Happy bday
Happy birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊 mate
Bring the 240 back to life. It's a classic!
That car looks solid. You tube Rev will cover whatever you do to her. Bring her all the way back plz. Beautiful old classic
That car is a tank. Those old diesel MB's are battlebred. Great buy. Really like your vids.
Hard to find one like in such great condition for such low price even here in Europe.. My uncle had a 1980- W123 280-TE estate brought from new (a nice sparkling metallic Green +walnut interior he kept it in mint condition but after he died (RIP) auntie sold it to an old dentist doctor, after a period i tried to reach to it and re-buy it back for myself but the man does not want to sell it no more since still runs in pretty nice condition and is almost great to this day.. So, if Randy got such luck to find this beauty fix some little issues a fresh paint and white wall tires that 240D will not just look great but pretty much will run forever, these cars were simply build like tanks.. and after all, if he decide to let it go & sell instead of keeping it, he will definitely be sorry for it.. ;0)
Hi randy I'd like to see the m painted randy she worth it mate
Yee so true it's a real tank and car ✌️🤘
You have to spend a little bit of time and cash on your 240D, they are great cars.
Used all over the world as taxis, it was not unusual to see them with over a million miles clocked up, they really are bulletproof.
Besides, once it has had a paint correction (not sure you need to get it resprayed?) and a thorough valet, you won't want to sell it anyhow.
These old cars make you change your driving style, for the better I'd say, you just mellow in them and the MPG is fantastic.
Go for it, let's see her shine once more!!
Great videos.
The Mercedes with a 4 speed was probably built for the European market. Most 240Ds in the states were automatic. For that reason alone it’s worth fixing up. Content content content. I watch it all
A lot of base cars were 4 speeds in the states. I also had one but it was a 1973 220D model.
No. There were a lot of manual 240D's in the states. I had two of them.
You must have missed the US headlights... A lot of 240Ds in a US were manual too. I don't think you know anything about these cars
Do a valve adjustment....it helps these cars tremendously
Damn man, she‘s a keeper! She deserves to live!
A w123 in that shape for that kind of money would be a dream in Germany
That is true.. Es stimmt
She’s a keeper man you’ll love it. Greta won’t be happy but we are lol
That's definitely worth painting Randy. They are fetching good money these days...she will be a lovely desirable example when completed.
You know this is THE diesel car of all diesels right ?
In Europe the 240D was the most sold. However they rot in European climate. Yes they are dead slow but it is a tough little engine it will just go and go.
This car will never die if you just give it basic maintenance.
This one you should keep - it is an icon.
Love that old Diesel Randy!
I love these old Mercedes Diesels....I had a 79 300d and an 81 300sd. Both sets of my grandparents had Mercedes Diesels. One set had 2 220d's and a 240d. My other grandparents had a 300cd. My uncle had a 300td station wagon.
My uncle currently has a w124 300d
That's a beautiful old Benz diesel, Randy. I would love to see more content on her. To me, these types of cars are way more interesting that yet another Hellcat video, which seem to be all over YT. Maybe in 30 years, (if i'm still alive, doubtful) I'll feel the same way about Hellcats. :)
Sounds like my peuegeot 205 lol which is also a diesel
That's from back when they were easy to work on.
Randy this one looks great! i love this w123!!! i think you should paint it and actually brink her back to life!
I love those old Mercedes. Glad to see that you're going to give her a fresh paint job. You probably won't make any money off of it, but I think you watching her go back on the road will be worth the money. Great video, Randy!
Those old Merc diesels are dead reliable and will run forever with proper care. A keeper for sure. I'd suggest a fuel system purge as well. The mercedessource channel has a couple vids on how to do it.
Bring it back to it's glorious days. I was in love with it the first time I saw it in one of the earlier episodes. Would have bought straight up. $2k is nothing for this car. Expecting for more videos on it
I asking 4500, for mine,no title tho....but it runs,it need some tlc,1977 300CD 2 door.. automatic transmission.....!
Wow i just love that bodystyle. In my country in my childhood, 98% of the taxis in the country were this bodystyle and engine.I would love to see more content with this doll you 've got. Nicely done. Thanks for the content Randy. Stay safe stay healthy.
Great video! Missing my 79 240d. Had same issues with my old diesel and few other gauges. But loved it , they are pretty fun cars. It’ll be cool to see her getting new paint and all. Happy to see you enjoying this car.
Thank you for posting 😊
CLEANING , MAACO , THATS IT !
8 grand right there for you !
CONGRATULATIONS!
Most dependable car ever made, you can't kill it. And the design is beautiful in it's simplicity. You got yourself a deal..
