Good stuff Robbie. I pre make my rigs and wind them on a piece of cardboard, then just attach with a snap swivel when needed. The old eyes have seen better days ha ha.
Thanks mate, and that's an excellent idea. I'm hearing you about eyes. My aging eyes are causing me troubles when I tie knots. Even watching my line looking for a nibbe I can barely see the line some days..
Awesome job Robbie. My twin boys and I love watching your adventures. So much infact it inspired us to start our own channel. That was a massive cray, Can’t wait until crayfish season starts up again they taste sooo good. Keep up the good work and maybe one day I’ll run into you on one of your adventures.
Thanks UF. The downside side doesn't have as much access. I was literally fishing at my car in this spot. Also, the other side of the bridge is upstream. I like my lines pointing downstream.
She was a big girl and cool to see some Redfin in the channel. Was told they were in there up in Deni, but never had the luck to catch one. Nice overall session Robbie!!!
Thanks mate. As I was leaving a police officer pulled up and asked if I was OK. Such a beautiful young lady, she just had a really pleasant persona. I told her I had finished fishing and was just packing up. She was so nice.
Hello rob Another great episode, I find them long lean carp are normally on steroids... the cray is such an amazing creature, mate the hawk after the birds was very cool , I have a sparrow hawk that uses my garden gate as a plucking post , I often find a pile of feathers under it .... Rob thank you and hope your all in good form..😎🏴
Hi Mike, WOW that would be so awesome to see. We have sparrow hawks here. In fact, I suspect this may have been a sparrowhawk. They are such lightning fast birds. I hope you're having a great day mate.
I love fishing spots without phone service :) Watching you get that tangle out without cussing made me cuss :P Never happens when the fish aren't biting! That was an outstanding Murray Crayfish :O Best tussle with a fish I have seen in ages, it's a crying shame it was a Carp but in Aussie freshwater you take what is presented. Totally enjoyed this segment. Thank you.
Thanks so much for your kind words Rob. I really like fishing in areas without phone service too, until I have to head home and my phone goes crazy as soon as I hit service. LOL
That carp was a real racehorse. Very sleek. Your Pop's poem reminded me of one we used to say. It started Mary and a magpie sat upon the grass. (I can't remember what came next...)
Hi Robbie i believe a channel like you were fishing is used for drainage and irrigation and a canal is used for boat traffic hence why there's a low bridge there. That Crayfish was one of the biggest i've seen you catch, as for the carp here in the UK i find that Sweetcorn and Trout pellets ( different flavours ) are great for them.
Thanks so much mate. That makes PERFECT sense. I'm not even going to google it, I'm running with that. I watch a channel called blackcountrypiker over in England and he fishes in canals and sometimes boats go past. Sweetcorn is excellent bait for carp. I tend to use it a lot more during winter for some reason.
G'day mate, I was using Jan Juc worms. They are African night crawlers. I should have a link to them in the video description, but if I have forgotten,.google "Jan Jucs Worms".
A thought a B double had a small B trailer at the front and a larger A trailer at the back, and a truck with two large trailers was an A double. B doubles have turntables but A doubles have a draw bar between them, and are classed as a road train. That's what I thought but I could be wrong. And a B triple has 2 small B trailers and an A trailer. Either way, it had a road train sign at the front and back. LOL
No wonder the crays get big when you chuck a bloody great big dead carp in, I was after a bigger Perch (your redfins) and I hooked a 20 lb carp, then 2 more a bit smaller, unfortunately, we have to put them back alive in the UK. Crays don't grow very big here and you need a license to catch them, even signals, really enjoying your videos Robbie, take care, Norfolk, UK Ray
Haha thank you so much Ray. That crayfish will be 3 foot long soon. Haha We need a licence to catch carp too. I guess that's to stop people fishing for the good fish under the guise of "I'm just fishing for carp".
Thanks Robert. I definitely reckon that helps. This waterway is closed to crayfishing any way, but having a maximum size to protect the big spawners is fantastic. It works very well for our Murray cod too.
Hi mate, I usually start with whatever the rods are rigged up with from the lady trip, but if I'm getting bites that aren't hooking up I will usually switch to a running sinker.
Nice! Did you have to get over a gate or fence to get fish where you were? I see so many channel spots blocked of by gates where I live. I can't get over them.
Thanks mate. No I could just drive to the edge. Ate you on Victoria or NSW? This is NSW and it seems to be much easier over there. Victoria is so over regulated like that.
@@robbiefishing Shepparton...northern Vic. I used to hop over the gates but physically can't amymore. GMW don't seem to mind on most occasions as long as you don't leave rubbish behind. I've fished the exact same spot many many years ago gees when I was living in Benalla haha. Never had caught a Cray though caught some bloody big fat carp and someone's old bamboo fishing rod with a reel on it. That's one big as Cray wow
Haha that's right. Someone explained to me that a canal is for moving boats around and a channel is for providing water. Canal - Water road. Channel - fake river.
Hi mate, they tend to bite at different times of the year, and have different requirements. Yabbies love warm, dirty water with poor oxygen. Crayfish prefer clear, cold water with a higher level of oxygen. They will die without oxygen in the water. In a place like this there will be bother, but when the waters cold the yabbies don't bite and when the waters warm the crayfish don't bite. It is possible to catch them both in the one net, but not common.

Looks like my kind of spot! That crayfish was a ripper!!! Good size on the reddies too. Well done
Thanks mate. You would love this spot, it's an absolute ripper. NSW channels are much more accessible than Victorian ones.
Rob released the old boy ☺️. They have been trauling our rivers since the dawn of time & deserve the utmost of respect. Live & let live!
It was actually an old girl. Haha 😂 Out of season, over size and in a protected waterway, there's absolutely no way I would have kept it.
They were absolutely huge cray fish, Robbie 👍🏼
Thanks Wayne you're not wrong mate.
Wow! Epic crayfish mate well done. Another nice spot, pity the yellow belly didn't come to play.
Thanks mate. Yeah but oh well, I'm sure I will catch a few yellowbelly soon enough.
Have been away for a week Robbie as you know. Im so proud and glad that zep was sharing our trout adventures with you . 5 pound trout wear you out l😂

Plenty of crays on scrubbies in the channel near waranga basin last weekend not as big as that one though, what a ripper.
