- Thank you for watching despite all of the wind noise! I didn't mention it in the video, but being in that amount of windy without respite was more miserable than I expected... but still, not the worse experience while shelling~ I found a heap of amazing, fresh, and joined bivalves today; some I had no collected like that before. Just amazing! Thanks again for watching!

G’day Pam 👋🏻💖 Hahaha ahhh, I think the bucket of chaos was the highlight from this trip 😂 it’s not lost on me that if I had a normal bucket (on that’s wider at the top like a household bucket is) when it would have looped back to me and everything would have been fine… but noooo, I have maybe the only perfectly cylindrical bucket I’ve ever seen 🤣?? As for the shells, my goodness, it was worth braving the wind to find so many joined bivalves: those Circular Tapestry Clams are amazing! I found plenty of urchins, but I think the jingles were better than them as well 😍 I only knew about them being a bivalve because a friend recently mentioned it (to be honest, I didn’t think much about it before…I probably assumed they were a bivalve?), but also, I was watching a video by Florida Beach Walks and saw her find some in Florida after one of their storms. Maybe it’s possible to find some in Texas, too? I hope so! As always Pam, thank you so very much for watching 🥰

What pretty urchins you found. I'm loving the Oyster shells you found. Love the Carditas as well. Huge brown paper bubble, they seem so fragile. I have to mention that sweet little dainty pin shell. My favorite is the scallop that got away. 😂 Thanks again Maddie for working so hard to bring us another awesome beach walk and treasure hunting video. G’day Roberta 👋🏻💖 This beach is the best for urchins!! Or I should say; no other beach has such a steady and plentiful supply of them within many hours of driving distance!! This beach also seems to have a bountiful amount of those pretty cardita shells too🤔 Ahhh the oyster shells, do you mean those big Hammer Oysters! They are such a bizarre and cool kind of shell 🤩 I wonder why they evolved to be like that? Aw Roberta, I’m sorry the favourite this time was the one that got away 😅 I really did look around to try to find it again, but that bucket just covered so much distance before I caught up with it 😮 that scallop could have been anywhere, and I never saw it again 😂 crazy, there are just so many shells on that beach! The bivalves made just as pretty of an arrangement as the gastropods, lots of pretty and fun shells.

I think that the bivalves are underestimated... some of them have so lovely patterns, colours, or shapes. I find so pretty the pens shells and the oysters ❤. The jingles!!!! So interesting to see them joined. As always, it was super fun adventure.

Oh well, I'm sure I'll find more some day 😉 And yes, the bivalves are totally underrated...but when they need to complete with cowries, murexes, and conches, it's not surprising!! Some people really love bivalves the most though, so these shells do have a dedicated fan base as well 😄 when I was at the last shell show, a man told me that his favourite kind of shells are specifically Arc shells! Hi Maddie 🙂. Those windy days are something else! Basically free exfoliation treatment for your skin, haha. The bicoloured razor clam, tapestry venus shells and the sea urchins are so pretty. When I heard yiu say he has his teeth in I pictured turning over an urchin and seeing it has dentures. The hammer oysters have lovely colours on their underside, and look like a person sans head. My favourite shells today are the hinged jingles. They would be lovely strung along a string with fairy lights nestled in side.
G'day Oceanluvn Gal 👋🏻🌊💖 Hahaha, it was a bit like exfoliation 😂 but mostly, I think I just had a layer of sea spray on my face and glasses 🤓 always a unique feeling! The bivlaves were on full display this time, the Circular Tapestry Clams really stole the show in my eyes 👀 but if those Hammer Oysters looked as nice on the outside as on the inside, then I might have gravitated towards them more instead 😅 Ohhh, I didn't think it that with the hinges jingled 😲 they are very delicate, but a careful crafter could turn them into something amazing 🤩 I will need to be on the look out for more of them next time. Omg i loved the biocoloured razor clam! The sea urchins were not spined at all! I think its because they are bivalves. And the MULTISPINED COCKLE! THE ORANGE ON THE TOP! GORGEOUS MULTISPINED BIVALVE! And thank you for reading this maddie!
G'day Marivic 👋🏻🏖️ Ohhh that Bicoloured Razor Clam is a cool one, right 🤩 Hehe, those sea urchins lost their spines after washing ashore 😉 I didn't pick up ones with spines because they can be a little smelly...they're still urchins though, not bivalves 😂 Bivalves are the one ones that have two shells that join together, like clams and cockles. Speaking of cockles, that Multi-spined Cockle was amazing 🤩 I think it's name is actually a Hairy Cockle; I got the name a little wrong this time (but I'll know for next time)!! The brown lined paper bubble was beautiful! Those hammer oysters are very neat 😍 The wind and your flying bucket….hahahaaa oh my goodness it was whipping across that sand! Awesome voiceover parts-couldn’t even tell the difference; great editing! I’ve seen the sand windblown like that a couple of times-looks really neat how all the shells pop up and out when that happens. Hope you had a great weekend and happy shelling!!!!