A great buy! That car obviously loves to run :) I agree with everybody;make it great again, and enjoy it.There is money to be made, when you decide to sell it.
I love that Merc Randy, it brings one of the best engines made by Mercedez Benz, it will run forever. Good cotent to come.
I’ve been driving those old Mercedes since I was 18yrs old and now I’m 35yrs still driving them. I own a 1983 300D and those are seriously one of the best cars ever built if not the best built in terms of simplicity, reliability, quality, longevity and styling. Definitely get those valves adjusted and that would make a difference. I think you would fall in love with that car if you keep it.
That 240D has hidden depths. Looks like it is rust free too. Keep it and paint it. It will still be running when every thing else has stopped. A great car.
We would love to see this car come back to life good job randy nice content am really loving you’re videos every time.
I love the old Mercedes. I would love to see her restored and back to life. It'll be great content
i'd love to see that old thing brought back! that's why i love this channel, you bring back these old forgotten cars that nobody really cares about... but like you said there's just something about em
TY once again Randy! I love watching you put these cars back on the road for you or others to keep on enjoying.
Love the Benz. Great buy . she's a keeper. Fix air widow and grill left front hub cap paint. A real sweetheart
Phenomenal old Benz....when German cars were exceptional and Mercedes was the indisputable king of quality and build. How many Mercedes made post 1996 will make it half as far as the 240D? Zero
Most pre 2006 diesel Benz will
Also about that fuel gage: My uncle’s 240d has this on/off thing as well. It’s the thingy in the gas tank that floats up and down depending on how much gas is in there. They tend to seize up in there. I’m gonna have to ask him about the details though.
Uhm, diesel tank. Sorry.
@@thedaimlerden The wire sometimes gets stuff built up on it, and the float can no longer float up and down. sometimes it's as easy as wiping the wire down. Carefully, they are brittle.
Definitely would love to see more content on the 240D! Looking forward to seeing it all shined up with a fresh paint job!
These Mercedes still run 500,000 miles in the Middle East and Africa. That was still quality ...
Make it beautiful again!
Love these things! Classic old Merc. Great find!
Randy that’s a classic right there with Bomb proof mechanics will run for ever with TLC👍🇬🇧😎
Awesome old Benz! You could drive that thing to the moon and back and it wouldn't let you down!
W123 ex-owner here! Currently own a W124 diesel. You just bought virtually the most reliable Mercedes ever made. The OM617 is literally indestructible, and the 240 is the most reliable (and slower) of them all, and with a manual transmission, it won't take you fast, but it will take you far. Man, that car will outlive us all. The only thing that kills those old Benzes is rust. If you have any weird problems with things not working check for vacuum leaks before start tearing anything apart. These cars rely heavily on vacuum so if you have a vacuum leak many things will go haywire. To regain power replace the 3 diesel filters ASAP, check accelerator cable for slack and CHECK VALVE CLEARANCE!!! Did I mention that these cars rely heavily on vacuum?
That 240D is a beautiful machine
Keep it and work on it.
Keep the maintenance videos also coming as I am looking forward to them
Don't sell Merc. You have a oil filter in power steering pump clean it and change oil completely.Change oil in brakes, gearbox & diff
Love the Merc, can't wait for more!
Awesome Mercedes Randy. After having a turbo diesel myself I can say that any diesel Mercedes will always get you home. Would love to see a paint job and some life brought back into this 240. Glad to see that you got it as well these old ones really can become favorites after a while.
Excellent !! ... Get the paint sorted , a good detail and service and away you go ....Profit all the way ..... I hope the fuel tank doesn't have an issue with algae growth inside as they often do !
Absolutely bring it to a new level. TLC goes a long ways.😎
LOOOOOVE this one!!! It's a tank! ❤️
Ive got an 82 300d turbo bought for $2200. Slowly have nursed it back to roadworthy condition over the past few months. Its my daily now and has gotten me back and forth many times several hundered miles from college. great car
Randy, I am so glad you got this car, looking forward to seeing it more on the channel, you are the Copart King!
This thing makes me so happy, if I could I would buy it today XD
Get a hold of Monkey Wrench Mick he be able to help you with the car
Beautiful Mercedes! Nice video! Im waiting the next video! Have a nice day!😊👍
I would like to see the 40D come back to life. It seems like a series I that is worth watching
Love from India sir love you're videos ❤️
The Mercedes looks just like the one my female salesman drove when I hired her. She was 6'2 and liked to wear heels, we nicknamed her Squatch and called her Mercedes The Squatchmobile
Haha. Squatch mobile lol!
