- Опубліковано 1 лют 2024
- Today I share my predictions, hopes, fears, and desires for watches and the industry in 2024 and beyond. In this video I discuss recent watch trends and where they will go next, along with what I think will be the next big thing in terms of style, influences, and engineering in movements-plus a look at my personal final collection goals as I approach the end of my long watch collecting journey. Included in this video are predictions for a variety of brands such as Universal Geneve, Breitling, Frederique Constant, Rolex, Tudor, Omega, Grand Seiko, Longines, Swatch, Breguet, Panerai, Tag Heuer, Casio, Christopher Ward, Tissot, and more. What will be the next big thing in the watch world? And which recent fads-like Tiffany colored dials and Genta inspired 1970s sports watches-will fade into a distant memory? What are your predictions for the watch industry in 2024? Please share in the comments.

Rip Carl Weathers. 🙏
RIP Indeed! I just found out a few minutes ago. What a legend.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Definitely sad times, Carl Weathers was an action icon and captured the screen when he made any appearance with his appearance, impeccable physical presence and charisma. RIP Carl 😢.
A beast of a man with such charisma. Didn’t know until today that he played in our CFL!
Watching Predator tonight as tribute
@@vincentbaverso2806 From Rocky, "Be a thinka, not a stinka."
Bro, I just want to mainline that introduction. All the 90s nostalgia! Well done!
Damn, the Predator reference got me. We lost Carl Weathers today 😭
Mate, the opening sequence of 90s nostalgia, pop culture and icons - and the snippet from the Titanic - both hilarious and somewhat terrifying 😮Love your work 😊
Your intros are getting extremely impressive. I don't understand how you can make a video like this in a week.
I have to say, I watched this on my tv but had to log in on my phone so I could comment on how amazing that intro 90’s timeframe was put together!! That would’ve taken me months to even half way think of some of those references, I was born in ‘83 so I remember the 90’s extremely well! Crazy man, love the rest of your content as well as always
Always a pleasure to watch (no pun intended) one of your videos, TGV! I think your predictions are spot on.
Beautifully edited & narrated, TGV. All the best for 2024 & your goals.
Thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
Very much appreciated, I wish the same to you!
Best regards,
TGV
P.s. I see the Explorer in your pic, pure class! 😎🇬🇧
Superb introduction tugging at my own heartstrings of nostalgia. Love your content and approach to watch collecting, it always leaves me hunting on eBay!
Love your intros and the edit! 1st time commenter but I’ve been a long time viewer. As with many others, you have been my gateway into the world of watches.
Thank you and keep up the great work!
So happy to found your channel after coming back to mechanical watches. Not only the intros are killing it. Greetings from Berlin to Philly
Great intro. Nicest touch for me was the inclusion of Doom footage and having the IMPs scream softly over the music.
That made me notice the clever use of sound bytes here and there to spice up the visual fest. Bravo!
Fabulous as always TGV! I like the idea of the Bond Tag Heuer Night Diver!
Great intro, every sequence is spot on...90's ....those were the years
Man, I love your videos! Absolute work of art 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The editing is top notch! Nice job and keep it up.
Excellent intro as always! Great review!
Super intro, another enjoyable video from my favorite watch enthusiasts.
The b-roll on this channel is probably the best in the YT-watch world! Well done!!
Great intro man! Super cool!
always good to see/ hear from you tgv
What an intro! Being a 90's kid myself this resonated so powerfully with me. I also love videos such as this one where you share your thoughts and we can just chill and take in your observations. This is the true watch journalism!
That 90's montage was so sick. Loved it.
TGV, thank you for your continual inspiring videos and reviews from a true independent enthusiast! You introduced me to the love and infinite wonder if horology, a passion that has lifted my spirits through challenging times, wishing you all the best!
TGV, I am a long time follower and absolutely love your channel. After watching this video, I felt compelled to share that not only did I recently rewatch the Living Daylights and License to Kill, but I also have a Tag Heuer ref. 980.023n in the collection. A collection that includes a Squale 1521 and two SKXs, all acquired based on your recommendations. So, many thanks!
You will forever be my fav Wrist watch youtube channel I love how you make are little niche hobby seem like so much fun and so much more then what it really is you will be forever be one of the giants in pushing and influencing so many people to get in to wearing watches you are always so informative and a blast to watch just superb editing and insight.
That intro! 🙌 great video
Great video, as Always. Most inspiring the "calibre" section. Oh, D on the High left corner, and the intro from DS9. Ok, I'll rewatch Star Strek for the 47th time!!!
Great content as always.
Are you hinting that the new RangeMaster might be 90s inspired?
Great job TGV! I love the 90s 👍
As usual, well done!
