were in good corn looking out the back glass and watching that hopper fill up! Those folding headers are the ticket! I've been impressed with what I've seen of Capello headers!
That folding header seems like its the best invention since sliced bread.
Love watching your videos. As a young teen I worked on my uncle's farm in Wisc. I'm 70 Now. What a change. Open cabs no computers. Just fun to see the farming changes.

Ugh! What a difficult year it has been! From bad planting conditions in the spring, to bad summer conditions for growing, to awful conditions for harvesting. I'm sure plenty of farmers will be happy to put this year behind them. Best of luck with what you guys have left. Thank you for sharing it all with us.
Amazing how fast the Grain tank fills up. It has been many years since I have farmed, i am almost embarrassed to say the last corn I picked was wth a 324 New Idea Picker/sheller with a 125 bushel flair box pulled by an 1850 Oliver tractor. I kept two 80 bushel american batch dryers going 140 bushel yield at 25% moisture. Did 200- 300 acres of corn each year. Every year was a grind, but wet ones were a nightmare. Enjoy your cabs with heat. love your videos. THANKS for keeping an old ex farmer up to date on how things work now.
Good luck. While y'all were wet down south we've been dry and didn't have a single day of downtime during harvest. I hope it drys up for y'all. We even combined most of our corn at around 10% moisture

Looks good. We had our red machine elevator chain break, alarm didn't sound, thus plugged. Happened with 45 acres to go and snow called for. Snow came about an hour & half before fix. Now snowed out. Running between 25% & 28%. Not the greatest yesld this year either, grade 2 some 3. Wish you the best with yours & stay warm.

The perks from this You Tube thing just keep getting better and better!!! I figured when you were lowering those snouts the next scene was going to be well I I folded under a snout but sofar so good ! Just saw an ag news flash about an LP shortage in Minnesota long lines and going out of state to get it , are you on natural gas , haven't paid any attention to wether there is LP tanks around your dryer or not ! When you were still running in the snow I was relieved when you quit , of course having that beautiful shop makes it a lot easier to thaw it out !! Fortunately the snow has come and gone here just cold for now ! Funny how freezing can be so good for one operation and completely shut down the other !! Thanks for the video !
We had it bad, too. It was late planting I think for everybody. Had to wait a few days here and there for snow - got it all in before it got bad, though. Potatoes got a little frost bit, early spring rain was so hard it washed out the herbacides so there was tons of nightshade in the beans. The only thing that went right was the corn. Now there's 2ft plus of snow on the ground... Wyoming....

I work for a farmer just north of the border, in fact we are right on the border. We farm 5000 acres of canola, wheat, soy beans and corn. I watch your videos and I can totally relate. I have videos of combining in blizzards where I could not see the combines so I would have to keep track of who I emptied last and find him and follow unless his header was plugged with mud. We have 640 acres of corn that we have to combine in spring. We're hoping for a much better 2020. Love your videos although I love red tractors and yellow combines.

Zach, can't help but sympathize with you and your dad this fall, been through a wet harvest or two myself, the whole time wishing I hadn't bitched about the drought years. You asked about fall tiillage and for comments as to it's value, and having been around heavy soil myself would only say the worst job you due in the fall, will be better than any job in the spring. Soil temps come up quicker and the seed bed however you plant will be much better.

The problem here in Northern Iowa is shortage of propane. Elevators are out and full of wet corn. Farmers with dryers are at a standstill. A lot of corn is still in the fields and was planted late and is wet. I'm waiting for our local to start taking corn, they been waiting 10 days to get propane and are completely out.
Hahaha because I have a folding header. Hey I live in Des Moines,IA. My mom worked for John Deere Credit back in the day. So I grew up in the city but went out to a few farms and got to hang out during harvest. Now that I’m older and have to adult now I don’t have time for that. But I have plenty of time to watch your outstanding videos. I haven’t miss one since last year’s harvest with the challenger. Oh hey it’s the Marine Corps Birthday Sunday so can we get a shot out. YYUUUUTTTTT!!!!

I was watching my local news and seen your story on you helping your neighbor that passed away.
After harvest could you do another equipment tour updating the hours on the machines and say how many bushels your grain bins hold

I'm from the ski industry, where we have problems similar to your snow going thru the feeder house and thresher. We have found that snow grooming often works best when the snow is coldest. It means getting up at 3AM and starting a machine which has been chilling down outside for the night, but the colder, drier snow flows thru the tiller better. Like yours, our cabs are heated and we have enormous lighting systems, but the auto steer is still under development.
It just might work for you. Park the combine outside to chill and go to bed early. Get up in the wee hours and see if that snow will go thru the thresher without melting and refreezing. If it does not work, you can blame crazy skiers.

Ugh. Snow corn. Been there done that. But not since I was a little kid back in the 80s. Too bad there wasn’t some kind of heat system that you could run on the sieves that would keep them dry and not “moist” and sticky in the wet crap that you’re going through. I was running a disk ripper last night in corn stalks till around 11pm. ( west of Minneapolis about 50 miles)There was no frozen ground other the spots in the field the drowned out and were bare. I moved over to a soybean field and had to shift down a gear because of frost. I enned up breaking a couple of bolts and a shank at different times throughout the night. Finally called it quits at 6am as the frost was about 4" deep. Unless it warms up significantly there won't be any more bean ground plowed, maybe some more corn ground but with the predicted lows that looks iffy too.
Luckily over in Vermont we got things cleared up pretty good and quick before the snow. First snowfall was last night we got lucky this year.
I can’t believe how fast that window filled up around 11:00. Here in MD we’re working on second crop soybeans and we go 20-30 minutes without having to dump

Another great video, but you have had one hell of a year. I was out in Omaha this week and flying in, there was still a lot of standing water. I was told it didn’t flood again, it just never went away.

I vaguely remember being on my grandpa’s farm as a kid and I remember stalk chopping, rip, disk/harrow but he also did some no till stuff and seamed to have good luck with it

Folding headers are a really good investment too. Just factor the time you save by not hooking up and unhooking to road travel. Not needing another vehicle and trailer or driver. Saves a lot of time.
