I agree; I enjoy all the transitions into the seasons.

By Salt Lake City standards, it's either Spring or Fall all year in Portland, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Portland winters are usually around 10° warmer, and summers about 10° cooler than Salt Lake.

Hi. Thanks for this. I am planning a visit in September and am wondering about forest fires and smoke in the air. When is that most likely to occur and for how long? Is it an annual occurrence?

That's actually a great question! So fire season typically extends into October when the rain gets more frequent, but it's always so hard to predict what things will be like in Portland each summer. It depends entirely on the location of the fires, their proximity to Portland, and the wind direction during the fire.. The last couple years there really weren't any major fire events that affected the air quality in Portland, but the year before that there were many fires close to Portland to the north and south, so that caused some bad smokey air during that time. So it can't really be predicted in advance what it will be like. I've got my fingers crossed that the air stays clean up here all summer! Hope you enjoy your time in Portland, and thanks for watching! Of course let us know if you're gonna be moving up here, we'd love to help with that. 😊

Fire season can last from July till Halloween. Thats when the annual drought is. Also when forest fires are possible.
Most of the time smoke isn't present, or much of an issue if it's high enough.
Smoke cam drift in from California. British Columbia, or other distant places.
Occasionally the forest fires are closer to Portland, and if Portland is down wind from the fire.

Very true! This summer ended up being pretty mild when it came to smoke in Portland. I remember one day we got an AQI of about 150 but that was very breif as bad as it got, I think that smoke blew in from the Oregon coast, or possibly fires up in BC. hey thanks for watching btw! cheers! @@johanvangelderen6715
