I love that you show us your "less successful" Orchids as well! It is good for moral support of the masses. Thank you for everything!
Clay pot helped me a lot with Colmanara Masai Red. I got it in a peak of Summer (34-36'C) 🤦♀️ last year and strugled to get it established...roots would just stop growing and die. Eventually placed the orchid in a full sphag (but very light and airy) in a clay bowl sitting over a shallow dish with water. The clay would wick the water from the dish and moisten the moss. This system worked like magic! Roots started to grow and branch straight away! So I am pretty sure your cool growers will be happy with the new set up! 🤞🤞🤞
I have several orchids, got my first 12 years ago. I have just been lucky they have done as well as they have, I had no knowledge. Found your channel recently and I have learned so much! Just repotted them all and I’m excited to see how they do with the right medium, new pots, good light and moisture. Thank you for the great information you give!
I truly enjoy all your videos, you're so honest and humble. If you want to keep spider mites and thrips at bay get yourself an Alocasia and a Calathea, I swear those are such pest magnets no spider mite would prefer sucking on orchids if there's an Alocasia around :)
I have purchase a miltoniopsis a couple different times and killed them each time. They are my most favorite scented orchid. I hope to try again whenever I can find one (they are hard to find in my area).
I really have enjoyed watching your videos. i just found your channel recently and also became an orchid momma myself about 6 months ago with a radican epidendrum, it bloomed Easter Sunday for me!
Wow, thanks for the heads up on the Den. cuthpertsonii as I just ordered one. Will definitely keep it in cool place. Pete from Canada
I really appreciate all you post. I've learned so much! After repoting in ceramic pots with moss and bark, my miltoniopsis orchids are finally deciding to stay alive :) However, the new one from the store has its white roots turning black near the base of the bulb. I plan to repot it using your technique of spraying it with hydrogen peroxide. Then praying. Thank you for all your help.
Love this video on cool growers. Thank you. I am going to get some cool growers at some point and I really don't need the clay pots as I am in a cool place. Looking forward in seeing them in bloom.
I was glad to hear your theory about straight sphagnum moss. I have a few orchids potted that way thinking I was improving their situation, but I do have to water almost every other day. I think I will try repotting to add some bark.
For some reason I never realized these were cool growers. That explains why the ones in black pots near the window were suffering.
Love the lil Joey interruptions :D also got a disa orchid and gonna be repotting it in clay in hopes for the best conditions don’t have any experience with them yet
I want to purchase a Dendrobium Victoria-reginae seedling and mount it on a piece of bark.
But it is good to know that they are cool growers!
At orchids online they have Odontoglossum naevium that they grow in pretty warm conditions and the seller says they're going crazy with growths and roots and blooms, this could be a nice one for you! Good luck with the ones you have, you've made some good improvements despite some persisting issues, things will work out and you're gonna keep that nelly isler
Such good information. I grow a lot of cool loving orchids and I shall experiment with a few in clay pots. I just remove the calcium deposits with a toothbrush. Thank you for sharing.🤗
Nice Video! And well done with the Nelly Isler, it looks very healthy! I am also considering re-potting it before it gets too warm...very undecided:)
How do you manage the temperature and humidity with these orchids? Do you have a special setup for those, or just the regular for all the orchids?
I love your channel !!!
Do these orchids do well on Canada west coast with the winter? We have snow sometimes but hot summer
I can totally confirm your theory that pure sphagnum in clay pots dries out faster than sphagnum plus bark chips in clay pots! :) Thanks for the video, I will be switching my cool growers to clay pots as well. Seems our growing conditions are very much alike! All plants you mention and show in this video behave in exactly the same manner in my environment - especially the Nelly Isler and the cuthbertsonii :) I am wondering about the sarcochilus and the paphiopedilums? The sarcos are definitely going into clay, but I am relly not surewhat to do with the paphs...
Hi, the good news is that most Paphs and Sarcs are not cool growers ☺️ here's some info on one of the most popular Sarc used in hybridisation www.orchidspecies.com/sarchartmanii.htm
I think your theory right danny, if not close the top who contact directly with air, spagnum moss will dryout faster
Hi Danny, I like how your videos are always educational. Your theory of pure moss vs moss+bark sounds make sense to me. Have you compared temperatures inside the medium with or without orchids? I wonder whether the orchid's own metabolism can generate some heat. If yes, then one additional reason the clay pot helps with lowering temperature can be it releases the heat generated by orchid itself faster?
This was a *COOL* video
Hi,do u keep water in clay pot dish always, for evoporating cooling??
I have a rapidly root rot recovering encyclia bractescens that was already a little dehydrated, that i left on a place where it received too much sun and heat and shriveled and dried pseudobulbs,Can someone give me any tip for it?
about the sphagnum moss theory I think it is true because I have a sick phal on pure moss and I have to mist it about every 2 days.
you could use clay pots to remove salts from water. Because they are such salt magnets, you could take tap water and fill a large shallow tub with it, set the clay pots in it and they will soak up all the salt in the water leaving soft water behind.. i don't know if that would work in practice, but in theory it makes total sence
Hi, the salt buildup remains as the water evaporates. It's just like salt remaining on a dish after water evaporated, but 10 times faster, due to the porosity of clay which accelerates evaporation. So placing the clay pot in water will not attract the dissolved salts, wish it were that simple though ☺️
@jmoran1954 Danny knows this - she already uses RO water :)
No more Masdevallias? Darn... Danny do you have a Dendrochilum?
Thanks for the vdo now I will try in mud
Pot
This sounds so wrong, but I like to see your failures too. Your orchids are stunning for the most part and I always learn so much from your success, But I also learn from your flops as well as mine. Thank you!
Everyone has fails, not everyone feels comfortable talking about them, that's all. But they happen it's part of the hobby ☺️
Do you ever buy online? Would love some suggestions from you. Love your collection, goals 😭
You wrote "take!" and nobody took it, try writing "don't take!" they might be gone then 😂
i realize I'm kinda randomly asking but do anybody know a good place to stream newly released movies online?
@Bode Amir i watch on Flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
@Brantley Grey yup, I have been watching on flixzone for years myself =)
Hoa lan đẹp quá chị ơi
How often should I water my orchids in the pots?
Hi, whenever the medium is dry ☺️
Thank you. Love your videos. I learned so much from your videos! ♥️
