my climate control blower motor stopped working and the ignition switch was the problem
Bad ignition switch systems include:
1.sticky movement of the ignition key
2.no power to some accessories( i.e blower motor,engine starter ect)
your ignition switch supplies power to just about everything in order to operate the car
so its very important that its working properly..

Same symptoms with my w201 blower stopped, radio turns on when door opens, car looses power while driving. Thanks for taking the time to do this for your fellow MB owners, and at no cost! Replaced the ignition switch with you to guide me, blower works fine radio still comes on when the door opens, disconnected the door switch for now.

My heater fan quit unexpectedly. There was no power to that 30a fuse with the car on. So I ran a 10 gauge wire from the battery to the front side of that 30a fuse under one screw. Got it working quickly!
Well the accessory Drive/ power supply come from the ignition switch, next power for the blower motor comes from a wire harness attached to a heat sink ( I have done a video on this job check it out on my channel).. once that unit fails, burns , gets wet etc, it blows the fuse so u replace it. Because It can case a heat flash and start a fire ! If u bypass it and set up direct link to un regulated voltage!
No I ran a wire to the ignition side of fuse. So power still goes through the 30A fuse to the blower fan. It's working well and the wire doesn't get hot. I probably won't bother changing the ignition switch until some other part of it breaks.

I just bought a new switch for my 99 Slk 230. Does it just plug in and everything works or does it have to be programmed somehow?

GREAT VIDEO BUT HOW DO YOU GET THE PLUG OFF OF THE BACK WITHOUT BREAKING IT OPEN
From what I can remember.. I just gently tug And pulled it out from the switch..only took a few minutes to do ,but really tight work space in the dash
Try not to pull directly on the back where the wires are because that can come loose and wires can come out of order
Hopefully this ignition switch is my issue. I have no crank no start. Ran and drove before it died while driving which leads me to believe the ignition switch is the issue
Great vid! Tell me, i checked a no crank, no start Merc 1998 C200, and found that starter is receiving 12 vots and starter relay also working when tested it. I am suspicious the car's ignition might be failing to send current to the Relay/Starter cause it feels way too soft when turning a key from no 1 up to start position.
Well you may need to change the ignition switch the plastic inside becomes very brittle and the contact strips inside don’t make a connection to complete the circuit it lands on when turning the key to one of the positions.
Another thing to do is check for any error codes !
Not sure if your Mercedes has an obd2 or blink codes set up to read codes. But do this and see what the car is saying is wrong.. is so important!!!
@@piscatawaymechanic Thanks a lot buddy! I am definitely sure after having watched your video, i will find a way to change the ignition switch if such is needed! Very spot on, i will try diagnose of scan any error codes. The switch is my suspect! Fuel pump relay back in the trunk clicks when turning the car to "on/to start," but nothing OR NO CLICK on the 2 Relays under hood.
Nice,,but how do you get that little pin to open when you loose all your keys??
green1 .. well from what i know you must have your 🔑 key to do this job. i think otherwise the w124 could be stolen by anyone very easily..
benz mechanic,,,,,I got it out now,,,I just used an angle grinder to grind that little nuisance pin down...
Yeah had my car for 3 years trouble free.
Just happened today.
Checked all my fuses
I went to shut off and pull the key. The radio and accessories stays on. And windows.
Everything else works normally.
So you think I should get that done?
Yeah to me it sounds like u will need a new ignition switch.. I would go ahead and replace it now. And if that doesn’t fix the issue you know there’s something else wrong

So far the good news is I think it's only interior lighting and power windows.
I tested everything else and they do not operate with the key removed.
Do you know if just powering off my head unit might be suffice until the replacement ignition comes in the mail?
because if nobody is touching the windows lights or the radio I would think that the battery would stay normally
Hey man, I need to remove this whole assembly, however I can’t get my key into position one as my steering lock is stuck.

Only thing I can think of is to
Pull hard on your steering wheel to the right or left while moving the key into position one .. to unlock it

Hey @@piscatawaymechanic I have tried everything over and over and still so stuck, I’ve read sometime the steering lock pins can fail with grim and grit... going to be a tough one but I’m determined to fix it!

I don’t understand the question.. are you referring to your cars spark plugs?
Can this make problem with starting...? i lose spark from ignition coil.. i changed EZL, crankshaft sensor, ignition coil and ECU is chacked... If somebody want to help me i will be thankfull... :)
#1 check the diagnostic blink codes . This will tell you about any issues going on.. it’s the small black box in the upper right hand corner of the battery or ECU area.
#2 ( there’s a “possibility “ that your fuel pressure regulator is failing I have a video on my channel)
Just start with the blink codes first! And go from there. It’s expensive just throwing parts on these cars and not fixing the actual problem. Hopefully this helps 🫡

When you lose you’re blower motor , don’t you also lose everything else that’s on the accessory contract ? I would think if you lose the accessory you’ll lose power seat , interior light , power window ?
blower motor is Kinda separate issue most times , but if you try to turn the key on with a bad ignition switch you will lose some accessory functions 100% ..
@@piscatawaymechanic yeah my blower is out and my power window and everything gone . I’m not sure if this is the issue but even my fuel pump isn’t activating
Have change ignition switch but now get no power to engine, windows, or radio
only thing i can think of is the switch is no good or loose connection or not lined up correctly wires to the switch . because putting the key to position 2 all power should come on immediately.
make sure u have purchased a mercedes benz made switch…no aftermarket stuff because they will not work properly.

Well. You have to problem solve. Is everything getting power ( battery work ok?)
Next check all the fuses ( make sure non or tripped or damaged) if u havd power to the car, next u want to check the blink codes it’s the black box somewhere on the right or left fire wall or near the battery. Check the blink codes which tells u of any issue. Then u may need to test the wires to make sure they are getting power to the starter etc.
I’m just trying to offer blind advice but hopefully it gives u some ideas of possible solutions
Thank you man you are awesome i'm very thankful you replied to me the Battery does work and the starter does get power, I will look up what the blink codes are! but the small wire on the solenoid has constant power but it still doesn't push out the starter to turn on the car @@piscatawaymechanic
how long did this take you and how much would you charge your neighbor to do this if you haven't done it before? hahaha. he's a new neighbor and wants to use me for cheap labor but i'm not about hooking people up looking to use me, you know?
