As a New Yorker, my accent intensifies when I'm upset, so I think it's actually realistic that Kylie's accent does the same.

Funny, I've never even been to New York and that was also my first thought. I know it's not common with all accents but it seems to be a something of a recurring thing with distinctive regional accents. Being the kind of omni-nerd I am, I'd genuinely be fascinated to see people with backgrounds in linguistics and neurology contribute to a video essay explaining it. It feels like your more advanced but much slower prefrontal cortex might be part of the brain committee that tones down regional accents so an angry or upset response might slip by before it noticed? Just a _very_ poorly-educated guess.

It's kind of like when Australians get hired to work in movies or TV shows in the U.S., or when they're just not playing to a predominately Australian audience (Steve Irwin, etc)... their Australian accent reaches an almost Simpsons-level of comedic over-the-topness. Sometimes they're doing it on purpose, I guess, but a lot of the time I think it just naturally happens. (I'm Australian, BTW. Went to school in the U.S. for a few years and my nickname was "Fosters"...)

This is me just spitballing, but if I had to guess, a lot of Egon’s “too old for this” attitude could easily be chalked up to just the mental toll that being a Ghostbuster inflicted on him. Seriously, even if we’re just going by The Real Ghostbusters, he’s been possessed at least once, forced to confront a deep-seated childhood terror (read: the Bogeyman) twice, laid eyes upon Cthulhu, and nearly been killed on numerous occasions. Frankly, it’s a miracle he hadn’t gone insane by the events of this show.

After living through three years of the COVID era, I have to say it's a little easier for me to buy that at least a significant portion of the general public would buy into a narrative of a very real and volatile omnipresent threat being a hoax, despite an abundance of evidence to the contrary.

Not mention historic monuments and governments all over the world were completely destroyed! This series definitely had a lot of potential and I agree with some oh Phelous's critiques and yeah Egon should have been used more, since it seems like a bad idea to give proton packs to 4 college students who don't have any experience in this field.
Things that could've made extreme a bit better
Have the first part of the series be Egon training the new group so they be better equipped for dealing with Ghosts.
As the series Egon gives them the choice to leave if they want because they are just kids in College, which gives a nice dynamic between the team and Egon since wouldn't want to deprive any of them a normal life.
Have Eduardo grow more as Ghost Buster.
Expand more on the world Extreme is set in and for the crossover have one of the original members try to give the kids some words of wisdom.Maybe have a dynamic between Peter and Eduardo,Eduardo is slightly jealous of Peter and Peter thinks Eduardo isn't cut out for this job which brings back what I said would help the series Eduardo growing more as a Ghost Buster and grow into more of a hero.
Sorry if I brought this up I just felt like saying what I think could've helped Extreme as a series.

If i were, to have my way the pilot ep, would open in the first 5-10 minutes, (Like in Batman beyond were Bruce quits being batman) an Unknown powerful entity, confronted the Real Ghostbusters, in which nearly destroyed the city, by opening a gateway too the ghost world.
An Peter sacrificed himself too save everyone an got sucked into the ghost realm. After his death or disappearance, the team breaks down an disband, Leaving Egon an Janine too closeshop, the ghostbusters were slowly forgotten.
Timeskip too years later a new team comes in Egon or Janine having reservation due too what happens too peter, about the new team. but reluctantly trains them. An the face dark an more scarier ghost. Both new an old one. An risk an consequence are high.
That would make the show more centered, a more mature teen audience, then kids. making it more standout. Though it may alienate fans of the original series. but its just my idea.
Also im not gonna lie "The Ep "Deadliners" was the 1st ep i watched in this cartoon. an it gave me nightmares when i was a kid.

I totally thought this when I was younger: Garrett being the enthusiastic athlete, I pictured him zipping around through a crowd of ghosts with trap-hubcaps, sucking every entity up as he does a flashy 360 spin or something else "extreme".
The main thought was, with all the tech and different Ectos (es?) that existed since TRGB, couldn't Garrett get some awesome enhancements to his chair? I know they wanted to emphasize the idea that someone in a wheelchair didn't need a bunch of additional assistance to succeed with the rest, but I still would've liked to see some good use of new equipment, especially being in a chair with his character traits. Then again, it would've created even easier outs and wrap-ups in plot solutions, as he would've became too op.

Slimer's body is ectoplasm that is formed around his spirit self. If the new evil ghost were to push the spirit part of Slimer out of the ectoplasm body then it could occupy that ectoplasm.
HOWEVER, the ectoplasm should reform around Slimer's spirit like it does when he gets smashed or passes thru a wall. Maybe the evil ghost has the ability to lock spirits out of whatever ethereal field that ectoplasm is formed from.

Eduardo taking so well to the ghostbuster life despite no academic interest in the supernatural makes sense, I mean, it's an exciting, heroic and mostly physical job rather than something he has to think too hard about.