I've seen some good intro's on this channel, but this one is on point 👌
Huge respect for adding Selena la reina del cumbia! In the intro❤
Great intro TGV. Fantastic compilation of 90s nostalgia. Much appreciated. 👍
Another amazing video TGV! Please never stop, your videos have made me fall in love with watches and has been an amazing journey so far! Good luck with your goals and I just got a Black bay 58 to celebrate getting married later this year🎉
Video fenomenale. Fantastico. Solo applausi TGV!!! Grande....
Thank you for your predictions. I think you’re spot on. Watching this video makes me feel confident that I’m good with my Speedy, SKX and G-Shock. Nothing new really excites me.
Great show ,
Top tasche! To quote that ‘90s stalwart FHM….good work fella
nice, keep it up!
Can't get over how epic that intro was! Let's hope GP gets trending and the respect they deserve this year. Cheers, D
Beautiful work. More and more as I find myself learning about vintage watches and discovering endless examples of wonderful pieces, new releases become noise that pass me by.
Breguet Tradition, Tristano. Great video. Happy collecting!
Spot on - 90s will be the next big thing.
Shout out to the Citizen "Underpants" NY0040 of marina militare fame.
Not many other 90s icons still in production!
Che spettacolo Tristano. Editing superlativo con perle uniche come la reference su Resident Evil. Belli i tuoi obiettivi 2024. Buona caccia
I'm so happy you included Kalle from Chronoglide Watchmaking!
Another great video. Have a great weekend!
Thank you, you too!
Best regards,
TGV
I can't imagine how long that intro took to make. Amazing stuff TGV.
Interesting! Thanks!
What an intro 👏🏻
That Girard-Perregaux is amazing; another great video, many thanks
Ive gotten a 36mm 1972 Seiko Lord Matic. On a black leather strap it is very understated and perfect for my office days.
wow... TGV per usual going absolutely insane with the intros. (may or may not have rewatched it 5 times)
Happy New Year TGV 🎉. The Aquaracer Solargraph is a real beauty.
Agreed. Biggest surprise of my 2023 collecting journey. Solargraph Ti will be a keeper for me for many years to come. Really enjoy this piece
@markmiller3682 great to hear 👏 👍
Kudos for having Tricky in the intro. Classic!
I agree on the confusion with fascination surrounding tiffany dial trends.
Wonderful nostalgic intro! Plenty of music sampling 90’s dance classics so I can see the trend expanding. Let’s hope it’s more Blur than Mr Blobby! All the best.
Have you seen the Mont Blanc Worldtimer? ETA based with a module. Think it looks sooo nice. Great video as always!❤
TGV, please help me. I am hesitating between a vintage 2002 Speedmaster Reduced and the new Zenith El Primero Original black dial (with blue subdials) and I just cannot choose. What should I do?
Splendid intro! I'm listening.
That said, grey market dealers are not all born equal. I've dealt with at least four of them that were splendid chaps, watch lovers who have a bit of a side business and who do exactly as they promise. I trust those more than the two biggest luxury AD's in the Netherlands.
Great work TGV, Bottom deserves the space in the intro.. classic!
Looking forward to your valuable views, hopefully there will be more positives than negatives with the primary branded Stuff! Take care, Sir TGV!
This has made me consider what my goals are in 2024. Probably some type of tank watch (which I've never been bothered about but now I feel the yearnings) and to continue to find the slightly left-field cheaper alternatives to mid-tier/lux watches which I aspire to.
I am looking forward to your 2024 acquisitions.
Nice video to relax on a Friday afternoon, thanks TGV! 😊
Thank you Javi, have a great weekend my friend. 😎☕️
Best regards,
TGV
I do hope the intense scourge of smaller watches ends soon!
Though at the same time I do feel like giving up on everything apart from a small Cartier at times, so who knows?!
Very nostalgic video. The 90s was when I first got interested in this crazy hobby/obsession. I was living in Portland (I know, doesn't get more 90s than that) and I remember buying books on horology and watches at Powell's bookstore. I bought my first "serious" watch, a Speedmaster reduced at a local brick and mortar store that sold pre-owned watches.
Best intro 🙌🏼
Thank you for the Resident Evil reference... Could you maybe do a video on sprezzatura? The concept, the aesthetic, etc. Really appreciate your work.
Loved that intro😄 Could you please tell me the song that is used in it?🙃
Great show. Worryingly I have also been checking out the 1000 Series and that Breitling. Oh dearie me 🤑🤑🤑🤑
Very well done and inspiring video👍🏻The 90is were the best time of my li life. Watch wise they started with a citizen Eco drive, continued with an Oris Big Crown (36mm) and endet with a Sinn Titanium Chrono. I am curious if your prediction will come true?! I would be glad🤗
Your video's are out of this world, your small nods to Copenhagen from where I am writing this, seeing Mads M in Pusher and your nod to the last scary secondswith the original Funny Games actors final scene in a movie you will never forget once seen... bravo TGV..👍😊
Excellent video.
