    I haven't read through all the comments or someone else may have said this also. May I suggest that you do an advanced class on line use. I know you try to keep it simple so that the beginner fisherman understands but I know there's a bunch of people like myself who have been fishing for a long time and maybe even have bad habits with lines. I would like to see a video the takes specific scenarios and what line and or leader you might use in that case. And the actual weight of line/leader that you would use in each case. I work in a Sportsman's Warehouse in the fishing department a lot and have helped many people especially beginners choose the proper line for the fish that they're going after. I also try to give tips to the advanced fisherman if they start asking questions or if they're willing to listen. So in advance video would not only help myself in my fishing but I would be helping others that come to the shop. Thank you for all the videos that you guys do! I have learned a lot even though I've been fishing for 60 years or more.

    As a majority bank fisherman, I do not bring many rods with me( sometimes only one). I was a flourocarbon truther because I had confidence in it, but I watched a video Matt did about two years ago and I wanted to switch to braid to try different techniques. I did not have confidence at first, mostly because I didnt trust my flourocarbon to braid knots and I kept thinking fish have to see that braided line!
    I decided to buy some Maxima Ultragreen to use as a leader with one of the recommended braided lines and WOW my confidence has gone through the roof these past two years. The durability, reliability, castability and most important VERSATILITY of this setup is bar none in my opinion. I practically throw everything on this setup and you DO get the best of both worlds with a quality braid and a quality mono leader.
    I really appreciate TacticalBassin... I know this was long, but with all the lazy misinformation on the internet nowadays I want to let new viewers know, THESE GUYS KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!

    Thanks for mentioning the ultralight finesse fishing part. 2lb fluro for trout jigs are the best. Can’t use mono, too much stretch and you miss the hooks set. Can’t feel it fast enough. Braid ripping through the water is a turn off for trout. Fluoro for trout, mono for crabbing, crappie fishing (paper mouths), treble baits, and floating bait, braid for all else.

    I would say that there are many reasons a bass may not strike your lure and seeing the line and knowing it is a bad thing is most likely last. I have used straight braid since Stren introduced Kevlar, which was awful btw, then to Spiderwire and others and have never had a problem. Would love to see some underwater footage of Braid vs Mono vs Fluro with the same lure to see how the bass react, if at all.

      @Billy West He was using bright colored mono that he used for salt water? The pound test must have been in the 50 to 100 range. The action of the Senko would have been greatly effected. Again, many reasons why bass won't bite and the kind of line is most likely last. IMO and the opinion of many fish experts.

    After years of fishing I’ve learned:
    Braid on medium to heavy action poles for larger fish and salt like Cat/Carp/Striper.
    Mono with medium action poles for mid to smaller fish like Trout/Bass/Crappie especially if trolling.
    Always read the side of your reels for best line weights. I’ve seen people put 50lb mono test on reels that say they only handle up to 20lbs 170 yards. Then they wonder why they’re always bird nesting or have line issues. It’s important to understand your gear.

    Besides using all three major line types, I have also used a “line” that very few people are even aware of. When I was young, I used what the real old timers used for lake trout fishing on the Finger Lakes of New York State. Copper wire! Plus it is used in a hand fishing method from wooden row boats. A metal spoon is hand jigged while rowing. The copper wire sinks to the depths lake trout are found during the summer. No downrigger needed. Hand fishing with copper wire = common technique used in the mid 20th century.

As far as my lager mono leaders fro glide baits and topwaters, I typically try and keep my connection knot just outside of my line guide on my reel. Depending on the length of the rod determines how long my leader will be. Hopefully this makes sense.

    • @ETuss713
      @ETuss713 2 роки тому

      Maybe you bought bad braid. 10lb braid is equivalent to 10lb mono or fluro with breaking strength. That spool of braid will last you years if taken care of. You will go through lots of spools of mono in the same time.
      Braid is significantly thinner. That allows throwing lighter lures and casts further. If a rod states 6-12lb line, that means 6-12lb mono diameter. The equivalent braid for diameter would be 30lbs or more braid. Its about diameter not test.

    I just got to work so I haven’t watched but can you please touch up on it reply to this comment about co-polymer line please!! I just ordered a heavy combo for my flipping and pitching with jigs and frogging and I’m going to put about 45 lb braid on and u was going to put about 17 flourocarbon on my current 7’ mh for more of my moving bait applications and maybe worming but I also keep hearing about this co polymer. Can someone please inform me on which is best and why? I would greatly appreciate it

      Co polymer is a combination of nylons whereas monofilament is only one. The Maxima Ultragreen that we talk about and recommend is actually a co polymer.

    I know you guys do buyers guides all the time, but I'd love to hear your opinion on which setups and pieces you feel like gain the most from upgrading. Maybe an order youd recommend upgrading if you are someone who has a solid basic lineup from your $100 combos video, which pieces make the most sense to upgrade first and why. Love the content guys 😁

    Hey Tim thanks for the great content 👍🏻I know I'm late but if could you please do a video on the different pound braid and leaders that you use for specific applications? Also if you could mention which techniques you don't use braid for, you mentioned crankng in some instances but I'm assuming for jerkbaits you use FC too?

    I just got an Okuma travel spinning rod and reel combo (size 20 - up to 8# line) for my truck. What would be the best all purpose line to load on it? I’m in the Midwest fishing dirtier waters for bass/crappie and will be fishing both surface and below surface baits. Any help will be appreciated immensely. All my other reels have mono on them but I’m interested in the braid but have never used it before.

      Get a Shimano DC reel! The SLX DC isn't too bad price-wise. Then, LEARN how to set it up (I know, who reads a reel manual, right!). Like you, for MANY years, I only used spinning. Tried a cheaper spinning reel and hated it. Finally learned how to set it up - still mostly hated it. Got a DC reel and spent more time watching how to vids . . . MUCH better. Also, final recommendation, when you first get a caster, start learning with heavier line (50, 65, 80 pound braid) - much easier for the initial learning curve!

    That Maxcuatro is pretty thin stuff. The 30lb works out to 0.23mm, that’s like 8lb sniper so what’s the thinking of using 15lb braid or less for the finesse applications ? Surely having a thicker leader than braided mainline is going to cause issues.

I do use the power pro super slick on all my reels mainly because I’m a shimano guy and it’s made by shimano and also in the town I’m in it’s either that or spider wire. I’m not a fan of spider wire because I bought a spool of their flouro and it literally just frayed like a split ends in a woman’s hair so that threw me off that brand. • @Gulb180
      @Gulb180 4 роки тому

      In my experience, which is nowhere near Tim’s, I think it would have a lot to do with how loose you spooled your line. When you first put it on make sure it’s super tight reeling so it lays how it’s supposed to. As for your casting distance length of line maybe just try to have less slack when reeling? Quality of baitcaster and line could also play a factor. Hope I somehow helped if Tim doesn’t respond