In regards to the Eduardo's scientist line.
There is maybe one or two times this is said where it's played more like the fact he isn't is part of the joke like when he accidentally shoots his proton stream after saying it.
The rest of the time it is straight up used as a strange qualifier for their actions like the original Peter line without any hint of irony about it.
In fact in the episode Back in the Saddle Peter mentions failing a few times in college didn't stop him from being a scientist and then he and Eduardo exchange a knowing smile.
If you don't want to believe me watch the scenes again where he says that for the context of how it's used.

Dave Couliers Venkman still sounds like when an immature kids tries to imitate someone he doesn't like, or thinks is stupid. Really reeks of the that level of exaggerated oafishness. Whether or not that was intentional is beyond me, given the guy is neither very funny or that good of a voice actor (see his take on Felix the Cat for further reference) Really makes it hard to appreciate even the better written lines. It really wouldn't be so hard to get over, except for the fact that every other human character at least talks like a normal person.

He was also key in providing a simple, effective solution when the others were overanalyzing the situation. I've heard folks call him the least of the members and I believe they're a bunch of idiots because they don't look into his character enough. I think it's pretty plain when watching the first two film's.

I'm fairly certain the line of 'I am thirty-nine' was a nod to Jack Benny, who was famous for saying that on the air and stage when anyone remarked about his age, from 1940 to 1974. He had 41 39th Birthday celebrations.

I know. I have nothing against having one or two female characters, that's fair. I would prefer an honest to god sequel with the REAL GHOSTBUSTERS, but if you absolutely must, then do that. Having it all female just feels kinda pointless, that's all. Its hardly a big complaint for me, my biggest issue is, its happening. I hate most remakes, and seeing how poor Harold Ramis isn't even alive, it just doesn't feel right. And the fact the entire cast is cameoing through out the whole damn movie pisses me off more! MAKE THEM THE ORIGINAL CHARACTERS IF YOU HAVE THEM! Fuck! Hell, if they wanted to do an all female cast, why not just bring back Annie Potts for a main role? I would love that. But no, cameo. Sorry, the subject of the remake just pisses me off.

    • @Jamesamong007
      @Jamesamong007 8 років тому +1

The thing that pisses me off about the remake is the fact that, besides Dan Ackroyd, non of the original stars wanted to make a true sequel, but they are all okay with making cameos in this.

Don't get me started on Bill Murray. I love the guy, but what an asshole thing to do. GB3 didn't get made simply because of him, and the moment they reboot it, he shows up. What utter bullshit! Still one of my favorite comedic actors, but still.

An interesting idea brought up in one of the recent IDW ghost buster comic cross over between the real Ghost busters and IDW ghost busters is that not only are the Real ghost busters and IDW are set in different universes but so are the 88 Ghost Buster's and Extreme, it's even implied that Extrame Ghost busters is a different universe all together than Real. Although how that works when Extreme and Real do share some ( it's not much ) but some conterunity. So maybe in the Extreme verse the Real ghost busters had less of an impact, perhaps after Gozar the ghosts didn't appear as much as in the real series. But that's just a guess on my part

I think many of the issues you mentioned might have been worked out if the show had gotten more than 40 episodes. Had it gotten another season or two, I'm sure that the team would've gone up against more classic baddies from RGB like Samhain. As for the question of why Eduardo stuck around on the team despite his apathy towards the paranormal, I like to believe that he DID plan to leave after the pilot, but changed his tune after seeing the check from the team's first "regular" bust.

    • @derrickhaggard
      @derrickhaggard 5 років тому +3

Concerning why Garret is in a wheelchair it was revealed in the episode that had the team dealing with a evil leprechaun who supposedly sealed away Garret's good luck and skills in leadership, strategy, and use with the proton pack that he was originally the star player of the basketball team at the university him, Eduardo, Roland, and Kylie went to but he was later caught in a car accident that resulted in the other driver getting killed but Garret survived but at the cost of being paralyzed in both of his legs with 0% chance of being able to walk again and for a while Garret carried the guilt with him along with a belief that being wheelchair-bound will result in him losing his ability to do sports along with him losing his ability to function in society but he later forgave himself along with learning how to play sports and function in society while wheelchair bound he revealed this to Egon during a heart-to-heart with his mentor who gave some useful advice that gave Garret his confidence back which allowed him to save the rest of the team from the evil leprechaun.

I remember liking this show back in the day. Suddenly after seeing this video, my thoughts on it have kind of altered slightly. I like the idea of bringing in a new young group, and that concept would have made for a great third movie, instead of the reboot that Paul Feig will be shitting out. I think what really lost me with EGB was the lack of any decent humor. Both movies and RGB had a perfect balance of comedy and darkness. EGB was clearly more heavy on the darkness, which I don't mind too much, but come on. It's Ghostbusters. There should be a good balance.
