I can totally relate to your experience with yarn shopping and overwhelm at the yarn store. It is like there is too much for my head to process with all the options. Love your tip for matching sleeves by moving over the stitch markers. Your Sailor Swift Top looks fabulous. Thanks so much for sharing all the details for yarn usage. That is super helpful. Looking forward to your next video on your plans. ❤

I always knit 3 stitches with both yarns when joining a new ball. I'll also just join anywhere on the sweater except directly in the front. Unless you're looking for the join, it's usually invisible once the yarns are knit together.
(I agree with you about putting a finished edge on your oversized, cabled sweater. You'll probably feel more comfortable wearing it)
Thank you for your content ... I look forward to it each Saturday 😀

I am 💯 with you on what you see in your brain as to what you want. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve envisioned an outfit or home decor item (I’m also a sewist) in a certain color or style and of course can’t find a pattern or color because I’ve made it up in my head!! Same for knitting.
I’ve had to piece together different parts to come up with what I want. 😜

Totally agree with everything you're saying on gauge swatching! Sometimes I get into a mini slump right at the end of a big project where motivation just evaporates. And that's when I'll gauge swatch for my next project and use the excitement of casting that one on to fuel myself to finish my current project!
Also low key you can get such a good idea of the vibe and composition of yarn combos and colors and such with a swatch. I can't tell you how many times I've pivoted from what I originally thought I wanted because my swatch wasn't thrilling me. It's a fantastic lil preview into your future finished object. Plus once you accumulate enough swatches, you can sew them all together and create a super cute swatch project bag that mirrors your knitting portfolio!

Hi Nora, another way of joining two balls of the same colour yarn is to alternate between the new and the old balls for 10-12 stitches or so. So you do one with the old, one with the new and so on for a few stitches. No ends to weave in at all. Very jelly of the Teddy Blake bag deal you got - I bought one of their bags a few years ago at full price and had it shipped all the way to Australia, they are amazing quality bags and look a lot like the birkin. Love your sailor swift.

Your tank is beautiful on you. Your color choices are so good and I must say Osi matches a lot of them. In making stripe hype now and think it's the most intuitive pattern I've ever made. I have the easiest hack for keeping your bra straps in: take your yarn(you can also use ribbon) and attach it to one side of the top shoulder seam and then attach a snap to the other side of the yarn and then attach the bottom of the snap to the garment and you can just snap your bra strap into place an never think about it while you’re wearing it!

Yay gauge swatching! I love taking measurements before blocking and after blocking my swatch so that while I'm trying on my half-finished garment, I will know that it's going to grow 8% in width and shrink 5% in length, for example. Or if I'm off-gauge, I can do the math to determine that my garment will be 2cm smaller in the bust than the pattern calls for and I can make a call on if I'm okay with that or if I want to add stitches somewhere. All of this gives me so much peace of mind while knitting and saves a ton of time and disappointment.

You're not crazy- I worked at a nursery with a HUGE variety of plants. Customers would sometimes ask for a plant with 5 or 6 specific characteristics that don't coincide in nature. I would explain no such plant existed and they were always surprised and sometimes disappointed. Occasionally they would argue that this fantasy they developed MUST exist.... Make much more sense with yarn than plants, however.

I think you can wash the Noro yarn without a problem. Maybe try with the little swatch? I knit a couple of pieces with yarn with a substantial amount of Japanese paper in it, I wash it in the washing machine using the handwash cycle and it's fine.

Hi Nora, I think Stephen West mentioned in one of his tutorials that he knits a few centimetres with both yarns when joining a new ball. This way he doesn't need to weave in the ends. However I find this doesn't work with plant fibres. I think you can clearly see the thicker stitches. Therefore I knit the first and the last stitches with both strands and alternate between the old and the new strand every second stich. To me its pretty invisible and I don't need to weave in ends afterwards 😊

    • @akaNoraKnits
      @akaNoraKnits  3 місяці тому

So interesting! I never would have even thought to just use that as the joining method-I’ve always still left ends to weave in!! I appreciate the warning and will give it a try properly in a wool soon!! Thank you!

Bra strap coverage a definite problem with tank tops and needs more consideration by designers. Sailor Swift could be knitted in Holst Garn Coast 55%wool 45% cotton. You could go with the larger size and through the bust shaping drop down to the next size down. That's kinda what I'm doing. I'm going for a larger size until I hit about 3 inches under my bust then switching down needle sizes and dropping sizes that way it ends up more of an A-line shape for me. I like the look of the 5mm needles loose-ness (it's not my first tolsta lol) but don't really like it where my bra ends up being so that's my rationale! Good luck! and yeah I love the mix and match abilities of her patterns!

That Noro is beautiful. How do you care for it? Dry clean only?

Yes it says dry clean only!! I’ll put my swatch through the ringer to find out more though 😂

Do you have the 16" Mindful Knitter cord, and if so what needle tips do you use with it? I tried out a 32" based on your experience and I liked it! but I got a few more sizes and my 4" Mindful Knitter metal tips are too long for 16", it's almost like I need bent ones? I can't wait for your next video, I love seeing what you pick out to make.

Hmmm…I do believe I have the 16” but it’s possible that I’ve only used it with my shorter needles!!

You did pretty good on the Asaginu pronunciation, you just need to use a hard "g" instead of the soft j-like "g" :)