Love that old Mercedes!! I hope all is well Randy.
The car looks in good shape. A paint job and some repairs. Will bring it back to life. Thanks for another great video.
Dam it looks great after the wash. Please paint it the same color looks good that color
+it matches the blue interior. ;0)
Randy fix everything it is worth fixing such a great merc .
My dad had one….cream in pristine condition 👌🏼👌🏼
Driving down from Zimbabwe to South Africa one day he hit a cow.
Days before cellphones.
That old merc saved my parents lives. They are built panzer tanks.
2 months later it was fully restored and lived to fight another decade before he sold it on again……
Fond memories…….😁😁👍🏻
Nice. My mom has a white 1982 240d automatic good cars there. Like the blue on it. Glad to see this one saved by u cant wait to see the plans on it randy.
Many times fog lights will not come on if the bright lights are on. Don't European cars usually use black wall tires? White wall tires seems to be wrong for this car. The Mercedes will be hard to sell for what you put in it. However, it does deserve to be refurbished.
I agree on the whitewalls.
Whitewalls should be period correct for mid- '60's cars but coming to '83 these cars def. had no whitewall tires. But... it's a real classic for sure!
Now thats what i call a Mercedes... brings back memories of another era... go on Randy show it some love and make it REALLY live again.....
What a good old boy that Mercedes-benz is.It will probably run forever, they are tanks.
Love it
Bring this car back to life! Love these old Mercedes diesels!
I really love it. I appreciate that you brought it to your home. I love it so much. I used to have myself one. These things are great. Mine had 316k on the odometer. That's a lot don't you think? And it still ran like a top
Thanks for your dedication!
Even in the 1950's if you saw a Mercedes diesel you could count on it belonging to a doctor. Reliable to a fault and that was when Doctors made house calls night or day in all kinds of weather. I think it's worth doing but it's not my money. Thank you for bringing back another old road warrior.
Andy over at Farming Fixing and Fabricating said UA-cam is his hobby, The farm is where the real work is.
Hi Randy ! I drove those when they were new . The 240D is a great cruiser . It's best features are : it is very comfortable , and it a great long distance car . If you decide to keep it you won't be sorry. If you sell it you'll get top dollar as the used market is definitely in your favor . Randy , your channel is great ! Keep it up and good luck !
A friend of my dad had the same one, but gold and absolutely clean. He recently died just 2 months ago, the car was given to the scrapyard.
I´m from Germany and I love Mercedes almost since i was born. This one is a very pretty one. Those Diesels make about 600000 Miles and they where used as Taxis in Germany in the 80`s.
I`d love to have one in this condition. Enjoy this Car and greetings from Germany.
Love the 240D! I owned an ‘83 240D manual for 10 years. What a great car and I regret selling it. I say get it running strong before anything cosmetic. New filters and diesel purge will do wonders as will a valve adjustment. And change the oil ASAP! The engine shut off is vacuum operated - so simple like the rest of the car. Look forward to the next video.
bring the 240D back to life
I personally own a 1983 240d just like yours except I stickshift swapped the car when the automatic blew up on my brother and it was a hand-me-down. I learned a lot and me and my father have been w123 and w126 enthusiasts for the past 8 years and know a few people who know these cars inside and out if you need any help let me know. And yes please preserve this car, a classic Mercedes is not built for power and speed like a hellcat its for someone who enjoys quality craftsmanship and the pleasure of driving something unique. Remember its not about how fast you get there or how much power is underneath the hood, it's about enjoying the ride and the sights you'll see while the car floats you down the road. These cars are pretty much bulletproof if you take care of them i.e. fluids and filters. And in your case that car is even rarer because its a 4 speed manual almost all of the w123's sold in the US market were all automatics because the car was viewed as a luxury vehicle for lazy Americans, the 4 speed was an option. On a final note yes you are correct a tune up on a diesel is changing the fuel filters and oil, that car has 3 fuel filters, two up front and a tank strainer in the bottom of the tank I highly suspect your power problem is from the old diesel in the tank turning to algae and restricting flow to the mechanical fuel pump through the tank strainer. Change the air filter, fuel filters, remove the tank strainer and inspect it, and do a proper valve adjustment. Those are the 4 basic things and should make a good bit of difference in acceleration and be sure to check the timing chain stretch while doing the valve job make sure its not loose, otherwise replace it before the piston high fives the valves. At any rate, welcome to the Mercedes diesel club and enjoy your new old-school ride and happy motoring!
I'm amazed that the blue dashboard isn't cracked at multiple places. And the rest is just solid as a rock, and even the engine looks amazing clean, well, when you look through the dirt
because some soap and a pressurewasher and some spray on shine will make that all look like new, and then it needs a respray and probably all new rubber seals and bushes
and then this car is good as new.