As always great to hear your thoughts/views/predictive of the coming year. For me I only see a reduction in my collection. Due to a number of reasons my most important aspect is now visibility of a watch. So I can imagine a sell off of my more complicated/harder to see watches. But whatever happens won't dull my love for them. Have a great weekend sir
Killer-Intro!!
The 90s montage 👌🏼
Nicely worked mate. My lord, nineties now considered vintage! The beauty of watch collecting is the diversity or perhaps it may be considered too much choice, either way I love the pendulum effect of style. I was enamoured by Squale not so long ago, now I’m loving g shocks! It’s only money 😮. Good luck with your new venture mate. Cheers
You’re so right about that fc worldtimer, it’s marvelous.
9:26 I replayed this part so many times
Best intro ever
Another great, great video essay where the visuals are as impressive as your reflections. Too much money, and not enough meaning in their life…. Oh, and as an old school movie buff I will always compliment you everytime you include Kitano. Keep it up, T, best wishes from Norway!
Hi Tristano, cool video my friend (as always I might add 😁) I'm in a bit of a predicament regarding my next watch. Got a awesome Seiko 6139 chronograph and vintage king Seiko collection. Last year added a 2nd Omega Speedmaster, a Mark 4. Got my Grail in 2021 the speedy pro 1861.
What should I do?
On my short list are a Omega SMP 300, a FOIS speedy, a contemporary Grand Seiko and last a Rolex DJ or explorer.
I do what I love, buy the watch I that brings me the most joy. Value is important but not a defining factor for purchase. Thx,Henry
I have the Rolex OP 41 black dial on my list - love the simplicity of this timeless watch. Plus, it can easily be dressed or up or down
These videos, like your stated collecting goals, have become ever-more finely honed. Your mention of shifts in career direction is equally intriguing...I'm hoping for good stuff for you there as well.
TGV,
I only wear two watches. My 36 mm yellow gold tt DJ at work, and my 36 mm Explorer for casual. Should I get a watch winder? I work on call, not a typical M-F so I usually end up setting and swapping into the DJ in a hurry.
I love COSC type watches with the open back and cool movements. But quartz are so easy to get along with. I love tritium night lighting so I purchased a stainless Marathon last year added a nice leather strap so I'm currently satisfied. This is the best quartz movements I have ever seen!! Other than digitals. I swim in one. Excellent content!! Sorry to hear Swatch buying Braguette or how ever it is spelled. Love their $16k beauties. ❤
I want to know what you think of the new longines with the center power reserve. It’s stunning
@theurbangentry, when you wear a watch with a black rubber band, do you wear black leather shoes and accessories too? Or can you wear a black rubber band with brown shoes? Please
Advise. Regards.
Killer intro!
I have a question, when the first powermatic 80 started to appear, you were actively recommending them, in for example the Hamilton Khaki field mechanical and the Tissot le Locle. Now, I think it is perfectly fine to change your mind when you get new information but, my question is are these earlier powermatic any better or they are all the same? What about the mechanism in the hydroconquest, is it also as disposable as the one in the PRX?
Looking forward for your Super Final Grail Romain Gauthier ! ☺️
It's funny you say the 90s, I was looking at getting a velcro 'gul' strap for one of my watches 2 days ago (remember those watches/straps?)
i love that your a movie nerd like me as well
It’s 8am in Dubai and there’s no better way to start the weekend that watching this pure chef d’œuvre. This is quintessential Urban Gentry. Insightful, from the heart, and so freaking well produced it deserves an Oscar (the first minute should be shown in schools and museums you caught the soul of the 1990s). I’m in your team with regards to a world timer a very underrated complication… But for,me the FC is a bit « cold » I don’t know how to explain. I wish one day GS made one with a lacquer dial in the middle… Anyway thank you so much, my English vocabulary is not elaborated enough to express the magnitude of my gratitude.
Really enjoyed watching this. I was wondering if you could help me with something. I have a beautiful pocket watch that was given to my great grandfather from 1934 it has an engraving on the back from Putney police to my grandfather for assisting the police. It is swiss made and beautiful, manual winding but not working. Where would I go to get advice on its value and potential for repair? I'm in London area. Many thanks
What model De ville is that?
What's the music of the intro TGV? Please share it
I'm possibly wrong, but when you talked about a vintage KS, i saw a blue dial with a swiss certification.
I have an affinity for the Aerospace as well! There’s something about it.
