I have to handle it to you. You have big depth of knowledge with Mercedes. Not too many people around like you. Kudos! I’m in the market for another 300 sd.
NOW, you can order a new cylinder by VIN, and install a new lock bolt housing without the boobytrap relocker. Looked a bit bloody rough, but The Cable Guy would give you the thumbs up
I've got the same problem with my 2002 SLK (R170). Key is broken in the barrel and seized in. Is there a way to just disconnect the steering lock and then "hotwire" it? Maybe fit a start button. ?? Otherwise it's an expensive job.
Hi there, thanks for your video. On my 1996 W202, I cannot turn the ignition with the key. It is stuck due to the pins in the lock tumbler not being flush. Would you please suggest a fix? Thank you.
This reminds me of two extremely fiddly jobs on my 1979 W116 (450SEL) and without a manual. The fitting of the windscreen, to do this job you need good hands, lots of patience and cups and cups of coffee. Me and my retired master mechanic dad initially took the car to windscreen fitters but all of them would not take on the job, so we had to do it ourselves. The dashboard corners come in the way to get the rubber to seat well. Very, very difficult. Another is fitting the glove box lid. There is a small screw on the inside of the glove box that has to be reached to do or undo the glove box.
that pin extraction on the ignition looks ugly but the process works. i can empathize with you about the windshield. i have done it enough times...and it never gets easy.
@@mercedesclassicswithpierre1753 My thinking is that at the factory they must have followed a sequence of windshield installation first then dashboard. Is that right, would it be easier this way? For years whenever I see a W116, I wonder if it is like that.
My car is a 1999 Mercedes s320. Lost the key and have no keys now. My plan is to have the car towed to a Mercedes dealership. Is that a good plan or should I just sell the car. Or should l like you did start it on my own. I have never taken apart a steering wheel. Can you elaborate more when you got to using the screw driver and then what
Hi, I had the exact same situation in my W124, the steering lock was jammed and the key could not go to ACC, so I had to drill out the pin of the steering lock to get the complete barrel off the car. The only thing I did different was that I drill 3 holes on the plastic wire connector to unscrew the 3 screws that hold the electrical switch onto the barrel instead of drilling the screws itself. So I saved the electrical switch but now I have 4 holes on the connector. After that I ordered from mercedes a new barrel to my key, tool 1 week and 100€. Thanks. AC
I would prefer to replace the switch than the housing...the switch is inexpensive and easy to get. Still, i am glad you got the repair done yourself without damaging the car. good work!
I'm having some issues with my 2005 sl500, the temp guage isnt working, i changed my thermostat, temp coolant sensor, still nothing, i saw it work a couple times and now its just stuck at 40, any advice will be greatly appreciated

jam9297 can you explain to Me how you did this. I have a 1980 280ce w123 and my key broke off in there. I used to be able to turn it with the broken key
Yeah I had an issue on my 123 where the key was starting to get finicky,so I got a new tumbler and tried replacing it. Well I almost got screwed on that ,and luckily I got the new tumbler back out. At that point I said I'm fine using a screwdriver until I get a whole new lock assembly. It's a 4 speed so thats a good theft deterrent.

This particular issue with the w126 has made me walk away from a few that had good repair histories. I've just put it down as preventative maintenance like checking timing chains and guides for the cam gears, and not a matter of if, but when they decide to unravel. Sure not a user friendly repair, Pierre.
The Pierre Hedary Mercedes-Benz Classic Specialist Thanks man, we figured it out. Previous owner snapped key off in ignition switch. So, we just decided to cut the wheel lock with a dremel from underneath, as to not take dash apart. Then we realized that the lines were the vacuum lines that go to the fuel shut off. So until we replace the entire ignition mechanism we have to detach one hose, and suck on it, to turn off motor. It works, but it sucks... Lol
I wonder if a very powerful magnet and a few Light air hammer vibrations on the housing could have gotten the broken piece of key out? I even have very small extremely powerful magnets that would fit in the key hole and perhaps could just extract the broken key that way?
Its pretty bad that a car manufacturer has a problem with the ignition for twenty years and failed to fix the problem. Doesn't say much for quality. I had to repair the ignition in my 05.
I have a 2006 mercedes c350 4matic and the key just wont turn We tryed everything, even sent it to AAA but it still wont start....Any way to hotwire it without making connection to computer???
The EIS reads the key, then releases the lock, thus allowing rotation. The infrared key is either damaged, or the EIS motor is dead. You will need a VERY talented locksmith, as the EIS module is sometimes serviceable. try www.findalocksmith. Be sure they have the resources for your vehicle
i just had to do this to a 560 sec I bought. No key. I have the title, a bill of sale, and my identification. Mercedes won't sell a key until I put it into my name. I just needed to hear it run and drive before I go to the expense of transfer and taxes. What a pain, but at least I know the car runs and drives.
You can pull the lock out of the driver's door and a car lock Smith will make a key for $30 dollars , I did this to a 300TD I bought from the auto auction 2 years ago with out a key
@@mercedesclassicswithpierre1753 your right..my key was stuck i couldnt switch the ignition to position 1 or 2 and i had to break the whole ignition cylinder in order to get it out and fit in the new one

Those red wires are from a seat belt light or O2 sensor warning light someone added to cluster
I just used a sawzall to chop off the wheel lock and off came the ignition with it. Now I have keyless ignition

I couldnt tell if this one was the one that has 2 vacuum lines going through the ignition. What do you do with those
the line to the engine shut off goes on the bottom