Hi Maddie, Jan here again, from land-locked Austria. I was intrigued by many of the joined bi-valves you found today. The tapestry venus clams are especially lovely, but I like all your finds. You are doing a great job of generating excitement for my upcoming visit Downunder. My hubby and I depart this coming Thursday. We will be in Singapore, Darwin (where I hope to slip in some shelling) & Kakadu National Park, Allice Springs & Uluru, Brisbane and some of the East Coast, finishing up in Melbourne to visit our son, with Singapore again on the way home. Because of your shelling videos, we will spend a few nights in Mooloolaba and a couple in Hervey Bay, where I hope to find some exotic shells (at least fo me) for my collection. Thank you so much for your motivating, fun, exciting videos! I'm looking forward to visiting some of your "home beaches"! Any tips you might have would be greatly appreciated.
G'day Jan! I think I saw your comment about your upcoming trip a while ago...but I lost the message (it got buried under a pile of things, sorry!) so I'm glad you brought it up again! My goodness, so Thursday is the big day; only a few days now and you must be so excited!!!
I've never been to Darwin; all I know is that it's hot up there! I've heard the landscape is beautiful as well. I believe it is OK to take shells from the beaches in the Northern Territory, but not from national parks like Kakadu. Be careful to only collect empty shells from beaches that aren't national parks or "green zones" where collection is a not allowed. I was reading this article the other day that you might find useful: www.shopfinglass.com/en-au/blogs/news/top-shelling-beaches-in-northern-territory-best-spots-for-beachcombers ALSO AND THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! Be VERY MINDFUL of crocodile signs: stay at least 5 meters away from the water's edge at beaches and rives. We have salt water crocodiles up there, and they are nasty and dangerous. Some beaches are safe, but some are not.
Again, I've never been to Alice Spring or Uluru either; but I expect them to have stunning scenery as well. I really wish people were still allowed to walk up Uluru, but the view of the rock from the bottom is just as nice. In recent times, Alice Springs has gotten some bad coverage in the media due to safety and crime. Just treat it like any other new and unfamiliar city. It should be pretty safe during the day, but remember to keep your valuables close, and don't wander around too much as it gets darker. Also, I've been told that driving in the dark is also risky due to potentially hitting animals (like kangaroos or camels) while in the outback areas, so be vigilant if you're thinking about driving after dark... or stick to day time driving only.
Brisbane is a great city (but my advice about wandering around after dark is still the same). I'm not sure if you are exploring by car or public transport, but this region of Queensland is currently doing 50cent travel fares if you have a transport card. No shelling around Brisbane, and also; stay away of a town in the south of Brisbane called Logan, and a town in the north called Caboolture. I wouldn't try exploring those places, they are not tourist towns with anything to see, and the safety in those areas isn't as good as Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast.
For shelling, there is definitely a lot to find outside of Brisbane. Of course, my videos are filmed at Point Cartwright Beach (which I think is best for the Sunshine Coast, but Mooloolaba Beach especially at Alexandra Headland Bluff is good too) or Dundowran Beach at Hervey Bay. Hervey Bay has several beaches in that area, with plenty of shells to find. If you want more in-depth advice about these areas, maybe message me closer to the time (either here, or Facebook, or Instagram, or all of them!) and I might be able to share some more local knowledge. If you want to meet up at the beach one day, or if you see me out there, please say hello~
Once again for places that I've never been to; I haven't seen Melbourne either, but I've heard that it's a more beautiful place than Brisbane. There are lots of shelling opportunities there too, so don't forget to check out Phillip Island if you have time... it's famous for a penguin parade, but I think there are some place to find shells there too! Explore and you might find some more exciting beaches around Melbourne if you have time, too.

