It is so much fun to see your 10 in 1 fig tree. It is also fun to see the Chicago Hardy cutting given a new and prominent life on your tree. Please update us on the fruit this summer/fall. So far all of the fig cuttings you have sent me are now mature and happy figs. The Olympian is my favorite and is very prolific.
Good morning Richard, YES- you’re one of the 1st fig varieties I introduced onto our 10-in-1 Fig Tree. Also, you helped us solidify our annual Free Fig Cuttings Giveaway we do each February… there was a year near the start that we skipped just because of the monumental amount of effort that goes into making it possible! I have a doubt about your words, I had understood that the cherry tree could only be grafted on cherry or sour cherry,

‘Prunes’ - type trees can all be grafted together; these include: cherry, peach, plum, apricot, almond, Pluot, Pluerry, etc, etc. 💯 Keep me posted on your grafting successes!

Quick question: When doing the approach method, why use nylon string instead of something like buddy graft and rubber bands like you would do on a wedge graft?
Hello Jason 👋 I ALWAYS use fishing nylon string so that I can inspect the grafting union every 3-4 weeks when replacing the moist paper towel w/ plastic bandage that retains moisture at the grafting site during the healing process. Using buddy tape or rubber bands would block the view of the healing process- & block the moisture from the moist towel. I hope this explanation makes sense! :-)

When is the best time for grafting
When is the best time to graft trees?
Late-winter to early spring; after the last chance of frost has passed & before bud break is best. However, citrus & avocados are grafted predominately in the spring- summer months. Using the approach grafting technique, you can graft anytime during the growing seasons: spring, summer & early fall! I hope this helps & good luck!!
