- This is track 8 from the 1982 album "I Fooled You This Time" orginally released on her 1981 debut solo album "Alicia".
Written by Kevin McCord
Alicia Myers' parents, Margaret Myers and the late Lawrence Myers, bought musical instruments for their talented children with hopes that they might become professional entertainers. Little did they know, their middle child Alicia, born November 20, 1957, would not only become an internationally known recording artist, but a survivor of breast cancer, and childhood tuberculosis.
In April 1968 at age 10, Alicia and her older brother Jackie won first place in a talent show at Detroit's Martin Luther King Jr., HS, singing Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell's Ain't Nothin' Like the Real Thing. They later formed a band (The Move Mystics) and a girl trio (The Mild Tones) performing throughout the Detroit area until they disbanded in 1975.
Alicia continued singing solo until 1978 when she became a lead vocalist with Al Hudson & The Soul Partners -- now One Way. For three years she traveled, co-wrote and sang lead on several popular hits such as You Can Do It, Music, and Do Your Thang on MCA/Universal Records. They performed to sold-out audiences throughout Africa, Canada, Europe, and the United States. Impressed with Alicia's raw, three-octave, alto voice and the escalating public interest, MCA Records decided it was time for a solo project.
The outcome was her phenomenal 1981 debut album, Alicia, produced by One Way's bassist/writer, Kevin McCord. This album brought us such wonderful hits as the gospel/soul I Want To Thank You (Heavenly Father), Don't Stop What You're Doin' and If You Play Your Cards Right. Alicia recorded four successful albums with MCA/Universal throughout the 1980's.
Her I Appreciate album contains the soulful ballads Don't Do Me This Way, and I Just Can't Stay Away (by Natalie Cole). Her smash release, Say, Say, Say, topped Billboard's R&B charts peaking at 3. The New Music Awards also nominated her Best Female Artist of 1984. She has toured with Ashford & Simpson, The O'Jays, Peabo Bryson, The Whispers, and the late Roger Troutman of Zapp.
Heavenly Father, for shining your light on me.
1981, this song touched me when I was 14. ❤❤❤❤ Still does, I am 58. 🙏 😊
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. (James 1:17)

I want to thank you Gospel Nostalgia, I have been through years of doubt through my teenage years, sometimes life Is unbearable. By chance I heard a gospel song from your channel and slowly day by day I can feel God's presence in my life again, I know he never left me, but thanks to your uploads I am able to find comfort in God once again when times get tough. I'm not a perfect Christian but I hope God loves me, even if he does not Gospel music makes me feel as though I am in his arms when I'm so far from home and all alone. Thank you Gospel nostalgia.
God bless you. Prior to this, my response to you, I prayed for you. God has you on His mind. You did NOT "by chance" hear the song at this channel nor am I by chance responding to you now. It's all Him. It is He that is conducting all of this. Glory to His name. Please do me a favor and listen to this: ua-cam.com/video/5-r4bPbVdSk/v-deo.html and read this: smcid.net/testimonies/terrydean/Jesus_Came_to_Me.htm and please get back with me. God bless you.

This is one of my favourites songs first heard around 2013 or so...was featured in an inspirational movie about women who were prisoners although was serving some time in prison, they were also doing firefighter duties outside of prison!!! They were singing this song (which was playing in the background) in the prison bus going back to the prison after a near death fire experience!!!! I always was wondering what was this song after I realized that the lyrics was talking about The Lord, I was shocked because the part they was singing was the first verse!! I was like I gotta look up this song HOPING that it wasn't a made up song that was only for the movie that won't be included in the soundtrack!!! Lol The Movie is a 2012 TV movie titled "Firelight", starring Cuba Gooding Jr, exc producer is Alicia Keys. This song was also known to be sampled by Mariah Carey for her 1991 gospel hit "Make It Happen" which was a bit of the piano (slowed down a bit) and some of the lyrics. In fact, Mariah Carey had a lawsuit filed against her by songwrigter of this song Kevin McCord back in 1994. Ten years later (2004), she (Mariah Carey) was accused of plagiarism.
To be honest, both songs are amazing!!! What a wonderful treasure this is!!! Thanks for sharing this brother!!!! 😃🙌👏👍😀
I always thought Mariah sampled it because make it happen had a similar sound.
I love Make it happen it's still one of my favorite Mariah Carey songs.
@@musiclover-cn7tb yes! It's true! I always used to wonder what song Mariah Carey song remind me of! 😃👍🏾