My hubby and I have been to Australia before (this will be our 5th trip) and we are visiting several places for a second time (Darwin & Kakadu, Alice Springs & Uluru, Melbourne). Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast are new for us. Your tip about 50 cent fares is appreciated. We will have rental cars in each location, except for Melbourne, but public transportation could be useful while we are in the city of Brisbane. I did know that collecting shells within National Parks is prohibited, I would never want to collect a live specimen, and to be very mindful of crocodile warnings. I will definitely check out the link you sent regarding shelling in the Northern Territory. Thank you for the information about good spots on the Sunshine Coast. My husband is not an avid sheller, preferring to walk the beaches we visit, while I scrounge around searching through shell piles. I guess I could describe our trips as general sightseeing, with some shelling for me on the side. However, much of our time on the Sunshine Coast is reserved for shelling; my hubby will need to entertain himself for a while when we are there! I was reluctant to suggest that we might be able to meet up (I didn't want to be too "stalker-ish"), but I would love to if we can coordinate our schedules. I will try to Facebook Messenger you, to let you know exact dates for our time in Mooloolaba and Hervey Bay. Thanks so much for being generous with your time and information; it is much appreciated! I think the name is spot-on 😂 Ahhh, there was a lot of Hammer Oysters this time, I remember never finding any around here, but suddenly there's heaps! I hope so, and thank you so much once again 🙏🏻💖 I do have a lot of behind the scenes things to say about this one... though it's most "poor me, that wind was miserable, yadda yadda" 😂 seriously, the wind from this day actually hits my top 3 worst shelling experiences? Really though, I do this to myself 🤣 and I was quite happy with the shells! This time, I believe, was the first time I'd shown a joined Hammer Oyster, but I didn't say that it was my first one 🤫 that's because I show 98% of my shelling adventures on UA-cam, but in one of those other 2% adventures, I found several of these oysters at another beach 🏖️ in the end, I chose not to share that adventure (it was quite lackluster) and I felt like the location was a bit tricky to share; not because of anything bad, but because the signage at that place could easily be misunderstood regarding shelling vs fishing as separate activities. No reason to return there anyway, not with the Sunshine and Frasier Coasts in my sights!! My goodness Annie, thank you again for everything you've done for me 🙏🏻 I hope you're having a wonderful start to the week. I know you have some crazy weather right now, but I hope it passes quickly so you can have some of your own shelling adventures as well. Thank you so, so much for watching 🥰

They're just gorgeous, nice hammer oysters too, Antigona laqueata, Pinctada maculata, Lutraria rhynchaena, Tapes conspersus, Jolya elongata, n Chama pulchella, Vepricardium multispinosum, Pinna bicolor and Atrina pectina, this last one is very similar to our Mediterranean Atrina pectinata, 🤔i must look if its about same shell or just synonymous ??? Beautiful interesting shelling 🤩 as always Maddie 😍 just a beautiful moment with you in Queensland ❤❤❤ Francesco
G'day Francesco 👋🏻💖 Hahaa, so true; this is the place to come to if I need bivalves!! The Tapestry Clams are so lovely, and a first for me to see fresh and joined like this... they look so much better than the old and worn away ones that I usually see along the beaches up there! Oh my goodness Francesco, you are so good with those scientific names; I usually need a spread sheet to keep the all organised! As for the pen shells, I think a lot of them within the Pinna and Atrina genuses look very similar to each other, so if your Mediterranean pen shells are also an Atrina shell, then they will have a close appearance. I think they are probably different species though. Thank you so much for coming along for another shelling adventure 🥰

I must admit, it's a nice way to change things up every one in a while 😂?? Still, I meanly went there to find some sea urchins, so I'm glad that the number one favourites are the green urchins 🤩 Oh wow, and the Leafy Oyster is actually your favourite among all the bivalves 😲 hmm, it makes me wonder what my favourite ever bivalve is? How often do you go shelling?
G'day Di 👋🏻🏖️ I go out shelling between 1-4 times per week depending on the weather, the tides, and those video editing days 😉 it works out so I'm not usually far ahead of my videos that I release; they run almost evenly with the amount of times I'm able to go shelling 🐚 last year, I was doing three videos per week, and it worked at first, but eventually I put more time into the videos and the shelling, so taking it down to two was the best move I could have made 🤔 Thank you for watching another big adventure 🥰
