I ordered a few picks from Patrick back in 2016 and they changed the way I played from that point onward. The amount of power I was able to generate just by using those picks was astonishing and carried over when I resumed using conventional picks. The man is a living legend. Thanks for this documentary!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm truly humbled to hear how the picks have impacted your music. It's feedback like yours that inspires me to continue crafting with passion and dedication!
My god was this a high quality video, you have a good eye for filmmaking, and bringing more eyes to tiny builders is exactly what the community needs, thank you for what you're doing and please keep it up!
I just got some of Patrick's plectrums not long ago, the torlon is definitely a unique experience. So much respect for the work that goes into his plectrums and guitars. I really want to try one of his guitars. Noticed some used ones listed in Japan at shops so I may pop in and try one during my trip next month!
Haven't been fortunate enough to get my hands on one of his builds, but have owned a few of his picks and they are fantastic! Crazy how a simple change of picks can improve your playing for the better. Tone and comfort, both.
Couldn’t agree more that Patrick is the most innovative and talented guitar builder in Europe and the world really. Patrick built me the Kelly inspired guitar pictured in this video and it is my most prized possession and has spoiled me for other guitars. He was a pleasure to deal with and it was fun to watch his progress during the build on social media. I’m glad to see his work featured so prominently here in this format. Truly great to see him get the credit he deserves.
luthiers like hufschmid and hapas remind me that there are still people who really care about guitars as an instrument and not a commodity. thank you for this video
I have multiple hand problems, so huge respect just for the idea and thought process behind the picks, unfortunately, I'm a bass player and picks are forbidden. I get real Carl Thompson vibes from Patrick. A man so in love with his craft that it just oozes from every pore. If they haven't meet, I truly hope they do before Carl passes on. He's in his 80's now... Please, luthier gods, make it happen.
Brother I see people using picks all the time while playing bass.. I wouldn't say that it's forbidden and maybe it's because I don't like the idea that there isn't a law that says that you are committing a crime So just do what you feel is right for you and play how you want man. It's your life and choice. Much love brother ✌🏿
Nice guy! As a chemist I've used PEEK a lot, and while it is quite hard and resonant its not quite indestructible ;) The fretboard looks quite flat, is it 20 in radius or truly flat?
Thanks for your interest! I'd like to clarify that PEEK is indeed very durable, making it an excellent choice for parts like a guitar nut, which is virtually indestructible in such applications. As for the fretboard radius, it's actually 12 inches, not flat or 20 inches in radius.
@@HufschmidGuitars Wow my eyes deceived me on the fretboard, maybe the psychedelic markers distracted me. Its a nice guitar and obviously a passion project. I wish you a good balance of art and commerce.
Aww man, I didn't know he offered a custom Kelly style along with the Iceman, as if I needed another reason to daydream about owning one of Hufschmid's guitars.

I really really try to avoid being critical of guitar builders. And this is a mostly great looking guitar. But it looks like his starting prices are over 3k usd. The string ferrules on the back of the guitar are not hoe they should be on a 3k+ guitar. And it's not a terribly hard thing to get right
@@bwa_8 from what I know a lot of multiscaled instruments have an angle with the 7th or 8 string being the most distanced to accommodate the longer scale. Something along those lines. If you look at 8 strings by Ibanez the 8th and 7th strings are the only ones not aligned with the other 6.
@@davids2629 I see what you mean, but that's not what we have here. The alignment is quite random and also the spacing. Absolutely near what the title suggests, each guitar Patrick has built in the past year or so has had some sort of innovation in it that has never (or rarely) been done before. On this guitar in particular it's the inlay design along with the CNC-carved honeycomb Richlite top.
@@sixstringtv1 I was referring to the fact that luthiery is a wide ass field and I think talking about an electric only luthier and saying he's the greatest is pretty uninformed, I've seen a lot of quite frankly huninged guitars over the last few years and a lot of luthiers would in my mind take this cake, but it's one man's opinion, you can't possibly see everything that has been made in a lifetime, Luthiers do incredible stuff and this is what the message should be Imo
An innovation by definition is just introducing a new product or method of doing something, so what you would call it personally is your thing, but while I do agree that other builders have built some crazy ass shit, doing something new with EVERY build is what sets Patrick apart. As opposed to building a cool one-off thing to show off on social media and then going back to building regular spec guitars. Still glad you enjoyed the video habibi 🫡
Soft wood.... Not the best, but very easy to cut in ☝️ A copy of the Ibanez Steve Vai.... They did cheep rg guitars with body drilling in same way (so ugly). Fixed bridge...because people don't know how to play guitar anymore ☝️ Van Halen did his own guitar and so did Yngwie Malmsteen and i myself build my own guitar because i know what i want ☝️
not everyone who uses fixed bridges cant play guitar. they aren't mutually exclusive you know :'D some people who record or play alot of sessions like myself just want stable tuning.
Soft wood? Richlite is a synthetic compound that although perhaps softer than the bastard hard woods (Gabon ebony, ironwood, purpleheart) isn't far off maple and is very dense, and the mahogany type woods (sipo & sapele) are hard enough for guitar construction, with some individual pieces being harder than maple.
Aristides is an injection moulding company that happens to make instruments. They're cool, but they pour liquid into a guitar-shaped tub and add pickups to it.
I think what bwa_8 is getting at: They are trying something new / different. I'm sure Patrick's guitars are excellent, he has a great eye for detail, but there are a lot of builders building these blackmachine-y types of guitars. That should not distract from him trying out some cool materials and solutions, but I would not call it groundbreaking or revolutionary.
@@sixstringtv1 Pfff, that's a pitiful response. I could tell you this guy is making a copy of Ibanez JEM with a top made of recycled material, and the hexagonal pattern, wow 🥱. Btw, at 4:38, you can see how well the instrument is crafted by not having the holes aligned at the back of the guitar.
