Having been to HaiDiLao multiple times in Singapore, I feel like this video underestimates the staff helpfulness. It's not the entertainment or all the things to keep you busy while waiting, that keeps people coming back. It's the customer service, plain and simple. They train their staff well and it shows. They will bring girls hair ties to tie their hair, they will bring you blanket even without asking, they are always smiling and willing to explain things to foreigners. You get a genuine feeling of being cared for. That's what kept me going back. Well the food is amazing too.

Like the overall helpfulness of all the employees, how fast you get served, how long it takes to get the thing you asked for (or even before you ask, if it's some common requests like hot towels, drink top-up, replacing used dishes etc). They also fulfil all kinds of special requests as long as it's within reason.

We spoke to the reception about the situation, she proactively asked around all the waiting customers whether they were okay with us going in first, we were so grateful that all of them agreed. We were also asked if we could finish within 40min, so we finished the meal just within 40min, thanks to the staffs’ quick setup, cuz we ordered at the line outside, by the time we got to the table, it had been half ready already, just because they all knew our situation. My father in law really liked the taste and its no BS service, and made it to his flight. They have a wait area filled with free snacks, drinks, various games to kill the time, never got the chance to try their manicure though because its always occupied 😅 at one outlet, they even provide DIY bracelet making, coloring fabric for kids, anything that makes your wait time bearable. The staff is attentive, providing me with a blanket since the seat i took near an AC, they give hair ties, alcohol wipes for glasses user, they even still gave me snacks to take home on my way out. There would be staff asking if we need help every now and then, and they always full of smile. Food is great too. And oh, they even open for 24 hours in some outlet.

I've been fairly regularly going to my neighborhood Haidiloa in Beijing for the last 20 years, and the quality and service has never slipped. They're good to their staff, giving them health care and supporting their children's education. The staff therefore always seem genuinely happy to be there, and they remember you too. A handful of waitresses watched my 19-year-old grow up. Little things like the free manicures and the snacks whilst waiting in line make a real difference. Then, there's the little toy for the young ones, the noodle guy and staff gathering around to sing for someone's birthday. At one point, they were running a special to commiserate with anyone who had recently had a breakup. Last weekend, an addition was that anyone eating alone got a large stuffed version of the panda mascot to sit in the chair opposite. The food itself is also excellent! Haidiloa is such a winning formula!!

There are better hot pot places in town and none of the amenities shown here were being offered at this location. It was pretty much an overpriced average hot pot place.

I have been to their restaurants all over Asia (China, Singapore, Vietnam, HK, and Malaysia. They are all well managed and have young enthusiastic staff. The food gets boring after a few trips, so the gimmicks do work. Not sure if their business model will work the same in Western countries because the labour costs are much much higher compared the restaurant bill that can be charged. Hard to value the restaurant business that high because they can flop overnight like many before them.

Cant imagine americans liking this type of restaurant other than asian expats, hot pots can take a whole evening, and its more akin to a social gathering, rather than just a place to eat, the closest equivalent in US would be kbbq, but unlike kbbq in which the concept is very familiar to americans, hot pot is very foriegn.