I bought a 1985 380SE in San Diego in August and drove it all the way home to Tennessee without ac. I was driving the Southern route home hugging the Mexican border. At 10pm I thought the heat was on, I reached up and directed some sunroof air into my face, wow!!! It was like a blow dryer. The air temp gauge said 108.5 at 10pm. Also the road sign said, at sea level.
I’ve made 3 of these trips to fly to California to buy a car and drive it home. The 3rd trip was for a 1994 S500 coupe. I thought I was going to die in Milan New Mexico. It will take me a few more months to forget about it before I go again!
Paint it, also the grills are serviceable, each part can be ordered for it.
Randy thanks for another good & Entertaining video the car is a keeper more content on the car
It is a classic . Bring it back to life .
New paint tires , detail and polished chrome. Will be looking fantastic
Love the 240d. Best car mb have ever made! 71hp 101 torque . Keep the 240d because they are rare and old and reliable. Old faithful you got there 1977-1985
I am truly enjoying the content on the Mercedes 240D, but I always enjoy the content on the pre-2000 model year vehicles.
Please keep that Mercedes. They are beautiful affordable classics. I have one and I'm in love with it
The 240D is a keeper. They are tanks and built to go a gazillion miles. In many eastern European and African countries they are still used as taxis.
In the power sterring pump there is a filter. Make sure you replace that when you do the engine oil and filter. There's no telling when the last time that PS filter was replaced.
Had one in the middle 80’s ,my wife loved it. Kept it for 5 years the only thing is you have to replace the oil cooler lines on it. I found out the hard way when one blew and she drove it until a rod started knocking had to rebuild the engine. But it was a great car. 😎
If you're doing a tune-up on it later on, check the valves too, probably won't hurt anything, those engines love to get a valve job once and again :)
Beautiful Benz, Randy!! That bus-like steering wheel is worth the price of admission.!! 👍👍👍
Love the diesel randy wish I had that car in belize central america
If I had the money I'd buy it right away
Nice buy! I'm from Europe and my hobby is fixing diesel cars, doing OBD diagnostics and stuff, it's sorta a partly job, even though I'm only 18. I'd recommend you putting some diesel fuel additive in that fuel tank so the fuel system would get cleaned up some! Also check for some cracked vaccuum hoses.
You got a great car there Randy. One thing that these cars greatly benefit from is a valve adjustment. Kent over at MercedesSource makes a great set of value adjustment wrenches but it can be done without them. That, and a diesel purge should really help with bringing back some of its power.
My uncle loaned us his 190D...loaded it , drove it from Alaska thru to Fla....40+ mpg..cruised at 80 SILENTLY.... WAS BULLETPROOF...and met it's end against a Volvo 544 , after traverse again across USA... saved our lives and opened Volvo like a cracked egg...oh my
71hp from new.
Probably lost a few horses in 38 years.
You might be lucky to get 60hp currently.
But what a solid car. Love them. 🥰
i enjoy every video you make Randy!
From the days when Mercedes meant quality! Make her proud and beautiful again Randy!!
Jeez 2002! Our freightliner MT45 had one tire that wasn't replaced because the "tread was still good" and it was a michelin from 2002. Glad we got a new set. The state we bought it from doesn't require inspection but that will not fly here in Pennsylvania
Thank you for saving her! Even tho expensive, it’s worth it! Keep up the hard work
These older cars are the best! Great video man
Glad you rescued this Benz diesel!! Hopefully it makes good content!!
Yes i really want to see the Mercedes painted and fixed up this is why I wat h this channel love seeing all the diffrent cars you do
I remember working on a 300d back when I was at firestone. To this day it’s the slowest thing I’ve ever driven! I remember thinking the same thing as you about whether or not it was suppose to be that slow and if something was wrong with it. Great cruiser though.
hell yeah bring her back to life love the classics
On older Mercedes diesel engines models: 1975 to 1976 115 chassis 300D, all 123, 126, 201 and 124 chassis diesels from 1977 to 1993 the engine shutoff is controlled by vacuum (not electrical). An engine driven pump supplies vacuum to the system and a vacuum operated shutoff valve shuts fuel off inside the injection pump. That means the problem could be related to the vacuum pump, the engine shutoff valve, blocked vacuum hoses/lines, or leaks in the system that prevent adequate vacuum from getting to the valve.
in my books, that's gold right there. Great find my friend.
that is one nice person to let you use his tools, now i got to get a old 240d. love it so much but bring her back to life.
