Sounds a lot better than Colorado winters where everything is dry and all the plants are dead and grey

Colorado has it's magic but I do prefer the more temperate winters here. I spent a lot of time skiing when I was younger in Colorado, great memories there!

Aaron did an excellent job of explaining Portland, Or. winter weather. It's really confusing because it's like trying to compare apples and oranges. Here are some statistics to explain my point of view. In Portland , the average annual rainfall is only 36". Compare that to Houston, Tx at 50", or New Orleans at 63" Or New York City at 46". But, it's not really about rain. It's about overcast sky. Because in Houston, they get 204 days of sunshine annually . In New Orleans= 219 days. In NYC = 234 days of sun. But in Portland, it's only 144 days of sunny weather. Arron is also correct to say that in Portland, no two winters are ever the same. One winter can be extra dry, the next extra wet. He is also correct in stating that most of the rainfall falls as DRIZZLE. He's right, you can just wear a light raincoat and you don't get soaked in winter. Sping is where the downpours happen. But that is just showery weather. I've lived in Oregon over 50 years. I came as an adult . The first winter was a hardship on me.. By January I was ready to jump ship on Portland. Then something happened. I realized it was going to rain and when I accepted that fact, I learned to enjoy rain. Now, in the summer when it doesn't rain much, I actually miss the rain.

By Salt Lake City standards, Portland gets neither a winter or summer, it's fall and spring all year. Even though it's overcast a lot, rain is rare in the summer and snow just as rare in the winter.

Hi Larry, I didn't realize it doesn't snow much in Salt Lake! Is it just the mountains that surround it and the suburbs that are up in the hills/mountains of Salt Lake?

We get 3 months of outdoors paradise, with countless options to camp, hike, bike and overland. But the other 9 months suck! Weeks without seeing the sun, incessant rain, fog so thick you can't see the house across the street, wind blasts that knock garbage cans and spread trash everywhere, but the worst is then we get rains around 32 degrees, which freeze your car, streets, and sidewalks, and we can't leave the house for days, get deliveries, and most flights get canceled. Don't be deceived by rain stats, it does not matter how many inches of precipitation we get, I wish someone would count hour many hours in a month it rains and let me tell you it’s 90% of the time.

I love the summers! And you know the fall and spring are beautiful here as well. It's just the winters we need to make peace with 😬

    It's the drizzle rain here
Just like Seattle, Washington. Also we sit above the 45th parallel where most of the US population is south of the 45th. Weather just fine here west of the Cascades.

I'm sure you may have a different take on the winters after what happened in the latter part of February 2023, lol...

😂 I know right! The kids loved all the snow, it was fun for a day. Biggest snow fall in one day in 80 years. Not your usual weather that’s for sure. We are having cooler weather than normal right now. I’m ready for spring! 🌸
