Ernie is so gracious and honest. He’s been terribly underrated as an actor, and it’s criminal what the studio did to him. He is an integral part of Ghostbusters.
Ernie comes in halfway through the first movie, but Winston ends up having some of the funniest, most memorable lines. Nevermind Ghostbusters 2, where his role was slightly expanded. Definitely a legend.
Criminally underrated actor. That scene with him and Ray where they talk about the end of the world gives me chills. He amazes me in any project I see him in, even if it’s otherwise crappy.
As a naive kid, I always thought "Wait, wasn't there supposed to be 4 Ghostbusters?" whenever I saw the VHS box or posters... it's a shame it took until the sequel to give Ernie Hudson the position he should have had from the beginning.
Ernie Hudson was one of the most memorable things about 'Ghostbusters'. From his mid-script entrance, with that relatable line, 'If there's a regular pay check in it...', to that jubilant, final 'I LOVE this town!' He is as iconic as the other three 'busters, buster!
He sort of “became” the Everyman / audience identification character *because* he was hired on from the outside. And he does have the most insightful lines, as well as many jokes. Winston is memorable.
Glad to hear that the actual cast and creatives were welcoming and it was mainly studios and marketing where the weirdness came into it. He's great in the movies, and Congo, Basketball Diaries, loads of things.
@@cptpepper7731 He did make it as an actor, google him and see all of the movies he's been in. He's a character actor and there's nothing wrong with that.

Winston Zeddmore has always been my 2nd fav Ghostbuster, after Venkman, and as a kid I wondered why he was not on the poster. Some of the best lones belong to Winston in those films.
I didn't know he felt this way about GB. His character has some of the best lines in the movie including my favorite one: "Ray, when someone asks you if you are a god, you say: yes!"
I really respect the way Ernie navigates his reactions to situations w the careful consideration that he can only understand his view and might have blind spots for other reasonable explanations from the perspective of others. That is a very noble and rare trait to possess.
As a kid that didn't see race or color, my brother and I loved Winston! He was one of our favorites for sure! I am so sorry that happened to you Ernie. We love you man!
I'm glad he knows the fans embraced him and his character. I never thought of him as any less. In my mind, I probably saw him on the poster, to be honest.
I think Ernie has some of the best lines in Ghostbusters. While he isn’t in it too much, he definitely shines. The scene where he discusses religion with Ray is one of my favorite moments of the film. Then Afterlife took that scene and took a shit on it RIP. No doubt if Eddie Murphy was cast instead he would of been on that poster.
And despite all that Ernie still made a hell of an impression in the role. I would argue that he is the people’s Ghostbuster. Certainly my favorite in the pack.
Ernie Hudson is a heck of a talent. He's played the good guy & bad guy roles perfectly. He didn't hold on to one role. Ernie Hudson as Winston will always be my favorite character he played. God Bless this man
I'm a Ghostbusters fanatic and Winston was always my favorite character...I've had the pleasure of meeting Ernie Hudson a few times and he was very nice each time I met him. Look forward to seeing him in the new one!!
To me personally Winston was the most relatable Ghostbuster for me as a kid, he helped kids such as myself back then understand what the other three were on about, and I always wondered why he wasn't on the posters etc, now I know why
This guy is super gracious and deserves better I mean really 3 guys on the poster come on talk about a slap in the face. Yet he is still smiling and says hey guys let's make this right and the studio needs to make it right for him he deserves it.
My understanding is Winston was to be played by Eddie Murphy but there was a scheduling conflict due to his role in Beverly Hills Cop. It all worked out well for both parties.
Rumor has it the Winston part was originally written for Eddie Murphy and shortened because Ernie was from a dramatic background. Tremendous career/actor. Oz, Hand That Rocks The Cradle, The Crow, and still going strong on tv. Ernie Hudson, Nichelle Nichols, and Greg Morris were so important to tv and teaching future generations about acceptance, teamwork, equality, etc.
He was the embodiment of an everyday New York vibe that helped make the movie more humorous and relatable. “Checks gonna clear alright we’re bustin what? Ghosts? Alright no way their bustin themselves let’s get at it.”
I met him in 2015 at a comic con, got his autograph and picture for 45 dollars, shook his hand, and asked why he didn't have a bigger part in Ghostbusters 2. He said he just read what the script said and did the movie but didn't question anything else. He should have had more to do and say in the second film.
The initial script was written for Eddie Murphy in mind, consequently a much bigger part. When Eddie wasn't going to be in the movie, the part was shrunk. So I don't think it was personal.
Eddie Murphy has said in interviews that he was asked to do the part. But he turned it down to do Beverly Hills Cop. Studio probably got mad they didnt get Eddie. So they took it out on Ernie, and shortened the role. Just my thoughts
I always wondered why Ernie wasn’t on the Ghostbuster poster I have in my collection room. It seems like he was treated as a 5th wheel. They even have him facing away from the others in that poster they showed in the video as if he really didn’t belong there or something. Strange…
Even the picture of the main cast at 2:24 looks like they’re pushing him away. Very sad what they did to that Man. Definitely sounds like that whole situation, really disturbed his life for a while 😔
He also auditioned for the Winston role for the 80's Ghostbusters cartoon and didn't get it. Arsenio Hall was good but Ernie should have been a lock in for the role. It's one of those jobs he didn't get during those 2 to 3 years after GB.
Exactly! Ironic that Howard is treating Ernie the same way as what is being described. I'm 100% sure Howard would have any of the other Ghostbusters (including the all Female cast) on the MAIN couch with Howard. either way, great job by Rashaan!
This is slightly out of context. I recall hearing Ernie say that the studio originally wanted Eddie Murphy for the part of Winston, which would've made Ghostbusters an all star SNL cast, but Eddie turned it down, and they got Ernie as an after thought.
My favorite movie that Ernie did was The Substitute. I believe that's what it's called, where the main character comes back from war and becomes a substitute teacher in a class full of gang kids. Ernie plays the principal of that high school and is also the main antagonist of the movie.
Wow, it's so hard to hear that Ernie Hudson had a rough experience on ghostbusters. Winston is my favorite Ghostbusters it's hard to imagine the movie without Ernie Hudson playing it.
Ghostbusters 1,2 , The Crow, Leviathan, Oz, are my favourites of his where he has a main role and i was pleased he was in my favourite series (3rd part anyway) of all time Twin Peaks the return as well.
Sorry to say but that was kinda insulting saying that was the biggest movie he had ever been in. This gentleman is a hell of an actor across the board. Every movie I've seen him in he made the movie better. He actually has one of the best lines in the movie.
